81  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if Bitcoin was copied but didn't need to generate coin. on: April 14, 2014, 02:04:00 AM
I suppose anything is possible, the coming decades will certainly be interesting.
82  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if Bitcoin was copied but didn't need to generate coin. on: April 13, 2014, 04:45:53 PM
getting the government as it exists now to use bitcoin i totally do not want, nither does anyone else.

but imagine it this way,
imagine if hospitals have bitcoin addresses. and bitcoiners decide instead of cashing out to fiat (incurring tax) they decide they will pay 1% of bitcoin income to the hospital where the hospital can see that a person has paid X amount to cover any future health issues.
the police, fire, courts etc.. all these services have addresses too and we put 1% into each of those.

with all the needed services covered to ensure a happy and healthy lifestyle totalling maybe 20% of our income at most. then the question really is... do we need all of those paper pushing government workers that do nothing to help us live happy and healthy lives..

thus using our wealth to drain the government into a more sleak and robust system that works for us.. rather then us working for them

we may even find that once we kill off the dead weight 'do-nothings' that take a salary from the taxes, we will hopefully see that to fund all of the essential public services only cost 10% or lower of our income,

That starts off as sounding totally elitist (for obvious reasons, not everyone has bitcoins or ever will afford them) and transitions into a dream where the governments say ok everyone you run services now, sorry about that taxation stuff.

In theory a lot of things sound good, maybe even deserve a trial run but at the end of the day it comes down to brute force or the threat of it. Putin is a prime example of this idea. It does not matter if we are in 2014, we are more humane, equal rights, sovereign nations, the bloody UN and a general idea that we should follow rules. No, doesn't matter to him, he understands that being cunning is part of it but brute force always wins. The Vikings knew it, the Spanish and so on. Impose your will on others with force, not digital currency, grand ideas or brilliant thinking.

The other issue with bitcoin is we cannot forget numerical advantages will always win. There just plain is not enough bitcoin or will ever be if nothing changes to over take the fiat system to any degree to impact the world. It doesn't help the vast majority are held by a small group either. It also doesn't help the government can create out of thin air where as a bitcoin is limited. So you have a potentially infinite force on one side vs a limited one, it cannot win.

Now in saying all that I still like the thought of it, it will impact how our financial services function from here on out and if you can make a buck along the way, good for you. But a revolution, we'll see.

What if the government decided to have a cashless society. Just creating digital currency out of nothing, backed by nothing and just given a value...

Just like paper money, they could, kind of already do and we will accept it or die.

This whole bitcoin theory of breaking free from government chains blah blah blah is nice and dandy but ultimately the one's with the gun's win, not the one's with the altcurrency.

Bitcoin will survive in some respect but used by a government to further control the people, not promote freedom, sadly this experiment of sorts is not good for us at all really. I believe the government is the creator, not some hero free thinker who wants us to be free.

Just my opinion, a bit off the topic and a downer but we need to remember before bitcoin there was salt, wooden sticks, genuine trade and so on. None of those stood up to government and a digital currency is even less likely.  And before you start on how advanced and technical bitcoin is and how it works and it is far from a wooden stick with notches, it isn't . At  the end of the day it is simply a tool given value by people no matter how it is created, shared, spent or sold. If tomorrow we all agreed to use spoons for commerce guess what, do we think we'd take our financial freedom back with spoons? It has as much of a chance.

Don't misunderstand me, bitcoin has many advantages in other terms, fee's, privacy and so on but it's ultimate battle is with big brother and their currency and financial system. Cheaper transfer fee's and all it's technical wonder will never compete with a drone or regulation.

We see how good journalists are these days and as far as I know law enforcement isn't so...

Ironic, when weighing risk the fiat keeps winning, for now.

As a long time Kitco forum member I have to chuckle when the bitcoin threads start to look like bullion threads.

You be sure of one thing, when a thread states a rally is upon us, the bottom falls out. When someone says it will never recover or take 5-10 years, one month later we are on top.

Bottom line is the variables are plenty and the guesses worthless.

You lay down your money and pray, using graphs and discussing possible impacting factors will do nothing but fool one's self into believing what they want.

In saying that its going down LOL

He is findable, I mean for what it is worth he paid a guy to sale his art and took the cash from him. Yet no one asked the old man who he was talking with or handed cash to..come on.

