If this is an Electrum installer standalone that you downloaded from an old PC before then maybe the installer is corrupted. Electrum offers three different versions for their apps: - A portable app
- An installer for Windows
- A standalone app
The portable is self-explanatory. The Windows installer has to be installed on the computer before it can be used. The standalone file doesn't require any installation. You just double-click on it and it runs. But it's still gonna look for wallet files in the standard Electrum location. That's probably what caused OPs errors. |

If there is, that's a noob or innocent one that is new to the crypto world or considerable as a lazy one because it doesn't even have their own research regarding the no-brand wallet use. Those are exactly the victims that scammers target. What you explained is not different from any other scheme that is created for newbies, those who are greedy, careless, and don't take the required amount of time to consider the consequences of their actions. Let say if they(scammer) modify the HW wallets and you bought it from the unofficial distributor store, I think the reset button is enough in the first place to secure your wallet and the hacker has nothing to do because it will generate another seed phrase and address. It wouldn't be enough if someone managed to create what I explained in my previous post in this thread. Besides, the scammers could use the leaked Shopify/Ledger databases to send out their fake products. We have already seen something like that not so long ago. |

I just checked and I have 0 out of 7 as I filled in the predictions for round 2 instead of round 1 lol. Good thing is that I now have more time to do some more research. I hate to break it to you, but you won't be able to edit your predictions. They changed the rule of the competition for this season and once submitted, no more changes are permitted. If I understand the OP correctly, he is asking if it would be possible to create a wallet that always displays one or more receiving addresses of the hacker independent of what seed + seed extension the victim is using. The software of such a device would have no role at all, and would work as a regular hardware wallet where you are shown a seed to write down. But no matter what seed or passphrase you use, the device ends up displaying the same receiving addresses that ultimately leads to the victim making transactions to addresses that belong to the hacker. Is that it?
I don't think this is impossible.

UTXO B: 0.0011 BTC
UTXO C: 0.0012 BTC
If you want to send 0.001196 BTC (the fee is included), your wallet will probably use the UTXO C. This will cause your transaction to have a dust change.
OP is proposing an algorithm in which the wallet uses UTXOs A and B instead of UTXO C. That's where coin control features come in. If you don't want the change to be below the dust limit, use other inputs manually and learn how to do it. I wouldn't want to use a wallet that selects two or more inputs in order to avoid dust change, creating a bigger transaction with more fees, instead of just one input. But I do want to have the option to do that if that pleases me and coin control allows exactly that. |

Pozitivno je da Google nije izbacio ovaj mixer iz svojih rezultata, nešto što se npr desilo ChipMixer-u kada je clearnet stranica bila nedostupna prošli mjesec. If this law is applied by Theymos, the talk of merit hoarding will be a past. I don't believe theymos will make any significant changes to the merit system. Limiting someone on how much they can receive would be a drastic measure in my opinion. Instead, the community can do their part just like they do with scammers or account sellers. There are no rules that forces users to award posts with merits, but there are also no rules to selling Bitcointalk accounts or scamming someone and we know what happens with those people and their accounts if they are discovered. The sanction for those who don't send sMerits could be simple. You aren't going to get any because it's a waste of sMerits giving it to you when all you do is keep them for yourself. That's just another reason not to award them with more if you ask me. |

Their software has always been more updated and a much better design; most new German members are signing up there instead of German Bitcointalk because design matters. I wanted to check this, so I did a Google search using a few keywords to see which of the two forums are ranked better in the search results. This is what I found: 1. When you search " german crypto forum", the German local of Bitcointalk will be the 1st result, an Ethereum forum will be 2nd, and CoinForum is 3rd. 2. When you search " german bitcoin forum", again the German local of Bitcointalk is 1st and CoinForum is 2nd. It's a bit different if you search with German keywords: 1. A search with " deutsche crypto forum" places CoinForum on top and the German local of Bitcointalk on the 2nd place. 2. You get the same results searching for " deutsche bitcoin forum". What that shows is that both forums are easily found, but if Germans prefer CoinForum instead of Bitcointalk, the correct question we need to ask ourselves is why and how can it be corrected? |

