7901  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Should I get a loan? on: July 10, 2021, 11:59:46 PM
Currently I have $109,750 in Bitcoin and $60k in alts.

I'm thinking of getting a loan to buy more alts now and more as Bitcoin goes down. The loan would be from my family and interest free. If the value of my cryptos drop I'm willing and able to wait up to five years to break even.

However, I could use some opinions first. What do you guys think I should do?

Don't involve your family, you will regret it.  There are crypto sites that will let you use your Bitcoin as collateral for a fiat loan.  I would look into those as a potential solution.  Sure, you'll have to pay to do it, but it will be well worth the amount you spend.  As they say, there's a reason divorce is so expensive... Because it's worth it.  Don't risk ruining relationships with your family over money.  There will be plenty of opportunities to do that in the future without destroying your love for crypto in the process.
7902  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] My Casascius Collection on: July 10, 2021, 11:53:24 PM
I’m bad at math. What % premium are you using to calculate this?

I'm bad at semantics.  What is it you're asking?

If I assume correctly that you're asking about the BTC loaded amount vs sale price, I think the answer would be at least for the 1000 BTC gold coin, a ∞ (infinite) premium.
7903  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Need your suggestion on minting my collection on OpenSea.io on: July 10, 2021, 11:40:00 PM
Cool project and great that you are doing it publicly.  I will be following this to see how it progresses.  I've recently thought it might be cool to do something similar with 30,000 unique NFTs to give away to NastyFans.org members.  I think some sort of Pokemon type game being developed alongside it could make for a great user experience and maybe a way for users to play together and win/lose their NFTs.  Having such an old organization with so many seats would be a great method of free distribution for NFTs that I think would be somewhat more fair than selling them.

I look forward to watching how this progresses, and if you are interested in helping to build something along the lines of what I described above, I'd be open to having that discussion.

Answering your questions, I think the best platform to develop something like this on would be Namecoin.  It was the first alternative chain, the first chain capable of supporting NFTs, and the most secure chain behind Bitcoin.  It also carries a low value currently which leaves room for innovation like this to have a large effect on it's value and gives users another potential method for extreme price appreciation.  Not to mention internet censorship is becoming more and more of an issue that needs to be solved and adding use cases to help get this trojan horse in the builds of browsers and operating systems is a very respectable approach.

I would seriously consider giving your art away for free.  If you are trying to take the path of cryptopunks, I think that is the best way to do it.  Then you have skin in the game to continue developing the project, as opposed to getting paid up front and going on your merry way.

The name is probably the most important part if you're marketing them as images to sell and not planning on building any infrastructure.  Google crypto buzzwords and find something that makes for a cute combination with giraffes.

My main suggestion would be to build a use for them.  Cryptokitties were cool because you could breed them.  I would recommend as I did above that some sort of Pokemon type game be developed to give them purpose and give their users a way to have fun using them.

Great project.  Love that you made 10,000 unique images.  I think if you worked with a talented artist and gave them away they could be really popular.
7904  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] My Casascius Collection on: July 10, 2021, 11:25:22 PM
I am currently asking $1,178,429 for this collection according to Google.  I am posting this because I thought it might be fun to see how this amount fluctuates over time.  I suspect that in December this amount will either be staggeringly high, or terrifyingly low.  Any guesses?

Just for comparison's sake, when I made this post the asking price would have been $93,240.  Shockingly, many people say that Casascius coins have lost value during this period, but the extra million dollars doesn't feel like lost value to me.  I guess it all depends on your perspective and attachment to reality. 7906  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Reasons why they get it all wrong when trading. on: July 10, 2021, 11:04:05 PM
Trading is one of the many ways to participate in the cryptocurency industry and one of the most profitable ways of earning.

I would reword this...  Maybe to, Trading is the most useless way to attempt to get involved in the crypto industry.  It is also how a majority of users lose all their funds.  Finally, the users behind these pump and dump schemes will pretend that you have a chance to profit, when really they are just marketing to you in order to steal your funds.

