Do we have a well organised swarm-team with email notification?
yes, 2

With mail chimp (free accounts up to 2000 registered subscribers) linked to a single email we could easily implement a swarm system with self-registration

http://eepurl.com/PT-qb (this is a test at the moment do not enter your details)

You sign up receive swarm requests.

If a swarm is needed

Someone logs into the mail chimp account enters the details and sends out a call-to-swarm.

At the moment its linked to a generic email nxtnews@hotmail.com but it can be linked to anything.

Someone from marketing want to pick up something like this?

WTF! But not nice they posted his house, bad journalism, all about getting visitors and attention.  Angry

+1 Ok its news if true but why post his house - unnecessary...
I really hope that this does not get out of hand, watch out for the press feeding frenzy,,,,
And the whacko's, people with a grudge because of Gox or malleability or whatever....
Feel really sorry for the guy whoever he is..

Also I think DGEX is very slow, Weak and expensive! The new one should be fast, Strong(like 2FA), and have more competitive Fees

Exactly. DGEX is a step backwards. We should source the community for what they want in an exchange, for devs, etc. Then build it as a community; distribute shares to contributors and sell the rest of the shares to the community or maybe even just distribute them to stakeholders and give a more proportional cut to those that contributed and built the exchange. NEM and the NEMxChange shares can be traded on the exchange and share holders can get a cut of fees. Have a typical shareholder voting system. Then the exchange is owned by the community. It could even branch out to other trading pairs based on what the community wants, etc, etc.

DGEX has just placed and sold almost 100k shares privately on its own website, most have gone so they netted about 12M NXT I think which hopefully will be invested into making that exchange better.

Its 100k of 300k shares so its only 30% in shared ownership but that means it values the whole exchange at 36M NXT  if I did my math right.

Maybe they will integrate NEM and then do a NEM based share placement too in the future.

More I think about Pooled Forging, more I don't like it. Does anyone have any ideas where this could lead to? Won't we face the same problem as Bitcoin (GHash)?

I put refactoring on hold until the community decides that it's safe for Nxt.

Instead of leasing forge power or Pooled Forging , you commit with your account to share fees among others in the same "share fee group" if you forge a node. You still try to forge a block on your own, but you commit to share the incentive with others if you are successful (with special conditions like committing to run the node for some time, ...).

share fee group (share fee pool or share fee Hubs) and limiting forging power of an account to 1.000.000 Nxt coin maximum . this means 10.000 nodes to ensure minimum network

Now imagine if I am correct with 1,000,000 Nxt coins pools (share fee group)

1.000.000.000 Nxt Coin
1.000.000 Nxt Coin per pool (share fee group)

10 accounts  90.000 Nxt 10 Node participate in forging
10 accounts  9.900 Nxt 10 Node participate in forging
10 accounts  100 Nxt 10 Node participate in forging

Total pool (share fee group) 1.000.000 Nxt
Total 30 Nodes participate in forging in this exemple

Chance to forge 0,001
rate forging 1440 blocs per day
526 Blocs per year
aprox 1,44 Blocs per day. 100 Nxt account is forging every day. receives fees in proportion to their funds every day!!!

1.000.000.000 Nxt Coin
1.000.000 Nxt Coin per pool (share fee group)
30.000 Nodes participate in forging. if there are only 30 accounts linked per pool (share fee group)

this means;

Extremely decentralized network (in the exemple 30.000 Nodes) and therefore very secure network
Small accounts motivated to participate in forging (In the exemple 100 Nxt account is forging every day not every 10 year)
rich and poor have the same chance to forge because everybody forge everyday!!!!

You just have to solve for the fees to be sufficiently attractive.

An interesting idea is to pay for other things like leased computing power
Other interesting idea is to pay for other things like leased memory storage capacity

Perhaps creating nodes coins proposed by jl777 implementing shared  fees pool  would be technically easier.

Could distribute node coins to the participants in the pool (share fee group) at all times proportion to the funds of each participant if any member had success in forging

I really like this idea because your node still has to be online to be part of the shared group.
It retains the decentralisation and number of nodes.
Forging is a bit like bingo/lottery anyway rather than mining and it smooths out the impact of penalty and people pool hopping if the pool was based on a single node...
So generally in stead of buying a single big ticket you are offering to share your ticket and any winnings with lots of others and vice versa
Penalties would only affect the nodes in the shared pool an would not take huge chunks of NXT out of the forging balance in one go by taking a whole pool out.

So has anyone researched the potential regulatory problems that we have for Asset Exchange and/or Cross Chain Transactions? That is, do we run into issues in the US for being a MSB, and do we need to do KYC and AML stuff.

