7821  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Do you recommend passpharse for Trezor One? on: April 18, 2021, 09:12:44 AM
I just set up my Trezor One and I see option to set additional protection with passpharse.
However I heard that while it may make things safer,it can also be devastating if I forget it,or lost it.
Some say it's not recommend to use it,other say it's great extra layer of protection.
I would like to know your opinion.

I would use Trezor and other hardware wallets only with passphrase option because it is not stored anywhere on device and it is much harder for anyone to steal your funds if you lose your wallet device.
It is very important to make good strong passphrase made from several words, write it correctly and back it up in separate location from your seed words.
You can have separate account in your Trezor wallet without passphrase as decoy for holding smaller amount of coins.

Also,I set up my Trezor and download Trezor Suite app for desktop.
I wrote seed words as well as PIN.
I would like to know is that all and am I now completely protected from any kind of threat like hacking or pishing attacks?

You are never 100% protected and phishing attacks are mostly done by human mistakes, not checking if website is correct or clicking link received in email.
Watch what you install on your computer and scan it for malware, viruses and keyloggers before you use this computer for any crypto wallets.
I would suggest that you download Trezor Suite from official website or github page and use that instead of their web version.

Anyone can be victim of phishing so you should pass some free Phishing Quizzes and learn more how to protect yourself.
7822  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Taproot Speedy Trial Code - - Merged Into Bitcoin Core on: April 18, 2021, 08:23:35 AM
No that is entirely untrue.  I think I've spent a total of an hour on the subject in the last three months not including time wasted reading the endless pointless shed-painting debates. And much of that hour just testing the activation setup and the rest was mostly correcting a bit of misinfo on reddit.

Let me rephrase it and be more accurate.
You started the main topic in bitcointalk about Taproot proposal in May 2019 and you posted 26 times in that topic.
I can't calculate exact time you spent writing this but I can appreciate it.
7823  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: blockchain.com and 16 word phrases on: April 17, 2021, 04:49:31 PM
what is a private key?   the memonic word, .... the password .... or the 16 pgrases word?

Private key can be found in Wallets & Addresses section of Blockchain account, but you could use that only in case you exported it before you lost your password and access to your account.
You should see your public address, balance and private key.

7824  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: blockchain.com and 16 word phrases on: April 17, 2021, 03:55:25 PM
I clicked on need help option
but it is asked me to enter a 12 word phrases, while I have instead 16 word phrases

How to resolve?

thanks for any help

I think that old Blockchain.info website had different system, they used various number of words and I don't think they even used BIP39 word list so it's not compatible with that.
It's to complicated for my taste and I would suggest switching from their web wallet to other wallets like Electrum, and if you know private key you can even import from Blockchain wallet.

Losing your password is never a good thing but you can try contacting their support or write them on their Twitter support or other social media accounts, and maybe they can help with recovering your account.

7825  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger omitting one character from a Doge address on: April 17, 2021, 03:16:37 PM
I don't think it's caused by an exploit, and I expect a missing character to result in an invalid address. My hope is that it's just a display bug on the Ledger, my fear is it's creating an incorrect (and invalid) transaction.

I heard about similar problem with Bitcoin addresses on ledger that was cause by some malicious program that was changing only last four characters on bitcoin address to steal funds, but right now I can't find the source of this information.

Ledger reddit page is full of posts with people complaining and asking where are their coins, but have you seen this doge page on ledger wallet website?

Quote
We are currently experiencing some difficulties with DOGE transactions in Ledger Live. As far as we know, there isn't a third-party compatible wallet that you could use in the meantime. Besides, when you make DOGE transactions, make sure to not mistake your Dogecoin (DOGE) address for your DigiByte (DGB) address. DOGE addresses start with a capital D whereas DGB addresses start with a capital S.

7826  Other / Meta / Re: Understanding Service Section rule. on: April 17, 2021, 01:24:20 PM
I don't remember seeing any campaign in Services section that paid only partially in Bitcoin and mostly in other tokens.

Possible solution you may have is to separate this campaign in two parts, one can be in Services and paying only in Bitcoin, and second part can pay rewards only in tokens and be in altcoin section.
7827  Economy / Exchanges / Re: What's next after Coinbase IPO? on: April 17, 2021, 12:57:37 PM
After the successful IPO of Coinbase, do you think crypto exchanges like Binance, Kraken, Houbi or wallets like Trustwallet, Ledger, Electrum or Snapbots will do the same? If that's a real trend, I'll be ready for the next money hunt!

