781  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Adding more RX580 to an existing rig on: January 08, 2018, 08:52:44 PM
The motherboard will use about 60 W. I have a 13 RX 580 dual mining rig on the ASRock H110 Pro BTC+ with a triple ATX PSU setup. You need to get a power meter so you can find out exactly how much power is being pulled from the wall. For maximum efficiency and longevity of your PSU, you don't want to run at more than 80% of the rated capacity. I have all three PSU's joined with a triple ATX cable so they come on and off together when the main PSU on the motherboard turns on/off. You also need to make sure you have enough PCI-E connectors for all the VGA power connectors and risers.

Other than possibly having a better chance of coming with better memory, there is not much difference in hash rate between 4GB and 8GB cards of the same model. The main difference would be a better resale value in the future. Though IMO, it's not worth paying more than an extra $25 per card.

Modifying and flashing the Bios from Linux is definitely not for the faint or new to doing so. On Windows the only tools you need are Polaris Bios Editor and Atiflash. Also the pixel patcher with RX 470/480/570 cards to bypass the driver signature check in Windows or you will have a code 43 error in Device Manager. You don't need the patch if you run the cards under Linux.

For the PBE 'one click timing patch' Bios mod I get the best results with Polaris Bios Editor v1.6.2. It automatically detects each memory type and adjusts the 1750 MHz and up straps with the bundled performance straps. PBE 1.6.1 adjusts from the 2000 MHz and up straps. PBE v1.6.3 and up adjusts the straps from 1500 MHz and up, but the 1750 MHz straps are more stable.

Performance is about the same, but the AMD blockchain drivers have an 8 card limit. The Crimson Relive 17.11.x and Adrenalin 17.12.x drivers let you run at least 13 cards and are compatible with the Windows 10 v1709 fall creators update.
Maybe you can tell : Adrenalin 17.12.x can handle 14 cards under windows ?

Many people report the motherboards won't POST with 14 or more GPU's. I believe 13 AMD cards is the limit under Windows. My ASRock H110 Pro BTC+ works fine with 13 RX 580 under Windows v1709 with the 17.12.2 drivers.

even with Asus 250 ?

The Asus B250 mining expert motherboard requires Nvidia P106 mining cards to even POST with more than 13 cards. Otherwise 13 cards is the max.

You need AMD cards to mine Ethash coins. The best current cards in hash/cost are Bios modded RX 570 4GB cards. A six card rig will average ~0.6 ETH a month currently. A $2000 rig would pay itself off in about three months, less if you dual mine or you hold the coins you mine until the best time to sell. The problem is with the recent spike in altcoin prices, GPU's have all but disappeared and finding multiple cards at a decent price will be a challenge.

Best chance is to sign-up for auto notify stock alerts on the retailer websites or nowinstock.net. Even retailers have marked up new stock 10-25% compared to what they were a month ago.

GPU shortages caused by a substantial increase in altcoin profitability has caused all GPU's to dissapear from the normal retail channels, leaving resellers to dictate the pricing on GPU's for immediate delivery.

Other than possibly having a better chance of coming with better memory, there is not much difference in hash rate between 4GB and 8GB cards of the same model. The main difference would be a better resale value in the future, though IMO it's not worth paying an extra $30 per card, especially on a mid-range card like Sapphire Pulse.
793  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: W10 problems - OS taking 55gb after fresh install on: January 05, 2018, 07:06:21 PM
I'm running Windows 10 Pro v1709 and it's taking 50GB> of the system drive and that is with 20GB virtrual memory and 4.5GB reserved for restore points. You can try running ccleaner to cleanup old temp and windows error reporting files. Also delete old restore points and old driver setup files. If you did an update of the existing installation instead of a clean install, your old Windows installation will be in a Windows.old folder on the system drive. You can delete that folder to save space as well.
794  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: AMD New Drivers Adrenalin - mining Perf same, Claymore temp/fan monitoring broke on: January 05, 2018, 10:28:10 AM
Thanks to Claymore, the latest AMD Adrenaline 17.12.2 drivers in compute mode are working with Claymore v10.3. You can set temperature, fan control and also set the overclock, powerlimit and voltages directly in the miner command line or config file. Works great with my ASRock H110 Pro BTC+ 13 card build.

