wow! hope you and your property are safe... looks like some defective components.

Yep, I caught it as it was happening, no big issue (except for about 5 seconds of abject terror).  I'm just trying to figure out which components were faulty.

Here's my build:

Power: CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX650 V2 650W ATX12V v2.31/ EPS12V v2.92 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC High Performance Power Supply

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-F2A55M-HD2 FM2 AMD A55

APU: AMD A10-5800K Trinity 3.8GHz FM2 100W Quad-Core Desktop APU (CPU + GPU) with DirectX 11 Graphic AMD Radeon HD 7660D

Video Card: SAPPHIRE 100314-5L Radeon HD 6870 1GB GDDR5 PCI Express Video Card (One of the rebranded 5870s)

I was mining on the 6870 @ 950 MHz with around 400 MH/s using GUIMiner
I was mining on the APU with around 80 MH/s

Saturday evening, this happened to my motherboard:

These are two chips labeled DEQ1 and DEQ2 just above the CPU socket.

I've RMA'd the board, but I was only using 1 video card (two if you count the onboard one).  One other thing, my power supply would run even if the power switch was switched to off, so maybe my power supply is doing something funky.  I'm wondering wtf went wrong here, this build is only 4 months old and has been running just about nonstop since then with no issues.
763  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [8500 GH/s] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + UserDiff; ASIC tested on: May 18, 2013, 09:14:47 PM
Can anyone explain this to me:

Mined from start to finish.

It'll get fixed...

This keeps getting said and then not happening.  I've had 2 blocks in the last week go to 100 confirmations un/underpaid, and now I'm looking at two more.  I can't watch these go by indefinitely; I've been with Slush since my first share and I'd hate to leave, but ultimately I'm doing this for money, and the continued presence of mined blocks that don't pay out or pay out way too low is starting to make me think I shouldn't be here.  What keeps happening?

~270-300$ per K16 ? How many chips in that board?

Smiley
765  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ASICMiner Block Erupter USB group buy (US/Canada) on: May 18, 2013, 03:17:56 AM
side by side they may not fit?

True; some extenders may be in order, but I only plan on ramping up to 5 total, so the Amps should be good I think. (3 / .56 = 5.35 so that leaves me a little head room over 560 mA each).
766  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ASICMiner Block Erupter USB group buy (US/Canada) on: May 18, 2013, 01:41:09 AM
Just ship his last so us little guys have head start to mine a few bits!  Smiley

Make sure you have a hub to drive these!  As I and others have mentioned elsewhere, you don't want these plugged into a cheap chinese hub.  Instead, get an expensive chinese hub! Smiley

M

How expensive?  What specs do I need?  I saw that this puts out 560 mA possibly, which is a little over spec for a single port, but if I keep numErupters * .56 < totalAmpsOfHub I should be fine right?

Yes you should.  Every cheap hub I looked at was limited to 2A, which is 3 erupters max.  I have 6, intend to get 1 or 2 more.  I only found one that meets my specs, and has great reviews.  Cost me $50 from Amazon.  Anything $20 or less had awful reviews and people saying it wouldn't work if you had more than one item plugged in that needed power.  And some say the fuse line was purposely shorted out to save money.

Definitely _not_ want you want for this.

And last thing I want is for these to arrive only to find out the cheap hub I got doesn't cut it.

M

This looked good to me; 3A, >400 reviews with 4.5 start avg.

FYI

I am speaking with manufacturers to have heatsinks made for the Klondike board. Having heatsinks made is going to be less expensive than purchasing and modifying any current solution. I need to know who is planning on purchasing boards, what quantity, and whether or not they would want a heatsink.

Specs are:
100x100x25mm
3mm base
1mm fins
2mm spacing
6000 series aluminum
4 mounting holes drilled, located in center of each 4 chip group.
Flat base/underside

This is a one time deal. Enough heatsinks need to be purchased to cover all the boards, with a few extra. Purchasing additional heatsinks in low quantity will be prohibitively expensive. These heatsinks will not be made available to the general public. They will only be made available to those offering bulk purchasing as I cannot sell these piecemeal. I will be offering them as part of a package to those who purchase chips through me.

Group buy coordinators, Large private buyers, and Klondike resellers need to contact me ASAP.

Emphasis mine.

gentlemen: excellent news. i just heard from our wonderful, glorious cat.

we're the first to get delivered.

Very cool indeed.  Do we know when it ships?  Are you provided a tracking number (obviously not to share with us, but at least we can get updates on where the package is and what it's doing)?

Oh Em Gee I'm so excited.
770  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Off-Topic on: May 16, 2013, 01:40:20 PM
Just a curiosity on my part...

