7881  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Online Wallet Anyone? on: June 18, 2014, 06:28:43 AM
Blockchain.info is pretty good if you take advantage of every security feature available.

Do not trust an online wallet to hold your coins safely and securely
But if you must use one to store coins I would also recommend using Blockchain.info and emptying it out after a certain balance is reached
7882  Economy / Speculation / Re: Data backing continued exponential price increases for Bitcoin on: June 18, 2014, 06:22:38 AM
Thanks for the chart I was wondering what the chart looks like normalized for Price Volatility
I assume that as the market price moves upward or downward that the price affects the users and unique transactions that occur in the network
That said more data is always a good thing
7883  Other / Off-topic / Re: spreading bitcoin awareness on: June 18, 2014, 06:19:58 AM
Nice although this might work in Bitcoin discussion
I did see a Bitcoin sticker put on top of a newspaper box so putting it beside the ATM is an even better placement
Props to you
7884  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can Litecoin hold the #2 spot? Doubtful..and here are the coins who will benefit on: June 18, 2014, 06:12:46 AM
The next 'bubble' will be do-or-die for Litecoin.

Network effect/name recognition may help it keep its number two spot, but it's far from certain.

What is interesting is that LTC/BTC hit a huge low right before it spiked massively to 0.05199. This could suggest the current downtrend may not be something to be overly worried about.

As for which coin could take the number two spot... a privacy oriented coin seems most likely to me, with DRK currently being the favourite.

Similar sentiment however I do think that consideration needs to be given to the fact that it is a survivor of the ancient coin days
Survived Fenedrix and that other coin that came after it to get to Litecoin
As a scripting algo it still retains its value and its age means it probably will still lurk in one form or another depending on how many people trade and use it after BTC.

That said its possible we will not be looking at coins at all in a few years but at working systems of decentralized exchange (Ethereum lol if it can do all that or Mastercoin the first branch version)

Honestly its still to early to tell what will happen to early crytos

Ok I was going to leave this topic alone but I just started laughing when I saw the Keiser card
This is  a neat idea for some users on the forums to combat with XD

On the other hand if you buy Datatank shares the price may go up a lot and its cheaper to get IPO shares than it is to buy later

Please explain to me, how is appreciation of cloud mining shares possible in term of BTC, thank you

There were two types of Shares
Series A and Series B
Only one of the two series involves cloudmining I believe I'll need to recheck on that (not sure capacity isn't mining so only series A does it? although the space is still being used I presume either way)
http://www.datatank-mining.com/files/DataTank_Mining_Ops_Prospectus.pdf

"A"

Unit Holders purchase capacity + mining devices.
100% of the income generated is paid out to unit holders. Funds raised via "A"
units are used to build DataTank mining systems and mining hardware, "A" units are therefore more expensive than "B" units below.

"B"

Unit Holders purchase capacity only (no mining hardware). This capacity is made available on the market and used by third party miners (mining organizations, end - users) for appropriate market prices, bidding models, or special franchising agreements with ASIC manufacturers (ie. 80/20 franchising, 20% of mining income goes to holder of "B" units), or used by unit holders for self-mining.

100% of the income generated is paid out to unit holders.

Think its sort of like a mining bond in that the market speculates on it if I interpreted it correctly if we are allowed to analyze the datatank IPO in the AM thread? If so I'll continue we can also try to guess how many chip sales this will generate for AM as well Smiley

Voluntary Reinvestment
As 100% of income is paid to unit holders, there is no fixed reinvestment percentage or schedule.
However, DataTank Mining recommends unit holders to reserve 20% of earnings for reinvestment to replace outdated /inefficient mining hardware
and fund additional capacity.

This way, investors are in control over reinvestments individually and decide autonomously if and when reinvestments are being made.
Moreover, DataTank Mining intends to establish a reinvestment program at favorable market rates for existing unit holders.

I guess Bitcoin is made depending on how shareholders interpret the market and when to go all in or do nothing in terms of reinvesting in the company.
The shares appreciate if reinvested growth is greater than the increase in difficulty as they are able to generate more Bitcoins with the hashrate
With a lag time of a few months from decision to working hash in the network allowing the market to freely interpret the price, based on their estimated hash and estimated difficulty increases.

Just a rough idea though feel free to correct me may be totally off.

A possible scenario would be
Asicminer Dividends for 2 months --> Rockminer Dividends for 2 months --> Datatank Dividends for 2 months

Now that sounds like a high risk - high reward scenario.

I may play with that on paper and see how it turns out.

