What will happen to the coins that were deposited by Multiple users.
will Brainwallet open after some Time or it has turned into Scam?
I see i am able to log in..
should i remove my coins from there?

EDIT: I am unable to log-in Now.
What do you mean by Empty String?

Yes, it was announced before DefCon that they would be hacking brain wallets and advised everyone to get their coins out of their brainwallets.

Even if you think you're super smart in your pass phrase, it can be hacked easier than a private key.

Nxt wallets often use pass phrases and there have been a significant number of coins stolen by automated bots that crack weak pass phrases.

I didn't expect something similar to happen to Bitcoin wallets. Now a way to crack brain wallets with weak pass phrases has been devised there will be an army of bots attempting to crack them. People on summer holidays might only find out about this when they get back and find their Bitcoins were stolen before they had a chance to move them.

I see my bitcoin net worth go up/down ~$3K for every $10 btc price swing.  Doesn't faze me a bit, but the silly n00bs who are afraid to HODL a single btc and are just looking to make a few bucks to buy the latest cheap trinket (that they'll forget about in 6 months) would be freaking out.  They are the true weak hands.

And I'm still buying when I can, without any fear.

To create real wealth, you must have a long term vision and balls of steel.

Oh please, spare us the bs. Your a bigger bag holder than Inca!!!  What did you buy at? 500? 600?   Grin Grin Grin

That's only around 100 btc -  it's not so much.

I don't think a 10 dollar swing would put you +\- 3k with 100 btc.

You would need 300 Bitcoins for that.

$10 x 300 = $3000

If he has 300 Bitcoins they must be worth approximately 300 x $285, which is $85500. That's quite a substantial sum to invest in Bitcoins at today's prices, and would be even higher at 2013 bubble prices! I wish I had that many Bitcoins.

Quote from: Satoshi Nakamoto
At first, most users would run network nodes, but as the
network grows beyond a certain point, it would be left more and more to
specialists with server farms of specialized hardware.

http://www.mail-archive.com/cryptography@metzdowd.com/msg09964.html

So he planned this?!  He knew all along about the inevitability of sinister mining cabals??!! Sad

He never envisioned mining pools, he only envisioned server farms of specialized hardware doing the mining. It's all in the paper he wrote when he released Bitcoin. You can download his paper here.

https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf

It's been edited slightly since the first version but it's basically the same paper.
84  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Karpeles finally getting some Japanese style justice - hang 'em high on: July 31, 2015, 03:29:08 PM
So the story is he might be arrested soon, but hasn't been arrested yet?

Why would the Japanese police announce he's going to be arrested before arresting him? That would give him the opportunity to flee the country and head for Outer Mongolia, or somewhere else out of their reach.

He must have the money to charter a private plane or helicopter to fly him out unnoticed from some obscure airport.
85  Economy / Economics / Re: Iceland Recovering Fast in Europe After Jailing Bankers Instead of Bailing Them on: July 08, 2015, 10:16:38 PM
I don't think it was as simple as that. Because the banks were not bailed out, many people lost their savings. The majority of the savers were not living in Iceland. So in effect, the money that the banks owed (to those savers) was already invested in Icelandic properties and Icelandic companies but those investments were paid for by other non-Icelandic Europeans.

I remember small government authorities in other countries had invested in Iceland's banks, and lost a fortune of tax payers money they had invested. They had to make brutal cuts to public services to write their losses off, and whole communities had to suffer. Iceland might have done alright by letting their banks go bankrupt but communities in other countries were hit hard by it.

RSI double top spotted @finex 1day

We're probably going to see a correction to the $259 support level.

I'm not a proper trader and only have a basic understanding of a double top. I spotted one today and the price tanked, but I have spotted them before and the price went up. How often do they precede a drop in price? It's obviously not 100% of the time, so what kind of percentage accuracy do they have?

I assume they have better accuracy when compared to the Relative Strength Index?
87  Economy / Economics / Re: Greece timetable before Sunday on: July 08, 2015, 05:10:38 PM
Now what? Greece is finally out of Eurozone. Since everyone has gone for a no. But is it gonna benefit Greeks in long term ? Even if they downgrade to their old currency , will they be able to prove their stance in the global market? Right now ,it is very unlikely, but then you need to look at the brighter side. Now they are free from the conditions of creditors, they can  look for a fresh start.