10,000 chips from Avalon = BTC782.1 (including shipping) = BTC0.07821 per chip (with no markup at all)

64 chips * BTC0.07821 = BTC5.00544 worth of chips in one 64 chip complete assembly which TerraHash is charging BTC6.99 for

TerraHash also has the option of charging BTC1.99 for the same board, assembly only, if I send them my own chips

If assembly price can be assumed to be the same for the boards, then buying a fully assembled board with chips included means I'm getting 64 chips at BTC6.99 - BTC1.99 = BTC5.00

Seems like it's a better deal to get chips from TH on a fully assembled board than it is to buy chips from a group buy... especially since most of the group buys added a 10% premium...

So am I really going to pay more for assembly only when I could buy fully assembled chipped boards with less hassle at a lower total cost?

TH in all fairness I think your prices are great but I am just not sure how you can be turning a profit at these numbers, you seem to be losing btc on the chips alone and I know there is a fair amount of component cost in the assembly, of which your price is about 1/2 what anyone else is quoting at this point in time...

Group thoughts?

I have no idea what they are actually doing but it seems that if they source the chips, then it's less hassle for them, and the savings are taken from the cost of the board.  Looks to me that BTC1.98456 would still allow them to make a profit, especially if they don't have to fool around with receiving your chips and verifying its you and all that garbage.

Thank you for the help though i would appreciate a less tough tone.

Sorry was reflex. Didn't mean to be rough. Meant to say "Here is the relevant info in the manual"

Ok, maybe im a bit thin-skinned today... Wink

Lol I think RTFM has taken on a new meaning;  It now means Read The Fabulous Manual. Smiley

I have 20 chips coming from ragingazn, so would like 1xk16 and 4xk1's.  Any word on the k1's?
773  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Group Buy#1] Avalon ASICs CHIPS! Using JohnK as escrow! FINISHED! on: May 15, 2013, 08:44:15 PM
I'm working with bkkcoins. if anyone in this early order wants to sell chips, i have 77 btc and I'll buy them at a small premium. want to have enough to provide Klondike-1s at a retail level

Do you have any idea what you plan on selling the Klondike-1s at retail?

Related; is anyone looking at assembling Klondike-1s for group buyers?
774  Economy / Economics / Re: Gold is worse than fiat on: May 15, 2013, 05:30:26 PM
Second, the costs of the backhoe and the shovel are not labor. They are capital.

You can trade your labor for capital, and capital for labor, so the transitive property loosely applies.
775  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ASICMiner Block Erupter USB group buy (US/Canada) on: May 15, 2013, 05:24:17 PM
How much are you offering?  Grin

8 BTC for 1 piece where 1 BTC is bribe for arklan for managing the switch and 1 BTC for John k to handle escrow for the switch.

Honestly not interested to sell at all... but since everything has its price... Wink

...i'm ok with this. Cheesy

Under these conditions I can sell one of mine Cheesy 6 BTC for me, 1 for John, 1 for Arklan.

I'll sell mine for 6btc; 4 for me, one for John and one for Arklan.

What is this?  My miners have been chugging along without a hiccup; no downtime.  Why am I getting shafted here?
777  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ASICMiner Block Erupter USB group buy (US/Canada) on: May 14, 2013, 11:21:14 PM
Hopefully we won't have too many refund requests...

Ah, the joys of group buys...

I for one never expected an outstanding ROI.  At 5 watts, even if difficulty were currently DOUBLE what it is now AND the profitability decline is at .61, you'd still pay back in less than 2 years.  Understood that's nothing CRAZY, but for me mining is really more about getting bitcoins outside of unreliable sketchy ass exchanges anyway.  Plus I help the network and it's a fun hobby.

Seriously, the chips are going to be available soon, and there are tons of group buys and DIY/Open Source PCB boards that will be available; serious miners should be following those way more closely.  This was (as I recall) more of a novelty item for most anyway.  Waiting a week is really not that big a deal.

The nubness is strong within this one.

You misspelled "numbness".

It's short for newbness

I also would be willing to buy some chips.  PM Me; I've got BTC in hand.
780  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ASICMiner Block Erupter USB group buy (US/Canada) on: May 13, 2013, 02:46:11 AM
you guys won't kill me if fro mthe day i get the package to mailing it all out is 3 or 4 days, will ya? christ there's a lot of you, and a lot of chips...

That's kind of what I expected.  The chips should be shipped in order of size ordered; the more chips you bought the more you are affected by delays.  I ordered 20 and if I don't end up piggybacking on a group pcb build, fully expect to be shipped somewhere near last.

wouldn't that go against the overnight shipping offer?

or, then again, it kinda compensates for shipping later doesn't it, if you arrive sooner/ same time... hmm.

I think Big Ben is talking about a different group buy.  20 chips?  PCB build?

I'm biased of course, but shouldn't you ship the largest orders first?   Wink

Yea, sorry.  Got my group buys mixed up.  Still think bigger first, and I only got one.
