82  Bitcoin / Project Development / Freebitcoins.org needs a new coder captain! on: July 16, 2012, 07:15:00 PM
I started freebitcoins.org last year when I got bitten by the bitcoin bug. We did a lot of marketing and promotion on the site, had a couple of employees, and ended up getting about 10,000 users in the first month!

Then when mtgox got hacked, when mybitcoin.com ran away, and when the price of bitcoins crashed, we lost faith in bitcoin and were overwhelmed by the volatility and just put the site on the backburner and moved on with life.

Then in December we tried to restart the site with a contest to give away causacious coins ... and then our coder got hired by a big company and we were left floating alone in the ocean of forgotten bitcoin dreams again.

So now I see that bitcoin is coming back, Coinbase just got YCombinator funding, the price is back up to $7+ and people are still using freebitcoins.org even though we haven't really given it any love in almost a year.

Freebitcoins.org has 30,000 members now, and still gets about 10,000 visits a month! I was SHOCKED when I cracked open the google analytics account and saw that.

We have about 300 people requesting bitcoin payouts totalling about 50 bitcoins in total. I really want to restart the site, pay everyone out, and get a new captain who can steer the site in the right direction!

If anyone wants to be part of the re-launch of the site, please reply here ... we're hoping to find a bitcoin evangelist with coding skills who knows a bit about internet marketing and email marketing.

We are willing to give a % of the company away to the right person.

its too bad there's no a way to visually see what the high bids are without having to read through all the posts and add it up yourself...

I would like to place a bid for 2 slots at 4.5

This site is still for sale - we didn't even start to monetize it because I started making the movie - that doesn't mean the value is $0, that just means someone else who wants to start a bitcoin business can take advantage of all of this code and design & promotion, and just walk into a sweet ass bitcoin business.

Do you know that 6970's can be bought for $330 new?  It might help you out to lower your prices.

Andrew can you give me some price suggestions on these auctions then? I don't want them sitting there not selling.

Ever since Mt Gox went down, things got crazy, we weren't able to put resources towards the site. It's an awesome business and website, just needs a new payment processor (or if MtGox is fixed now, it just needs to be updated...)

I've been too busy with other things since July to even look at this site, and I'd love to hand it off to someone in the btc community who can nurture it.

Still for sale

Hey guys, I stopped mining back in July...not because the price of bitcoin crashed, but because I'm a filmmaker, and I finished my movie! http://www.thelegendistrue.com (http://www.psychoticforestranger.com)

It's done (the movie), and I had to leave my place for 2 months to start showing it at festivals and private screenings! I just got back, and even if the price of bitcoin hadn't of tanked, I would be selling this because I have no time to deal with it!

Here's a video I did on my rig half way through

(the noise is actually a faulty fan from walmart not the rig)

  • If anyone wants to make me an offer for all of this let me know.

Any suggestions where I could sell it all locally to avoid the hassle of packing it all and shipping it all?

Sorry about our lack of customer service, we got overwhelmed with other projects and planned to come back to support the site - but we realized we just can't dedicate any time to it anymore.

So they are for sale:

98  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Silver for Bitcoin - youtube video, forbitcoin.com promo on: July 09, 2011, 05:03:38 AM
nah dude - there were 3 people who ordered that - but with all the mtgox issues (still haven't got our account back) and the canadian postal strike, things have been nuts.

Someone else is administrating the forbitcoin account for us, but the silver offer was taken down because the price of bitcoin was fluctuating so much, and people were misunderstanding the gig - we can't afford to sell these 10 oz bars for less than $400, and the bitcoin price is too volatile now.

Whoever bought will receive, or get a refund - we are just waiting on mtgox to fix their shit.

100  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: freebitcoins.org BETA - Get Free Bitcoins, 20% Referral Bonus on: July 02, 2011, 01:45:01 AM
Sorry guys, we're just waiting on MtGox now - just got the account back, and now there's a problem with their API - we'll have the first round of payments out soon though!
Any updates on when to expect a fully working system? Someone who's signed up told me that he has a bunch of completed tasks pending for several days now. But I guess validation isn't related to the MtGox API.

tell him to send an email to support@freebitcoins.org if he has questions about the offers - some of the offers take up to 7 days to be verified by the advertisers  =\  I know right, boo!
