I really thought your take on it was great and I think the waver in your voice was a) fine as is and b) will go away with very little experience.   You should make some of these.

Thanks!

So, just curious...How many of these spots will run in three months?  And what is the estimated number of listeners per spot?

I think its two episodes per week, with a listener base of 10000.

Ok so i decided to write something really quick as a submission for this commercial on lets lets talk bitcoin.

this is a super super super rough draft.

Got a minute for whats next? Written from the ground up with brand new source code in an entirely different programming language, nxt is the first truly second generation crypto. It's 100% proof of stake security model melds short term deterministic predictability with longer term uncertainty to open the floodgates and release a torrent of potential breakthrough innovations to the cryptospace. Foremost among these, the ability to predict future forging nodes allows those nodes to build trust within the community. This trust can be leveraged for things like instantly secure transactions if the merchant accepting the nxt trusts the next several nodes in line. Or visa level transaction load volume via nodes clearing transactions before recording them into the blockchain. Nxt's 100% proof of stake security model eliminates many of the costs associated with blockchain security that are, with bitcoin, presently born by the savers in the form of inflation. Finally unlike bitcoin and its limited time block subsidy, there is no arbitrary date far off in the future where nxt's security model will be put to the final test, if nxt works now, it will work always. Tune in next week where we address some of the legitimate criticisms as well as some of the myths associated with nxt.

what do you guys think. do you like the direction? i know its a little over the limit but thats good because the first step in revision is trimming the fat.
I think the number one goal should be to get them curious enough to go to the website/wiki. Tantalize them and then give them the resources to delve deeper.

I 100% agree with this. my thought is that a claim + an argument that flies past them is better than a claim with no argument what so ever. I really think that we have to rethink marketing when trying to talk to this community. they are much much much smarter than the marginal citizen.

Ok, then I suggest starting with the required strong intro with catch phrase and the necessary ending with website link, and then see how much you can fit in between them, paying attention to the tough time limit restrictions. mindtomatter suggested something like 65-75 words in total, and we are already dealing with much more than that.

The challenge with this is that people won't have time to think about the technicalities. Unless they're giving it 110% of their concentration, the minute will fly by and they won't retain anything, so I suggest a really simple message with a couple memorable points is necessary, which is what I was trying to do with my submission. I think the number one goal should be to get them curious enough to go to the website/wiki. Tantalize them and then give them the resources to delve deeper. There's no way we can download everything to their minds in a minute. Also, as mindtomatter stressed, a simple, short catch-phrase that can be used each week to quickly define Nxt is necessary. Here's the text of my submission. Feel free to appropriate/edit:

Got a minute for what's Nxt?

This is (insert name), bringing you "The Nxt Minute" - dedicated to Nxt, the first available 2nd generation cryptocurrency. For those who are just being introduced, Nxt is a fresh start, using entirely new source code that benefits from the successes of Bitcoin and opens the door to a new realm of possibility in network speed, transaction volume and long-term sustainability.

Nxt is a rapidly evolving community-led endeavor, and is the first 100% Proof-of-Stake cryptocurrency and platform. Advanced decentralized features, like an alias system, an asset exchange, data transmission and voting are included, but the really big innovation is something called "Transparent Forging". If you're curious, head on over to nxtcrypto.org (that is  n x t  c r y p t o .org) and get acquainted!

Stay tuned for future updates, as we share what’s new with Nxt, in one-minute bites, for the next several months.

*edit* As I discovered while recording, this is already pushing it in terms of length. So it absolutely can't be longer than this.

Hi everyone.

How about these for a couple of proofs of concept?  Two one-minute spots I recorded this evening:

General Nxt intro: https://soundcloud.com/whatsupnxt/nxtminute-0001
Nxt minute: https://soundcloud.com/whatsupnxt/nxtminute_0002

I welcome feedback.

Here's my take on the one minute spot, using joefox's example as inspiration, and trying to take into consideration all the feedback that was given:

Nxt LTB Spot, Episode 1: https://soundcloud.com/bithic/nxtltbspot-ep1

Anymore feedback on this? Please give feedback on the content as well as my reading. Criticisms welcome, my ego is not wrapped up in this. I'm not trying to compete to be the voice, just putting forward an idea. This should be considered a rough draft.

