Karmacoin is not a religious coin. It therefore should not have religious symbols.

we have already gone over that topic... Dharma and Karma are not religious concepts in and of themselves.. they predate most of the worlds religions.

As you may read, I was referring to the symbology. Dharma is, indeed, religious.

But my point is that when designing a logo we should use something that does not already have direct meaning. If we're using something that does we would do well to make it new in some way (color, interesting design, unexpected or novel elements, etc.) As in, a new yet familiar symbol.

(Being married to a Buddhist and having gone to temples numerous times I can tell you that no Buddhist would want their symbols associated with a financial instrument. It goes against the Buddhist maxims. That is another reasons a religious symbol like a Dharma wheel or a lotus flower would be a mistake. Because it would only be attractive to those who don't really know what those symbols mean.)

you might be married to a purist who does not believe in material things but to say that all Buddhists reject the idea of linking symbols with money is completely false. There are many different schools of thought with many different positions on money. yes of course devout monks DO reject all forms of money and materialism but that has never stopped coins covered in Buddhist symbols from being created by Buddhist kingdoms and even temples.

in history there are plenty of coins with Dharma wheels, Swastikas, Lotuses, Bodhisatvas, the buddha himself.. all over them.. I even have some Buddhist temple tokens in my (real) coin collection...

I would argue that any purist (of any belief system) who does not believe in materialism would have no need for KarmaCoin at all and so would probably be one of the last people on earth to use it.

As I said in my open letter.. people are confusing Marketing Logos with Currency. they are not the same thing and it would be mindful to consider both when voting.

Karmacoin is not a religious coin. It therefore should not have religious symbols.

All of the Buddhists I have spoken with (about 4) would love to use Karmacoin. I polled some people about 3 weeks ago when I was looking for projects that could be supported by Karmacoin. They are all familiar with Bitcoin. 1 was familiar with Dogecoin.

Most Buddhists are quite modern and are as materialistic and consumerist as anyone else. I can't count how many times I've seen monks using mobiles, for example. A couple have even been involved in real estate transactions. But to put Buddhist-like symbols on money is patently offensive.

Whatever we did we should poll the potential market to see how they feel about it. (And if we're using the symbols of a religion, polling those who hold those symbols dear, so as not to offend them. That would be bad karma.)

Dear All,

when considering your vote for the KarmaCoin Logos I would invite you to be mindful of the following:

KarmaCoin is not a company, it is a Currency and Payment system. If you have forgotten what currencies look like.. please do open your wallet and look at the level detail on both the coins and notes.
and then ask yourself the these questions... would I be comfortable using a coin with this logo for buying groceries, a car, even a house? would I be comfortable accepting money with this logo as payment for my services? would I pay school fees with it? would i pay hospital bills with it? would I donate this to my local church/temple/charity?

all these questions are important as they will tell you how useful the design is likely to be in every day life.

I completely understand and agree with people's comments that a design must be simple enough so that it is easily recognizable when minimized (ie on tabs and bottom corners of pages etc) and from far away, but at the same time, we do also need full sized elaborate designs, that actually look like money, which can go on cover pages of magazines, websites etc with enough detail to really hold peoples attention..

now with that being said.. I would like to invite you all to make your way over to Reddit and vote on whatever designs you like. After all this is a free economy and every vote counts.

thank you for your participating in the creation of better value for KarmaCoin and its community.

Sincerely here for the long haul,

Alphi. (some random guy that wandered in and thought this coin was a good idea)

When it comes to a logo, it makes no difference what it is used for. The only question is, "Will my potential market like it?". And if it's a good logo, "Will my potential market be moved by it?"

Hopefully, the logo will move (i.e., compel to action, or inspire) the greatest number of people to act, not just a small niche.

If Karmacoin is used globally then it should be globally-appealing.

If you want the coin to survive, calling people names here or elsewhere and generally being a douche is not very good for the community as a whole....Yes PoS has been around for a while but most people have very little experience with it....a simple alternative would be to just explain it nice and simple like here on the forum as most people keep asking about it and then sticky it on the first post of the thread.

I has been explained at least 100 times on this thread.  People who are too lazy to read the thread, or even back a couple pages, or do just a tiny bit of research don't deserve to be spoon fed, they deserve to be ridiculed.  Sorry its gotten quite ridiculous, the same questions ten times on every page when the answers are all right here if you bother to even read at all.

This simple answer is don't lock your wallet .. automatic POS.

If you want to lock your wallet you have to go to the console and type

walletpassphrase Yourpassphrasehere 99999 true

that has been said 100 times in this thread, it is in the console all you have to do is type help and it will tell you this again if it is too hard to remember

Why not pin it to the top of the subreddit? Along with other things that are asked 100x

The first one is like the elephant is drinking water and turns blue herself. This is the essence of "karma"

Dharma wheel logo design = Death spiral of Karmacoin

Design must be simple, ambiguous, and have 2-3 primary colors.

sub and vote for your favorite design !

Our votes have very little value compared with surveying and testing our logo designs with the general public (or our target market).

Imagine Unilever or Western Union building a new brand and asking only the IT department to choose between 3 logo designs?

Blackcoin slogan ideas:

"Money Was Made to be Black"
"The Way Money Was Meant to Be"
"Black is the New Coin"
"Don't Be a Bit. Blackcoin Instead"
"Black is the New Green"
"Money for All Occasions"

And add to that, someone could literally buy out the entire 100,000,000 supply at current prices and market cap. At 2500 satoshi that would require $2.5M USD, and there are plenty of single whales out there capable of doing it, let alone groups.

I thought there were only about 48MM coins now? (10,000 x 4759) That would be a market cap of USD $700,000 or so

Well, I was referring to after all PoW coins have been mined. But yes, you are right.