Kraken and Jesse Powell already announced they will probably do the same after they see how market reacts with Coinbase guinea pig, and they will probably move from US to find better regulations.
There are rumors that CZ and Binance exchange will do something similar like Coinbase and Kraken, and other crypto companies may follow their examples.
I would not waste any time doing this for any hardware wallet companies because some of them are to busy with lawsuits from customers.
7828  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How is a privacy wallet any different from a regular one? on: April 17, 2021, 08:47:37 AM
Exodus for example, I dont think they collect your info. Let's say a government wanted to give a warrant for them to look into some random dudes wallet. Would they hand the info over or something or what?

Exodus wallet is closed source so we don't really know what they collect from users but one thing is sure that they collect IP addresses you used, used coin address and transactions.
Wasabi is open source software, you can confirm their code on github and they have TOR enabled so nobody knows IP addresses you used and you can even mix your coins to improve your privacy.

What's the best privacy wallet that has the most amounts of token coins n stuff?

Best thing you can use for this purpose is Trezor Suite with their Trezor hardware wallet.
Trezor Suite is open source software, they have the option to enable TOR and they are working on mixing coins similar like in Wasabi, plus you can use Bitcoin and other coins.
Turn off Usage Data collection in settings if you don't want Trezor to know it:

7829  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: unconfirmed BTC transaction... on: April 17, 2021, 08:34:26 AM
I made the transaction from Bitstamp to Binance... i dont know what the fee they charge to be honest.. i think bitstamp take care of that..

Both of these are not really your wallets but your exchange accounts, they have full control over them and they can decide when to send them and what fees to use.
Use exchange only for trading, not for holding your coins, and download something like Electrum if you want to have control over your funds.
7830  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: BitcoinSeedSplitter on: April 16, 2021, 01:04:12 PM
Abandoned project since 2017 (Ian moved to Slip39 which is not a seed backup option)

His Slip39 mnemonic shares tool is only at experimental prototype stages and I don't see any new commits posted since December 2019, and his latest github commits are unrelated with this.
He is still posting commits for his Bip39 tool and latest one was at the end of February, so I would not call it abandoned project.
7831  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: User bitcoin nodes are useless to the network on: April 16, 2021, 10:38:04 AM
I just read this article and I would like to know more opinions about it. How accurate is it. Is it true that a node that is not actually processing transactions, is of no help for the network? Is it true that only economic nodes are important? Can a situation explained in this article happen and our nodes (not economical) can't do nothing about?

Looking at luke.dashjr chart we currently have around 86,000 nodes with 6,900 listening Bitcoin nodes and that data from bitnodes.io and this article is not really accurate.
Running full node is not expensive and it's not very complicated but you need to have some motivation to run it, maybe to improve your privacy or something else.
Article is outdated and there are many simple and easy implementations for running full node like myNode, Samourai Dojo or Umbrel.
This are some minimum Requirements for running your own full Bitcoin node:

- Desktop or Laptop computer or Raspberry Pi with minimum 2GB RAM (starting from $35)

 - Hard Drive (starting from $13 per TB)

 - Internet connection with good upload speed and unlimited traffic (starting from $5 per Month)
7832  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: how Bitcoin will deal with lost tokens? on: April 16, 2021, 10:22:42 AM
What happens to all the coins in lost wallets in the Bitcoin system? If there are only a finite number of coins, won't they become increasingly scarce as people lose them over time?

This coins are lost and nothing will happen with them.
Bitcoin total supply is fixed at 21 million coins, circulating supply is around 18,684,000 but some research with FreeFloat supply is showing that 4 million bitcoins may be gone forever, and this can only be good for overall value and Bitcoin price.
Note that we can't know exact number of lost coins and some of them may be recovered and found in future, but people will probably lose more coins in future and bitcoin will be more scarce.

7833  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Commodore 64 Bitcoin miner on: April 16, 2021, 09:58:29 AM
I wished for so many years a C64... the games were much prettier than on my (clone of) ZX Spectrum.
But Bitcoin miner on C64,... while it can be educational material for a very limited number of people, I unfortunately see it as such a waste of time...; I guess that the developer has his fun though.

If you look at his github profile you will see that this guy is just a big commodore geek, and only people who played with C64 can understand him maybe, it's something like first love for BTC64 Cheesy

I do however wonder what would happen if this C64 miner was released in the time of Satoshi, back in 2009 and 2010 and without asic miners.

7834  Economy / Economics / Re: Turkish Central Bank Forbids use of cryptocurrencies as a mean of Exchange. on: April 16, 2021, 09:45:57 AM
Seriously, what does the Turkish government want to achieve?

