81  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Controversial Backpage.com Warmly Welcomes Bitcoin on: July 20, 2015, 10:35:07 AM
the question is, can they maintain the same profit with bitcoin only, as accepted payment in comparison with their old visa mastercard?

if this prove to be true than bitcoin will be adopted more from other company that are looking for a real alternative otherwise you can't really talk about a successful

I think it doesn't matter if they will have the same profit as before because they did not have a chance at all to go another route. They were blocked from other payment services so the only solution for them were cryptocoins.

But it surely will be interesting to watch their profit. It might show how adoption moves. Though bitcoiners, who now will use the site, might change the results.
82  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It truely begins on: July 20, 2015, 10:20:34 AM
I dont see this as being good news, we all know that backpage is mainly used for prostitutes, yes i have no problem with bitcoins and prostitutes, I do have a problem with the fact that backpage is known for having under aged prostitutes listed, if anything happens and bitcoin was used, it would further taint the bad reputation we have

You are right about the bad press. But it's not Bitcoins fault the same way it's not the fault of fiat that it gets used by drug dealers and addicted persons. They use fiat because it has an advantage. So you can't really blame bitcoin for being used for illegal things too. It's simply a misuse that has to stopped but not a problem of the payment system.
83  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Every 3 days a block will take more than 1 hour to solve. Can anything be done? on: July 20, 2015, 10:10:01 AM
Why is this a problem, exactly?

It's not a huge problem now but imagine (maybe somewhat in the future) you paid for something in a shop of a significant value (say $100) in bitcoin and the vendor required one confirmation for payment to be accepted. Waiting 10 minutes wouldn't be a problem  but 1 hour or more would start to be really inconvenient. You could also find that so many transactions had built up during that hour that your transaction would be delayed by a block or two (even with a miners fee).

If bitcoin wants to replace existing payment structures then we want to think of ways we can avoid these delays even if they are occasional.

3 days ago there were 2 long waits within a 2 hour period

I agree with you. When you pay with a bank card then the merchant instantly knows the payment is safe. It's not the same with bitcoins unfortunately.

Sure, merchants might sell on zero confirmations but it sounds like a risk when the network is spammed and someone sends a zero fee transaction.

And i was in the situation that i sold something and waited with the seller for a confirmation. It's no fun. Especially when the seller needs to get his train or something.

If possible, a solution here would be nice.
84  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are we stress testing again? on: July 19, 2015, 07:24:06 PM
i have emit (this day !) a transaction with 0,0001 BTC of fees, no problem ... no delay.

That was already a considerably high fee. The minimum fee would be 1 decimal more. So 0.00001 Bitcoin.

Though it looks the spamming of the network stopped finally.
85  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BBC suggest bitcoin as "lesser of two evils" on: July 19, 2015, 06:17:40 PM
If I was Greek today, I withdraw all my money from the bank and how one can not keep at home would probably turn everything into bitcoins because despite being a volatile currency and euro and dollar and other , and the difference besides the high value volatility , can not you buy some goods only with bitcoins ... which is achieved with the fiat the leading cause of discomfort , but at least know that my money is appreciated or depreciated and know where and how to convert according to needs , banking system in greece as well as in all countries showed their vulnerability , a deep crisis and banks hold their money , bitcoins on the other hand can be redeemed at any time and converted on any day.

86  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Cloudmining VS Investments(trading) on: July 19, 2015, 06:09:59 PM
we all know for a fact mining is not profitable why are this mining companies still around, how are they still making profit and why are people putting money into this.

It's because there are always noobs that don't know about the difficulty. These noobs buy highly expensive miners or bitcoins on ebay too. They see how much they can earn with mining in the next week on actual difficulty and often think that will proceed the way in the future. Then they buy contracts and learn eventually that their real profit will be way less than their investment, most of the time.
87  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN BUYING AN ACCOUNT on: July 19, 2015, 05:57:24 PM
But what happen if the seller take back his account by proving the ownership of old address after sell the account to someone? Is it still possible right?

Please respond, I'm curious about this one.

