82  Other / Beginners & Help / Is MINING actually WORTH it now? on: April 12, 2014, 02:43:50 AM
What would be the MINIMUM amount of Hashes per second would be necessary to make "mining" worth it?

Worth it is actually getting coins in a reasonably short amount of time.

What is the cost to get that many Hashes?

If someone is not willing or able to invest in FULL TIME mining?  should they bother?

it sounds like NECESSITIES (like gas, mortgage, groceries and insurance) rather than LUXURIES (movie tickets, video games, movies and computers)

maybe though if more BTC is spent on luxuries it will bring about the necessities.

For instance when CREDIT CARDS came out - the NECESSITIES were the LAST to accept them (grocery, mortgage, insurance)....the same with ONLINE BILL PAY - they are usually the last to follow.

I think the biggest challenge to BTC is the "buy and hold" mentality of most, rather than understanding the "current" flow that makes a "currency" something to be desired.

I would say it has more to do with the buying patterns of Americans/USD and News Cycles.

Over $1000 during Holiday Time after only being in the 10s in January.

And now it is basically riding that wave - still over valued.

unless something major happens to stimulate its worth, the price will continue to decline until we move into the holiday season again, where it will likely surpass last years rate.

Think of how Gasoline prices do based off of Mideast issues and summer usage cycle.

We have had flatline over the last couple years, only because demand for gas outside the USA has balanced out. We once were the largest consumer of oil/gasoline on planet, now the middle class in other countries means our buying power is almost meaningless.  If we stopped buying gas altogether, it would not matter (like it once did) because the demand on the rest of the planet makes up for any hole we may create.

BTC is the same.   Until DEMAND raises (which will be major acceptance) the price will continue to be bubble after bubble until it all stabilizes.

I think BTC will get crushed in the end, but what comes next will be "the one" and globally accepted.

I desperately want BTC to be accepted in the local supermarket. Every month almost 30-40% of my expenses are covered there. Right now I am using CC, will be better if I could use BTC.

What if you could just buy a WalMart or Dillons or Kroger Card with bitcoin, then put your groceries on the card?

I wish I could pay my mortgage with bitcoin.

Banks and government will be the last places you can use bitcoin.

Good idea - landlords for people who are renting also.

there would have to be some sort of proxy set up to do this. this could be done with a combination of 2 corporations - one a for-profit to accept bitcoins for a "budgeting/bookkeeping service" and non-profit that got donations from the for-profit who later offered a community service of paying rents/mortgages

What product or service do you wish was readily available for you to purchase with bitcoin?

What is the biggest barrier you think prevents it now?

92  Other / Beginners & Help / How To Use Web Hosting Servers to Mine for bitcoins FAST? on: December 07, 2013, 08:59:50 PM
Hello,

I am new to mining (2 days)

i have a question about mining

I am a web host that owns multiple servers.  None are ever allowed to be maxed out in capacity.

Is there a tutorial on how to efficiently mine using a web server (they generally have terrible graphics cards but plenty of processing power)

I am guessing that a good miner will use whatever capacity is available on the server 24/7 (i already pay for electric on it!)

During peak times it would mine less, and off times mine more.

Is anyone doing this?

I am a part of the slusch pool service currently. So I am thinking i could set up a new worker on each server.

Anyone think it could mine enough to cover the cost of a server and i could actually dedicate servers to this?

Thanks in advance
