81  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A advise to my friend about his decision on: August 06, 2023, 09:28:27 AM
Many people lack basic knowledge of bitcoins.
I became interested in this topic when I learned that a friend of mine was so ignorant of bitcoin that he recently received bitcoins from his father, but he had no idea what to do with them. As a result, he tried to reject the inheritance and was spared from having to argue with the lawyer who was reading the deceased father's will, which was being read aloud. Why wouldn't someone, he insisted, give him some houses and perhaps some cash so he could launch a new business?

But while his father decided to give him bitcoins, my friend was furious and even left the house because he believed his late father had given him some money out of hate for him. When my friend came to my house to tell me the story, I encouraged him to collect the coins and learn more about bitcoins, and he was furious to listen to me until I started the show and started explaining it to him. At that point, he was happy and walked back.

So, my senior colleagues, is what I just did the right approach to introduce someone to bitcoin? And because I've just recently joined the forum and have only recently heard of bitcoin, I also need some further recommendations that I will need to share with him.
You have done the right thing, i am agreed with you, Because from what i understand with your post, is: Your Friend had not a slight idea of BTC, He/she might be thinking of it as a scam or useless tokens which might have no value. And when you show him the value of some BTC which you might have, Then he must be convinced.

I hope my father would know about BTC because if he will, he definitely would teach me, i sometime thinks, what if i came to know about BTC back in 2010. I might be rich but for now i am not regretting on that instead moving forward with future.

You are newbie and want to teach your friend. Are you knowledgeable enough to teach your friend?

I doubt any newbiew can teach about Bitcoin and when you are learning, you must be more careful with your words in conversation as if you make mistakes in knowledge, security advice, you don't help your friend but do something harmful.

If your friend inherites it from his father but wants to reject it, why should you engage in?

I am unsure how his dad can leave information about bitcoin private key, seed to your friend and how the lawyer engages in this case. It is risky to share private key in an inheritance document and leave it to a lawyer.

This story sounds fictious.
Don't judge a book by its cover, Evey newbie on this platform does not mean he will be noob in knowing BTC. Well, you definitely spent a long time here so you will have more knowledge then i have or OP have. But, judging others knowledge is not advice able, as from the acts of OP i agreed with him because if he is sharing the true story then there was no need to judge him/her.

I don't use them because I generally just put threads on my watchlist, and then I will just look through new messages at times that I choose.

Maybe my use of the word "criticize" is too strong.  There was a thread that was created about me, and members thought that I should have known about it because it was presumed that most longer term WO members would be using some kind of a notification for when their name was mentioned.

What is WO members, is this some kind of group. I also hit watch button on this thread but first it took me a while to find my watchlist (like how can i access it) then even i find the watchlist option which was right in front of my face, i opened it and this thread didn't showed there. Like it is not showing in the watchlist even i have click on the watch option. But thanks for the heads up, i will dig more into this matter.
Sometimes members do not respond to questions and/or requests.

I just did a quick look and I see that this thread by TryNinja has several notification features (a bot?) that are described.  It is a long thread, but the beginning (OP) post seems to have some good descriptions of the various kinds of notifications that members are able to receive.

Also, I am pretty sure that fillippone has a thread that he created about notifications that come up on a smart watch, and he may well be using the TryNinja bot features in order to enable those kinds of notifications.
This TryNinja tool is a best i think, from what i have observed by just reading the OP post, i think this tool will be handier than the watchlist option. Thanks a lot dear for helping me here. I think this Ninja's tool will do the work fine.
83  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: August 04, 2023, 03:27:37 AM
Of course, you are rephrasing the subject of bitcoin strategy differently than how I phrased it, so I am not  sure if we are thinking about the matter the same, or maybe I am just misunderstanding how you are rephrasing the topic.