No need to worry if the buyer have signed message from the seller when buying accounts, that would serve as proof of account transfer and he cant claim it back

Well when you buy an account you ask the seller to sign a message that that account is sold to you, and you must keep this message for future, so you are protected. - my opinion

its not just your opinion, i agree with it as well. by stating in the signed message that the account will be sold to you, the seller can no longer claim the account back as theirs using a signed message.

Quick question about signed messages: Now, from what I understand, for a signed message to be valid, it must have been fron an address associated to the account from a post or something at some point. If a person were to purchase an account, and then decide to resell it for whatever reason, how could he legitimately prove ownership without having access to an address that has been associated with the account for an extended period of time?

The buyer can't proof that he is the legitimate buyer except he got a signature from seller that says that the previous owner sold the account to him. The new owner should have posted a bitcoin address so that he can proof, with another signature, that he held the account since then.

When selling an account then the message should contain the date of sale, the account to be sold and the buyer who bought it.
88  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ANN] KRAKEN.COM - Exchange Now Open with USD, EUR, BTC, LTC, XRP, NMC, XDG on: July 19, 2015, 05:54:07 PM
https://www.reddit.com/r/BitcoinMarkets/comments/3dnpmn/ann_kraken_reduces_fees_and_moves_to_makertaker/

Looks like a great idea. All of this is a little over my head but it I'm sure the market-makers will be happy. Keep it up, Kraken!

A maker taker market means that there are different fees for orders that get filled. For example someone comes in and wants to buy or sell something instantly. He then orders and pays the shares that are offered or sell to the buyers that want to buy shares. Because he instantly gets what he wants he has to pay a higher "taker" fee. The one who buys from him would only pay a lower "maker" fee, because he made the offer in the orderbook that the "taker" took.

Exchanges want to have many offers in their orderbook to have a better price discovery. Thats why maker and taker are paid differently.
89  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Do you think http://www.btcadder.com/ is scam? on: July 19, 2015, 05:24:27 PM
Hello everyone
Do you think http://crocobitco.in/ is scam?

It looks like a faucet. As far as i know most of them are legit. You don't need to invest anything on these websites though you can earny very little with them too.

I think there is no risk checking them out as long as you don't have to pay something. The worst you can lose is some time when they don't pay out at the end.
90  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Best Bitcoin/Litecoin Charting Software/Webpage on: July 18, 2015, 09:37:39 PM
Simple question;

I'm looking for some good charting software/ webpage for bitcoin as well as litecoin.  Huh  < Something like this--> freestockcharts(dot)com >

Any suggestions..??
Also, any apps for Android that have good charts would be nice too!

Thanks for any replies!!

There's nothing better than tradingview.com. They have trading data for a lot of markets, coins and even bitcoin futures and a lot of indicators. The elliot wave one is broken though.

Besides that you can create or use custom indicators, which is great.

It's a free service for up to 5 charts you use.
91  Economy / Investor-based games / Re: Is BTCFlex.com has a established Reputation Already? on: July 18, 2015, 09:33:10 PM
some one has opened thread earlier saying his deposit was not added and later he said deposit added and looks ok. I'm not invested in this site.

Be cautious. It's a common tactic of these scammers to use other accounts they control and own to write reviews, as if they are another user that tried the website and had success with it.

Don't trust these reviews. As long as no established member claims its a good investment you should assume that it's simply a scam.
92  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: RESEARCH - Target clients of Bitcoin? on: July 18, 2015, 09:27:45 PM
Not to forget that bitcoin tech is slowly recognized as a great tech with a big future. Banks and entrepreneurs start to build things on the blockchain more and more. And investors help them.

Saying that, bitcoin is now an area of high risk investments but great possible returns too, some kind of top of the development of fintech.

So everything developed in there might bring big new usergroups to bitcoin. And target clients i would say are high risk investors and inventors too.

Backpage.com lately was thrown out by creditcard companies. They now use bitcoin. There you have your users. Tongue

95  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: safe to delete wallet.dat file after keys stored? on: July 08, 2015, 10:55:19 AM
Be aware that if you have ever sent any bitcoin transactions from your Bitcoin Core wallet, then the wallet created hidden addresses that it didn't tell you about, and stored some of your bitcoins in those new hidden addresses.

If you want access to all of your bitcoins in the future, you will need ALL of your private keys (including the keys for the hidden addresses).

