They look bigger because they're 120mm and the centre ones are 92mm. You can tell without any other scale measurements by the ratio of the motor/bearing housing and the frame.

No it doesn't. They're designed to STACK horizontally.
The boards are connected to the case only on the bottom. So if you put the case vertical, you'll put a lot of stress on the few screws that hold the board to the case. The black Avalons seems to be better than the silver ones, but better be save than sorry. And you don't think they took 100x the stress during transit?

isn't anyone starting thinking that the Winklevoss brothers have a natural talent for getting the business "almost" right and yet never really make it? ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) NB: no trolling intended, just a joke. I am holding a big bag of coins like many here (and nope I am not selling). But at least they seem to have an idea what will succeed or not? They had some insight to think that Facebook would work. So I guess I am pulling for them on this one for sure! No they didn't. It was never their idea, they never touched it nor did anything with it. They waiting until it was a multi billon $ company then qq'ed.

Edited #13 to reflect delivery time on regular Batch #2 orders: 13) Time of Avalon regular order arrival: July 3rd, 2013 11:30 AM CST
Hoping to hear about trade-ins soon.
My regular order Avalons were received in great condition, they were definitely used for mining, as others have stated. They were set on Extreme for the 24-hour burn-in test. One of the units had an orange LED light up, I put it back to Advance for chip frequency and reset cgminer and it appears to be running more stable. I'll probably fiddle around with these settings and other firmware at some point in the future, but for now I'm going to leave them in a stable state as I continue to work at my day job.
I'm going to start looking for a commercial/industrial real estate option soon to get these out of my living quarters.
How many do you have?

If a hashing chip dies, it just hashes slower unless it exploded etc. There are 3 components, the ethernet controller, the power delivery board and the hashing board. All 3 are interchangable.
Its not the requirement of a computer which is a problem, its that a computer needs to be on all the time.
I didn't know if chips fail that it still works. Are ethernet controller and power delivery board readily available? A 'blade' is a set of all 3. If one fails, friedcat will send you one out for free.

Blades should be cheaper then USBs for many reasons. Redundancy - If something breaks on your blade the whole blade is out but it's not likely 30 USBs break at once. Divisibility - You can sell as many or as few USBs waiting for top price while they hash away.
Its the other way around. USBs need USB hubs USBs need *disputed* usb fans to cool USBs can't exhaust the heat as easily in a farm USBs take up WAY WAY WAY WAY more space USBs require a host computer USBs require a lot of cabling Blades are under warranty, USBs are sold with redundancy rather than a warranty. Blades are modular. I'm not trying to argue just this is strictly to learn more. How modular is the blade? Are you saying if a hashing chip or two busts it's easy to repair/replace? What about other components like a controller or power delivery system? As far as heat and space you are correct for multiple blades but it's unlikely to be a huge issue for a buyer deciding between a blade or even two and three or six usb hubs. Also I'm pretty sure anyone who uses BTC has a computer. ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif) If a hashing chip dies, it just hashes slower unless it exploded etc. There are 3 components, the ethernet controller, the power delivery board and the hashing board.