He could be found inside 24 hrs by law enforcement or a good journalist if anyone truly cared or just one person talked.
89  Economy / Digital goods / Re: BitcoinWallet.com - SOLD for $250,000 on: March 25, 2014, 01:40:58 AM
It was a good buy and here is why.

With the traffic and ability to turn that traffic into revenue youd have to be a screw up not to recoup the money.

That is why keyword dot com with natural traffic that is targeted is easy money and any amount from 10's of thousands to hundreds makes sense if you have half a brain.

I don't see a price either and agree with Mike.

Are there any laws preventing this set up in tdot, anyone know of any that exist there yet? Would one need to apply for a license of some sort from the city?

Had a chat with one of those guys...  Roll Eyes

Funny how one can get a degree in finance yet still not understand finance.

Really? Did you chat with one of them today?!

Who?

I won't name names because we ended up disagreeing heavily on one topic. Words may have been exchanged and I do not wish to drag it up again. He is actually a member here and elsewhere though so up to him if he speaks up...

The chat was about a week ago and had to do with value. I find the reality and practicality of "things" namely bitcoin do not factor into "their" metrics. Sometimes the real world can destroy a lab theory.

96  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gold Bugs Attack Bitcoin In their Ads on: March 18, 2014, 12:16:55 AM
Again, point is, gold is always wanted, is rare and has always had value.

If I cannot rely upon that as a financial insurance policy then Russia, China, India, supposedly the USA/UK (lies) etc are all fools for buying and stocking up on it.

I suppose your theory of what might happen to gold is far superior to 6000 years + of history and world super powers.

Ill go with the history and super powers although you are likely a smart guy, Ill hedge my bet Wink

97  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gold Bugs Attack Bitcoin In their Ads on: March 17, 2014, 11:57:40 PM
My point is missed, the world has always seen value in gold, always.
98  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gold Bugs Attack Bitcoin In their Ads on: March 17, 2014, 11:13:18 PM
Hold on a few myths there...exempt are "collector" coins firstly. You can buy "collector" gold at spot based on condition and pay no premium if the gold is all you care about. Besides that was the US, who wants to live there lol

Secondly the old, you cant drink or eat it is true in that you cannot but many would be willing to sell food and drink for it. Likely for guns and ammunition as well.

To disregard gold as an insurance policy should shtf is foolish, it has always held value, always. $1 or $1900, doesn't matter.

I am not saying rely on it alone, I would add a water supply, guns, ammo, veggie garden etc.

One needs to be diversified, putting all in on gold or bitcoin would be crazy. I do not believe in gold or use it as a vehicle to make money, rather it is insurance, something bitcoin or any other currency cannot and has never supplied.

Did you know EVERY paper monetary system since conceived by the Romans up until now has failed eventually as well as the economy it was tied to. History shows there is NO reason to have any faith in paper and especially not electronic/internet/cryptocurrency.

Hi you are hungry, need a place to take shelter, whats that you have worthless paper, oh bitcoins you say, ok hand me them so I can go...whats that they are on a stick you say, the internet, oh you mean the one the United Nations now controls and shut down..do you have any of that you cant eat or drink stuff... gold or silver?

Definitely over 60 crowd.

I am a bit of a gold bug.  I firmly believe that a third of your long term security should be held in precious metals.

Back in the 90's I started buying gold and silver.  When silver topped $50 I sold a bunch off.  That silver sold for about 9 times what I paid for it.  I took that and bought bitcoin.  At that time was about $30.  I consider myself extremely lucky.  I've since bought more silver after the price dropped below $25.

When I cashed in silver the generic rounds, eagles and maple leafs all brought the same amount.  Coin dealers will try to convince you that buying government mint coins are a better investment.  That is pure B.S. to get you to pay more.  If the SHTF nobody is going to give you a premium for them.  Ounces is ounces.

Gold has no current use as a currency.  Most people out there have no idea what a 1oz coin value in USD is.  Personally I think Platinum is a better long term buy.

I used to carry some Liberty coins around with me.  Several times I used those to purchase things and they were accepted at the $10 valuation that is on them.    I still have a few as a reminder of what subterfuge the US Government is capable of.

That fact that bitcoin does not have any central control is what attracted me to it.  I learned my lesson with E-Gold.

Gold bug here as well, you know the old sayin " if you don't hold it, you don't own it ", that is why I shake my head at the etf's and paper gold market, firstly because no one realized they don't truly hold it and secondly the manipulation.

I still like to think of the golden rule, he owns it makes the rules Smiley
