Isn't Bf4 easily contrasted with Nh5?

If so, I don't see many options other than move our bishop back.

That being the case, we have four votes for Nc3 (Timelord2067, jjacob, languagehasmeaning, and myself) and two for b3 (actmyname and Taras). Ordinarily I would wait to see if Taras is convinced to change his vote, but at this point it doesn't make any difference. Looks like we're going with 10. Nc3.

Yes, please add my vote to Nc3 too, even though Taras' images about the b3 street protest and summit were quite entertaining...  Grin

A question for all:
if offered the chance, would you swap the Queens at this stage? (yes for me)
Absolutely not! All else being equal, never trade an active piece for an inactive one! Our queen is well-placed (Black isn't forcing it away just for the fun of it!) while his isn't doing much at all, and this is a situation we want to maintain as long as possible. Conversely, Black will likely want to trade queens when he can, and may try to force the issue.

Mmm... this makes a lot of sense. Good to know.

The only reason I didn't say Qh4 was to allow the Knight out and for the Queen to stand watch.

If we decide to attack the Rook in a8 with the Bishop by moving the Knight, we still have some other options to move it in a protected square. Or we simply could reserve this attack for a later move...
What about these options? Do they make Qh4 more interesting to your eyes?
86  Other / Off-topic / Re: Lets play a game of Chess on: September 10, 2015, 06:23:53 AM
I would trade queens if we had a chance and would support Qh4 if you can show me how that would lead to a trade. My guess is that he would play Be7 before moving the knight on f6 so we would never get the chance to trade our h4 queen for his on d8.

Yes, that chance is unlikely. I intended my question more in general and not specifically related to Qh4.

No matter what we do I bet he plays Bb7 next. Otherwise we can play Ne5 and open up our bishop on the long diagonal attacking his rook. He cannot escape with Rb8 or Ra7 because we can play Nc6 forking his rook and queen. So he would have to just take our knight with his and allow us to take his rook. I wish we could move twice in a row before he could play Bb7!

I'm confident we can play something like this once we exit the check to our queen.

It seems 9. Qc2 has overwhelming support.

Indeed. For what it's worth, I'd have voted Qh4.

Qc2 is really too conservative. It seems to me like we skip a beat...
Isn't the White supposed to play the game (with the Black acting consequently) in the first moves?

You're 11 minutes too late, but I'll let it slide. We need a tiebreaker. d3 or Nc3?
TY, I should have post immediatly just the important part, I would have gained at least half hour.  Roll Eyes

Waiting for a tiebreaker to pop up.

The amount of drama happening on the forum has exceeded it's limit.

The risk for an insubstantial post is high, but...
LOL!  Grin
I am not sure what you are laughing about Huh
Are you trying to imply that the amount of drama is too low
pretty sure he is saying your post is off topic, and he may not know about the drama

Come on guys, I was laughing about the sarcasm in the pseudo-tech definition of a 502 error on Bitcointalk.

The fear for OT/insubstantial post was for my short answer, that initially was just 'LOL'...

If needed, I can promise I will never laugh again at your gags! Tongue

Edit

PS: We are talking about the generic good old dramas of every kind always happened on these forums, right?

Ok, I think I've found what drama you were referring to:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1171059.0
indeed I wasn't aware of it, I'm reading it now... (23 pages in only 5 days, not bad...)

Edit:
Ok, let's make it a bit more substantial:
these 502 errors happen quite often in some days and can be very annoying, but to be honest I don't remeber I've got them in the last few weeks.
91  Other / Off-topic / Re: Lets play a game of Chess on: September 09, 2015, 02:15:15 AM
Okay, so we have three votes for d3 (jjacob, languagehasmeaning, and myself), two votes for d4 (abacus and sourgummies), and one vote for Qb3 (actmyname). I actually prefer Nc3 or Qb3, but I'm still going with d3 to break the tie. If there are no new suggestions in the next 24 hours, Team Bitcointalk is going with 8. d3.

I prefer Nc3 way more than d3 (and Qb3 too).
The objective of d4 was to swap the pawns, as I also think that
The more pieces we can trade the better chance we have to minimize his skill edge
But I could be wrong as well considering what you answered to that quote.
You've probably the best chess knowledge among us challengers so I think it's better to follow your suggestions when I'm unsure.

So, if it's allowed, I would revise my vote for Nc3. In that case the updated situation should be:

2 votes for d3   (jjacob, languagehasmeaning)
2 votes for Nc3 (Foxpup, abacus)
1 vote   for d4   (sourgummies)
1 vote   for Qb3 (actmyname)

@letsplayagame:
Is it allowed, in the Chess world, to say "Good Luck" before a competition? Smiley
I think a few of Bitcointalk members will cheer on you (in the World Cup, but not this match...  Grin)
92  Other / Off-topic / Re: Lets play a game of Chess on: September 03, 2015, 07:34:28 PM
I disagree. It's an even worse time than ever. It blocks off useful escapes from 8... b5 and we don't even have our rooks together yet. 8. d3 is better if you just want to get the bishop out.

