81  Other / Beginners & Help / what changes were made to the Bitcoin since disappearance of Satoshi? on: December 03, 2022, 02:08:22 PM
I know that Bitcoin is changing... and the recent release of Bitcoin Core is 24. However, since I lack knowledge on coding I am curious what major changes were made to the Bitcoin. Is the block structure is the same? What about consensus protocol? I appreciate if someone could explain those changes in plain English with examples.
82  Economy / Reputation / Re: Is Satoshi a Russian? on: November 30, 2022, 10:12:50 AM
1. I am not Russian, however, russian is one of the languages I speak and I often check there.
2. There are a lot of people who are not Russian, however, russian language is de facto first language for them. Lots of them.
3. I think people in Russian section of this site (and I think everywhere generally) tend to argue a lot. Those who speaks russian they know :-) that creates a lot of content.
83  Economy / Trading Discussion / What if Grayscale had to sell all 643,572 bitcoins it has? Let's speculate. on: November 29, 2022, 06:21:43 PM
"Grayscale has used that capital to buy more and more BTC. Now, it's accumulated over 643,572 bitcoins, which is around $10.12 billion in assets as of the time of this writing"

Grayscale for sure is under a lot of pressure right now. As far as I know, they are struggling to find additional funds and one of the possible outcomes of this situation is that they might be forced to sell all the 643,572 bitcoins. How far BTC can drop if this will happen?

Let's speculate.

Solana:

What will
Are there any bitcoin miners here that can help me out with this transaction? Any help from you guys would be greatly appreciated. I will send the transaction hash for better clarification.

Sadly, no one here can help you with that, while most of us here are miners, we don't get to choose which transaction to include the blocks, the mining pool itself does and since your wallet options are limited and you can't do RBF or anything else, there is almost nothing you can do about it, I checked your transition fee and it's 0.00000559 BTC it means even the free accelerator like Viabtc won't accept it, paid services will cost a lot (i think 30-50$ with of BTC).

You paid almost 4 sat per vbyte which isn't the worst in the world, should go through in the weekend.

the fee is 0.09 USD, what will happen to this transaction now? will it every processed? How long it might take? just interesting

На странице Solana Ecosystem Facts Related to FTX Bankruptcy обновилась информация о продаже монет Solana Foundation и Solana Labs, Inc. в пользу FTX/Alameda:

" Сделки Solana Foundation с FTX/Alameda

" Сделки Solana Labs, Inc. с FTX/Alameda

FTX/Alameda. "

So now when FTX is bankrupt, why FTT is still trading in some exchanges?

How about this news?

Binance Releases Wallet Addresses of $69B Crypto Reserve

https://www.coindesk.com/business/2022/11/10/binance-releases-wallet-addresses-of-69b-crypto-reserve/

Basically two questions:

1. Cold wallet and reserves. Does it mean all those reserves belong to them? It is not user funds? It is their own funds? Is this what they saying?
2. What is Merkle Tree (proof-of-funds)? I guess it is important in this case.

Roll Eyes

FTT уже 3,5 бакса  Roll Eyes

"On 11/2, Hetzner removed many of Solana’s independent validators in connection with a change of Hetzner’s policy. As a result, the Solana Foundation began the process of unstaking 28.5M SOL delegated to those validators as part of the Solana Foundation’s Delegation Program..."

But then why would Binance announce it? I am sure they know that going public about their plans to liquidate FTT will bring the price of the token down. They've could first liquidate it, then announce it.

Binance moving their FTT holdings was pretty public on Twitter already because of people watching on-chain movements; CZ's tweet pretty much just confirmed it because people we're already tagging him asking him about Binance's FTT holdings in the first place.

yeah could be, then the question is why Binance was moving their FTT. I think now everyone know that something bigger going on there. FTT dropped to 15.06 USDT at some point. We will see.
97  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Crypto news in plain English. Let's read it! on: November 07, 2022, 02:07:12 PM
Binance looks like they're accusing FTX of lobbying behind them. I think this is probably something done based off closeness to regulators, because ftx and coinbase are regulated exchanges they might be closer to regulators and therefor might find it easy to lobby against new and other firms in the same space (which is often done anyway with many different sectors in history imo).

The question here is why did binance publish this? What are they trying to do with that? A lot of the channels I've seen seem to suggest they're trying to get a response from FTX too on it or trying to cause liquidity problems with the exchange. It might also have been an attempt to cause a crash and see if one exchange was better at dealing with it than the other.

thanks, yeah seems to be really strange situation.
If FTX will fail, that would be big given their size. Failing FTX could drag others as well, including Binance. No?

For those who are new in the town and might not know all the details and story behind the news. And the jargon doesn't help. So, let's start this thread and help beginners to understand the news.
Here anyone can post a news, tweet or a question and ask others to explain it in plain English. Explain Like I'm Five basically.

Here is the first such a request from me:

Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao tweets:

Liquidating our FTT is just post-exit risk management, learning from LUNA. We gave support before, but we won't pretend to make love after divorce. We are not against anyone. But we won't support people who lobby against other industry players behind their backs. Onwards.

What is this all about? FTX was lobbying behind the Binance?

99  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: How CEXs work? on: November 04, 2022, 10:18:16 AM
If everyone has a unique BTC address, how come that they can avoid broadcasting the transaction? Lots of people trading in all those CEX/DEX, the network should be full of those transactions, no?

When you first make an account, they assign an address to you. Imagine the following table in their database (let's say we already have funds in our accounts):

Code:
+-----------------+-------------+---------+
|      User       | btc_address | Balance |
+-----------------+-------------+---------+
| OmegaStarScream | bc1q123     | 5 BTC   |
| a298b112        | bc1q789456  | 2.5 BTC |
+-----------------+-------------+---------+

So now, whenever you trade your BTC to USDT for example, all they need to do is update your record based on how much you bought or sold without having to touch the bitcoin or ethereum networks. So if you sold 1 BTC for 20K USDT,  it would be something like this:

Code:
UPDATE users_table
SET btc_balance = btc_balance - 1
WHERE user= 'a298b112'

Code:
UPDATE users_table
SET usdt_balance = usdt_balance + 20,000
WHERE user= 'a298b112'

So as I mentioned above, It's only when you request a withdrawal that they broadcast the transaction to the network.

Thanks a lot for this, now it makes sense
100  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: How CEXs work? on: November 03, 2022, 03:18:11 PM
1. They give one or multiple addresses for each user for the different coins there are and yes, they do keep the private keys.
2. It's just 1's and 0's moving around in their database. You're not broadcasting a bitcoin transaction when you're trading your BTC for another coin.
3. A deposit address is unique and connected to your account (user ID), no two people can have the same deposit address.
4. It's the same concept for all coins. They'll just subtract and add from/to your account's balance from their database.

If everyone has a unique BTC address, how come that they can avoid broadcasting the transaction? Lots of people trading in all those CEX/DEX, the network should be full of those transactions, no?
