81  Economy / Services / Re: Need someone from Poland to help confirm PayPal address on: January 04, 2015, 04:45:28 PM
Have you tried using a proxy or VPN with a Poland IP address?
That'd probably be safer than giving someone your password to verify your Paypal for you.

A message from GAW (self.Bitcoin)

submitted 3 hours ago * by GAWceo

I wanted to personally come here and address the reddit community. This is not a PR response, this is my own writing. I am posting this message here first.

First, an apology is in order.

While we have made mistakes, its never been to get away or take anything from anyone. But, I understand that, in our effort to "get things done", we have a left a lot of open questions. That's our fault, and has created issued for ourselves.

I am learning that the crypto community is incredibly unique and forgiving. As whole it can accept issues, as long as you're upfront and transparent about them.

We have not been, but we are committed to fix that. We want to work with the community, not against it.

Regarding the issues that have come up with PayBase and Paycoin: There is no ill intention, we were not looking to get away with anything. There just a few things that did not go as planned and they snowballed into larger issues. Worse, we did not communicate that well or at all.

Having said that, we are working on some options for our customers. We will NOT allow any of our customers, that purchased through us or HashPoints, suffer a loss from their original investment.

We will stand behind Paycoin and our customers, we are not going anywhere. We will face the challenges ahead and we will deliver what we promised.

Through time, action and change, I hope we can show you guys that we truly want to contribute to this community.

Josh and GAW

(Update)

As a result of the quality and quantity (here) of questions/comments we have received, we have decided to collect all the questions being asked here to answer and post them at one time.

This will allow future community members to easily find the answers they are looking for
83  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: bitcoin difficulty + btc price on: January 02, 2015, 07:27:48 PM
So sad to see current btc price, it's been around ~300 for weeks. I will stop mining by the next difficulty change if the price stays the same. mission fail, waiting for a miracle now
This is exactly what needs to happen. Those who are put off by the price need to stop mining so the difficulty can come back down.
84  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: transaction validation on: December 31, 2014, 02:57:04 AM
That feels kind of low. 4TH/s to process just 1 transaction a day? Feels like a lot of wasted computing power.
85  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 13000 cubic feet freezer - any use to a potential mining rig? on: December 31, 2014, 02:53:31 AM
This is an interesting idea. Though I don't think it'd work for the same reasons listed by others ^
Kudos for thinking outside of the box though.

Guess you are blind. Tongue
Only kidding, of course.
87  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: PB Mining A Ship Waiting To Sink ? on: December 31, 2014, 02:39:57 AM
PB is a known ponzi. I'd highly recommend anyone interested in cloud mining to first read through this thread:

You won't regret it.
88  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: bitcoin api calls. (solved) on: December 31, 2014, 02:21:32 AM
Such a thought provoking thread. I don't think I can handle it all. Bravo!
89  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: New to Mining on: December 30, 2014, 07:31:45 PM
All you need is your wallet.dat, I believe. Keep that file saved somewhere and transfer it to your new drive afterwards.
90  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Bitcoinminerz.com on: December 30, 2014, 07:21:40 PM
Yes, seems so. Regardless, OP never bothered to come back and post an update. I presume everything got taken care of.
91  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Black Arrow weekly scam update on: December 30, 2014, 07:15:17 PM
The Rent-Some-Minions is a real special animal here, they're starting and stopping customers at weird times, refusing to disclose the effective dates of "contracts", and making all kinds of completely unverifiable claims about uptime.

All while there is exactly 0 reason to believe they've done anything other than market buy GH/s on cex.io with the bitcoin payments of their customers, now that GH/s on cex is profoundly lower than what customers originally paid for their hardware.
Lol that wouldn't surprise me. They only start doing things after everyone else is cheaper than them, so they're still making money off of you buy buying the GH/s themselves for cheaper and keeping the higher amount you paid for themselves.
Classic Black Arrow bullshit.
92  Other / Meta / Re: How about a cloud mining sub-forum? on: December 30, 2014, 07:10:20 PM
I would argue that sig campaigns and scripts should also have their own dedicated subforum. They are all major topics that deserve their own place instead of cluttering up a huge general services forum.

Would be pretty neutral over here.
Lol I see what you did there. Tongue
94  Economy / Securities / Re: SimpleDice Is Gathering Investors. on: December 25, 2014, 03:36:13 AM
Your pitch wasn't very good and I wouldn't feel safe with my coins in your hands. Plus, you're way too new to trust. Also, no https. I'm out.
95  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: New to Mining on: December 25, 2014, 03:29:03 AM
Thank you guys for your advice. It is much appreciated. I ended up not going with either of the ones I listed in the OP, but instead paid less than $15 for a 200 Gh/s miner.

Thanks again!
Sounds like you got a pretty good deal. You'll definitely be able to ROI with that in less than a month.

That would depend upon the J/GH of the miner and the cost of electricity. Breaking even in less than a month is highly unlikely.
Regards of power costs, paying that much for that much hashing power is guaranteed ROI, as long as Bitcoin's price doesn't nosedive. It's basic math.

Was that really you? Do you have any proof?
97  Economy / Economics / Re: Sizing and detailing the bitcoin economy by segments on: December 25, 2014, 03:23:59 AM
I guess bitcoin gambling accounts for a significant portion of the bitcoin economy. It is tough to quantify this though. I remember reading that Satoshi Dice accounted for 25-50% of all bitcoin transactions last year. According to reports, the gambling industry is poised to grow further.
https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/bitcoin-will-revolutionize-gambling/

I think major sectors in the bitcoin economy would be
- Mining
- ASIC Manufacturing (Aren't these purchased primarily using bitcoins)
- Gambling
- Trading (Bitcoin exchanges)
- Bitcoin Mixing
- Remittance
- Pornography (Girls Gone Bitcoin, among others  Grin)
- Illegal activities (Buying drugs, Ransomware, etc)
- Ancillary Services (Legal, Compliance, Bitcoin software, etc)

Thanks for your input. I know gambling is big, and somehow this is worrying. BTC deserves better. I wish a car manufacturer could sell its products and accepts only BTC as a payment.

I think the big advantage that gambling has is that payouts are its primary expense and these can be denominated in Bitcoin. A car manufacturer would have to pay for materials, components, wages, utility bills, etc. which are necessarily fiat denominated. Unless you have these being paid in Bitcoin, it would be very difficult for a car manufacture to sell its products and accept only BTC as payment.
They could use Coinbase and never have to deal with Bitcoins if they don't want to. They accept Bitcoin, but they will receive dollars.
98  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How much btc mined? on: December 23, 2014, 05:44:51 AM

I hope you have those coins in cold storage. Having 50btc in a hot wallet would be very risky.

Is blockchain is a kind of cold storage ?
How risky if I save my bitcoin into hot wallet ? Easy being hacked ?
I wouldn't trust keeping any coins on blockchain.info. They've had serious security issues lately. If you have a lot of coins, put them in cold storage. Meaning, get a hard drive, encrypt it with TrueCrypt (optional), install your wallet on there and keep copies of the wallet.dat file on some other flash drives as a back up, and keep that hard drive disconnected from the Internet. That's it. You can always check the balance of the wallet by checking the address that holds the coins on a block explorer site (blockchain.info is good for this).

I too have one solo mining. It's better than trying to use it to mine in a pool. Maybe I'll get lucky one day..
