Vanity address is kinda cool, and you could show your richness if you got a long one lol

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=90982.0

I own the current longest prefix of numbers only and lower case only.

1odfsrirfbxtwjoviseqdnuixwvhsnPbJ       longest lowercase prefix
19279281759997344NJ2KMcdRZNVT5rHhq      longest digit-only prefix

Not MIA. I'll post an update regarding send anon soon.

27.5 hours later . . .

Define soon.

Once we get out of the bumping facility, we should have something shipped next week at the latest.

Oops, sorry, wrong thread.
763  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is bitbet.us buggy? on: March 01, 2013, 06:11:15 PM
Not a bug but a feature as they say.

Specifically: BitBet bets have a weight associated with them, which weight starts at 100,000 and in most cases goes all the way down to 1. This weight reflects the lateness of the bet, as obviously a Bitcoin bet in January doesn't take the same level of risk as a Bitcoin bet in February does. This protects early bettors from having their stake diluted unwarrantedly by people who bet much later - when the likelihood of the event is presumably much easier to infer correctly.

BitBet also takes a 1% fee out of the total pool. Consequently for a bet to show an actual positive it has to gain more than 1%. Due to the even-ish odds and the very low weight the bets in discussion earned less than 1% which turns into a negative end result due to the fee. As a good rule of thumb, if the odds are 1:1 a bet on weight under 1,000 should be avoided as it's unlikely to gain anything. If the odds are 1:2 then that limit becomes 500, and if the odds are 1:100 that limit would be 10.

Not all bets have weights associated, but in most cases those bets which cover a time interval rather than a specific point in time do.

Very nicely explained.

And as I mentioned, if they simply took the 1% off the top then split it based on weights, any winning better, would still at least be partially positive even late. They wouldn't win much, but that's better than losing on a winning bet.

I just noticed that people lost money - even when betting on the right side!
http://bitbet.us/bet/7/bfl-will-deliver-asic-devices-before-march-1st/

Have a look:

E.g. this guy placed 50 BTC on "No" (which was the correct outcome of the bet):

21-02-13 15:50    No    710    50.00000000    146mo    49.93600046    1FRBb

But instead of receiving something like 100 BTC (50+50) he did not even make his wager back!

Is bitbet.us buggy?

LOL wow. Someone bet 50 BTC, said no, they won, and they lost .064 btc haha. That doesn't make any sense at all.

Here are the totals that I get. 1689.814974 in. 1672.916824 out. Bitbet keeps 1%.

Bitbet uses a weight system. But you would think they would take the 1% fee out BEFORE they split the funds. Because otherwise the 50 BTC won just under 1%, but the fee made him lose.
765  Economy / Service Discussion / Is anyone else having problems with Bitme deposits? on: March 01, 2013, 04:04:42 PM
I haven't seen any notice saying they have any pending issues, but they are not responding to their contact email and their deposit method won't allow the start of a new marked transaction.

Anyone know how to buzz them?
766  Other / Off-topic / Re: Obscure OSes to try ? on: March 01, 2013, 02:53:44 PM

I couldn't remember the name of it, just googled BeOS and posted the wiki link. Thanks for posting that. Don't know if any of the kids remember BeOS from the day, but it sure had a lot of potential until Palm got their hands on it.
767  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Vanity addresses: how to get them? on: March 01, 2013, 02:41:30 PM
Does generating an address reserve that address on the network then? Or are you just mathematically validating said address?

Once you have a validated unused address, How does one then get it into your wallet ?
It doesn't reserve it in the networks (at least I'm NEARLY sure it doesn't) until you add it to your wallet. What wallet are you using to store your addresses? If you are using a web-based wallet, it varies, but for Bitcoin-QT (the desktop client), go here for instructions: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/How_to_import_private_keys

You can't use it until you import it into your wallet.

However, you don't "reserve it" until you have made a transaction to it in the block chain, then the potential firstbits would be reserved. Firstbits are not an official Bitcoin "thing" but places like blockchain.info and firstbits you can look up an address with the first part of the vanity if your address is the first one used in the blockchain.
768  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Vanity addresses: how to get them? on: February 28, 2013, 09:33:23 PM
And of course I have lots of them for sale with very nicely reserved firstbits.