By the way, I was surprised to see that there are some casinos that provide free withdrawals, meaning there are no transaction fees at all. I wonder how they manage this. They probably have such an extensive user base of players who have been with them for years that they can afford to pay the transaction fees instead of their customers because they are earning so much already. It's a gamble, but one they are willing to take. If one day they noticed a huge outflow of players and gaming activity on their sites, I am sure they would introduce withdrawal fees as well. It wouldn't be good for business continuing with their practices and generating losses. |

In my opinion, all casinos that charge additional withdrawal fees on top of the standard network transaction fee are just typical scammers. Many casinos (just like cryptocurrency exchanges) will force you to overpay on the withdrawal fees, but they are not going to tell you what is used for the mining fees and what is their own profit. You can put them in three categories basically: - Free withdrawals with no fees at all.
- Dynamic fees that change according to network conditions.
- Fixed fees that are usually way to high and are only occasionally changed by the site owners.

Hardware wallets are designed to be easy to use and safe. You won't make a mistake using a hardware wallet. You will be fine. But OP should still be careful. A hardware wallet won't warn you when you are about to make a serious mistake like sending funds to the wrong address, if you have a clipboard malware, if you are overpaying on the network fees, or making a mistake on the amounts being transacted. Doublecheck and then triplecheck if you are not sure. this is, in my opinion, the most proven method and the safest than all the others. I am a hardware wallet user myself, but I wouldn't claim that a hardware wallet is safer or provides a higher level of security than a properly configured airgapped computer. it's certainly easier to use and more user-friendly. Hardware wallet is secure and easy too use, but has some vulnerability and database hack. The database hack doesn't affect the security of your funds and private keys. It affects the privacy of those whose data got leaked though. In terms of vulnerabilities, what exactly do you mean? Trezor has an unfixable problem that could result in your seed being extracted. But that can be mitigated with a strong passphrase or a unique code saved on a SD card. Ledger has certain closed-source elements in its code related to the Secure Element. Although an issue, I wouldn't call it a vulnerability. |

I can think of many cases where the transaction ends up having an unreasonably high fee, the most common one is probably day traders wanting to get their coins to exchanges as fast as possible and try to be ahead of any possible fee spike. Another common one is those using a broken fee estimation mechanism or a third party fee estimator that is malicious and is suggesting them absurdly higher fees. There are also withdrawals from centralized exchanges and gambling platforms which always overpay and target quick confirmations. People tend to overpay the mining fees if they are using crypto to purchase goods or services and they have to pay a fixed coin amount within 10-15 minutes, otherwise the total sums will change. |

They would either stay the same or the devs would decrease the minimum withdrawal requirements and you would spend less sats. The only difference is that those sats are now worth more than what they were in the past. Your mistake is thinking in dollar amounts and converting the values to $. If the withdrawal fee of a casino is 0.0002 BTC and bitcoin goes up by 50%, but the fee still remains 0.0002 BTC, the fee hasn't increased. It has stayed the same. It's up to the casino operators to even out the changes. |

The forum isn't going to start from 0 posts and with all members being newbies starting from the bottom again. Everything will be exported and imported into the new forum software. I wish there was some way I could help out with handing out merits in local sections, but I don't speak any of the languages. If I were to be willing to trust a trusted member reporting an unmerited post that was worthy of merit (in their opinion) and merit it myself, do any of you think that would present a major issue? The only reason I want to do this is because I know some boards don't have their own merit sources (or simply enough merits to go around). If I could inject a bunch of merits into a local board, hopefully they'd continue to circulate among the members there.
Good idea, bad idea? Great idea! I think you can use Rikafip's monthly analysis as a starting point to see which members are active in which local boards. By looking at the names and comparing the stats month by month, you should be able to notice those that stand out in terms of local board activity. After that, see if any of those names are familiar to you and if you can trust them to point you towards posts in their local that deserve more merits. Start out from the boards that are at the bottom when it comes to receiving and sending merits. |