I stand by the statement that the most effective trader is a dead trader, because they are then forced to hold (statistics back this up).  Sure, you might get lucky and benefit from the Greater Fool Theory every now and again, but make no mistake that is what you're doing.  Rather than trying your best to be at the front of the pack of fools so you can profit, why not actually do something meaningful and build a real position behind something you believe in it's long term prospects?  Too many people think 'getting involved' means buying a piece and spamming on social media.  I think if you aren't willing to use and build out the infrastructure of a crypto investment, you are just gambling and would have more fun betting on sporting events.

Trading isn't participating in crypto.  It's participating in gambling.
7907  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Wallet.dat question. on: July 10, 2021, 10:57:17 PM
Hi,thanks,I am just trying learn, the one wallet they were giving away free online was cracked for 1.05 BTC,I don't have the skill but I would like to learn what they are and look like.

Must have had a pretty weak password.  More likely though, it was done maliciously as an example that it can be done, so that whoever is behind it can point to that as though it was possible to achieve.  They do this so ignorant users will believe it's possible and spend money buying worthless .dat files.  What do you think is stopping people from using their private key to encrypt their wallet.dat file and not have a care in the world about anyone they sell it to cracking it?

TL;DR
Don't buy wallet.dat files.  You are throwing your money away to people who are actively scamming you.
7908  Other / Archival / Re: Question to Merit Sources on: July 10, 2021, 10:52:30 PM
For example, I have a completely empty ignore list, because I try to evaluate posts without paying attention to the nickname, namely the content of the post itself. If I ignore users that I do not like, then I will no longer be able to fully consider myself an objective merit source.

I couldn't imagine using this forum without my ignore list.  Then again, a lot of people are constantly vying for my attention.  It's why a lot of developers and creators have abandoned this place.  I think had more of them been heavy handed with the ignore button, maybe we would still be able to interact with certain individuals of the community that left to save their reputation before this place became a power hungry trollfest of extortionists and MITM schemers.  I hope at some point the focus stops being how can we get more scammers to click around the forum for statistical relevance, and goes back to how can we encourage development of Bitcoin projects.  The fact non-Bitcoin related threads being regularly necrobumped by their starters receive more merit than decade long projects that have created millions of dollars for participants is dumbfounding.
7909  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Dangers and Blessings of Maximalism on: July 09, 2021, 10:25:23 PM
The problem with being a maximalist is that you tend to be close minded to things like user experience that might be secondary to your maximalist attitude.  Other things come along that provide a better user experience, albeit maybe not "better" as far as technology or security, and those rapidly gain popularity.  There are plenty of historical examples of a lesser technology beating out it's superior just because of better business decisions.  Look at cassettes vs 8-tracks in the 70s, or VHS vs Beta in the 80s, or Apple vs PC in the 90s, or DVD vs Blu-Ray in the 00s, or BTC vs alts more recently...  The worse technology won each of these wars and snatched market share due to poor business decisions.  I imagine the developers behind 8-tracks, Beta, Apple (before they changed their business practices), Blu-ray, and Bitcoin all similarly thought they had the better product and will win in the long run.  Apple is the only example of a company that realized their mistake, replaced those responsible, and moved forward with a new attitude.  Bitcoin maximalism will keep BTC from taking this page from Apple's book, and I'm sure over the long term we will continue to see BTC lose market share (dominance) as a result.  I am not smart enough to have all the answers, but I'm observant enough to see the path we've been headed down for the last 5 years and how it is no different than 8-track and beta creators thinking they need only be the best to succeed.