But yeah, vanity gen is the shit. https://github.com/samr7/vanitygen

If you have a good graphics card you can generate them even faster on that.

770  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL Discount Voucher Policy - Updates on: February 28, 2013, 07:21:23 PM
I'm annoyed of course, but I'm not outside McDonald's picketing for a lifetime supply of cheeseburgers.

Those who purchased in say, September, October, and November, still have cause for complaint. Whether they ordered a rig or a jal. Of course the discount should correspond, but they have specifically ignored thousands of customers that have already stuck by them for 6 months of delays.

But maybe they've paid off the right people by giving them future discounts. Just have to please enough that the whole scam doesn't fall apart.
771  Economy / Speculation / Re: Pump 'n' Dump - Happening Now? on: February 28, 2013, 06:01:54 PM
Why dump?  A shadowy figure with deep pockets need merely to offer BTC to big players at MtGox price, rather than dumping them on MtGox.

Either BTC is here to stay or it's not.  If it's here to stay, it's easily worth billions of dollars as a phenomenon, thus, "dumping" coins at $30 (that is to say, the bitcoin revolution as we know it is only worth $350 million) would appear sort of foolish.

So somebody like Coinbase could be buying the bitcoins on mtgox, thus eating up all the ask orders and driving up the price, and then selling the coins at the new higher rate to the public, selling at the high mtgox price but not pushing the price back down?

Dun dun dun... sounds interesting.

Anti-bank dead-enders are going to end up as road-kill 100 miles back.

Like that embarrassing Satoshi guy?

Actually, from what I can see in the little bit of looking that I've done, yes.

Huh? Are you saying because he disappeared he is left behind?

Because otherwise, Satoshi invented Bitcoin...  Huh
773  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL Discount Voucher Policy - Updates on: February 28, 2013, 05:47:46 PM
Wow, so fuck everyone after August? If someone placed an order in September, when they still claimed they would hit their October delivery date, they have waited now 6 months and aren't even first in line. Wow.

In fact, their deadlines are always pushed back. If they wanted to give everyone a voucher that has been lied to about delivery, they would need to give everyone except for the last week a voucher. The people ordering in the last week will get their voucher at the next push back.

This begs the question then. For those that ordered in September, do they get a voucher of some sort after BFL fails to deliver anything in March?

Would you want one? Why? So you can order more stuff you won't get?

I ordered a single last week. I want a discount on that one and all future vaporware indefinitely.

776  Economy / Auctions / Re: Sell your Signature! on: February 28, 2013, 04:11:32 PM
Well guys, last payments went out. I hope you're as happy with this as I am! Great work guys. Some of the signatures you came up with were really cool.

As it turns out, TU.SILVER made enough money to cover this advertising and was still able to pay a small dividend. However, I took a chance with that as I was unsure of how well we would do in February. I've decided to wait and see how our sales go in March before offering another signature auction. But I do plan to offer one again, so, <bateman mode> keep your eyes open!</bateman> Until then, please have fun and enjoy your silver!

Last payment received thank you. I'll leave it up. Any smart ass comments I have, I place in threads, not my signature. So. If you ever want it specifically taken down, please let me know  Kiss
777  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: US and Canadian users no longer allowed to use MtGox directly? on: February 27, 2013, 10:58:56 PM
i never verified my account and currently have no balance in my account, so I plan to abandon it.

if they are bringing over accounts automatically, i am presuming this will include the account history.

i wonder how many people will be filing amended tax returns as a result.

Shit... until it's April I don't even think about what I owe in Taxes. That's a problem to worry about in a month and a half.
778  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BTCFPGA - 115K Refund on: February 27, 2013, 02:42:27 PM
Can you explain how you have access to your account again?

I disabled his account a while ago because it was clearly compromised. Recently cablepair contacted me and provided reasonable proof of his identity (signmessage using an address that he's used before), so I gave him back his account.

Thanks Theymos. Theysome as usual.