So far we have two votes for d4, one for Qb3, and one for Nc3. I will support Qb3 or d3 if nobody else likes Nc3, since either of those are better than d4 in my opinion.

I'm open to revise my suggested d4, as I've no problems to believe that it's not the best move. But I would like to share what lead me there just to see how far I could be from pursuing a good reasoning.

Beside opening the route for the bishop, the idea behind d4 is to contrast the power that Black has gained in the centre of the chessboard. This would happen (IMVHO) by swapping d4 with the pawn in c5, opening for us the d file where Queen and Rook could attack togheter.

If Black attacks Queen with b5 or Nb6, then we could still move Qd3, Qc2, Qc3, Qb3 and then swap the pawns.

About Qb3 seems to me a bit of a waste move, with any gain for us, while your Nc3 helps to attack the center squares.

Thoughts?

PS:
Sorry for the long and probably hard to read post, but it is the first time I
1) play chess on internet,
2) play chess in English,
3) use algebric notation.

My following posts will be shorter. Smiley

Exciting thread!
I was used to play chess with friends, years ago. Nothing specials, just a lot of fun at our low, amateur level.

About the move, it seems to me that now is the right time for the already proposed pawn in d4.

8. d4

I have another question for you: are you going to delete this thread too?

I never deleted a thread, it WAS deleted by mods my friend.

Some days ago, after a deleted thread, I looked at https://bitcointalk.org/modlog.php where I read your member ID:

Quote
Remove topic: REVERSE-PANIC in topic #1156433 by member #181176
Remove topic: PANIC in topic #1156411 by member #181176

I have no reasons to not trust your words; then maybe that "by" in "Remove topic ... by member #" is referring just to who started the topic and not to who removed it.
(well - yes - a modlog is supposed to log mod's actions)

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Dow Jones is FALLING,
Shanghai Composite Index is FALLING
DAX ( here in Germany ) is FALLING

FALLING FAST. I tell you, September and October '15 will be important months, big world changes.

But what is happening with Bitcoin? Will it rises against the Stock Market, or will it be pulled down by it?

I have another question for you: are you going to delete this thread too?

I don't know which typo you are talking about but if you want another username and if it's not in use you can register again with that name.

The OP might've wanted Steven_M.

Yep, that should be what OP wanted:

I don't want to repeat here what other members have already suggested, but creating a new account is really the fastest way for you.
You have nothing to lose from your current account with just 2 posts.
97  Other / Off-topic / Re: Alternative instant messenger for private messaging on: August 18, 2015, 11:37:10 AM
Doing communication via board private message is inconvenient in order to talk about deals. Most users usually use Skype or MSN but some do not use any of them. I am looking for an instant messenger what is usable for both parties after a quick and simple registration. Any suggestions?

I tried Slack but its usage is limited for free users.

@mods: I do not know if this is the right section for this question. Please move it, if not!

I noticed that nobody has suggested Bitmessage. Doesn't it meet your requirements?
Or am I missing something here?

Edit:
Ops, it must be the 'instant' part what is missing with Bitmessage...

What happened in the third step of this evolution? I see signs of a bad regression...
It seems mostly like a halving of rendering power rather then a doubling.  Cheesy
99  Other / Meta / Re: Moderator - can we PLEASE have a newbie filter switched on ? on: July 31, 2015, 12:58:24 AM
Kindly lock this thread, and open it again in the "Meta" section to get the deserved attention, thank you.
just move it to meta will do. duplicate thread that isn't even on the right section is always going to be moved to the trashcan.
I don't know if the OP has the right to move the thread to another section in the forum, if he really can do this, then you are right.

Yes, the OP can move his own thread.

But the real problem here is that the newbie jail isn't going to come back, as can be deduced from many similar threads. Sad
100  Economy / Services / Re: Manage a website and i will pay on: July 31, 2015, 12:12:48 AM
So basically you are paying $50 per month, in exchange you expect someone to manage your site everyday for 3 hours a day.
So I calculated this and if I am not wrong you are gonna pay $1.8 per hour. I guess in some really poor regions of the world this is quite a fortune...
Exactly.
I wouldn't take the job even if I had 5 hours free time every day.
[skip]
Maybe because you both live in a country where $1.80 an hour is a bad wage,
[skip]

Guys, it's even worse than that!
50/(30*3) = 0.55 $/hour
