7661  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Paper wallet QR code reconstruction on: February 15, 2021, 04:18:40 PM
There's a topic here on pretty much the similar problem.

The idea is that the more characters are missing the time (and energy) to brute force it rises exponentially easily getting beyond anything useful ( 3 * 10^13 years if 12 characters are known )
And if you also don't know the correct position of those characters, it gets even more difficult/lengthy.
7662  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SUSPICIOUS ELECTRUM on: February 15, 2021, 02:22:32 PM
Indeed, it's a phishing/scam/copycat website. My browser or one of its extensions is detecting it as scam.
Normally the site should be also reported into threads like this one ( https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5126880 ), but I see it's unmaintained for years Sad
Maybe somebody else knows of a better maintained of (Electrum) phishing/copycat websites.

The rule is to not search, since SEO can trick now and then search engines into delivering malicious websites. Instead just go to electrum.org

LE: let's include those images for the others to see them (I've also made them a bit smaller)

7663  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: BTC wallet sweeper on: February 15, 2021, 11:14:45 AM
Is there a tool that tries to log in to BTC addresses and swipes the coins from and sends them to a specific address?

BTC addresses are not accounts, hence you don't "log in" to them.
If you know the (seed or) private key, any wallet can do the operation you need.

You'd be better if instead of buying account you'd have your own newbie account, read more and also ask in Beginners & Help...
7664  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: A few questions about hardware wallets on: February 15, 2021, 09:51:16 AM
I think I'll buy a trezor one, since I make many transactions daily and I can't open the laptop with electrum every single time I want to transact. I need to just connect a usb with my PC and be able to move bitcoins. Although, I have some questions to make before giving the 59 EUR.

  • What happens if someone steals it? I assume that once you write the 24 words, anyone with the device and its PIN has access to your funds.
  • I know that the firmware is open-source, but how can I verify that? Telling me that a software is open-source means that I can build it and ensure that the program is the binaries of the source code. But on firmware, how exactly can I build it?
  • Is it necessary, for the mnemonic, to be 24 words? Can't it be 12 words? There's no reason to write 24 words, unless you want to brute force it sometime in the future.
  • How's the electrum experience? Is it easy to use it? Is the LN also available?
  • What are the dangers? AFAIK, the hardware wallet signs the transaction and sends it back to the computer, thus the private keys never "touch" your computer. But is there anything I should be afraid of? For example, should I connect my hardware wallet on a publicly shared computer, that is most probably virus/malware infected, or not?

Thank you.

I have Ledger, but I've also read a lot about Trezor and I think that I know some of the answers you need:
  • If somebody steals it you'd better move the funds away asap since physical tampering can allow them steal your funds. It was discussed here on Bitcointalk.
  • I think that I've seen a discussion on this not long ago, but I couldn't find it now
  • the Electrum experience is nice. I recommend it. I use Electrum with my HW and it's not much different from simple (no-HW) use. You do have to plug in the HW at very start and you'll also need it for signing tx, and most of the details of the tx will also be on the HW screen for verification. But the rest is normal use, really, you may almost forget that HW is there.
  • I didn't use LN but as long as you have bech addresses on, I think that LN should be possible (I cannot check now since right now I'm not on bech addresses).
  • You have to be careful and avoid unknown computers. Especially a malicious wallet can still do bad surprises (for example the change address is not displayed on my HW and that could be exploited). I'm not a hacker, but I am sure that this is not the only potential problem. Instead of an unknown computer I prefer (for emergencies) my own phone with Mycelium and the HW on OTG.
7665  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will not reach $50,000 on: February 15, 2021, 08:04:39 AM
Mostly because of this: Grin
~snip~
But yeah, that is the conclusion everyone should know by now,  every number could be the new ATH for the next 2 or 10 years
I have a feeling the 32 to 1$ crash is dying of envy right now.

I didn't expect an answer to the rhetorical question, but we are on the same page, and you've also provided me the first good laugh for this week, and that's what I've actually merited.

Its bloodbath all over the market before touching the $50k after this small correction It will finally reach this level but be very careful from here as for sure a lot of sell pressure will happen and afraid it will be like 2017 that its the final top in this bull market, $50k is imminent and a huge correction -30%-40% after this is also possible so always take profit.

8% for Bitcoin, from which half is already recovered, is far from a bloodbath. 12% for Monero may look like a bloodbath, but it can be seen as a healthy correction after 7 days of continuous growth.
Yes, people take profit now and then, but while it's good to be aware/careful, we don't have to freak out. And maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about, but 30-40% correction is not so much likely (a big correction, maybe, but that big.. hmmm).
7666  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Portfolio allocation on: February 15, 2021, 07:48:45 AM
does this sound ok?

