No victim creates flag = no scam happened. That's what the system is now. And we're back to troll + 20 alt accounts = scam happened. This system is 10 steps back - it'd almost be better if everything was deleted. |

Anyway that member should be reported to Mods for breaking the rules, a feedback/flag for that is a terrible idea.

Showing what is essentially a scammer flag to people with account ages only less than 7 days essentially just opened the door to 10,000's of scammers. There are so many accounts that I've previously tagged that I no longer can, because it doesn't fit into the narrow definitions.
For example, the guy with 20-30 accounts who is permabanned off the site but who keeps creating more... I can't 2. or 3. tag him, and 1. will do next to nothing...

only around -2500 trust between the two accounts. man you DT trust guys are slackers. That sais something about your trust settings... I've got them at about - 12.500...  yeah your number is much more realistic. i should update my trust list. as i dont really use trust, i currently only have the default trust plus one person ive bought stuff from. Set custom trustlist always... you will see OG nasty was shilling BFL for fun back in the day and he is on DT.. Yeah that whole saga was... interesting... |

Dogie is indeed excluded by several Newbies who were last active around the same date. It nicely shows the importance of a Merit requirement for voting power.

For reference: 24. Advertisements (including signatures within the post area) in posts aren't allowed unless the post is in a thread you started and is really substantial and useful.
I think there should be no ads unless you are advertising something directly related to the thread's subject. I don't see anything from your reference that says the ad should be related to the thread. I think "Substantial and Useful" refers to the content of the post and not the ad. That was my understanding. Man you're all over the place this morning, made for some good reading. Thanks for the context on this; I had no idea you were holding auctions for ad spots much like the forum advertising is done. When reading that I just assumed it was referral links you had worked out with manufacturers or parts sellers. Either way it made sense for your topics to serve as an example, I'm surprised there was so much backlash over something like that. Was it mostly from members who weren't able to get permission?
The general trolls and suchlike, but as the admin'ing in /hardware/ seems to be either non-existent or extremely biased (as it always has been), these trolls would litter my threads continually without repercussions. |

You've got the FTC to thank for that. BFL were likely to deliver a large number of units, but the FTC came in, squatted on the company, billing charging $1m+ a month in professional fees until the company ran out of money. It was a weird situation, and I doubt the FTC person in charge did much for their careers. |

The rule was seemingly put in place after discussing it with dogie, who if your not familiar with created a ton of the original "How to for Miners". Which was without a doubt very useful information. There were also some examples of threads that were deemed not worthy put forth by ..... ummmm ..... well you can read it.
To add some context, there was a discussion around the time I considered publishing on CoinDesk instead. They would have paid me, while the forum obviously does not. Similarly, I could have self-hosted (which I do, just as a backup on dogiecoin.com) and directed forum traffic to there, but that too seemed like a sub-optimal option. I was merely looking to cover basic costs, and so discussed with Theymos about a revenue share on the forum ads shown on my threads - which wasn't insignificant given the traffic and CPMs back then. He decided it was easier to allow me to inject some of my own ads into the threads. I'd have to check on a $ figure, but they didn't really make all that much IIRC and eventually, it wasn't worth the continued hassle of running the auctions, updating 30+ threads every 10 days, or the hassle some members would give. |

A good example of this happening was CITM who had an outsized trust list that was not kept up with, which resulted in many scammers eventually getting onto DT via him; after some time, it became widely known his trust list was not good, and there became calls for him to be removed from DT1 (IIRC, he was only removed when he gave a frivolous rating to Dogie, which IMO was far too late).

+1 for adding some sort of exhaust fan. At the moment, those miner fans are somewhat competing with each other (especially at the bottom). I'm sure it's fine as it is, but there is always the risk that wind in the wrong direction may overcome those already stressed miner fans and prevent significant exhaust. A large, low RPM fan (even a box fan) would be perfect here.

The market really, really slowed down with the decreased prices, such that the only companies that survived were absolutely huge and had outgrown their need for me. There was no chance of making a living off product guides alone (in fact I'd often lose money on the man hours), and with the consulting revenue from the larger companies gone it didn't make sense to continue. Neither did companies like Spondoolies refusing to pay any of their commissions. + I then moved to the US, and visa restrictions make it annoying enough to not want to be a consultant during school. |