If you want to use Afterburner with more than 3 GPU's, you need to use the AMD Aug. 23rd blockchain drivers on Windows 10 v1703 and you are limited to a max of 8 AMD cards.

795  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: RX 580 users on: January 05, 2018, 01:33:22 AM
I have never used Nicehash. It's an easy way to get started with mining on your home PC, but for that convinience they take a cut of your profits and you only have the option to cash out BTC. I find it a better strategy to mine coins that are undervalued and HODL for the right time to sell.
796  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: RX 580 users on: January 05, 2018, 01:03:57 AM
Profit calculators are just showing profitability based on what you would receive if you cashed out the coins you mined at that moment. They can't predict what the profitablity will be the next day or even the next hour. That's why mining the current most profitable coin that hour is pointless. By the time you accumulate enough coins to cash out, the profitability will have changed. Conversely, what the profit calculator showed as a $6-$7 per day profit, will more often than not be a $4-$5 profit by the time you cash out on the pool and if you were to sell right away. A much better indicator is the average profitability over 3 days and 7 days. By mining and HODLing coins, you can determine the best time to sell. So what the calulator was showing as a $2-3 profit per day, becomes $5-$7+ per day if you wait for the right time to sell.
797  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Problems updating Windows 10 on 8 GPU Nvidia rig on: January 05, 2018, 12:53:04 AM
I just use the Microsoft media creation tool to create a bootable flash drive with the latest build and always nuke the system drive to do a clean install. The media creation tool automatically creats a bootable flash drive with the latest Windows 10 build and updates.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/15088/windows-create-installation-media

https://www.techspot.com/downloads/6734-windows-10-installation-tool.html

Then I unplug all the x1 riser connectors except for the one in the primary x16 slot. The only change I make in the Bios is to make sure to boot off of the UEFI installation partion on the flash drive. After Windows installs I run DDU in safe mode to remove the existing driver and set Windows to not automatically install drivers. Then I shutdown, connect all the risers back in the PCI-E slots and install the latest driver. I also set a group policy to disable driver updates from Windows Updates.

In the Windows 10 Pro Group Policy Editor you can keep Windows Update from updating the the drivers.

gpedit ==> Computer Configuration ==> Administrative Templates ==> Windows Components ==> Windows Update and set 'Do not include drivers with Windows Update' to enabled.

798  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Windows 10 1709, AMD Drivers, and Afterburner on: January 05, 2018, 12:10:08 AM
The Windows 10 v1709 Fall Creators Update a major Windows update, especially since it added the capability to run 13+ GPU's of the same type, instead of just 8. The AMD blockchain driver came out before the v1709 Fall Creators Update and was not designed or tested to be compatible with that build. In fact I remember at the time AMD had to release new Crimson Relive drivers that were compatible with the Fall Creators Update and the new compute mode instead of the blockchain driver for compute workloads.

https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/radeon-software-crimson-relive-fall-creators-update-beta-driver-download.html

In any case, since it wasen't designed to run with those drivers, you don't gain anything from running the blockchain driver with v1709 and more than likely, it will cause issues. You are better off with v1703 if you want to run the AMD blockchain drivers. When I tried running the blockchain drivers with v1709 it created all sorts of UI and taskbar lockups.

Here are my fan control, overclock and undervolt settings for my 13 card mixed RX 580 13 card rig dual mining. You have to find out the settings for each of your cards.

Code:
-tstop 76
-tt -34,-49,-42,-35,-23,-6,-19,-33,-44,-21,-20,-25,-10
-cclock 1200,1200,1200,1200,1200,1200,1200,1200,1200,1200,1200,1200,1200
-mclock 1950,1950,1950,2220,2050,2075,2050,2075,2220,2250,2050,2250,2075
-powlim 0,-15,-15,-15,-15,-15,-15,-5,-5,-15,-15,-15,-15
-cvddc 1050,950,950,850,850,850,850,900,900,850,850,850,900
-mvddc 1050,950,950,850,850,850,850,900,900,850,850,850,900

RX 570's can't handle as much of an undervolt compared to RX 580's.

Code:
-tstop 76
-tt -77,-69,-52,-19,-20,-64
-cclock 1200,1200,1200,1200,1200,1200
