would people please stop flaming. it is what it is and you're filling this thread with useless posts which wastes more of my time.  If you're in this buying onesie, twosie equipment purchases to try and make a 400% return you're obviously ill informed and shouldn't be spending your hard earned money on a zero sum product. Mining should and will always have the same problems and favor the earliest of adopters while punishing those who are late to the game.  If you can't risk the funds then you shouldn't it's as simple as that.  Things happen and you make the best of it.

Yeah. What he said. Dave is making the best decissions he can and is trying to make this whole thing work to the satisfaction of as many people as he can. If you don't like his decissions, don't buy from him anymore. But second guessing him will accomplish nothing. And bad mouthing people, that is just a demotivator.

I like how you went with the $2 USB fans instead of the pricier ones that seems so popular among USB miners.

the pricier fan is by far more powerful. got one of those cheap-o fans to, they suck.

I would have thought they blew. Wink

It depends on which side of the fan you are on.

The LED fans are available on US eBay for < $6.

is there a reason that you moved from ubuntu 12.04 to 13.04? it seems like every time i try and do something simple, like upgrade cgminer, i have to jump through hoops. I'm running cgminer 3.3.1. i'm having trouble adding a new Hub and more ASICminer erupters. i've got about 34 running, one in the new hub works but any more gets errors and not recognised. at one point i had 3 working in the new hub, but repowering it dropped me down to one. I figured if i asked for help you would just tell me to use the latest cgminer. so i downloaded your prebuilt one. I noticed the 13.04 but figured it was a typo. So now i have to upgrade my Ubuntu version or rebuild the package for 12.04? If i try and rebuild it am i going to run into another "gotcha". I was so happy with 3.3.1, i just downloaded it and it worked.  Sad
I've been building with 13.04 for ages. It just so happens that previous builds worked on 12.04->13.04 simply because all the libraries matched and now do not that I added the latest version of libusb. When exactly should I upgrade to a newer operating system? Well that's the nature of heavy development. If you find a version that works for you and your hardware, stick with it, but mining is a very fluid environment that is still in massive flux and development where the hardware, protocol and expectations continue to change. If you're on linux, you'll always be much better off building it for yourself, and I only reluctantly offer binaries - it is actually not hard to build it yourself. Windows is a totally different world where building the binary is hard work, so I try to make one binary work on as many different versions as possible. People newer to the linux world use their windows experience but that's not the best way to use linux.

yeah when to upgrade is always a tough call. I'm just afraid that if try and recompile it for 12.04 I'm going to run into a whole bunch of incompatibilities. I just wish this whole USB thing worked like it is supposed to. nothing is ever easy. well, sometimes it is easy, but we forget those times.

Must be somebody over Jersey way that could help him out...  Setting up the Bitfury is fun.  Connect three parts together, hook up the PSU, start hashing...

Forgot a step....
Change pools - start hashing for your account instead of Daves

I'll get it done. I just need to get started.

  • First, dig out unused 16 port 1G Ethernet Switch
  • Then get switch setup and working
  • Slide Guest Bed out of the way so that i can access the dresser top where the miner will live.
  • Run Ethernet cable to the location
  • Unbox Bitfury and set it up.
  • Unbox and Plug in new UPS for this miner.
  • Unbox new monitor for this set up and unpackage keyboard and mouse.
  • Plug everything in and pray it all works
  • Configure for my Slush account.

Sure, nothing to it...  Tongue

I think I'll go get lunch first.

My package just arrived. I'm afraid to open the box.  Cry I'm having issues lately getting things done. I've had 2 ASICminer Blades in hand for 2 weeks and they are still in their wrapping. Ethernet switches, power supplies, UPS'... I think i'm just overwelmed. Don't get me wrong, I know all about this stuff, it isn't a lack of knowledge. It is just motivating myself to get it done. I'm slightly handicapped and it is sapping my motivation. Undecided

How many are there ? I counted something like 150+ is that accurate ? Cheesy If so , you are one crazy chicken .

