7961  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you pay with Bitcoin whenever you're able to? on: June 30, 2021, 09:49:56 PM
I used to back when it was a p2p currency.  Nowadays the right thing to do according to the community is to HODL, right?  That's how Bitcoin is going to have value according to those in control of it's development.  You are supposed to just mortgage your house and buy as much Bitcoin as you can, then never sell your BTC and take out more loans as you need money using the Bitcoin as collateral.  That's the new world we are all striving for right?  Don't spend anything and take on as much debt as possible?  That's what Michael Saylor told me and I'm sure he has the community's best interests in mind.  Cheesy
7962  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: Dogg Token on: June 30, 2021, 09:45:54 PM
Imagine if it were that easy to get $4,200,000,000.00 from strangers on the internet based on this thread.  I get that a lot of new entrants in crypto are just plain stupid and don't understand finance or think things through, but do you have any idea how much money $4,200,000,000.00 is?  This is just another in the long line of coins hoping to trick people who don't understand market caps into thinking it is possible for this coin to ever possibly hit $1.  The fact that there are 4,200,000,000 coins in existence should be enough for anyone with half a brain to run screaming from this project.  Hope this helps someone.
7963  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Mining Hardware For Sale since the recent Migration out of China on: June 30, 2021, 09:39:25 PM
Is there a place to purchase the Chinese miners being dumped due to the migration out of China?

Also, what is the typical USD/THash price for new miners out of China?

I appreciate the help!

I keep hearing about this massive hardware sale coming from China but I'm not seeing it.  What I'm seeing is a massive relocation of hardware out of China.  Even if they are selling, it would have been a much better deal to buy new when BTC was hovering around $60K as opposed to now, right?  I just don't think this is the buying opportunity everything seems to think it is.  I could very well be completely wrong over time, but I still think the right buying opportunity is going to be with new miners and a much higher BTC price.
7964  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2021 NBA Season on: June 30, 2021, 09:35:33 PM
It's time for the Bucks to show the world that they are not only relying on Giannis to win.
We have high paid superstar, Lopez, Middleton and Holiday should be able to handle this and protect their home by winning game 5.

I don't think I agree here.  The Bucks do need Giannis to win.  He's the heart of their entire system.  Without him they're a bunch of average NBA players or aging former all star candidates.  I don't think the Hawks are anywhere near the top of NBA teams either, and it's a bit of a mystery how they managed to get this far, but it's looking very promising for them to reach the Finals without Giannis in the picture.  All you can do is hope his knee heals miraculously overnight so he's good to go tomorrow.

Bottom line, without Giannis in the picture, you might as well start passing out rings after the western conference finals.
7965  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [NFTs] FEEDBACK on: June 30, 2021, 09:27:25 PM
That picture is stolen and i already have 12 too many nfts that proven stolen pictures.
It looks like you photoshopped a bitcoin symbol over a coffee cup.  Why would someone pay $500 for this.

Indeed, as if NFTs weren't worthless enough already, slapping a Bitcoin logo over some clipart and trying to sell it for $500 is not only borderline scam behavior (I've seen people get negative trust feedback for a lot less) it's downright insulting to anyone with half a brain.  The fact that someone would be ok with taking $500 from someone else for this shows the kind of person they are, and it's not good.  I hope you are able to think about this and try harder to create actual value instead of trying to shwindle someone with phony works of art.

