 With the release of ATOM, from my basement office ;-), I am running giveaways/bounties/challenges. This is your chance to grab a big share of coins. This challenge is simple. so its a totally cpu-coin?
Yes, although there is a GPU miner available called Smelter that some people have used with Quark-based coins with success. |

Is there any big difference between Molecule and Frozen?
As I see it, they are both Quark copies without the early miner bias. They have similar difficulties too (2000 and 3000) so both are pretty popular.
Anything I am missing here?
I watch @ every CPU coin that pops out. There is a difference between those coins. MOL was fail-launched and this coin was supposed to be premined. But dev failed at it, so he probably won't put much effort into further development. And if there was one unexpected fork we may see another after some update. I don't see any future here. Frozen feels much stronger to me, it has its community and people eager to buy Fz now. I think this coin will hit an exchange in a matter of days/weeks. I personally have chosen this one over all available CPU coins. Molecule is going strong. We are now almost to 6500 downloads of the wallet, with a lot of interest in the coin from China. There will be a patch release to add checkpoints sometime soon, I'll probably wait another week just to let things continue to settle out. I'm continuing to build out the social media presence behind the scenes. It takes time and is something that evolves over months as opposed to days. Thanks! |

The source code for coins is out there... everyone is free to create their own coin in the way they think it should be done based on their own ideas.
Which means premine. Good luck with the coin. No. Read what he said again. As far as I can tell he didn't make any mention of HIS coins source code being available. The source code for Atom has not been pushed to github yet. It will be pushed to github when the rest of the release is posted. Thanks again for all the great interest!  |

The coin drops tomorrow night 12/21 at midnight EST. I chose the time mainly for my own convenience as I still have some Christmas stuff to wrap up. Sorry if it is inconvenient for anyone. Judging by the amount of mining going on with Molecule I'd say it is far from worthless. Molecule and Atom will live on side by side as two separate, independent coins.
Will Atom use the prefork balances? How do you plan to handle that or are you starting from scratch. Starting from scratch, as I made some changes to the coin parameters to differentiate it and make it more competitive. Atom will be dropped Dec 21 @ 12 am. |

I sold half and decided to keep half for fun. Not everything in life is about fiat currency right... I look at DOGE the way I look at ski ball tickets :-)

Note that DigitalOcean Ubuntu's have no firewall rules and are wide open by default... it complicates the guide but after spinning up the VPS I would go follow one of the tut's to setup iptables to allow the MOL and ssh traffic and drop everything else.

If you folks want to post some of your nodes IP's, I will add an addnodes list to the main post. We have a ton of users in China, which may be contributing to some of the sync lag. If we could get a geographically dispersed set of IP's it would probably help. The two primary seeds are running on VPSs.

Just a quick update: We're almost to 4,000 wallet downloads now, with over 600 today. That's awesome. Quark will inflate at 1% per year. Molecule has a capped max money and will not inflate. * Smaller total coins than QRK, at 200M as opposed to ~247M. * No pre-mined coins * PoW algorithm that doesn't favor ASICs or GPUs * Way cool branding :-) |

so... when exactly are the coins going to be "given away" ? I assumed it would be within 24 hours but it's been a few days now and I don't see them in this wallet I downloaded.  This weekend 21st or 22nd. More details as we get closer. Thanks! |

The giveaway will be honored once ATOM is released sometime this coming weekend. I am taking it nice and slow and testing everything before dropping it. You can continue to post in the giveaway thread if you want to claim your spot in line. When ATOM is released you will need to download the new client and go back and edit your post with your new address. The giveaway is going to be expanded. ;-)
Molecule is worth mining on its own in its own right although you will probably want to join a pool.
I am trying to keep up and catch up with PM's/posts etc. while working on the software... so if I'm quiet I haven't disappeared, I'm just heads down getting everything tidied up and ready to go.

Edit: I'm thinking now that it could have been an unexpected and succesful 51% attack on the coin from the users who downloaded the fixed client, deleted the old blockchain and began mining from the first block.
This is exactly what happened. It could have been corrected - but at that point, why bother? It provided a convenient way out from under the "premine" controversy and was extremely fair. |
