I think the pizza guy went on coinbase to sell his bitcoins for USD, so I'm not sure who wins.
83  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: With current processes, Mt. Gox USD withdrawals may take up to 22 months. on: September 26, 2013, 01:53:57 AM
you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave...

i cant help but wonder if the notion of "money printing" will ensure that the mining market space is always based on pre-orders (if it doesn't eventually consolidate to the top few mining pools or even become centralized - by which point I hope I am dead).

Thanks BFL.  Such an upstanding company.
Check out my video in signature =P

They're selling "mining by the GH" now. That might be where they're hoping to be. In that respect, they would need the monarch to succeed - but how soon does not concern them IMO. Also the demand that this places on supplies for people ordering the entire physical card and not for a slice of it will be unknown to anyone but them.

I don't know what the gh/watt of their monarch card is supposed to be, so if they don't hit that they'll likely continue rolling out products till they hit the asic spec sweet spot so to speak. The point when the only thing you can do is add more cards. sort of like the GPU era.

86  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Buying bitcoins discreetly and then claiming tax return on: September 26, 2013, 01:07:06 AM
i want to know your opinions how can one buy bitcoins as if some product and then claim it as expense at the end of year? directly or indirectly. applies to self employed folk out there.
technically the only way to avoid capital gains from sale of bitcoins is to buy things, so I dont think this is that crazy of a question. Can you handle an audit?
87  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Places to buy ads targeted to bitcoiners? on: September 26, 2013, 01:06:04 AM
you can do targeted ads on facebook, if people have bitcoin in their likes or w/e they call it.
88  Other / Off-topic / Re: Atlantis down? on: September 26, 2013, 01:02:50 AM
As I said it was definitely up a few hours ago.
It wasn't them. You were connecting to the FBI.
They would need the private key to take over a .onion site, not impossible but kinda difficult if they dont know its location.
89  Other / Off-topic / Re: Atlantis down? on: September 26, 2013, 12:58:20 AM
Nah, it wasn't Atlantis that drove LTC price above BTC0,01, though it played a part. General speculation, particularly over Mt Gox trading LTC with its new engine, probably drove it a lot more. I don't think that's the end of Litecoin, any more than SR closing would signal the end of Bitcoin.

Those Hitler videos are usually lame, especially if you know some German, but this one was rather amusing somehow. Thanks. Smiley
The best ones are edited well so you dont really need sound IMO! Sometimes the scene is just perfect for a given situation =P

91  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: COINBASE.COM - warning on: September 26, 2013, 12:43:54 AM
I made a deposit in bitcoin to my coinbase account today and while usually a deposit would show up immediately as "pending," my deposit is still not showing up in any way after 7 confirmations.

I have emailed them and will post back here when the problem is resolved, hopefully soon.

Having to wait for them to resolve this issue may make me reconsider using and or recommending that others use coinbase.

Olaf from Coinbase here.

My apologies for the trouble with this! Our node got out-of-sync with the blockchain last night, causing transactions to not be broadcast to the network and remain in the Pending state too long or not appear in users' accounts. We're fixing this right now, and all these transactions should be broadcast and confirmed over the next couple hours.

In the longer term we're working on revamping our node so this type of thing doesn't happen in the future. Thanks for your patience while we fix this.
Olaf! I'm referencing this post for some trust. Great work, thanks for all you do.
92  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: COINBASE.COM - problem resolved on: September 26, 2013, 12:43:11 AM
If they ever IPO, I'll buy as much as possible. Smiley
Same. I think they have a lot more to deal with tho :/ imagine tomorrow they're closed. It would be devastating yet unsurprising.

OP: glad it was resolved. Sorry for calling your post fud. I just knew it would be resolved eventually - from personal experience.

The couple sued me for lack of consortium didn't get any results either.

Some events happened last week, that have forced us to make a decision to go out of business. A lot of issues compounded to press us to do this. The failure of the Klondike project was one. Chase, our bank, shut down our accounts. Also the delay in the shipment of the chips has resulted in a lot of customers asking for refund. We already owe a lot of money to PayPal, and with all the refund requests, it is impossible for us to continue our operation profitably. So we have decided to dissolve the company.

We are going to ask for a refund from Yifu. As soon as we get a refund from him, we will start refunding all the orders. We will be able to refund about 50% of every order with this amount. We are trying to get our money out of Chase, which will help us refund another ~5% of each order. We are trying to return as many components as we can, and as soon as we get more money back, we will send additional pro-rated payments to each order.

Once we get a refund from Yifu, we will be sending an email to everyone asking for a current Bitcoin address where to send the payments.

YOU ARE ON THE HOOK FOR 100% NOT 50%.

Dont think you can scam people to accept a 50% deal for YOUR failures. Customers are not responsible for the risks you took.

Your operation cost is no way near the 50% of the estimated 800 Grand you took in is it?

I'm telling you look into Inc's.  Assuming Amir set it up right you can sue the crap out of TH and it wont effect his personal assets.  He made bank off salary, and company will be gone after closed and paying out what money is left.

If you make a case for Fraud you can bypass the Corporation. That's all I will say on this subject currently.

Best of luck to you.  But chances of being able to do fraud are not the greatest, I mean you supported them till lately even.  Is your lawyer charging by the hour by chance and not on money at end of case?

I think a lot of people will be sad to see why LLC/INC's are used and the high level of protection they offer.

TH lied, delayed, ran a horrible business, possibly a scam once they knew they were going down.  But proving the business was a fraud from the beginning and trying to get Amir is a hard battle.
It's like this person I rear ended, I said sorry I was changing the radio. The woman and her husband sue me for lack of consortium and criminal liability. I did not set out to rear end them intentionally, and they couldn't prove I did either.

You wont change my opinion on them.

Posting FUD on BCT wont make Olaf respond any quicker...

How is posting facts FUD?  It is not FUD if it is the truth.

The FUD is assuming that coinbase wont resolve the issue, demonstrated by this post. Or that it affects multiple users, which so far there are two.

I never said they would not resolve it.

I posted this as a warning to people who do not want to have their bitcoin tied up while Coinbase resolves problems they are having.  I would rather not have my bitcoin tied up in limbo because Coinbase is having problems.  If you are OK having your bitcoin tied up, then go ahead and deposit bitcoin to Coinbase.  I wish I had known they were having problems, because I would not have made the deposit.
Curious, what would your alternative to coinbase be?
