81  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Forum now hosting the Bitcoin Wiki on: March 23, 2014, 12:59:14 AM
I went to the wiki for the first time in a long time yesterday. I was surprised at home out-of-date and uninformative it was. Hopefully the new management will bring things around for the community. Wink
82  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How safe is Coinbase? on: March 22, 2014, 08:23:54 PM
I don't have much experience with Coinbase to say whether or not they're trustworthy. If you're concerned about them, you could use them for purchases that you then transfer to a computer or paper wallet for storage.

A bit loud for a phone case, but that's just me. I agree with snarlpill: the Bitcoin symbol needs to be more apparent. Make it pop a little more.

Also, not a fan of the black X. Is that a part of the design, or did you put that there for the sample?
84  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Encrypting private messages? on: March 22, 2014, 07:37:36 PM
Ok what i explain here is that you are trying to send a message to someone and all you want is to encrypt in so that no one else can understand it right Huh
considering that there are many online website and many different encryption you can use like base64 , hex , md5 etc . So all you need to do is to enter your message there and convert is choosing the type of encryption you want. It can be easily be decrypt by the user using the same encryption. Here is one wibsite which does it.

http://www.asciitohex.com/

The GPG encryption was the one I was thinking of, but I couldn't remember what it was called. However, that link you provided is also really helpful. Thanks to both of you!
85  Other / Beginners & Help / Encrypting private messages? on: March 22, 2014, 06:37:45 PM
I saw the little caution message when sending a private message about encrypting private messages. I've heard about encrypting your messages online, but I don't have a clue how to do so. Can anyone link me to a good tutorial on this?

Thanks!

Sent a PM.
87  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin reputability on: March 22, 2014, 06:01:42 PM
You realize, of course, that google's search suggestions are tuned to your personal search history, right?

No.  I get identical results from a TOR browser.  (possible that someone with a botnet did this for luls)

I get the same results when I try it too. Not like the results mean anything. Since when have Bitcoin users held regard for the opinions of the masses? (assuming Google autofill can even be considered the masses' opinion)
88  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Symbol on: March 22, 2014, 01:36:26 PM
I'm not against the idea of a different Bitcoin symbol, but it's a bit late in Bitcoin's progression to try and make such a change. The BTC symbol may be more akin to a logo, but it certainly denotes Bitcoin as a currency and has represented Bitcoin to users and media sources for years now. And, ultimately, is it even necessary to change the symbol? What does it, or can it, add to Bitcoin at this point?

The OP's suggestion is not new. The idea of using Ƀ has been around for years. One good reason for using it is that it is already a standard symbol. You can already use it in an email or a document. Try putting BTC in an document.

Ah, my bad. I don't remember seeing it before.

90  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Apple approves Bitcoin Wallet app - bitWallet. on: March 22, 2014, 03:05:25 AM
Kudos to you. It's nice to see someone get through to Apple with wallet apps. I still miss having blockchain on my iPhone, so here's hoping you can get a full wallet feature set in the future!
91  Other / Off-topic / Re: Thought For The Day: 03/21/2014 on: March 22, 2014, 02:58:45 AM
I've never heard that one before. I'll have to tuck it away in my memory banks, lol!
92  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is there any BTC bank? on: March 22, 2014, 02:30:58 AM
I mean the bank giving out some interest or making some loans.

Is there only wallet in BTC world?

If so, one more question...WHY?

I think it's more appropriate to ask "why a bank?" When it comes to Bitcoin, what extra services or security could a bank offer that is not an inherent part of Bitcoin itself?
93  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What format did Satoshi use for his original Bitcoin paper? on: March 21, 2014, 10:09:39 PM
Cool deal. I'll take a look at Latex then. Thanks!
94  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What format did Satoshi use for his original Bitcoin paper? on: March 21, 2014, 12:05:38 AM
You should ask him.

[when I get a chance I'll read the whitepaper again and see if I can figure something out]

He stopped answering my calls. Tongue

[thanks!]
95  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What format did Satoshi use for his original Bitcoin paper? on: March 20, 2014, 11:56:09 PM
Might be a bit of a random question, but I just finished reading Satoshi's original Bitcoin paper and I was wondering what format he used for it. It's not MLA or APA, which exhausts my (admittedly limited) knowledge of essay formats. I like the simplicity of the format he used, so I'd like to know more about it. Can someone let me know what format he used? Is it even an established format, or is it just how he decided to format it himself?
96  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: THERE IS NO TAX and there NEVER be any Tax on Bitcoin on: March 20, 2014, 11:09:26 PM
There's a central problem with this argument: the U.S. government taxes your income, not your money. That income doesn't have to be in the form on cash or cash equivalents: you could receive a car as a gift from someone and still have to pay tax on the value of the car.

Whether or not Bitcoin is considered money in the U.S. wouldn't really matter to the IRS, I would think. Not saying I agree with it, of course, but I would be careful about the tax treatment of your Bitcoins.

Of course, it's also like cash income: it's very hard for the IRS to prove you earned any.

EDIT: The IRS also has a very wide definition of "income", as evidenced by the gift example above.

That's a sad story, but at least she embraced her final days. May she rest in peace.
98  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What happened to Mt. Gox? on: March 20, 2014, 01:41:27 AM

Gracias. That's a damn shame. My condolences to everyone who lost their coins through all this.  Undecided
99  Economy / Service Discussion / What happened to Mt. Gox? on: March 20, 2014, 01:34:34 AM
I've admittedly been out of the Bitcoin loop for quite a while, so hearing that Mt. Gox closed is quite a surprise. What happened?
100  Other / Off-topic / Does anyone here subscribe to the Ron Paul channel? on: March 20, 2014, 01:17:57 AM
I'm a fan of Dr. Paul's books and I recently discovered that he does a weekly podcast that has been helping me get through work each day. I'm trying to decide whether or not to subscribe to the Ron Paul channel, so I was hoping someone here might be able to fill me in: is it worth the $9.99/month subscription?

Thanks!