They always submit everything late. I think they will submit their proposals a day after the Thursday deadline, and they will still be accepted because they are now talking about reforming pensions. There is always a tight timetable that Greece never sticks to. Last Sunday was supposed to be too late to submit any proposals and now they have until tomorrow, or the day after.
88  Economy / Economics / Re: NY Stock Exchange brought to a HALT on: July 08, 2015, 04:50:52 PM
Technical difficulties my a**. It's clearly the fear.
China is falling, Europe is falling,.. not a great day for trading..... unless you trade Bitcoin, of course  Grin

Greece has said it intends to start pension and tax reforms by next week at the latest if it gets more money from the EU. If Greece's new proposal gets accepted then Europe might not fall after all. The pension reforms was one of Greece's red lines and crossing might convince the EU to give them the money.
89  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Stress Tests", Spammers, Attacks: Burning My Butt. Very Bad. on: July 08, 2015, 03:40:44 PM
Stop the damn stress tests I say. I'd like to move money around like it used to be, with low fees and fast confirmations.

End the madness!!

I wish that telling them to stop is easy. This is not a stress test, people. This is an attack. If this is a stress testing, some people will claim that they are behind this, seeing whether the network could sustain this spams until it wouldn't work anymore to come up with a possible solution. Turns out, it isn't. People who posted that we've reached the peak of transactions don't understand what really is happening.

I think it's looking like an attack the longer it goes on. KingAfurah, the person who started the stress testing, said he wanted to study what effect increasing the mempool size to >150MB was in one of his last posts. He's been silent for over a week, but i think it's him doing the spamming.

So what's the point of this now that you know it won't actually delay legit transactions?

The point is to study the effects of a mempool size of >150MB which was never reached so far.

90  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Stress Tests", Spammers, Attacks: Burning My Butt. Very Bad. on: July 08, 2015, 03:19:09 PM
Can someone give me a headsup?
Is it still going on?
Looking at https://blockchain.info/unconfirmed-transactions there is still a backlog of 16 MB.
at https://tradeblock.com/blockchain it is even 49 MB.

Yes I think it's still going on. I checked the amount of unconfirmed transactions on blockchain.info hours ago and it was over 15000. Now it's almost 20000. Someone has to be spamming the network for the unconfirmed transactions to increase that quickly. I've been waiting for a transaction to be confirmed for 20 hours now, and I've not had one confirmation yet.
91  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 08, 2015, 02:24:11 PM
Chinese exchanges done goofed?
OKcoin and Huobi at the same time ? It got to 1734 (278.59 USD) on OK and then froze? WTF is goin on?
Meanwhile finex drops hard.
indeed, what's up??

The finex dump might be related to the news that Greece has said they will start pension and tax reform by next week if they can have more money from the EU. You can read the whole letter they sent to the EU at the link below the quote. They have refused to discuss pension reform until now so it makes it look like they they might yet do a deal to stay in the EU. Everyone's speculating the Bitcoin price has been rising on fears of a Grexit and this new offer from Greece might prevent one. That might be why people started dumping.

next week including:

• Tax reform related measures

@LFC_Bitcoin @JayJuanGee

Even Masterluc in the "Analysis never ends" thread expects $45k in about 7-8 years. Adam is sooo conservative.

I never thought I would hear anyone calling Adam a bear troll for spreading FUD about how Bitcoin won't go up 166x in 7 to 8 years. Next someone will be calling sgtbet a bear troll for saying it will only reach half a million dollars before the end of the year, and sgtbet will be calling bitpump a bear troll for only expecting 50K by next Christmas.
93  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are we stress testing again? on: July 08, 2015, 09:49:35 AM
Just did a couple of transactions from MyCelium wallet and selected 'Priority' for the miner fee, which is still pretty low or almost nothing percentage wise, and all transactions were confirmed within 20 odd minutes.

As a test did another and selected 'Economic' for the miner fee which is the lowest you can set it on MyCelium and the transaction has been hanging for almost an hour now and on BlockInfo states that it will be included within next 6 blocks so maybe another hour.

I had something sent to me in a transaction 14 hours ago and it still isn't confirmed. There were over 16000 unconfirmed transactions when I checked 10 minutes ago. I thought the stress test was only going to last a day but it feels like it's been running longer this time. That makes it feel more like an attack on the network than a network test.

