781  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Idea] Coin to solve real-world challenges on: August 14, 2013, 04:18:29 PM
Thanks for the ideas/replies... I don't know the complete specifications of CureCoin, but coins like PrimeCoin or OribtCoin has specialized algorithms. As far as I know, CureCoin's topic is about proteins, cancer and so on, but it's algorithm is fixed. What I want is similar to BOINC - one currency/coin and multiple (completely different) challanges. The first day your miner runs for medical challenges, the second day for astronomical things, next day for mathematical problems and so on... It's nearly impossible to create a coin for each real-world challenge.
782  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [Idea] Coin to solve real-world challenges on: August 13, 2013, 08:34:34 PM
Hi folks,

at first, I've to say sorry for my bad english, but I hope you can understand my explanations Smiley. Yes... now, why I'm here? I'm here to discuss my idea for a new coin. Many people may think "oh man, not again...", but I think the world needs this new coin. Before we're talking about the specifications and the ideas behind the coin, let's talk about all other coins....
We've Bitcoins, we've Litecoins, we've YaCoins, DigitalCoins, Diamonds, Starcoin and many many other coins. New coins are started each week, mostly based on scrypt-algorithm and mined until they're unprofitable. Sure, that's fine, but why are we doing this? There might be different answers... some people mining because of speculations, other because they want save their money because of inflation and other because they simply need it (e.g. for transactions) or trust in cryptographic currencies. There're probably more answers, but that's enough yet...
But does anyone already thought about the real profit of mining? What I want to say is: We're simply mining for money and nothing else... when we go to work, we do this because of the money and because we're doing anything for the civilization - for other people. But mining any cryptographic coin has no profit for our real world. For instance... the intention behind mining a coin is to solve a puzzle (simply explained), but it doesn't help to solve any real-world problems. That's the idea behind the coin I'll explain in the next few sentences. Someone might already heared about BOINC. That's a software for distributed computing and helps to solve real-world problems like medical challenges (RNA-analysis to fight HIV/AIDS or fighting Malaria or similar diseases), climate sutdies, physics, mathematics, astronomical and other challenges.
What I want is a coin that is mined to solve such challenges. That's not only great for our civilization. It's also great for our mining hardware because many projects having different requirements, thus for one project we can use ASIC miners, for the next GPU and for others our CPU or probably FPGA-power. You don't need specialized hardware that is worthless after reaching the maximum coins...
Using BOINC you can already collect points by solving problems, but these coins are mainly used for hit lists or something else. Thus, you can't send them to another user, but the idea fits exactly the sense behind mining BTC, LTC or something else. You're getting coins for solving a small piece of the puzzle...

I'm currently thinking about (better: analyzing) such a coin and how it could be implemented, but I'm currently not directly working on an implementation. What I want with this topic is feedback... what do you think about a coin as described above? Anyone interested or having more ideas? The problem I'm currently facing is the limitation of such a coin...

Edit:\\ I don't know if this is the correct section for this topic. If not, please move this topic to the right place Smiley
783  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [PROPOSAL] Let there be DMD Takeover! on: August 12, 2013, 07:05:08 PM
..:: [ Sorry for bad english ] ::..

I'm supporting this coin because I like the idea of a rare coin, but I also sold all my coins because of the bad exchange rate... as I already mentioned in another thread, DMD should be worth 4 or 5 times more than BTC. But what's the exchange course? 0.00026000 on Coins-E (Cryptsy was down Sad)... absolutely undervalued compared to their max coins (4,38 Mio.). I've to pay $0,38 per kW/h, thus it's not worth mining DMD with the current exchange course...
The first thing I thought was.... yes finally a real alternative to BTC and a coin not as inflationary as BTC because there are only 4,38 coins. I saw BTC as the "real" money and DMD the real Diamond. It's sad to see such a great coin with such a bad acceptance and exchange course...
Did I alredy mentioned that I like Diamonds? Grin I'm a software developer, I'm using cryptographic functions in my applications and I already startet a (private) project called Astat [AST] (because it's "the rarest naturally occurring element" (Wiki) on earth). My specifications were as follows:

  • Algorithm: Scrypt-Jane
  • Coins total: 102 200 Coins total
  • Coins per day: 10
  • Coins per block: 0,25 (40 Blocks per day)
  • Mining will last for 28 years (fair for PPL which start mining after some years)
  • No bonus blocks
  • Of course, no premine

That's the intention behind my own coin (really really rare - only 0,0048% compared to BTC). I would like to help to restart or recreate DMD, but my problem is that I've no expiriences maintaining a coin and that's also the problem of my own coin. The problem of the most alt-coins is, that there no real community or team behind the coin... the coins are posted here on bitcointalk, probably has a homepage, created in one or two days, mined for 3 or 4 weeks (until they are unprofitable) without no long term support or team which is responsible for the coin or tries to increase their acceptance. Additionally I never read anything about DMD, JPC, STR or the most other alt-coins on BTCe, Bitsamp, Vircurex or some other, large and popular exchanges. Newcomers know BTC and probably LTC, but nothing about other coins... how should they know that there're more, other (rarer) coins? As Pmalek already mentioned, DMD needs a team, a forum, avatars like other coins, blog entries AND... a service accepting DMD-payments. Finally... DMD needs more press articles and services/shops!

