Don't be put off too much by the horror stories, for every one of them there are thousands of smooth transactions. One of the biggest shocks I got with Bitcoin was realising how much cotton wool had been wrapped around online financial dealing. Just use the same kind of common sense and judgement as you would when dealing in cash, getting someone you know to do your exchanges for you until you get comfortable is definitely a good move.

I do believe BTC has an incredible future. But I can't emphasize this enough, BE VERY CAREFUL AND VERY PARANOID. If you don't do the research, and just rush in blindly thinking that it's cool to invest in Bitcoin at this time, take the money and go to a casino instead. You'll have way more fun losing it without intending to that way.
I started posting on here thinking my little bit of experience as the "family tech" meant I could figure this stuff out and safely invest in BTC. My first post on here led to an interesting experience with a Hero member that made it very clear to me that just talking about investing in Bitcoin can draw unwanted attention. Then I started reading the posts and threads of some of the more experienced people on here and man...some of the stories these people shrug off or endure and keep on going humbled me more than I can say. I'll keep reading and learning because it IS fascinating, but I wouldn't want to be in their shoes. even if I could afford their shoes! (grin)
I've come to the conclusion that the best way for me to invest in Bitcoin, if I choose to do so, is to have a friend I've known for years that buys BTC whenever he has spare cash, is to give him MY spare cash and ask humbly him to do the same for me.

After reading here for a few days, I finally understand what's going to happen next: 1. This week Bitcoin is going to remain at $105-$106. Sunday night some "whale" is going to sale a bunch of Bitcoin, sending it down to $30-$50. Then it'll shoot back up to $180 in 2 weeks. - 2. Daytrade on this rinse and repeat cycle every couple of weeks until Bitcoin suddenly shoots up to $300k a coin by June next year. Well why didn't you all just say so! All us Noobs have to do is buy in at $30 and sale at $180! - 3. Profit! Now if I can just figure out that wallet.dat thingy, and get some fiat, getting uber rich will be easy! What? 108-109 now? But...profit?? argh. And this all has something to do with a "Wall." I'm assuming it's the one the dart board is hanging on. Best advice I've seen yet; "buy bitcoins with all your spare cash. Never invest more than you can afford to lose."  |

Isn't that gambling, defined? Some day traders do more than simply watch the price & ignore past performance etc.
...You only saw the massive swing from doubles to 250+ because of a huge influx of new players. If that phenomenon never happens again, you can completely forget about ever seeing $200B again, let alone higher. +1 Couldn't agree more So to rephrase it in a more positive light, aren't you also saying that all BTC needs is a huge influx of new players for a massive swing from the low $100B to $200B+ again? |

i'm not crazy i'm telling you 180$ in about 2 weeks time, deal with it  we are stuck between 23.6% and 32.8% retracement and you plan $180^^ without massive good news that's rly hard to imagine ..  I'm bullish, but may I have some of what you're smoking? cause unless Amazon/Walmart/Target/Newegg/McDonalds decide to start taking BTC, I don't see 180 anytime soon (soon= june/july) Actually just Walmart would do it. Can you imagine the ArvestBitmartATM? (grin) Any of those retailers would do it... all at the same time would spike BTC to the roof!!! Actually I think Amazon would be the one with the most impact and this is a pseudo-educated guess due to Amazon's target audience is more educated than walmart. NewEgg is too niche to nerds and not as massive as Amazon. Target has generally higher income levels of customers than Walmart so in order of impact: Amazon, Target, Newegg, Walmart... Sure. But being literally a poor newb trying to understand a small portion of what I read in here, I tend to think in the order I spend most of my fiat money. Which would be: Walmart, Target, Amazon, Newegg. At 2 of which I could take family and friends to see and say "See! I told you Bitcoin; Not a Fad!" (grin) |