7967  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Million dollar win on $15 parlay whoa on: June 30, 2021, 07:52:23 PM
A long time ago I used to bet insane parlays everyday with a buddy from work. We would only put a dollar in every day, but we hit a few for a couple thousand dollars. I think it’s important to remember while looking at the wins is great, this gambler probably had many losses to go along with it. Still though, this is obviously a huge life changing win. This is the sort of story that brings people to bet.
7968  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2021 NBA Season on: June 30, 2021, 03:07:09 AM
I can’t believe that an Atlanta Hawks vs Phoenix Suns Finals matchup looks like a strong possibility at the moment. If you would have told me that two years ago I would have said you were absolutely crazy. It’s great to see how both teams benefitted from good trades by their GM to make this possible. Phoenix took a chance on Chris Paul’s contract and Atlanta took a chance grabbing Capela from the Rockets. Examples of winning championships from the boardroom.
7969  Other / Meta / Re: What Would Be Your Reason to Leave Bitcointalk? on: June 29, 2021, 09:10:06 PM
Interesting that the most common response is that people would be prevented by life from participating here, followed by being banned.  You can see the lack of personal accountability.  If something is important to you, you make time for it.  Nothing "prevents" you from doing things but yourself.  A better wording might be, "I've decided to focus my free time on my personal life."  Being banned should also be reworded to something like, "my inability to follow the rules and be a productive member."

Even the third highest response, "Crypto has made me wealthy already."  Total bullshit.  Crypto doesn't make people wealthy, people's actions do.  If you make an investment and trade  or hold it successfully to make a lot of money, it wasn't the investment that made you rich, it was your handling of the investment.  That's why you're the one that pays the taxes.

I usually don't go out of my way to shit on polls, but this one really rubbed me the wrong way from the responses and the answers.  If you want to be successful, you need to first take personal responsibility for your destiny.  Crypto isn't going to make you wealthy (your actions using it might) and nobody is going to prevent you from using this forum but yourself.

I hope that word vomit helps someone.

Am I the only one who is unable to place single bets?  Other people have to be having this issue right?  I'm able to place multibets just fine, but single bets give me no way to place a wager amount.  Am I missing something?  Is there a trick to single bets that I'm just overlooking?  Are certain browsers known to have issues with placing single bets?  I would assume if this problem was widespread it would be a priority, so maybe it's just TOR browsers that have this issue?  If so, it has to be effecting the amount of bets being placed on the site.  I would advise you to take a look at the browser data and see if anyone using TOR is placing single bets.

Is anyone else able to place single bets using the TOR browser without issue?

Did you know that it was PGP's 30th anniversary a few days ago? It was on the 6th of June and Phil Zimmermann posted a short essay for the occasion: https://philzimmermann.com/EN/essays/PGP_30th.

A message I received.  Very cool.  No, I did not know it was PGP's 30th anniversary a few days ago, nor did I know that is was 30 years old!  I'm glad to have been brought up to speed on this fact and am shocked that it's still usable today.  I guess after 30 years it has showed it has some legitimate staying power, but I'm sure some criticism it receives is probably justified after all this time as well.

Thanks for the information!  I appreciate it.
7972  Economy / Securities / Re: 📈 NastyFans: The Bitcoin Enthusiast Fan Club (est. 2012) on: June 29, 2021, 08:11:59 PM
Hi!

OgNasty, how do you see the recent developments around to huge amount of Chinese hashpower quitting and selling their gear?

Do you see this as a buying opportunity for Nastyfans to get some mining equipment?

Cheers!

There’s a huge amount of gear going offline and coming online again. Most of the operations are relocating or selling massive amounts of gear to large entities, so I think the opportunity will be limited to miners getting a couple weeks of low difficult rewards.

With BTC prices having dropped nearly 50% so quickly, I’d personally rather be a seller than a buyer of anything priced in USD right now.

I also don’t think we’ve dabbled in used equipment before and with the rate of failure we’ve seen in new equipment, buying used stuff now seems like a risk as you’d likely get the stuff the big companies thought was in too bad of shape to sell to their large partners.
7973  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2021 NBA Season on: June 29, 2021, 12:29:31 PM
I wouldn’t get too excited. Paul George may have turned in one of the best Clippers post season performances ever, but I don’t think you can expect 2 more games of that. It has made things a lot more interesting in the series though as Chris Paul must be having 3-1 flashbacks. I think yo-yo can expect the Suns to bounce back strong in the next game since they won’t be wanting to take this to 7.
7974  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Are there any Bitcoin mining pools that "mint" new coins when you get a payout? on: June 28, 2021, 07:01:19 PM
You are looking for p2pool. Not sure how well the forked implementation is doing these days but there is still active development occurring on the original implementation behind the scenes. No idea if or when we’ll ever see it return to it’s glory days, but we can hope. P2pool mining was an important idea that wasn’t able to sustain interest for a variety of reasons, but is no less important now then when it was dreamed up. What you’re asking for in the way of fresh coins was just 1 advantage, but a cool one.