"By the book" you should have at least 50% BTC. You have that. Good.
The riskier the rest of the portfolio is, the more % should be BTC, but LTC and ETH should not be that risky.
Although it's not how my portfolio would (actually does) look like, but as long as you did your homework on which coin has what potential to rise (or not fall), you should be "fine".
(Just a reminder, don't invest more than you afford to lose, else you'll be very stressed when the market will have bad times and you may do stupid moves.)
7667  Economy / Speculation / Re: Most dangerous Bitcoin monthly closing candle on: February 15, 2021, 07:42:09 AM
Yeah, I am a perennial short-term bear (long-term bull) if that's what I need to label myself and it would seem the test has failed yet again. I'm not pessimist, though, just always keen to apply the brakes because I've seen what happens in a relentless but short-lived rally.

I think that one doesn't have to be a bull or a bear in order to expect a correction after an overly big/stiff move.
Also with Bitcoin and crypto you never know when somebody decides he's good and want to cash in the fiat profits, since many traders/investors only care to grow their fiat.
Labeling yourself may be misleading or incorrect too. Usually one leaves to the others to label him, but in this case that may not be possible either.

I frankly admit that i was wrong in this analysis that the big wick was the market cycle top.

It takes guts to admit when you're wrong. I see it as the good step forward, towards better predictions.
In Bitcoin markets there are many things that matters, from history to perception and to sudden moves or news that can trigger massive response from other traders. Tesla news was probably such a case, although the overall sentiment is imho still bullish, with or without Tesla buy.
7668  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hello I have a deal for a week that has not been approved How do I raise the gui on: February 15, 2021, 06:27:44 AM
That's a scam.

Uhhh. Noted. Sorry.
On the other hand, I wrote that he should not tip in advance, since I don't have big expectations from those services.

Accelerators that are not offered by major pools are scams. These are the only pools that can accelerate a bitcoin transaction with any success:

btc.com is still a pool that did mine 5 blocks in the last 12h, so it could be very well on your list.

If those suggestions are bit complicated for you or you didnt able to reach out or able to tell that sender.
Then you wouldnt have any choice but to wait up.

Although the mempool did clear up better than I expected and pretty close to this tx, it's now Monday so I don't have many expectations.
But you are right, if OP cannot follow this, just wait. The tx will - sooner or later - either go through, either get dropped and the money will return to him.

PayPal sunt mai sinceri si mai directi, cinste lor Smiley Revolut face acelasi lucru, dar nu iti spune la fel de "verde-n fata".

Da, ambii practic ofera IOU (I owe you) in crypto si nimic mai mult.
Doar ca... nu zicea PayPal ca anul asta o sa lase userii sa faca ce vor cu crypto, adica inclusiv depozite si retrageri (evident, in crypto)?
S-a schimbat ceva? Au dat-o la intors?
7670  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will not reach $50,000 on: February 14, 2021, 04:46:12 PM
Just like the last bull run, bitcoin did not reach $20,000 and the price corrected hard.

You are comparing apples with oranges.
The previous minimum was 200-250$ (maybe less) and indeed that bubble ended just before 20000$. 100 times growth.
Now the minimum was 3000-3500$. So why wouldn't this bull run or bubble go until nearly 300k$? It's just as good number as any.
7671  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hello I have a deal for a week that has not been approved How do I raise the gui on: February 14, 2021, 04:28:46 PM
* RBF is not enabled, you cannot increase fee.
* there's only one output which probably is not you, hence for CPFP you have to ask the recipient spend that input with overly increased fee.
* your fee is only 7.1 sat/vByte, so the free accelerators I know won't accept it, so I cannot help with that

I see 3 solutions:
1. One solution would be to ask recipient to us CPFP, meaning to spend the unconfirmed input from you with very high fee.
2. Another solution, but I have no idea if it would work, is to ask on this thread ( https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5034315.0 ), somebody claims to be able to do it (but don't tip him before your tx actually gets confirmed)
3. Paid accelerators. But they are overly expensive ( pushtx.btc.com shows 85$ you'd have to pay, as estimation )

7672  Other / Serious discussion / Re: How much money is enough money? on: February 14, 2021, 04:17:01 PM
At what point will one say that he or she has had enough money?

It depends a lot by each and every person, since with more money at hand people always tend to spend more. And the country they are living in.
I've read somewhere many years ago that a study concluded a number around 3M USD, iirc.
Then some may count it by the yearly income they'd expect multiplied by the life expectancy. This depends also by the size of household, but I think there again the number is at least 1.5-2M USD.

Lately many tell that the number could be much simpler: 1 BTC. But they may be just dreamers and we get into speculation.
7673  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hello I have a deal for a week that has not been approved How do I raise the gui on: February 14, 2021, 03:59:07 PM
1. If you would have posted the tx id, we could have gotten more precise information, now all we can is to guess.
2. In case your transaction has RBF flag set, you can increase fee for that transaction.
3. In case at least one of the outputs of that transactions goes to your wallet (for example the change), then you can do CPFP, meaning that you'll have to send that change to another address of yours with a much much larger fee, big enough to pay for both transactions.