Cool tell me how it goes Smiley

7888  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: June 18, 2014, 05:18:19 AM
I predict low share prices for AM in the near future, maybe record lows... not for bad news but because I imagine many AM investors will want to get into DataTank... and many of us already used all our available funds to purchase cheep AM shares.

There seems to be an appeal with DataTank, as they're working closely with AM. However, are current shareholders willing to let go of their shares for something that is farther down the line?

Dividend Payments
Profits will be paid weekly in form of dividends. First payments are expected when the initial hardware is deployed, 3-6 months after successful fund raising.

Perhaps I'm reading it wrong but it seems like quite the trade off with 3-6 months later, with the assumption that AM will start dividends sooner than that. There's lots to consider.

There are two ways to play this

One bet on the chip sales and gamble on the payments then do a switch
Or jump into the Datatank early and assume the price will rise as the dividends approach

Both strategies have a chance of burning so some people may just play it safe and do a 50 50 approach or a ratio more favorable to them.

Or just hodl the coins ... the best strategy so far

High risk investments can lead to great rewards... just ask all the IPO investors in this thread =]. I myself turned 10btc into a heck of a lot more then 10btc by NOT holding. People who are holding 100% probably don't even bother reading the security threads.

Fair point risk brings reward

My point was that if you assume AM dividends are incoming you could wait and collect those first but you take some risk that Datatanks are produced earlier than schedule and they start mining before their estimate or that they get an aggressive dividend schedule a month or two from today.

On the other hand if you buy Datatank shares the price may go up a lot and its cheaper to get IPO shares than it is to buy later, that said considering Rockxie shares and rockminer also listing on Havelock I am not sure how a third factor will equate into the price calculations.

A possible scenario would be
Asicminer Dividends for 2 months --> Rockminer Dividends for 2 months --> Datatank Dividends for 2 months

With buy ins after the first dividends start to wean down and speculators move onto the next company assuming their distributions will start afterwards.

Same issue happened for me as well
The site was down for a while
I checked with is it down and the network did confirm a down status

Checking the time log it was around 30 minutes was there an unexpected maintenance (didn't see a schedule maintenance warning)
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=unread;start=120

Scratch that solved my question
30 minute warning that explains why Smiley

Great news. Quadriga CX has the perfect Bitcoin ATM service. The reasons are:

1. The fees is just around 3%, which is much lower than that of the other ATMs.
2. Their ATMs are affordable, and comes at $999 apiece.
3. No ID proof is required for Bitcoin purchases.

How do they get their ATMs to be so cheap?

That is a good question
Nice to see a bunch of the Lamassu units sprayed around all of Vancouver though

7892  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin integration on facebook. on: June 18, 2014, 04:18:09 AM
I would personally never trust my coins with Facebook.

Well it does seem a bit risky, that said if they used cold storage and proper security measures a reputable company would be fine
Although the NSA knowing what your balance is or asking it is a turnoff for certain.
Edit: Your right I would not trust my coins with them given their privacy policies

Privacy would be the biggest concern.

Another big concern is that facebook accounts get hacked all the time. I can't tell you how often I get spam from people on my friends list that is clearly some kind of spam bot, their account is later recovered and I see a status apologizing.

I know what you mean I have gotten a few spam mails from the contact list selling Product X or Product Y
That said I can't see them messing cold storage if their is no balance on the account so to me it is a measure of how they do the transactions
If its just log into FB then spend its a weak system
If it log into FB get email notification to verify transaction and a 24 hour rule before you can change the address you want to send bitcoins to (As a settings option)

Then it could be fairly secure, that said if they know all your transactions and history then the points above are moot lol.
You may have security but not privacy lol.

Unless it was darkcoin or something with a coinjoined client that they can merge transactions into lol.
7893  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Events that changed the world... on: June 18, 2014, 04:04:09 AM
January 2, 2012, Occupy Nigeria protest began in Nigeria in response to the fuel subsidy removal by the Federal Government of President Goodluck Jonathan. Protests took place across the country, including the Nigerian Embassy in London, New York and Italy.

That is a neat one I wonder if this combined with the problems Boko Haram brought to the country
One can hope for change but I hope that change does happen and captivate the people to do something
Then it will be history and an event that does change the world.

I think it will go down around june 23 for a few days. Until people see what happens with the doj silkroad bitcoin sale. Then I predict it will hit 700 by the end of July. Hopefully higher but I am a natural pessimist.

steve

The same as Steve I see the price going up for a day or two then dropping back down for the auction
Pending the results of the auction and who buys the coins the market could react anywhere from badly to aggressively on the outcome
Anyways still hoping for sub 1000 around 900 by the end of July but that is the optimist side Smiley

7895  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Dev Sells 50% of his Bitcoin due to 51% threat. on: June 18, 2014, 03:44:42 AM
There's a fair chance this has nothing to do with 51% and Peter Todd just felt like cashing out some coins and wanted a good sounding reason.