The only crypto coin (if not mistaken) that glows in the dark!  Wink

Please take a moment and list your two favorite crypto coins 1btc value or less.

that's prolly in the "less" category  Cheesy

The only glowing crypto coin is a cool distinction. I also didn’t bother to read closely enough to see the below 1 BTC request until now. My bad.
7977  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2021 NBA Season on: June 27, 2021, 03:57:06 AM
If you are talking about Chris Paul, we should disregard everything about Covid why the Phoenix Suns lose on Game 3. We all see some adjustments made by the Clippers on that game which they should be as Kawhi Leonard might not come back on the series or even to the Finals.
Yes, I was referring to CP3. I hope he came back 100% healthy as he is a key player for the Suns.

Last quarter, 5 seconds to go, the game is very competitive and interesting. Both teams are playing well

Was a great game and an exciting finish. The Suns are now 1 win away from competing in their first Finals series since the days of Charles Barkley and Michael Jordan. The Clippers are doing better than I would have expected without Kawhi, but they just don’t have enough to beat the Suns. Maybe next year will be their time, but I think they’re still a missing piece away from being a true championship threat.
7978  Other / Meta / Re: Signature Whitelist / Additional text label. on: June 27, 2021, 12:43:13 AM
When hitting 69 posts, text should be replaced with "nice" so we get a dozen more threads in meta about "what happened to my post count!?"

This has been proven to be a bad idea in the past for the forum. For example, it used to say “Leet” when you hit 1337 posts. I was deleting my posts as I made new ones for many months to keep the Leet post count. A lot of those posts could have provided good insight and knowledge for people years later looking back at certain events. I’ve even been accused of removing posts to hide things as a result. I’m just one person, but if this were widespread and still continuing today I would imagine that countless informative posts would have been lost as a result.
7979  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Transaction Accelerator Services, Is it fair for the miners? on: June 26, 2021, 09:09:44 PM
None of those pool miners are forced to use the pool.

The thing is most miners do NOT know about this, or they have no idea that this actually affects their profit, and since nobody has complained about it, the pools think it's okay to do it.

Ignorance isn’t really an excuse. The pool got themselves into a position to be able to offer this service and they’re taking advantage of it. The miners are free to solo mine or use a different pool.

I agree it would be great for miners to get a piece of this action, but I think we’ll see Facebook start paying users a share of advertising revenue before mining pools start sharing revenue from their earned market position with miners.
7980  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Anywhere to buy cheap silver? on: June 26, 2021, 08:46:05 PM
It seems like that physical silver premiums have absolutely skyrocketed.

APMEX is now selling their Buffalo rounds for $30/oz which is around $4 above spot per round. ASE's are even crazier at $37 or so everywhere I look.

1) Any particular reason for the rise in silver premiums?
2) Is there anywhere that you can still get physical silver for a price close to spot?

Thanks!

The obvious answer would be that retail demand for silver rounds is outpacing the supply.  While there isn't currently a shortage of silver, most silver is held in giant bars that have to be melted down and minted by mints to sell to retail buyers.  The process of getting them from industrial bars to retail rounds isn't keeping up with buyers of the retail rounds which is causing price increases by retailers to maintain inventory.  I think it's likely a short term problem, at least at the moment.

I've got a wee bit o' shine that I could potentially help you out with if you're looking to buy some silver closer to spot.  PM me with how much you want and if you aren't trying to grab too much of my stack I may be willing to help you out.  Smiley
