Noise is insane, fans are at 75%. GPU cores hover at only 60C though, not bad! There are 3 3000rpm fans at the intake of the cards. They do run at full power +, the 5870's are clocked at 900/600 and output is power is ~ 1550W, 124V & 15A. Still tweaking a lot to get power consumption down on the board, cpu and ram but for now I'm pretty satisfied at 2.06 Hashes per watt
This is a really neat setup.

My 5870 2gb run cool at 40% fan speed,

To spread the card I suggest that you use a smaller heatsink and place a GPU over it, then add a 2nd extender to the card on the right, (use shielded extender and provide 12v to it)
Did you feed any riser with 12v ?

I don't feed any risers with 12v molex. I may use a lower profile heatsink later, that was one I had sitting around. I can lower the fan speeds 25% and get on 5-8 degrees higher, but it is in my utility room so I really don't notice it.

Why add a second powered riser? I've been curios as to what these are used for.

Not to be rude, But sure if it's free, i dont want some Different username/email that i cant change
If it can be changed then i'll buy it

That is what I figured. I'll try to get it changed to a gift d/l. PM me and we'll discuss price and payment

Temperature and noise must be insane... Looks like meltdown to me if run on full power Smiley

WHAT WORKS
Motherboard Brand: MSI
Motherboard Model & PCIe Slots: Big Bang Masrshal B3 8x PCIe x16 slots
Power Supply Brand & Model: Antec HC 1200 & Antec HP 750
Number & Model GPUs: 8x 5870
Extender Cables w/Molex Power?: 8 x16 -> x16 Risers no molex

Works in BAMT & Windows 7. LinuxCoin final periodically crashes after 15mins to 1 hour. 1550W, 124V & 15Amps at peak load 3.2GHs.

This thing is a beast but a major pain in the ass build & not recommended to anyone that isn't technically inclined or hasn't built quite a few rigs.

You guys seem to like tablets and I haven't used mine in the last 6 months, so I may as well get rid of it to someone who will use it.

It is rooted and comes with Tiamat's unlocked kernel as well as their ROM. I haven't sent it to get the 4G modem installed but this is available if you choose to do so, just flash back to stock it's fairly easy.

In original box with manuals. Comes with flip up portfolio case, charger, data cable and 16GB HDSC external card (48GB total storage)

BTC only and asking USD value $300

You are correct, one of my cards is actually on a 1x - 16x. This board has the most slots outright that I have seen though.
775  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: what is the most energy efficent gpu out there on: October 22, 2011, 10:57:10 PM
Depends on how many you can run on one board. I'm running 8 5870's on one board generating 1550 Watts @ 3.2GHs, that's 2.06 H/Watts.

how did you get a board with 8 x16 PCIe slots?

778  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Regarding the MSI BigBang Marshal B3 on: October 22, 2011, 07:46:51 AM
Can't fit into a full tower, it requires E-ATX casing or you may want to run it as open rig.

There are a few cases that support XL-ATX, but you'll only be able to run 4 cards sandwiched together. The board does support 7 case fans though. Open air is the only way to go for dedicated mining rigs.
779  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Regarding the MSI BigBang Marshal B3 on: October 22, 2011, 01:02:21 AM
Nice build! What settings do you have changed with atitweak?

atitweak -e 900 -P 2 -A all
atitweak -m 600 -P 2 -A all
atitweak -f 65 -A all

OC'ed the core a bit and took down the memory otherwise I'd blow the circuit at well over 15 Amps and more than 125 Volts

I can't seem to stabilize under 600MHz on the memory though

I have seen a bunch of post in hardware asking if this board works with no replies to them, that I have seen. I am new, 1st post, so I can not answer these guys.

Yes 8 PCIe ports populated and mining with HD 5870's.

I know it doesn't matter much for mining purposes but if you'll use the board later on for gaming or something else,
4 slots - 8x
2 slots - 4x
2 slots - 1x

No hiccups running LinuxCoin, will be trying BAMT later today. Had to install and use ATITweak instead of ATIconfig and AMDOverdriveCtrl. I don't consider this an issue though as ATITweak if far better IMO.

Only issue with having 8 PCIe ports populated with GPUs is power. I am running off a 120v outlet and the wire gets hot! If this is a rig you're going to look into, use 5830's or use a 240v outlet to power it.

~3.2GHs @ 1550W

What works

Motherboard:
MSI Big Bang Marshal B3

CPU:
Intel i7 2600K

Memory:
2GB Kingston 2000MHz Hyper X underclocked to 1333MHz

Graphics:
8x HD5870

PSU:
Antec High Current Pro 1200
Antec TruePower 750

I will post a screenshot up later when I get a chance for proof of operation and stability

Don't waste money on new with this board either. I purchased an open box from newegg for $279, saved a hundred bucks and it came perfect.

Happy Mining!