At some points you can here a tiny tremble in your voice, you need to do more of these to practice and be more relaxed Wink

I hear it. I can always rerecord if we decide to use my voice.

Any other suggestions for creative commons music? That was The Arrival by General Fuzz:

I'm going to bed now, I'll check for feedback in the morning.

Good stuff. Week two is great. Week one has good content, but it sounds like a corporate advertisement. I think it needs to communicate the exciting community-driven nature of it somehow. It should make people feel like they want to get in on what's happening. I think it would benefit from a slightly more conversational tone too. Can you post the text, or send it to me?
90  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 27, 2014, 03:08:46 AM
you'll want to pick out some music (I can help with that) and leave a little space on either side to allow for the fade in and out.

What kind of license do we need on the music?
91  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 27, 2014, 02:30:30 AM
Or joefox could be "the voice", which might be really good because it will introduce him (and his show) to listeners of LTB.
92  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 27, 2014, 02:25:53 AM

For the minute spots maybe we're overthinking this, maybe it should really just be the NXT Minute on LTB, and twice a week listeners of LTB get updated to the most important thing "This is the NXT Minute, this week saw the release of the new client that does blah blah blah" you have enough room for about 65-72 words in a minute of human speech, you'll want to pick out some music (I can help with that) and leave a little space on either side to allow for the fade in and out.

I love this idea.

Would someone be willing to take up that task?   I think the NXT minute with occasional experiential spots shared by members of the NXT community would go over really well.  Then you could have something that would always be different, always be useful and informative, and whenever a really good community submission comes up you just run that instead of the update.  You get the best of both worlds, informational, timely and cheap while community spots provide the emotional and real world context.   It would probably be good to have people write these and then have them voiced by members of the community who are a) good at that, and b) have good mics, it makes a big difference.

I have very good recording equipment. My voice isn't a classic radio voice, but I can send a sample recording of me reading something to everyone who's involved in organizing this or whoever is interested to see what you think. I'll do this tonight. Who should I send it to?: mindtomatter, joefox, salsacz... anyone else?
93  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 27, 2014, 01:55:19 AM
Find a community member with a good "radio voice". Write up a paragraph introducing Nxt and covering one major feature. Mention the best informational resource (Nxt wiki?) at the end for them to lookup info and see what it's all about. Have him record it. There's your ad spot. Mention your Nxt resource at the end of every ad. Next ad spot, quick recap of what nxt is and cover another major feature, etc, etc. Make it like a series style thing. Then when you're all caught up with the existing features, cover some soon to be implemented features. The big important stuff. Having the one voice for all ads is important. It's builds familiarity and comfort (as long as its nice voice to listen to and not screech, lol). They recognize it right away and associate it with Nxt so you have them primed. You could use these recordings you've requested as castings to pick the right person. Just my thoughts on it.

Good ideas.
94  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 27, 2014, 01:54:05 AM

We are simultaneously building a podcast for all things Nxt, and there is a possibility that full segments from that cased could be featured on the "Beyond Bitcoin" podcast that the LTB team is hoping to launch.

Great!

Quotable?:

It's really interesting watching this community - you guys are the only "headless" metalayer, lacking a founder or team and yet delivering with real working software.

Keep up the good work Smiley
96  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 27, 2014, 01:28:19 AM

FOR EXAMPLE:  "This is Come-from-Beyonce, from Belarus.  Nxt is so energy efficient that I can forge coins on a $35 Raspberry Pi computer powered by a solar panel!"

I'll be collecting these recordings and compiling them into a series of 1-minute spots to promote Nxt.  Keep your answers short by focusing each one on a Nxt feature that that is important to YOU.