Ah, danke... ich hatte mir die Mail, die ich von denen bekommen habe 3 mal durchgelesen, aber das Ganze irgendwie überlesen.
786  Local / Deutsch (German) / Re: Asic USB Miner - totaler Irrsinn? on: August 05, 2013, 08:07:57 PM
787  Local / Deutsch (German) / Re: Asic USB Miner - totaler Irrsinn? on: August 05, 2013, 07:15:08 PM

Buyers? Grin Sellers are more unrealistic because they sell DMDs for such a low price... I think the price strikes back in a couple of days... HYC was at .00001xyz when cryptsy added it and now... it is worth .00006xyz, sometimes .00017xyz... same case for EZC, AMC, NRB, BOT/CAP, FST and so on...

I wouldn't be happy with 0.019... I hope to see 0.1 or more... the time will tell us the real value of DMD. I think when cryptsy adds DMD, the value increases significantly...
I guess it will trade higher once it is in cryptsy... there aren't enough buyers in coins-e.com.

But still enough that people buying cheap DMDs Grin
Anyone know if cryptsy confirmed adding DMD?
792  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Driver problem HD4650 and HD6770 on: July 25, 2013, 08:40:37 PM
Yesssssss... Catalyst still says disabled, but I can mine sha256/BTC and scrypt/LTC & Co...
I updated my cgminer-version (3.1.0 always crashed) and installed the beta version of the legacy catalyst 13.4. I'm a bit confused about my 6770 which also runs fine with this legacy beta version, but ok... it works Smiley
793  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Driver problem HD4650 and HD6770 on: July 25, 2013, 03:58:54 PM
Alright, thanks - I got both cards installed... both cards show as active cards in the hardware manager and working properly, but catalyst shows the 6770 as a disabled adapter...

795  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Driver problem HD4650 and HD6770 on: July 25, 2013, 02:51:24 PM
Yes... 13.1. Catalyst shows me the following:

Driver Packaging Version: 8.97.100.7-121116a-151639C-ATI
Catalyst Version: 13.1
Provider: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
2D Driver Version: 8.01.01.1248
2D Driver File Path: {...}
Direct3D: 7.14.10.0911
OpenGL Version: 6.14.10.11672
Catalyst Control Center Version: 2012.1116.1515.27190

I installed 13-1-legacy_vista_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc.exe - my 4650 is the passive one from HIS. As I already mentioned, I only want use my 6770 to mine some coins, not the 4650, hence a passive one should be enough to watch some vids Smiley

Edit: Primarily alt-coins, but I'm also mining bitcoins...
796  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Driver problem HD4650 and HD6770 on: July 25, 2013, 02:34:33 PM
Hi guys,

I've a HD4650 and HD6770... sure, not the best mining hardware, but better than nothing. My problem is the driver installation. I've some other rigs with 5xxx and 7xxx cards. There's no problem at all because all cards requires the same driver. But... the HD4650 requires the legacy 13.1 driver which seems to be incompatible with the HD6770 driver. Someone suggested to install the HD4650 driver and install the other driver using automatic, online search of windows update/hardware manager, but this failed because it is unable to find any driver. By installing the HD6770 driver after the HD4650 uninstalls the first (HD4650) driver. What I want to do is, to mine coins using HD6770 while working with the HD4650... any idea how to do this/to install/use both drivers on the same system?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Real good coin! Think it may be worth at least as Bitgem?

I think (hope Grin) more... but we'll see the real value of DMD when cryptsy, coins-e or another exchange added DMD...

No... under maintenance...
799  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Cryptsy down again? on: July 23, 2013, 04:07:13 PM
sounds like it could be a gateway error since no one in Europe is having any luck?

I'm getting the same error, but I don't think that this is a gateway error because I'm also getting the error when I try to log into from a VPN-server located in the states...
800  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [WTB] Diamond[DMD] on: July 22, 2013, 08:25:44 PM
No chance... note that 200 DMD per day requires about 8000 kh/s - with that rate you need 5 days to mine 1000 DMD... a simple calculation:

- 8000 kh/s means 10 x 7970 with 250W each
- 250W * 10 = 2500 = $12.60 per day (0.21 $/kWh)
- DMDs Value: 5*12.60 = $63
- BTCs Value: 0.23 * $85 = $19.55
- Conclusion DMDs Value > BTCs Value ==> no one sells his DMDs for this price Grin

$.21/kwh? Christ, where do you live? I pay $.09/kwh.

probably europe, I have $.2

Yep... central europe (Germany) - the average price for 4000 kw in 2012 was .2457€ (or $.32.287437) per kwh... in 2013 we've .2760€/kwh for 4000 kw
Conclusion: $.21 = cheap, $.09 = dream Grin (please send me some batteries Cheesy)