I think that 1 Bitcoin is currently worth around 486,920 TRY, and 1 TRY is worth $0.12.
Turkey annual inflation was above 16% in March, meaning that situation with Turkish Lira is not looking good and inflation will hit them even harder so they are just afraid of losing control, and they banned Bitcoin and crypto as payment option but it affected global crypto market in a bad way for sure.
I don't think many people are actually using Bitcoin for payment in Turkey and in other parts of the world (because of higher fees) but some other altcoins (read BCH) may be affected much more with this.
We are also starting to hear some news about weapons preparing for new war around Turkey, and situation with inflation is similar and even worse in other countries around the world, so we may see some new regulations and bans soon.
7835  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Where can I stake bitcoin? on: April 16, 2021, 09:20:22 AM
There are few types staking platform such as cold/private wallets, staking-as-a-service, DeFi staking.

But the there's no well known platform to stake bitcoin, do you guys know where I can stake bitcoin?

So far, I found Binance and SnapBots as the best. If you ever staked on both of the platform, kindly gave your reviews below!?

You can't really stake or earn interest with your Bitcoin and hold your keys in the same time, and exchanges like Binance are real owners of all Bitcoins you send them.
I am not really sure how exactly they are doing their so called staking but you must lock your coins for specific amount of time, and they can be hacked at any time (like it happened before) or they can freeze your account for whatever reason.

There is also Crypto.com and one other platform for earning interest for bitcoin is Celsius but they are also centralized, and I just heard they got hacked and had data breach with leaking customer information and their users are receiving scam messages with SMS and email.
I would never trust any service like that for earning Bitcoin however safe they claim it is, and safest best way is to just hold Bitcoin in your own wallet, but if you are willing to take the risk with any centralized services to earn interest than be prepared to suffer the consequences.
7836  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Taproot Speedy Trial Code - - Merged Into Bitcoin Core on: April 16, 2021, 08:41:47 AM
Bitcoin core developer Gregory Maxwell, who has done extensive work on Taproot alongside Peter Wuille, merged the “pull request” for Speedy Trial around 16:00 UTC on April 15.

It was not him who merged it for sure, and it's easy to see this github that it was two Bitcoin Core devs Fanquake and Marco Falke by ajtownes and achow101, but Greg Maxwell is very active in overall Taproot activation subject.
Let's see what happens after 3 months but I don't see that miners are against this as 90% of total hashrate is supporting it, and I expect Taproot activation to finally be completed after this trial.
Average users who already use bech32 addresses will not even notice any change but under the hood there will be very important changes and improvements for multisig and privacy.
7837  Economy / Services / Re: will rent my apartment in Croatia for currency on: April 16, 2021, 07:49:42 AM
We have Trgovina section in Croatian local board so you can also post your offer there.
Adding one more option for contact like Telegram or email address would also be good suggestion for you.
7838  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Is this scheme for multisig audit of Trezor + Coldcard ok? on: April 15, 2021, 09:01:47 PM
To eliminate the risk of the trezor generating a private key I don't own, I'm gonna put its key on the raspberry pi zero and see that it generates the same master pubkey and shown in trezor. This proves I own this key, but it might be a kew that someone already owns. No problem, that's why I'm doing multisig.

Why don't you just generate private key or BIP39 seed words offline and then import them in your hardware wallet if you want?
Entropy generation in Trezor is not so great, and it is mixing external entropy from computer with internal entropy from built-in hardware random number generator.
Other hardware wallets like ColdCard are using secure elements for seed generation but I would still use old methods with offline BIP39 if done correctly.

I'll then receive some Bitcoin on one address, erase both wallets, restore them with the private keys, and then try to spend this Bitcoin, just to make sure I really owned the coins.

You don't need to first receive coins on your address, but you should first delete and restore your wallets before sending or receiving any coins.
That way you will be sure you wrote everything correctly and made good backup.

Note that Multisig for most hardware wallets are not totally secure and for Trezor wallet you can't automatically verify that the co-signers are safe, and it has to be done manually for every transaction.
Jameson Lopp did a test of hardware wallets with multisig few months ago and it interesting to read and notice many flaws:

7839  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Debunking the "Bitcoin is an environmental disaster" argument. on: April 15, 2021, 02:39:26 PM
We already pointed the fact that Bitcoin is one of the few industries where the total consumption is accounted and scrutinised.
What about the Christmas Light  industry?

Now they say Bitcoin is bad, sun is bad and animals like cows are also bad because they create lot of pollution, they should be killed, and we need to eat only synthetic meat (as per dr. Bill Gates and other 'experts' like him).
How about that masks we are all forced to put on are faces every day even if we all know they don't protect us from anything more than polluted air in best case scenarios.
Cheap masks should be used only one time and then thrown away, creating millions and billions more junk that is really polluting our environment but nobody is talking about that.
I learned something new in last two years, villains from comic books actually exist in the real world.

Here is my transaction link in your site :
TX LINK
What do you think?

Mempool.space is not my website, but my browser extension is using their API (plus two more alternatives), and I already told you what I think in my previous post.
Your transaction will probably be confirmed this weekend in Saturday or Sunday, so just chill.