Every time you send a new transaction, the wallet will create another hidden address with another hidden private key.  Therefore, if you write down ALL your private keys, and then send a transaction after that, you will no longer have ALL the private keys.

You mean you need the private keys to all addresses that contain bitcoins. Otherwise they are lost.

But shouldn't a backup of the private keys create private keys for the change addresses too? If not then this sounds like a security risk.
96  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN BUYING AN ACCOUNT on: July 08, 2015, 10:41:24 AM
I wanna buy an account and i wanna knw the kind of things i should watch out for when im buying a membership account on this forum

I would say the following points are important:

* Use an escrow even for low amounts <$10. There are scammers that scam for less.
* For expensive accounts ask for a proof of ownership, like a signed message for a bitcoin address that was posted by the account
* Check the activity and the potential activity
* Ask for trust rating. Don't forget trust ratings not in default trust.
* Ask for bans in signature campaigns.
* Ask if the account got accusations against him in threads or so
* Ask if the account was banned from forum before
* Ask about post quality, though that is not so important
* Ask about where the posts happened, that's not so important too though.

You can let the escrow verify these things since a sane seller would not give out the profile link. It would be too risky.
97  Economy / Auctions / Re: Domain name: DomainHunters.org on auction!! on: July 05, 2015, 09:31:47 PM
... Did you want to start with the same script and content on a new domain?
Yes, as I have many nice domain names and I wanted to sell this one and to start working on a new one. Simple Smiley
However I will make the other type of new website with other script so this one will not be used by me anymore after all sold.

So you did not want to reuse the content and script. In that case i think you simply would have wasted a lot of your work. You could have sold the domain only when no one would have want to buy but normally buyers are more interested in a website that already has some traffic. Which would not be the case when the content would be missing.
98  Economy / Auctions / Re: Domain name: DomainHunters.org on auction!! on: July 04, 2015, 04:09:45 PM
Glad you reconsidered your offer. I really do not understand why you wanted to go the content go to waste. Did you want to start with the same script and content on a new domain?
99  Economy / Auctions / Re: Domain name: DomainHunters.org on auction!! on: July 03, 2015, 10:53:45 AM
I'm only wondering why you sell the domain by naming the website as selling point. When you break the connection to the old content then search engines will know the website is new and all the seo dies. You only can prevent that when you present the same links and a so similar content that the algo keeps the weighting.

It's up to you how you sell it. I only think it doesn't matter much which website was on there before and how many visitors they had when the website isn't sold with it. Of course, when one really would create a new website with the same niche, and doesn't let the backlinks run into deadends, then some of the seo will make the new website profit from it. Though it would need work.

I wouldn't have said anything when the website would have been sold with it.
100  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Reputable/Trustworthy Mixers on: July 03, 2015, 10:48:03 AM
I always was wondering who is using mixers. I mean if you don't do something illegal then exchanges shared wallets should be fine enough. So should i guess that that means mixers are used by scammers and others that need to hide from the law? I mean imagining normal people using it would mean a risk to the. They might get coins from some scam and when at one point tainting will be implemented, which might be possible with bitcoin-xt, then why risking having a connecting to these people and holding coins that "potentially" could get seized when your identity is found out.

Whats the use cases for normal users?

I'm a normal user.  I'm even going to pay taxes on my BTC gains (not worth risking jail time).  I use Shared Coin so that everyone I send BTC to doesn't know my total balance.

That's perfectly fine. In fact i do the same, with an exchange with low confirmations. No one can guess my other addresses that way. So why do you pay these high fees to get back coins coming form scams maybe?

Shared Coin doesn't have any fees besides the miner's fee.  But it's been down again for almost a week now and support says there is no ETA on fixing it.

Is there an exchange that is ideal for this?

Oh, i didn't realize it's not a mixer.

I use bitfinex. They only have 2 or 3 confirmations or so. But i don't remember if they need a verification. You can use poloniex too, they don't need a verification. But when you create an account, upload coins and instantly withdraw, then the system will hold your coins. Try to buy some coins, then cancel the order and when admin asks you then claim poloniex wasn't fast enough so you bought elsewhere. I'm not sure if it works the second time without problems.

But there are ways even without verification. Though you don't sound like you do illegal things so verification is no problem.