I'd be willing to do the research and draft up a whitepaper if people would find that helpful or informative. My hope is that we can find a loophole that doesn't kill AE before it ever takes off, and the whitepaper would be the community's position on the issue(s).

I would like to see something like this.

Maybe, you could additionally explore the issue enlightenment regarding gambling addiction. I consider the AE as a place where many people can loose their money. We actually do not need regulation but ways of how to enlighten participants about gambling/loosing money etc. as some countries (e.g. Germany) require such thing in case of financial instruments.

I've understand that people can see  cryptocurrrencies as the loophole - well lots of crapcoin can claim occupy that space and thats not all i think we aspire NXT to be.

NXT should protect peoples privacy but also should seek to establish a level of trust, there may be areas where KYC and AML do not apply and there may be places like AE where frankly they will need to. WE as a community need to understand where these boundaries are or suffer the consequences.

I think we should value some intelligence on this and if you need any help proof reading, etc let me know.

The TestNxt was arrived ?

Yes arrived safely thanks - distributing across my test nodes...

testnxt-we.cloudapp.net - Western Europe
testnxt-ne.cloudapp.net - Northern Europe
testnxt-jp.cloudapp.net - Japan

I've got these monitored and alerted so if they break I should know.

All are open on 6875 and 6876 for requests.

I have also created an alias of testnxt.trafficmanager.net:7876 which will access which ever of the 3 nodes it can reach, to execute an api call

Thought this might be an interesting approach for production, as I understand it 7876 calls are stateless i.e. there is no session so you could be sent to a different node for each call.. If my understanding it right perhaps one of these would be useful for the live network so that light clients would always get a response rather than trying to contact a default node which has stopped.
790  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 04, 2014, 01:34:37 PM
Added a testnet node which is publicly visible at

testnxt-we.cloudapp.net

we = western europe, will add some more at different locations if this one is stable.

accepts connections for all 6874-6876 ports
I added some monitoring on API response and network traffic so if it dies I should get an alert and I can restart.

using up some cloud credits so this one and any others I add will stay around for then next month and then I will see based on the running costs.

Please can I have some testnxt to 2682312341463682985

Thanks

I'll volounteer to try to put up a node on test net if you can tell me how to switch a node to test net
I will explain in the release notes for 0.8.4e, hopefully later tonight.

Ok I'll look out for them - I have a VPS account I should be able to set it up on
792  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 03, 2014, 09:11:58 PM
I am setting up a test net server that I will be maintaining myself. I will need people to run additional test nodes, so that we have a real test network, not just one or a few servers. Perhaps some of our existing public nodes can be switched to test net instead.

793  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 03, 2014, 08:49:17 PM

Probably tomorrow (21.35 here) will be ok again - I just don't want we to rely on him because this is very important.
Unless the switch will come soon (end of week) so there is no point in making a new testnet.

Currently there are 2 guys working on it, one IT (he provides us with the server) and a programmer - the problem is with the programmer, so we need someone competent to talk directly (email, skype) with my IT guy!

Been reading the thread, including a search for all 'test net' topics but I can't find a description of what exactly is the problem with test net?
So that may disqualify me from helping or trying to find help because  I don't understand and its already clear.
But if its not been clearly posted can someone post  clear description and then maybe people might be able to see whether they can help?
794  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 03, 2014, 09:46:34 AM
multisig? decenteralized trust by adding more trustee? with potentially losing all stake if one trustee went awol? I honestly dont get it. please explain. Also gateways have full node using bitcoind? What year is this? Just use electrum. It is better that a full node in terms of tradeoffs, security, effeciency and consistency.

I can discuss this in length and details if the devs are interested.
Currently it is 2 of 3 multisig. If one of the signers disappeared, the other 2 would need to transfer to a new wallet, presumably adding a replacement third signer.

This is 2014. I was not aware electrum supported all the altcoins. I will try to find electrum for DOGE.

I am definitely interested as I am just a simple C programmer and always trying to learn.

James

Edit: Please explain how all gateways using the same electrum servers makes it more secure? I thought that having geographically separate servers running their own bitcoind would at least provide redundancy and if any one of them goes on a fork, the other two would notice.

I would go for N+1 of N+2 because of this - also if this gets big then for normal operational reasons i would have N+1 gateways anyway otherwise if one fails for operational reasons you are on N-1 and you are not quorate.
795  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: March 02, 2014, 09:20:15 PM

Exactly. Proof of Importance is NEM's best feature. PoI is what will set NEM apart from all other coins.