Seems the first attack on the 265-70 resistance failed. But the price is holding pretty good so far. Let's see if 250 can be held, then the prospects for July are great ...

Nevertheless, I voted for a July top of less than 300. I think it will reach again the levels of about 270, and maybe a little higher, but not much more. Black swan events not taken into account Wink

The Mt Gox court case will conclude sometime and either the Bitcoins get returned or the court orders them to be sold so cash can be returned instead. I doubt it will be over by the end of July but if the court orders a crazy dump it will crash the price. I think they have some rule in Japan that you have to sell an asset and return cash.

You think a court is going to order the coins to be sold on some sketchy exchange? An auction seems more likely.

I don't know what the court will decide. All I know is according to this site Japanese law has always forced  bankruptcy settlements to be paid in cash. However, there is a rule that if a committee of the majority of creditors is recognized by the court it might be able to demand payment in Bitcoins, but it would be the first time its ever happened.

https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/mt-gox-creditors-demand-payment-bitcoins/

Quote
In Japan, all settlements in bankruptcy proceedings have always been in cash and any settlement approved for payment in a cryptocurrency would be a first, a landmark........

Daniel Kelman, a US Layer, resident in Taiwan, today informed the notified trustee to the Mt Gox bankruptcy, Nobuaki Kobayashi, of his intention to form a 'rebel group' of creditors seeking to receive their payments in the form of bitcoins.....

McLannahan explains that under Japanese law, a committee representing more than half of creditors has the power to “participate” in proceedings, so long as it satisfies certain conditions and is recognized by the court as representing the interests of creditors as a whole.

The context of the original post I addressed was about black swan events. The Japanese court ordering the Bitcoins to be sold on exchanges could be considered a black swan event. It would be unexpected, but not impossible.
95  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is holding Bitcoin back? on: July 02, 2015, 09:36:27 AM
Satoshi holding a million Bitcoins isn't doing Bitcoin any favors. Newcomers finding that out will be hesitant to invest money because they will question what will happen if he dumps. That million Bitcoins is holding Bitcoin back in all sorts of ways even if Satoshi never dumps a single coin.

97  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcoin and Porn on: June 15, 2015, 01:01:54 PM
Like satoshi said, it's good to use bitcoin for porn, if you do not want your wife , to discover it

Obviously, he never met my wife. She can't browse facebook without asking me for support, but when she's searching for something i did wrong, she's suddenly a forensic computer expert with 16 years experience in hunting down the smallest trace...

I think most wives find out everything their husbands get up to. Using Bitcoin won't stop them discovering if you use porn and when they discover it they will probably confiscate all your Bitcoins as a punishment. Most wives have kids, and kids often know more about computers than professional programmers. They will get their kids to do their dirty work for them.

I notice the big difference between the Bitstamp price and the prices on the other two exchanges has been ironed out. As soon as the banks opened this morning people must have started sending money to buy the cheap Bitstamp coins for arbitrage.
99  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 05, 2015, 05:50:30 PM
I think the spirit behind BTCChina and Huobi's caution is summed up well in the following quote.

Quote
Speaking to CoinTelegraph, both BTCChina as well as Huobi indicated that they believe any increase in Bitcoin's block size limit should be approached conservatively

Their opinion cannot be ignored by the core devs, but neither can the western exchange's opinions. Has Bitstamp or any of the other western exchanges voiced an opinion yet?
100  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Any UK banks allow trading of Bitcoin? on: June 05, 2015, 05:41:19 PM
......

Fidor are setting up a UK branch. It seems to be personal banking only here. They're fully crypto friendly in the EU. I imagine they'll be a lot less so in the UK as none of the other banks will want to play with them. It's a pathetic situation.

No one can break away from the herd because there's too much of a stranglehold by the big players.

Fidor Bank's UK launch has been delayed by the big four banks (Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds and RBS). They refused to be a sponsor bank for Fidor to give it direct access to payments systems. They haven't said why they refused, although it could be because Fidor intends to be crypto friendly.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/banksandfinance/11513405/UK-launch-of-digital-bank-Fidor-hamstrung-by-payments-providers.html

The Payment Systems Regulator (PSR) has started a review of the limited access available to the UK’s infrastructure, but it only expects to deliver its finding in 12 months.