A compilation like this will definitely come across as an advertisement, which might be ok for the first couple spots, but it will get old quickly. I think it would be good to transition to more of a "news update" feel once Nxt has been sufficiently introduced, so listeners feel like they're being included in the community by being given valuable information on what is happening and what to expect. If we assume the listeners already love Nxt, and treat them as if they do, then they're more likely to love Nxt!
97  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 27, 2014, 01:20:35 AM
Really good advice from Let's Talk Bitcoin about content for the 1 minute spots:

With a minute spot, I would suggest getting a couple of different people to read different spots.  You could have somebody doing mythbusting spots but I think it would be better to instead focus on the really cool features built into next and helping people imagine the reasons why they would actually want to use it.  People are very creative once you point them in the right direction, but the metacoin layer thing is a tough sell at first.     If you focus on the negative stuff people think about NXT, you come off as defensive but if you just talk about why your project is neat and why you're excited about it, that will attract more attention because people think its a good thing not a bad thing.

The perspective YOU bring, going into talk to people about NXT will be reflected in how they react.  If you think they'll hate it, they're probably going to hate it because you'll couch your words in such a way to make them prepare to hate it.

You guys don't need to be defensive, you have a major advantage - a product that's out, and that seems to work with a development team that doens't have the legal liability of your competitors or some of the jurisdictional risk.   Your disadvantage is NXT appears to be a bit headless, with a few self-appointed organizers but no real structure besides stakeholders acting in what they feel is their own best interest.   It might be interesting talking about that, how NXT is a *real* decentralized org in that there is no formal company at all doing the development or paying for anything.

So are we forking badly or not?

noob question but what happens when it forks???

Every fork of a network is effectively a new network itself. If you get stuck on a new fork/network then the coins you have are newNXT coins, as opposed to originalNXT coins. And they are not usable on the main NXT network. So they are almost useless.

situation A)
- I have money in my account
- I will not update and start new bad fork
- nobody will send me NXT coins
- I will fix situation and update
- are my old NXT ok?

situation B)
- the same as A, however somebody sent me NXT during my bad fork
- will be useless only money received during my bad fork?
- money I had before bad fork are ok?

bad fork ... useless money??

Is that planned feature?

I'd have thought that new versions are backwards compatible (at least in the code is e.g. block.version ...)

I'm not one of the developers, but my understanding is that if you are on a fork it is true that your account balance on that fork will be useless on the main blockchain. However, your original account still exists on the main blockchain in whatever state it was in before you forked. Any coins sent to your account on the main blockchain will still be received by it. Any transaction you do while on the fork will not be recognized by the main blockchain. Once you get back to the main blockchain you will see your account in exactly the same state it was in before you forked (unless it had received incoming transactions on the main blockchain while you were away, in which case those will show up).

So not really a huge risk for the average user, more just annoying and confusing until you get it sorted out. You might need to kill your client, delete it, delete your blockchain record and download the new client + real blockchain afresh.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

There will be also 4 new shows, but I wouldn't like to spend too much NXT. If we wanted to be in all 5 shows for 6 months, it would cost 1.3 mega NXT.

I am for: 1 minute long ad (=sponsor spot) at one show for 3 months for 270k NXT. Or: 500k NXT for 6 months.
(maybe we could add one more show..)

I think the most important show to get on would be Lets Talk Bitcoin. It's also the one that will fill up the fastest. We might have more time to decide whether we want ads on the other shows.

I think this merits dipping into the marketing fund, but if big stakeholders want to contribute, even better!
100  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 26, 2014, 07:04:26 AM
I would say these sponsor spots wouldn't be about selling, more about sharing interesting tidbits or features with our cryptocurrency and new-things interested audience so they look further into NXT and become members of your community.  We are currently booking out sponsors on LTB for the next six months and anticipate having all spots filled within the next two weeks.  We've approached Mastercoin, and will be speaking to Bitshares and Ethereum next week with the same offer we presented to NXT, but we only have room for 1-2 projects to take us up on it.  Right now everyone but the NXT crew are occupied with Miami, so you guys actually have a time advantage until monday.

Sounds like a good opportunity, especially if we can nail down some slots for later in the year when big developments will be happening. Having them all in the next month might be wasted. We should move on this quick if we don't want to miss out on the limited availability.