Hopefully after all coins have been mined each coin will be worth more than 2500 satoshi Cheesy

The the VOID!

Nearly reached 100 BTC 24 hour volume on MintPal Smiley

They've only been trading less than 5 hours.

Should be more traded with Blackcoin today than Mintcoin, considering it's still early.

Do you believe that Karmacoin will go somewhere? The market stale at roughly 4 sats. I'm loosing my faith. But I see a lot activities and smth unexplainable pleasant in this coin. It is more than traders instrument, it should be good things doing instrument.

I believe most everyone is waiting for the new website, which should act as a central hub of "doing good" for Karmacoin.

This should be finished shortly, I believe.

Here's one with the elephant, lotus beneath and the Karmacoin Symbol...

What do you think of just the elephant holding a coin under its feet so that it makes an "8" shape, with the word "Karmacoin" to the right of it (without anything else)?
99  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][KARM] Karmacoin - 6 Exchanges - Rewards about to change - Get in now on: February 27, 2014, 03:58:10 AM
Are we interested in making a colorful logo, or just another coin logo?

We don't need to put it into the shape of a coin, do we? Why not do something different that is more global, to attract a more people than "just another coin"?
100  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][KARM] Karmacoin - 6 Exchanges - Rewards about to change - Get in now on: February 27, 2014, 03:49:01 AM
As someone with years of marketing experience working for the biggest ad agency in the world, I would suggest staying away from symbolism like a dharma wheel.

A white elephant outline is neutral, and would work much better (as a brand) than something that means different things to different people (and would cause many others to become indifferent to Karmacoin).

i.e., come up with something new. The elephant is good. Just make it outstanding and emotionally appealing.

The simpler the logo the better. If I was to design it, I would do something completely different. A blue and red logo like the old Pepsi logo but leaning towards a horizontal yin-yang and getting rid of the dots. Also, there's no need to put "Karmacoin" on the logo. (Such is the sign of an amateur.) The text can go next to it, on the right side.

This makes for a familiar symbol but still something new. Thing big picture and long term. As in, what symbol would make a 9 year-old in the Kenyan highlands smile when they see it just as well as an adult in Shoreditch?

Nevermind what you like. The question is, what would most of your potential users like?

A good logo could mean the difference between success and failure of a company (or coin). (But again, it's not what you think is good...)

its funny how you say that karmacoin should stay away from symbolism and then point to the pepsi logo (which is nothing more than a cheap knockoff of yinyang with the colors changed) as a good example.. lol
yinyang is a religious symbol used in both Daoism and Confucianism.. it also represents a balance of forces (light, dark, good, evil, man, woman etc) which is at odds with the Karma coin motto of "doing good is good" lol

please do not mix Karma with Dao they are completely different ideas and messages
it would be like calling your Coin the RepublicCoin and then using a Crown as your logo or having Easter coin with a picture of a Dog on it.

I agree simplicity is good and I agree that the elephant should stay.. having a mascot will help the cause.. so we should keep the message simple and NOT try to confuse people by mixing symbolism and ideologies.

Well aware. I used to teach Tao te Ching in China (where I live now).

I was suggesting coming up with a new symbol that seems familiar rather than "symbolism like a dharma wheel". No need to be technical about the origins of the Pepsi logo or doing something similar. we're going for emotional appeal, not relating the logo to history. I always go what has worked in some way for others. (Only the world's first logo was an original)

How about a black/white elephant? (An elephant head with the left side black and right side white, for example?)

I respectfully disagree. I majored in Marketing as part of my Commerce degree. I simply don't understand how an elephant, yet alone the Ying and Yang symbol (not even remotely connected with Karma guys) is a better option than a Dharma Wheel. If anyone has done Religious Studies at University or perhaps even studdied Buddhism or Hinduism you will know about Dharma and Karma - it makes perfect sense to have the dharma wheel on the logo for a coin called KARMA, it makes no sense to have a monochrome elephant or something equally unrelated and bland.

We are showing ourselves to be massively ignorant by putting Yin Yang on the KARMA coin and a cute looking elephant simply means nothing to anyone. Remember folks, 25% of the worlds population is either Hindu or Buddhist - the Dharma wheel means something to these people and they will appreciate a coin that uses the name KARMA being informed enough to include the dharma wheel on its logo. It means nothing to the rest of us and that's fine, but there is absolutely no downside to being intelligent and using a symbol that is relevant and makes perfect sense.

Those who don't know the in's and out's of Karma and Dharma only need to like the look of the logo, it is far more pleasing to look at than a black and white elephant or a squiggle jotted down that may or may not look like an elephant - that once again has nothing to do with Karma in the slightest.

Anyone who doesn't 'approve' of said religious connotations will stop at the name KARMA coin - they won't give a shit about the logo, their mind will be made up already. These people are few and far between and we need not pay them any mind.

Let's see what everyone else thinks however, this is a decision that needs to be made by the community - if it does come down to a vote however it needs to be done whereby you get 1 initial vote and then an extra vote for every 1 million coins you hold - as verified by a screenshot included in the post. This is a business decision and those with huge stocks of KARMA must have a proportionately larger say than those with nothing or next to nothing as it is their money that is on the line.

do you see the Pepsi logo (old or new) as being yin-yang?

I wasn't suggesting yin-yang, but yin-yang-like. Like Pepsi's old logo.

A degree means nothing. No offense, but a few decades of real experience in marketing beats a degree any day. You probably have at least 20 of my brands right now in your home.

But at the end of the day it's not about what you like or I like. We must test our theories with the general public (or our target market) instead of making assumptions about what people will like.