But this is the theory. The actual tx id and the wallet you've used could give more info.
7674  Economy / Reputation / Re: ChipMixer directly enables Scammers, Drug Dealers, CP, Terrorists, Tax Evaders.. on: February 13, 2021, 08:04:52 PM
How do you feel knowing that your sig profits are coming directly from the fees of the most egregious criminals you can imagine as they successfully evade every law you advocate for?

The way the thing go in the world call that if you say something like this, it could be useful to also .. prove it...
However, ChipMixer does for Bitcoin what I always loved about Monero: it helps avoid too curious people from taking a look into your pockets.
Criminals use it? Maybe. Criminals also use US dollar bills and I don't see people giving up to that. Criminals use guns, but I don't see police forces giving up to guns. Criminals use knives, but I don't see you advocating against them.
So.. your point is... ?

I've said it before: the agencies should start finding better ways to catch criminals than invade absolutely everybody's privacy. Especially as governments and agencies are subject to mistakes, corruption, crooked employees, leading to abuses against privacy.

Stai, stai!

7676  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Email extortion/blackmail for Bitcoin. on: February 13, 2021, 06:11:29 PM
According to reports, most likely blackmailer gained emails from Ledger leaked database. So, don't be confused if you received such as mail. This is totally fake, scammer can't do anything.

I remember I've seen somebody reporting such e-mail long ago, way before the Ledger customers' database leak.
Although the scammer may have gotten now more personal details from the leaked data, I would not tie it to Ledger. The idea is older, the mails have started before.

Of course, it's just a scammer gone fishing. If somebody falls for it, he is in luck. But he has nothing, he can't do anything. And even if he would have, you have no guarantee that he will stop, instead I expect the opposite if he receives money. So yes, the mail has to be reported as spam and removed. That's all.
7677  Other / Meta / Re: Do you click on signatures? on: February 13, 2021, 11:03:35 AM
if you tend to visit these exchanges/mixers/casinos/<everything else> that are advertised and if yes, if you go further than that.

I think that what you are asking is somewhat misleading / not well asked.

I am here on this forum for some years now and at some point my signature even had my referral link in it. Back then I was disappointed, since my referral got only one click, I think. And I was thinking "why signature campaigns then?"
Later on, I've studied my own behavior. I do go now and then to advertised websites, especially if it's in my area of interest. But most of the time I went there directly, not by clicking on the signature.
So I'd conclude that most the businesses earn is awareness and the "leads" from signatures could be a very poor unit of measure.

I'd also add that imho if a signature is here for years, people know that the business is stable and reliable, hence there's bigger chance to choose them instead an unknown competitor.
7678  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Can I send another payment if I have unconfirmed transaction? on: February 13, 2021, 10:20:21 AM
It is a binance wallet the one that I sent money to.

Then you should be OK.

Also I noticed now, at a second look, that you have other coins/inputs in your wallet, at that address.
If you make another transaction with inputs unrelated to this unconfirmed transaction.. it's basically like you would make the transaction from another wallet. (Like you would be using a different banknote from the same wallet, although from the first banknote you didn't receive the change yet.)
7679  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Can I send another payment if I have unconfirmed transaction? on: February 13, 2021, 09:27:52 AM
Will I receive the other amount too if it get confirmed ? Or it will be stuck forever.

First of all, don't think the fee in USD, it's useless, think ait in sat/vByte. Your tx has 24.4 sat/vbyte. The current fees are around 40-50 sat/vbyte.
If you want to spend (parts of) the rest of 0.00198082BTC, you can, depending on your wallet and settings, but keep in mind that:
* if for some reasons the first transaction is not confirmed, the second will be also remain unconfirmed
* if you put a higher-than-normal fee to the second transaction, that should make also the first transaction get confirmed faster (it's called CPFP - child pays for parent)
* since it's week-end, there's a good chance the first transaction doesn't need any help / CPFP in order to get confirmed ... today or tomorrow

If you are paying for a product and had a certain amount to pay to a one-time generated address, please be careful to what @o_e_l_e_o  said: a second tx could just cause more troubles. In such case you better discuss with the service/seller's support first.
7680  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Sent payment stuck on unconfirmed for over 12 hours - second time trying to send on: February 13, 2021, 09:13:12 AM
Beware of acceleration services, as I've never been able to find one that works or a person who won't price-gouge you for the service.  If you google around looking for accelerators, there's a bunch of duds that show up in the first few pages, and I'd say 90% or more of them are just spam websites.

I've used ViaBTC in 2017 for free, I've used it for free in 2021, it works. Of course, you need a bit of patience and luck.
Googling around will get you to re-announcers branded as accelerators or expensive paid services. On the other hand, here on the forum there's at least one thread/account that does the job for free/voluntary tip.

And of course that you don't have to rely on accelerators as ultimate solution. If you read up a little you'll see that I've recommended RBF always on as the solution when nothing else worked and following the fees in order to pick the right one for the actual (speed) needs.