It seems that part of the essence of what both Odusko and I had been attempting to say is that within a 10 year or longer investment journey, there is likely going to be a lot of balancing and rebalancing of strategies along the way, and perhaps even needs to tweak strategies based on changes in your own personal situation, that may or may not end up involving your view of the underlying asset (in this case bitcoin).
I understood what you are tried to said, my purpose was not to just rephrase it instead i was relating odusko's post with your's suggestion and as far as i think, i didn't rephrase the post i wrote it as you said. Other than that, i totally understand the meaning of both of your suggestion and if i rephrase it or write it in my own words then it will be like do not fall prey to market sentiments like FOMO, FUD etc.

I am not exactly sure what you meant by the idea of 10% for 10 years versus the other ways of accumulating 1 years worth of an investment portfolio, because when I used those numbers, I was trying to suggest that if any of us might choose to put in 10% of our salary per year, it is going to take us 10 years to reach ..........
Yes dear i also tried to say the same i think my English is getting weaker so please forgive me for that.

Invest with what you could lose to afford. Is the saying i have heard a lot in short period of time so, i am taking care of my personal expenses first before jumping into investing in BTC. But currently market is full of FOMO for me. Like i don't think i would  get this opportunity again.
Let's say that you have a rough idea for your cashflow, and you think that you might be able to be somewhat aggressive towards bitcoin and to invest $6k over the next 6 months, and you might even be able to front load that investment.  However, you are not really sure because you have not really analyzed your finances very well, and you have a lot of debt and some uncertainties with your cashflow.
Noted, its a good advice i will try to follow it. Thanks.

I am pretty sure that there are ways to receive those kinds of notifications for when your name is mentioned, but I don't use any of those kinds of services (and I have been criticized for NOT using those kinds of services)... so hopefully, another member can describe those kinds of notice possibiltles.
Why, is it something bad in using them? or is it you who do not use them for criticization only. Well, how could i make everyone to read my post because currently i am mentioning you and no other person will try to read it as they only read the post (obviously) in which they are being mentioned. Well i am bolding my request maybe someone help me out here. How could i get notification whenever a member will mention me?
84  Economy / Economics / Re: Benefits of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies to the global Economic Structure on: August 02, 2023, 09:40:34 AM
Despite all of the features you have talked about, i would like to emphasize that China which hates cryptocurrency so much and tried many times to manipulate the market. Ha chose an alternative way to Leverage the Blockchain technology means the features of BTC and Blockchain. Point being made here is, Countries are looking for alternative ways to adopt it. Why? Because they know the benefits it will bring to them, and another thing is US is already getting so much profit from crypto so why other countries would leave behind.

They are also trying very hard to adopt BTC for example, Japan and Hong Kong are the main hubs right now of NFTs and Web3 and Metaverse platforms.

I am agree with with points but those points are not convincing because most of the people might not value anonymity so, how would we convince them. With lower fee transactions? But a thing worth 3$ has 5$ as transaction fee so merchants are ignoring this as payment method
85  Economy / Economics / Re: The American Dream. What is Your Country's Version of it? on: August 02, 2023, 09:33:18 AM
If you ask most people around the world what they mean by the “American dream,” nearly all will respond with some version of upward social mobility, the American success story, or the self-made man (rarely the self-made woman). Perhaps they will invoke the symbolic house with a white picket fence that suggests economic self-sufficiency and security; many will associate the phrase with the land of opportunity for immigrants.

Secondly every country in the world has some version of their American dream, if your country does, what is its version of the American dream and does it still exist? Is it still achieveable or attainable?
It's still achievable and worth a lot for believer of American Dream. For example, in America women could easily do their jobs but in many countries where women are restricted in homes only. Not targeting any race but still many people of backward mindset still exist. So, for those women American Dream is a thing because those who wanted to become a Doctor, Engineer, etc. could fulfil their dreams in America.

That's what American Dream mean, the land where dream comes true when you put hard work. Hardwork is the most necessary thing, if one is not willing to make efforts and still will think that he/she will fulfill their dreams in America then America is not some fairytale world. It's just a country where opportunities are available and if not then could be created.