"Listen to all, follow none" is a great mantra to live by and necessary in my opinion for an optimal society, but maximalism seems to encourage, "listen to none, walk together."  I think that's a mistake that is fueled by ego and easily obtained wealth and we will pay the cost someday.  I don't know if it will be in 8 months or 5 years, but I'm fairly certain it's coming quickly.
7910  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Life Expectancy = 73 | Median Covid Death Age = 80 on: July 09, 2021, 09:59:04 PM
I have always thought, and still think, that the restrictions should have been taken with the most at-risk people, that is, the elderly and those with medical risk factors. In addition to other measures such as wearing masks or avoiding crowds. But not to paralyze half the world as has been done. Covid is not the black plague.

There is an easy explanation for this.  Those in power are (sadly) mostly old white men.  So you have to think when global events like this occur, actions being taken will be guided from the point of view of an old white man.  If you're an old white man, you don't want these pesky kids who aren't at risk going around spreading disease and making you fearful of living your life.  As a response, you restrict them and force them to take unwanted vaccinations, wear masks, etc.  If this disease only effected the young, you can bet your ass old people wouldn't be forced to wear masks...  That's just how life is.  Sure, it's bullshit and needs to change.  I once thought Bitcoin had the power to help facilitate this sort of change, but now all anyone cares about is getting Wall Street funds to scoop up BTC so that the current wealthy class can make money off managing these crypto funds while everybody else is once again a puppet to funnel money to the rich so they can maintain their power.  It's disappointing, but for a while there it felt like real change was possible.  That gives me hope that another genius breakthrough can build on satoshi's original vision and remove gatekeepers from this financial prison we have all been relegated to (not a fraudulent power grab like SV, I mean real innovation).
7911  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What does it take for a game to "hook" people on: July 09, 2021, 09:48:47 PM
You can see games with very basic graphics and design, simple in the options for the player and not that engaging yet they do "hook" people in them.
What do these games have to have for you?

What it boils down to is fun.  If a service is providing entertainment then users will pay for it.  Too many services focus on having the most features or advanced graphics and fall flat because of the lack of attention to the user experience.  I know developers that are capable of creating great things, but they focus entirely on things that end users probably don't notice and definitely don't care about.  I don't care if a game is in black in white and in 8-bit...  If it's fun and I enjoy using it, it will be worth paying for.  On the other hand, a game could have the best graphics I've ever seen in my life, but if it doesn't leave me with a fun experience I won't pay for it.
7912  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: July 09, 2021, 07:39:14 PM
With two days of rest and getting to play on their home floor, this is the best chance Giannis and the Bucks have to win a game against Phoenix. I expect Giannis is going to be getting round the clock treatment for the next 48 hours and will come out looking a little healthier, although probably still short on stamina. I think the Bucks would be wise to play him in short spurts to keep his energy up, but I’m guessing they’ll play him until he’s ready to pass out. Still, game 3 is a must win situation for them. If they lose, you might as well give the Suns their rings.
7913  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is this a good plan on: July 09, 2021, 10:45:37 AM
Sounds like you’re describing dollar cost averaging which is a good investment strategy. Might I also suggest considering putting in X amount of dollars over a certain time frame. That way if your low price targets aren’t hit you are still purchasing some so you don’t miss out on price increases. I think strategies like this take the emotional element out of investing which is usually new traders’ downfall.
7914  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2021 NBA Season on: July 09, 2021, 08:26:54 AM
I don’t think anyone really expected Phoenix to go ‘Suns in four’ against Giannis and company. That’s what it is looking like we may see though. Giannis is clearly not at 100%. It’s too bad that he had to suffer an injury right before his chance to become one of only three players to get an MVP, DPOY & FMVP. The other two… Hakeem and Michael Jordan.
7915  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2021 NBA Season on: July 09, 2021, 02:47:56 AM
What happened in the second quarter? I watch the full first quarter and then went out for a quick break, Bucks leading. But when I got back Phoenix on a 17 swing, now leading 48-41, with that CP3 jump shot.

I doubt that Bucks can come back. As many has seen, Phoenix Suns is really good at protecting their lead going into the second half. And Giannis seems to be running out of gas and breathing hard.