What the heck, why would he want a reason? Is there some sort of obligation for bitcoin core devs to keep their money in bitcoins? Do they have to publicly explain when they cash out? I don't think so, it's their money they are free to do how they like.

Just human nature.  People often feel the need to explain their actions.

Can't be just human nature. He knew he would be much criticized for this act and he still did it, though he could do it without anyone noticing. No, he truely started doubting Bitcoin, that's what it is. He had a plan set up in advance and he executed it, because he believes in the need for decentralization of Bitcoin more than many people who criticize him.

That's true it takes a set of bravery and willpower to execute a strategy even when people say your foolish for doing so.
The problems with centralized mining due to the development of ASIC's and the slowly decreasing amount of full nodes are issues that Bitcoin will need to face in future and find solutions to.

That said explaining your actions and rationale even if people don't agree is still a good thing to know.
7896  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-06-14] Global Finance magazine coverstory: Is Bitcoin Good for Business? on: June 18, 2014, 03:31:34 AM
I'll just quote Ghandi on this one
First they ignore you
Then they laugh at you
Then they fight you
Then you win

That is basically what this article is discussing and those businesses will not know what they are missing out on until it gets to big for them to ignore it anymore.
7897  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: GHash.IO is standing at 51% on: June 18, 2014, 03:14:18 AM
GHash.IO has dropped down to 33%,actually,the time of standing above 50% is very short.
no worry about the 51% attack.

No worry ....if u think Bitcoin is a bubble. But for us, who think Bitcoin is here for the long term to fight out the current monetary system, this is a weakness to be dealt with. DeepBit & GHash.IO are the 2 that have reached 51% till date, but no attack has taken place. DeepBit has gone to oblivion and probably one day GHash.IO will vanish too. But a new player will emerge and 51% will need to be addressed.

The biggest concern is that someone makes a service so efficient that everyone will flock to it
Gigahash was the closest by far by acting both as an exchange and a location for coins to be mined in addition offering different pool choices besides bitcoin and offering lower fees are a great combination.

That said it brings about the risk of an exchange and security crashing if everyone flocks to the network
A different approach such as Proof Of Stake acts as incentive to avoid a 50% attack but as Bitcoin is just proof of script we will always need to be concerned about a network hitting 51% concentration.

That and the decreasing number of full nodes as ASIC mining becomes centralized and the people who use full nodes to relay the block chain independently and decentralization of nodes starts to decrease.

These are concerns that I think Bitcoin has not addressed well and will need to find solutions to while we still have time to modify and adapt the system...

That or we will need to as a community one day accept a centralized mint in terms of hashrate and a few major nodes run by major mining companies that maintain the network due to the increasing size of the Blockchain and transactions.
7898  Other / Off-topic / Re: which dish you like to cook for yourself ? on: June 18, 2014, 03:09:28 AM
I figured I'd try something new last night on the BBQ.

You take boneless, skinless chicken breast filets and flatten them out a bit.  I chopped up some jalapeno, and mixed it in with some creme cheese.  Put a ball of the mixture in the middle of the chicken breast.  Wrapped them up and then wrapped them in bacon with some toothpicks to keep them together.

They can be a bit of a pain on the BBQ, but if you keep any eye on them, it's not all that bad.

Low heat is the key to cook the chicken without burning the bacon.  After some trial and error with a a few, I found that using the top warming wrack to crisp the bacon a bit worked good without over cooking the chicken.

I've seen some of those before with ham but those look delicious
Bacon and meat on the grill perhaps even put some cheese and grill it
That or chicken as you used

Thanks for the good idea a good way to make something in the summer while saving a bit of cash
Darn Meat prices won't get in the way when it comes to the grill Tongue

damn, i lost my bet again
why must 0-0 Brazil Vs Mexico, i guess Brazil can win and being first team going to next round Sad

Well right now in terms of points both Brazil and Mexico have 4 each since they tied and won their previous games
I guess that gives the two losing teams with 0 points a chance to catch up
Since its 3 for a win
1 each for a tie
0 For a Loss
At least I think that's how it works and 1 point is lost in a tie.
yups youre right next match between Cameroon Vs Croatia will be determinant of Brazil and Mexico if one of them win so we have 3 team with same chance to move to next round
so the final game will be more interesting, but i hope their get draw  Wink

Thanks for confirming well the Brazilians are in a good position for now they won't be sweating bullets today
But it would be a giant protest if they got knocked out in this round of the tourny in the World cup
Looking forward to the next set of games Smiley
