81  Economy / Speculation / Re: Collusion of buying BTC on: November 18, 2015, 11:02:29 AM
That, and $5 million is nowhere near enough to manipulate the price of BTC by 8 - 10%.  Current market cap is around $4.4 billion.  $5 million isn't going to get you far.

82  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anybody getting the 21 bitcoin computer? on: November 18, 2015, 06:20:18 AM
The marketing seems to be focused at the Developer angle.

No, they're just targeting idiots.  For example, they say it ships with a "copy of the blockchain", haha.  That's pretty cool, considering the blockchain is being modified basically every second of the day.

I...  yeah, whatever.
83  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anybody getting the 21 bitcoin computer? on: November 18, 2015, 05:26:49 AM
What great software?  The CLI with a Python 3 library?

That's called Electrum.  You can get that for free here -- https://electrum.org/

This is nothing more than a marketing gimmick,  Even their Amazon page screams, "I believe I'm awesome at copy write and sales pages".
84  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anybody getting the 21 bitcoin computer? on: November 18, 2015, 05:16:45 AM
The software definitely has use, did you even read about it or are you pretending it is a node + mining chip and that is it?

I'm pretending it's a useless piece of junk, because that's exactly what it is. Smiley

Here:  https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Protocol_documentation

There's your "dev kit". Smiley  No need for special hardware.
85  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anybody getting the 21 bitcoin computer? on: November 18, 2015, 04:38:36 AM

Why are some people still calling it a "dev kit"?  What the hell is a "bitcoin dev kit"?  heh, that doesn't even make sense.

It's just some marketers hoping to target the "hipster" wanna-be developers, and make them feel cool by wasting $400 on a device that has absolutely zero use.
86  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anybody getting the 21 bitcoin computer? on: November 16, 2015, 11:26:40 PM

I'm confused.  I never knew hardware had anything to do with firing off and listening to txs over the bitcoin network.

Whatever, all the best to them I guess.  Quite the gimmick though.
87  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Time to stand up to the XT shills here! on: November 08, 2015, 10:50:30 PM
Another idiot making stupid statement.

LOL at "hostile takeover "

Like did he put a gun to your fcking head?

Yeah, that's pretty much exactly what the attempt was.  They wanted to force a hard fork, move everyone to their version, then according to them begin setting up blacklists, and god knows what.  They were doing this for the betterment of their selves, not bitcoin.

Thankfully they fell flat on their face, as the miners have already voted, and they don't give a shit about XT.
88  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Time to stand up to the XT shills here! on: November 08, 2015, 10:41:44 PM
Totally against it here.  Mike and Gavin can sit and spin.

I don't know who they think they are to basically try a hostile takeover of the world's first (popular) crypto-currency, but that's a pretty shitty move on their part.  There's only a few things in life you simply don't do, and this is one of them.
89  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ransom demanded from an attacker on: November 07, 2015, 04:29:54 PM
This scam is as old as dirt.  Before bitcoin, they would tell people to visit their local convenience store and purchase a MoneyPak card or similar, in order to "unlock" their computers.  Depends on how good the hackers are as to whether or not the info is actually encrypted / unaccessible.  If the hackers are good, you have no real choice but to pay them to unlock your data.  If they don't know what they're doing, you can probably just clean the computer and get rid of the virus yourself.

Then tell your brother to quit downloading crap, visiting porn sites, and/or opening e-mail attachments from people he doesn't know.
90  Other / Meta / Re: theymos threatening to ban the biggest business in bitcoin on: November 07, 2015, 09:59:35 AM

Ugghh...  I can't believe this discussion is still going on.

Would the jerk offs please piss off out of the bitcoin community?  Mike and Gavin, go start an alt-coin or something.  Leave us alone.
91  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: wow confirmations are currently taking long..... 6pm EST to now 7.20 EST on: November 05, 2015, 12:45:26 PM

These things are pretty common, and it happens from time to time.  Don't worry, and just wait -- assuming you have a proper fee, it'll confirm in time.

As for fees, I personally just throw in 0.0001 BTC for every input.  Never had a problem with it.

Well, good thing bitcoin doesn't need support from governments then. Smiley

EDIT:  I smell fear and jealously of the unknown.