Ya, the Suns are looking great after a slow start. Giannis looks like he is trying his best but just doesn’t have enough in the tank to keep it going. The Suns are currently up 10 as we head towards the 4th quarter and the momentum is still on their side. You can see Giannis is still hurting from that knee injury, and I think if they lose this one they might be mentally shot. A loss on their home floor in game 3 and Suns in 4 is all but assured.

Giannis is gonna need some help to even this series…

A couple of my favorites include VlogCreations and Harry Mack. I’ve started watching them both weekly for entertainment. The guys at VlogCreations seem like they’re always having a blast and it would be a lot of fun hanging out with them for a day. Harry Mack is a talent musician who likes to spread joy to people using his talents. Both are sure to make you smile and help brighten your day.
7917  Other / Off-topic / Re: Can you eat friendly animals on: July 08, 2021, 06:15:40 PM
If you rear some goats(for example) for food and the goats end up loving you lots and you love the goat too, can you kill and eat the goats when it's time to eat them? How do you handle such situation, sell the goats, keep them as pet or just let them live?

Asking this question to see if what I learnt about animals-human relationship is true and can be proven.

I have a friend who had some goats cleaning up weeds on a property he owned. His family became friendly with the goats and treated them as pets. That led to the goats acting more like pets than workers and they would end up hanging around near the residence waiting for attention instead of doing their jobs. As a response, my friend slaughtered and ate the goats, then bought more and asked his family to leave them alone. It worked and there was no more goat eating… Not quite the same, but in this story it was the compassion for goats that led to their demise.
7918  Economy / Reputation / Re: Vod is a liar. Get him out of DT! on: July 07, 2021, 10:04:17 PM
Not even active anymore and there are still users including his ridiculous delusional lie filled trust ratings into DT.  His partner has even joined the fray posting a provably false lie as a negative trust rating on my feedback.

It should be clear to everyone that Vod had some sort of severe mental issues and chose to target me as an outlet for his misery.  It would be nice if the users supporting his delusionary use of the trust network would do the right thing and exclude him.  There really shouldn't be a place for this type of harassment here, especially long after the abuser has succumbed to the results of their behavior.

I don't think it's enough just to remove Vod from your trust network by adding ~Vod to your trust settings either, those still using his mental decline to attack others via the trust network are indeed guilty of the same abuse, only to a more cowardly level that shouldn't be accepted here.  I guess this cowardly behavior needs to start having a brighter light shined on it.
7919  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Selling BTC i accept bank transfer or cash on: July 07, 2021, 09:55:07 PM
How much are you selling?  What rate are you hoping to get back?  Will you send BTC first to a trusted seller?  Will you accept cash in the mail?

These are all questions that pretty much everyone who could possibly be interested in this would ask.  If you're trying to make a trade, I would recommend providing the basic information for someone looking into this sort of thing.

Your best bet will always be using an exchange.  Using a trusted member might also be acceptable.  You wouldn't want to use escrow for something like this though, since bank transfers could be reversed after escrow is released.  Stay safe.  There's a reason people trade with Bitcoin and not USD.
7920  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I owe Michael Saylor an Apology.. on: July 07, 2021, 09:52:29 PM
I applaud his bullishness and conviction, but his methods and advice leave something to be desired.  Specifically his use of debt.  He tells people to mortgage their homes and spend every last cent they have buying Bitcoin.  I've never really seen this ridiculous type of advice be praised before so it's weird.  Sure, he might turn out to be right and if everyone took his advice we'd certainly all be rich.  However, it seems incredibly irresponsible, possibly more than Musk getting people to pour their life savings into a joke meme coin for dogs to use on the internet.  At least Musk wasn't openly telling people to get loaned every dollar they could and dump it into crypto.

Saylor is doing something amazing for Bitcoin holders, but I just wish that debt wasn't a part of it.  Bitcoin should be used to help people escape debt, not accumulate it, regardless of how beneficial you may believe that to be.