I always wanted to earn money, Passive source of money, but i have seen many people going to UK Canada but not a single one in my relative or friend zone has ever gone to US. So, i cannot say that life is hard there but i can say one thing for sure UK and Canada's life is not easy. Many people are sleeping on the roads (talking about immigrants). I do not want to leave my country, because my dreams could be fulfilled remotely  Wink Wink
86  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: August 02, 2023, 09:00:34 AM
All the same @Dictator69 if you started your bitcoin journey in few months back by your quest to learn cryptocurrencies trading which made you to pick interest in reading everything related to Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies,  but I will say that that space of time is not enough because to build a stable financial portfolio in bitcoin one need to put in years of consistent learning and accumulation along the way up, not only buying the dip but also allocating a substantial amount of your total cash flow to stock up your Bitcoin holding to be able to attain the level where your financial stability won't only depend on the price of Bitcoin but also having other sources for cashflow that can sustain you during any market condition that may come along the line.
I could understand what you are saying, i have seen few motivational videos too in which many people tried to emphasize the importance of getting knowledge of How BTC could also make your life miserable if you will not follow or set some rule for yourself. Because, market is volatile and i definitely have to be careful. But from what i have understood from jayjuangee last reply to me.

Holding is better but doing DCA, Lump sum and buying at every dip is good. instead of putting 10% of your savings in BTC for like 10 years. Instead of that invest 1 whole years savings by following some holding ethics and see the gains you will get. I liked that idea and it is far better. So, again i totally agree with you too.

Invest with what you could lose to afford. Is the saying i have heard a lot in short period of time so, i am taking care of my personal expenses first before jumping into investing in BTC. But currently market is full of FOMO for me. Like i don't think i would  get this opportunity again.

IS there any settings here to get notifications when someone call your name or mention you. Because i have to visit this thread to see if someone replied me back or not. I posted on many other topics too but do not if someone has replied me back so without getting into discussions like back to back on WhatsApp we do is not a fun. I am roaming around in search of topics where someone might be called or mentioned me.
87  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: August 01, 2023, 06:49:24 PM
You are explaining it a bit different than me, but it could be that we are mostly understanding what each other is saying.

I am not sure if it might not be worth emphasizing a bit better what I mean, though.

Of course, this thread is about bitcoin, so it might not be too good of an idea to get too distracted into talking about various shitcoins, including which ones might be worth investing into, if any of them.
............snip..................
Something similar happened in China in late 2016.  A lot of Chinese exchanges locked up the value of their citizens in the various Chinese exchanges until they KYC'd or whatever other bullshit that they were supposed to do, and a lot of those citizens got screwed out of the whole 2017 bull run.. and perhaps even Chinese officials thought that they were going to be able to discourage the BTC price from going
......snip.......
You are not the ONLY one who suffers from receiving my relatively long responses.  You can glance through random samples of my post history and see that I have tendencies that go back all the way to the beginning of my forum membership for long responses.
Today i collected all my energy to give reply back to you, as just after my last reply to you network service went down for like 2 days in my country's big cities. The reasons was some Religious groups were taking out a procession so to provide them top notch level security our government authorities planned to shut down network service. And after that, when i read your post, i was like, oh shit you must have smoking something because writing that long is not an easy task.

Well, i just ready your reply and it was informative, encouraging, and motivational for me. And thanks for spending so much time just to give that information for free of cost as nothing is free nowadays. And i also found my idea of saving in local currency bad because it will just lose value. So, i think i should buy some USD instead of some bonds because i do not like bonds. I like currency which i could at least predict about.

And Chinese (governments) are still making profits from crypto space by using Hong Kong so, i must say they were not off the game ever. All they did is took some precautions.

I might be missing some points to reply back on but overall, i now understand i am not the blank slate because you like to write that long. So best of luck with such writing i should suggest you to start some blog etc. which i think you already have thought about. So, thanks for your words. And i will try to save 10 million Satoshi someday And i really liked the idea of not Investing 10% of wage on BTC but instead Investing whole year wage for all in once by following your method of DCA or lump sum buying on dump etc. And to get all gains in once for all. Instead of waiting 10 years.
88  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Just a fresh beginner. on: July 31, 2023, 04:39:33 AM
To get information about Bitcoin you must have to spend some time in Bitcoin Section where you will find my useful boards such as Bitcoin Discussion and Technical Discussion etc. One you started to spend time, in wallet, Technical, support, exchanges, Bitcoin discussion boards. You will find use full topics.