Besides, doesn't he know what's already happened?  Nearly every government in the world has already setup a committee to investigate bitcoin, and ways to regulate it.  In the majority of cases, it resulted in a shoulder shrug, and nothing was done.  After looking into it, they realized it's impossible to regulate.  They can regulate the fiat transactions within exchanges I guess, but that's about it.
93  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Policing Bitcoin brought to you by Gavin Andresen on: November 05, 2015, 03:28:45 AM
Gavin and Mike can sit and spin.

XT is going nowhere anyway...  miners have already voted, and they're not willing to adopt it, so Mike and Gavin might as well just talk to a cement wall.

94  Economy / Speculation / Re: Fall of Bitcoin? on: November 05, 2015, 01:24:38 AM

It's not going to go down to $1, and if it ever did, bitcoin would cease to exist.  Miners wouldn't be able to afford to run the network if they're only making $25 for every block they solve, hence no more bitcoin.
95  Economy / Speculation / Re: Hello $2500 on: November 04, 2015, 03:48:07 PM
I wouldn't say $2500 is easily attainable.  That would raise the btc market cap from roughly $6 billion to roughly $30 billion.

If you think $24 billion is easy to come by, well then pm me, I have some bridges for sale.

Never said it was going to be easy, nor was it going to happen right away.  Give it a few more years though, and it's definitely within the realm of reality.

$2500 isn't unrealistic, like some people who were preaching $1 million/BTC before.  $2500 is actually attainable, and I can see that happening in the years ahead.
96  Economy / Speculation / Re: Hello $2500 on: November 04, 2015, 02:58:51 PM
that's way too high.

$2500 is easily attainable.  Not saying it's going to happen in the next month (highly doubtful), but it's very easy to envision that price in the future.

After all, researchers report that bitcoin is going to be the 6th largest reserve currency in the world by 2030. Smiley

97  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where's the Positive News on: November 04, 2015, 02:32:08 AM

Lot's of good news lately.  For example:

"Is bitcoin a better investment than gold?"
http://www.marketwatch.com/story/is-bitcoin-a-better-investment-than-gold-2015-11-02

"Bitcoin to be 6th largest reserve currency by 2030: Research"
http://www.cnbc.com/2015/11/03/bitcoin-to-be-6th-largest-reserve-currency-by-2030-research.html

I like these articles much better than others, like ohhh...  Mark Karples bought hookers with customer's bitcoin funds. Smiley
98  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: blocknotify not happening after logging out of SSH? on: November 03, 2015, 03:45:05 PM

Nope, not at all.  It's just a simple 3 line bash script, same as what walletnotify fires.

Plus I have about a dozen servers here, and they're all working fine, except this one.  The 'bitcoind' binary hasn't been modified, and I've verified the SHA hash on it, so it's not that.

99  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: blocknotify not happening after logging out of SSH? on: November 03, 2015, 03:19:57 PM
This smacks of the bitcoind process being owned by the shell - are you sure that bitcoind itself is still running when you log out of SSH?

bitcoind process is still running after I log out.  I can login with a different session and see it via "ps auxw | grep bitcoind", plus it continues to fire the walletnotify command flawlessly.  It stops firing the blocknotify command when I logout of the SSH session I restarted bitcoind with though for some reason.

I'm quite perplexed, and have to admit, am at a bit of a loss here.
100  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / blocknotify not happening after logging out of SSH? on: November 03, 2015, 03:10:12 PM
Having an issue with blocknotify firing on one of the servers I'm responsible for, and am left scratching my head, especially since all other servers are working like a charm.  Quick rundown:

- Bitcoin Core v0.11.1 across all servers

- walletnotify works perfectly at all times

- Both, blocknotify and walletnotify commands are correctly configured, software is fine and tested, etc.  No issues there.

- bitcoind is setup to run under user "coind", all permissions and ownerships are set correctly.

- All servers fire blocknotify just fine, except for one.

- Within the problematic server, if I login and restart bitcoind, it begins firing blocknotify command just fine.  However, when I close that SSH session, it immediately stops firing the blocknotify command, but continues to fire the walletnotify command.

- All servers are set with "daemon=1" in the bitcoin.conf file, although with the problematic server I've tried, "server=1", "daemon=1", and both at the same time, with no luck.

- All servers are CentOS 6/7  64bit

Any idea why this would be happening?