People keep talking about how usb erupters wont ROI ever and even with that , when I see stuff like this , I just want to take out a huuuuuge loan and buy thousands of usb erupters just for the looks of it Cheesy
It could be that he bought them at the start of the USB Block Erupters. That way he could get ROI.

they aren't ASICminer USB Erupters. The LEDs are the wrong color.
768  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Block Erupter Blade (New Model)]Low Price, Limited Quantity on: September 08, 2013, 10:07:26 PM
Is that no because the linux is for an arm processor?  Or that the resources onboard are only sufficient for the specific mining task?

Maybe the way to go would be with a hacked Linksys router; it having linux installed then stratum-mining-proxy installed and dedicated to the Blade(s).

If limited resources and not expandable, then that might be for any number of reasons.  One might be to prevent something like a cgminer installation as that would show each and every ASIC.  If one were running poorly it might not really show in the overall stats but if one were running cgminer and looking at the stats of each ASIC it would be clear.

the linux if it is that is most likely in ROM and unmodifiable.
769  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: My Name is... on: September 08, 2013, 04:43:58 PM
My name is Guitar of the famous land "Plinker" and here's my story.

I heard about bitcoin mining right during the largest price bubble in history ($266) and watched as my 7850 struggled to mine any serious amount of coins. I then watched as the price dropped, and, in turn, my profits. This wasn't my first experience with mining, I started mining probably two months before for less than a day, but stopped because I said "screw this, I'm only making 0.03BTC per day, that's just mere pennies!" I shall never forgive myself for this decision.

Anyway, I mined on my 7850 for around a month, it probably generated around 0.3 BTC. Then I got the big guns; a 5970 I found used, and paid $225 for. Unfortunately the babbling idiot I am I said "250W from a single fan card? No problem, a small room can disperse that heat easy-peasy!" Then I realized it generated enormous amounts of heat and noise, and unfortunately exactly a week later I rage-sold it for $225. Nothing lost, 0.09BTC gained. Cheesy

Then I gave up on bitcoin mining at around 21 million difficulty, too high for me. I bought a cheap used Gigabyte 7950 for $200 in early July. I went to LTC instead then, hoping the price would go up when it got to Gox. Hasn't got to Gox yet and I'm still holding my Litecoins that I mined. Then I moved to DGC for over a month, made a decent amount on them until 3 days ago when multipool went whacko and I moved to Middlecoin.

In total I've made around $150 at current exchange rates.

Next!
You fail in life, next!
(Joke)

HEY!!! Be nice, no need for attitude in this thread.

Hey Dave!!! Have you considered accepting Personal Checks that are Snail Mailed? Sometimes Old School works. Wink

My bad,  I thought it was white.   Wink

Either way,  I was unable to acquire one.

yeah, out of 50 i only have one of those.
772  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [220'000 GH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees, Stratum, MergedMining, Private Servers on: September 08, 2013, 01:11:38 AM
Does anyone have White?

Of the original colors,  that is what I'm missing.

I don't recall there being a white. that is probably silver.
773  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Which USB hub to use with Block Erupters or K1? A List. on: September 08, 2013, 01:07:08 AM
Are they plugged into another hub? D-Links are organised internally as two chained 4-porter hubs. I have 10 of them and they all run 6 BEs each, provided they are fed with a powered USB in addition to AC adapter; otherwise 5.

By the way, mc_lovin sent me a pic of his D-Link setup. Hope it's OK to share with the rest:

They are all plugged into cards in the computer. I think the cards don't give enough extra boost with more than one hub in them.

I got 3 d-link 7 ports today. oddly, i couldn't get them to run more than 4 in each. Undecided

I've got some other ports in transit. I've got 7 erupters without ports still. aaaaahhhhh!

I'm not altogether convinced that they tested or burned in the m-boards....

When i was working, one of our favorite sayings was "There is always time to do it right the second time." In this case, we pushed them to meet their schedule. They had no choice but to rush things through.
779  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: **US** BitFury Setup Guide on: September 07, 2013, 12:19:48 AM
I'm thinking that what we are seeing is a reason for 24 hour burn-ins. I understand that we are all in a hurry. i am too, but once the rush is past, consider extended burn-ins, perhaps pointed at the new owners account. Wink

Well shoot...I was getting excited about finally writing a guide for running a BE Blade on BTC Guild...then I found out I have to cut up 12v wires from a power supply and buy fans if I ever plan to use one.  Was really hoping the new models were at least remotely plug & play.

They use getwork also.