I'm sorry if I missed it but is there a link somewhere to how PoI works?  Is this actually a fully developed working thing, or just an idea at this point?  How is "hybrid PoS/PoI" different from NXT proof of stake?

I've read about it in the development plan, there is a few lines of description that is all, it is unclear how it will work or what behaviour it will drive. I await a more formal specification and formal review of the algorithm, like all good ideas there are intended consequences and unintended consequences...

If implemented as described, it will 'set NEM apart' but whether this is in a good way or not will be how the implementation is judged when it is seen out in the community - there is a lot of stealing of ideas so I'm not surprised there is little detail posted in order to prevent this - we will have to trust in the 'devs' and see what they finally decide on.
796  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 02, 2014, 08:17:51 PM
Just stating that other approaches could work because people do not like penalty, is leading nowhere.

Never said that. I said "it seems like"... I want mathematical proof, too.

BCNext used a wrong word. Actually it's not a penalty, it's a trick to bump forging power of the other accounts back to 100%.

Are you basically saying that preventing a node from forging for a period is essentially preventing a node forging or preventing an account forging.

I assume its preventing an account forging not the actual NRS instance i.e. its like the account had an effective balance of ZERO - that also explains the 24h because its 1440 blocks for an account balance to become effective again.

This would also automatically increase the forging of the remaining nodes because that NXT would not be included in the total able to forge.

Have I understood it right?

Therefore if an account was penalised you could log another account into that node and it would still have a chance to forge.
797  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: March 02, 2014, 08:12:06 PM

We are not talking about bitcoin like mining that is used to secure network for ever. We are talking about 2 month mining period that  is used to distribute coins to mining community outside of stakeholders and people who read this forum. Mining period will end and Nem will be 100% POS like Nxt.

I know you are not talking about mining to secure the coin... I'm flatly against 'mining' as a complete waste of everyones time and I don't think it ensures more fairness/equality than what NEM leadership are currently doing because all miners are not equal..

NEM has a large number of stakeholders and not all of them will hold onto everything otherwise the coin will go nowhere so the stakeholders need to put NEM to work and that will increase its distribution.

I like the Computing for Good / World Computing Grid initiative and its an interesting alternative to a faucet, i.e. instead of begging for some coins to get you started you have to do something for good, if the community picks this idea  up thats good, if not thats fine too.

Even my laptop donates 20% of its CPU now....
798  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 02, 2014, 07:47:22 PM
- build a great gateway á la james
- work hard on AT and atomic cross chain transactions
Without a doubt if we can achieve atomic cross-chain txs then we will have basically got rid of the business model for all exchanges that don't do fiat.
IMO "this is our job".
The future will not be centralised!
So could some stakeholders put the biggest chunk of bounty in history of mankind out there for atomic cross chain transaction on nxt please? During this time (this will take a while?!) we should have the best community driven gateway possible, which james is currently building.
+ to da moon
Moooooooon.....one small step for Nxt...one giant leap for Nxters.

799  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: March 02, 2014, 07:39:01 PM
I think POS better than POW.

PoW is bad for the environment and as soon as you launch even if its asic resistant the botnets move in and rape mine until the difficulty rises so mere mortals with home computers and laptops lose out.

If you want to do something good for the world - copy what ripple has done which I think it quite smart - put part of NEM 10,20,25% I don't know up for World Computer Grid stuff over a period of time e.g. 6-12 months.

People download the computer grid stuff, join team NEM and let the research projects around the world use their PCs for research computations that benefit us all. We read the team stats (which they can't fake) off the computing grid team stats page and award NEM every 24hrs as a result.

Its much more in line with the sense I have of the 'New Economic Movement'. My desktop at home is earning ripple when I'm not using it, has been since december, probably makes 60 xrp a day - I'm not covering the electric costs probably or making huge money and for the Ripple alone I wouldn't do it but I like the idea of helping the research projects too i.e. doing something good with the spare PC capacity.

You could market it as well ....

And because there isn't a 'pure' profit you don't get the botnets and the other professional miners moving in with their high end kit.
800  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 02, 2014, 01:42:20 PM
I think you can ensure that per gateway there is only one AE asset type for a RL Asset e.g. USD, I think this will avoid confusion, if you have a legit USD and a scammer can create US or USd or some variant people will get scammed.

We cannot force other people not to build a gateway on their own. We can build a nice community-drive gateway which could become very big and everyone uses it. But that's about it.

Quote
and be clear on the AE which gateway and asset is being traded through.

Absolutely.

Agreed, there will be other gateways...
People need to know who they are trading through..
The NXT Community Multi-Sig Gateway will be the gold standard...
