7601  Other / Meta / Re: Please advise on the rules to the forum on: November 20, 2014, 03:26:09 PM
i think the rule on refferal links need to changed a bit to something like thebotnet use. for example referral links are allowed alsong as a non refferal link is also provided

That still will cause people to spam the threads all over in the hope that people will click on their links. Do we really need newbs creating several threads a day about how you can get 200 satoshis an hour or whatever on freesatoshis.org?

7602  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Btc Price Was Higher Last Year Than Today on: November 20, 2014, 08:02:15 AM
And I have a feeling it will be like this at least for the next couple of months. Although, I've been involved in BTC for several years now, so I'm over the price thing. If you look at the bigger picture and realize what BTC can bring to the table, price is hardly part of the equation.

Exactly my thinking. I think the fiat value will likely stay low or even drop from time to time for the next year or so, but I see the massive potential in btc within a few years time or more. Hopefully many major merchants will have got involved by then which is what we need so bitcoin is seen as a viable currency or medium of exchange and not just a risky speculative investment.

Unless of course you're in it only for the speculative aspect, purely for the profit like majority of the people are.

Which sadly seems to be the majority nowadays.
7603  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Want to buy Bitcoin with Ukash on: November 20, 2014, 07:55:58 AM
He must mean he got scammed on localbitcoins, though if it wasn't then that must've been the fastest scam here in bitcointalk history.

Ask over in the Currency Exchange as I'm sure there are many people who will accept ukash. Use a trusted escrow though.

Thanks for the promo.
7605  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Starter Gift Set for Christmas season --- Thoughts? on: November 20, 2014, 07:02:30 AM
Looks pretty cool and would make a nice gift. Are the bitcoins on the coin or an additional paper wallet?

I've been wondering what to get my friend for Christmas and I really like this idea! Seems like the perfect way to get friends and family into Bitcoin even if they know nothing about it

You could just design them a nice paper wallet or card and give that to them.
7606  Other / New forum software / Re: Internal ChangeTip Mechanism on: November 20, 2014, 06:57:14 AM
I've thought about that before, but I think that there might be legal problems with that. It might make the forum a "money transmitter".

Surely not with changetip? Could that not just be implemented? I think I'd like to see this feature as long as it didn't cause any problems like people have already mentioned.
7607  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: SELLING BITCOINTALK ACCOUNTS on: November 20, 2014, 06:33:45 AM
This should really be stopped or done only within trusted members network. It's very much ok that way than selling senior member account or full member account to some newbies

taking away  the registration date , activity count and post count would be the best way to solve this or at least make it invisible so every member appears equal

no trusted
no senior
no hero etc

take away the incentive to buy trusted accounts to use in scams ......

This would be counterproductive and have the opposite effect. Scams would go up considerably if we were all 'equal'. Age of account, activity and trust etc are all helpful when dealing or trusting a user but that doesn't mean you should blindly trust everyone who has a certain amount of those things but they are all valuable informations to help you make your mind up about an account. Should long-time and trusted members like tomatocage and vod etc be the same as some random newb? No.
7608  Other / Meta / Re: Why even a market like our own needs regulations on: November 19, 2014, 06:12:32 AM
You might be able to get people to invest in some other business idea or to do a deal without escrow or something but if it's out of character you should be suspicious (always check their feedback to see if their password has been reset recently), but even trading with supposedly "trusted" veteran accounts you should still exercise caution. Accounts can be hacked or just go rouge anytime and there's nothing you can do to stop that.
7609  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: Selling bitcointalk accounts on: November 19, 2014, 06:08:12 AM
Badbear, administrator of bitcointalk has started a campaign against account sellers.

What makes you say this? If this was the case wouldn't you and all the other accounts be banned? He usually only bans farmers after they've been caught making shitposts from several accounts.

7611  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: New BitCoin Betting Site on: November 19, 2014, 05:44:13 AM
Looks too new. Maybe it's yours?

Usually it is when a newb signs up just to 'ask' about a site. I'd advise caution with this to anyone. Just use an existing trusted dice site like PrimeDice or something (other dice sites are available) than take the risk with a new one.
7612  Other / Meta / Re: Why even a market like our own needs regulations on: November 19, 2014, 05:36:55 AM
That is a recipe for disaster, because a user may purchase a well trusted, veteran account with an excellent trust rating, then use it to operate a High Yield Investment Ponzi schemewithout any suspicion from its victims.

If anyone else has solutions to counter this issue, please share them with us.

Don't invest in ponzis? Problem solved. If I or John K sold our accounts do you really think people would just blindly invest? No. We'd get negative feedback from the community likely within minutes. Accounts are allowed to be sold because there's absolutely nothing you can do to regulate it or stop it.

Newbs can post anywhere now. I've moved it to digi goods.
7614  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Government paid shills are among us. It's real Ed Snowden release info on it. on: November 18, 2014, 11:00:54 PM
I wonder how someone would get a job doing this? Is there some sort of paid troll agency? It would be interesting to see what sort of businesses or people they actually trolled and if they did any actual damage. Could be some lawsuits in this if your business or reputation has been tarnished or even ruined.
7615  Economy / Digital goods / Re: [WTS] Hello Fresh £25 Gift Card on: November 18, 2014, 07:45:06 PM
You can try sell it, but I doubt someone will buy it. I doubt I'll even be able to give mine away for free.
7616  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: [WTB] forum accounts VIP/Donator only on: November 18, 2014, 07:37:53 PM
That's just for Member accounts not Full Members.
7617  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: [WTB] forum accounts VIP/Donator only on: November 18, 2014, 06:31:51 PM
Yeah, but unless the price is astronomically higher for a legendary account it would hardly seem worth it. The guy is offering 0.01BTC for a Full Member account. If that's actually your real account and you're not farming it, how much of a difference can getting that four bucks to buy a Pumpkin Spice Latte make?

I can assure you a Legendary account will get you more than a Pumpkin Spice Latte. I've seen Hero member accounts go for a couple of btc in the past.
7618  Economy / Digital goods / Re: [WTS] Hello Fresh £25 Gift Card on: November 18, 2014, 06:11:58 PM
Lol. You get these sent out free with Amazon parcels etc. I'm sure there's likely a catch to using them or something as well. Doubt anyone will want one let alone buy one but if anyone does you can have mine for free.
7619  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: [WTB] forum accounts VIP/Donator only on: November 18, 2014, 05:58:20 PM
Thanks for the info. It's probably a good idea to take advantage of the market and low prices right now as I'm sure it's only a matter of time before more campaigns start popping up. I know of two or three potential ones that are looking at starting or re-starting but they could fall through.

You've to keep in mind that there are new Sr. and Hero ranks being awarded every two weeks. That means an abundance of sellers, and also a lowering in signature campaign rates (demand/supply).
You also need to take into consideration the fact that as time goes on accounts will get banned, people will forget their passwords, will attempt scams and receive negative trust, will simply lose interest in participating in the forum (and forget about their accounts). So there will be some level of reduction in the supply of senior accounts, this may or may not be enough to counter the fact that more full members are receiving promotions.

True, but the account farmers and people eager to capitalise with signature campaigns will probably outstrip bans and abandonned accounts.

I can't imagine why anyone would want to sell a legendary account, even if they are not using it anymore. Signature campaigns would hardly justify it, and I'd imagine it would drive most people crazy to have their years established online identity used to spam posts for sub-penny amounts. That would leave more nefarious uses of the account, and most people wouldn't want anything unsavory that the new account owner did following them around.

Same reason as always: money. Sometimes people don't want to sell their prized possession but they have or just want to.