I know you must be thinking what topics is, what is section and thread, i hope i could share pic of those but i can't do that because as a newbie we can't even upload pic here. We have to get some rank and activity to gain the trust here and i think to assure the moderators that we are committed to this platform. PS: It's a piece of information for you.

I am also new here but have some knowledge about BTC and love to explore more and one thing made me love this platform which is this platform is officially one and the creators of BTC are present here. like the satoshi Nakamoto was here. Can you believe that. you ca literally see his some post and the first BTC trade of Pizza was also advertised here and that person is also here on bitcointalk.

89  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does cryptocurrency actually solve any problems? on: July 31, 2023, 04:31:22 AM
List is so long but i will try to write only few basic characteristics of Cryptocurrency that distinguish it from financial system.

  • Decentralization is the first thing that crypto provide us
  • Anonymity, self-custody, full confident on our funds, full control on our funds.
  • You get to make agreement/smart contracts that can become helpful even using the BTC blockchain as it consists of timelock feature to execute smart contracts after fulfillments of some conditions. And the main thing is all of such agreements will be Decentralized.
  • Decentralized means no one could interfere with the agreement terms or go against it.
  • In financial system you don't has such features.

Other than above, there are many other things that are unique in Crypto but are not present in Traditional Financial System.

I mentioned some features and such features have huge use cases. And i could also mention a lot but a newbie like me is smart enough to make some use cases out of such features. Like where anonymity, decentralization, Full control of our own assets, etc. came handy.
90  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: July 25, 2023, 05:31:23 PM
You are pretty new to this forum Dictator69, and so I am not sure if I can presume that you are also somewhat new to bitcoin, but it can take many years of regular bitcoin stacking (and accumulating) depending on if you are able to draw from other investments (to accelerate your lump sum investments into BTC) or if you merely have to rely upon cashflows that might only allow you to buy small amounts of BTC per week.. such as $100 per week or something like that, and surely I know that in some parts of the world, people might barely be able to buy $10 per week from their cashflows - especially if they have not otherwise built an investment portfolio that they can reallocate into bitcoin.

Anyhow, even though surely there can be some attempts to buy on dips, even for newbies, but I doubt that buying on dips is as important as just regularly buying until you get your BTC (and/or investment) portfolio up to a certainly large enough size that you start to feel that you are sufficiently prepared for BTC to go up, so that you might not have to continue to employ regular buys but you have the luxury of considering buying on dips as a means to either supplement or in some cases to replace the practice of regularly buying BTC.
Yeah, i am really new to this forum, but i am not new to bitcoin. Few months ago, i was interested in making money by doing trading. So, i started to spend some time in watching anything related to cryptocurrency either its BTC or Alts. So, i came to know that, before investing in BTC, i should be prepare for loss too, and i should have great analyzing skills which i definitely lack and i came to see many charts which makes no sense. But then i came to know about trading and holding. And there i knew, holding is for me. And i think in your last paragraph, you also tried to explain that holding or accumulating BTC is better than buying on dips. Like, means the same as trading. Someone buying at dips looking for short term gains while holder do'nt do that.

And i get it, from quite some time, i try to accumulate BTC but not able to do that. Many reasons don't know where to start. Well, one reason is to accumulate 1 BTC i need 8,495 days. According to stompix. Other is Crypto is ban in my country, so i think i should save some money in my local currency, so that when the bans will be lifted i could buy some BTC. I know i can still buy it but i don't want any issues. so, neat and clean is best for everyone.

Do you often right that long replies or its just me who needs that much explanation. Feeling like a blank slate.  Roll Eyes

I cited your post to show your image - but your image cut off some of the content.. so I reposted the full image from the twitter link that you provided.

This kind of news in regards to so many ETF applications pending should have some kind of upwards pressures on the BTC price, so if we are currently getting BTC price movement in the opposite direction, then it seems like good ideas to buy at various price points - and none of us can really know how much further the BTC price might dip.. or even if it is done dipping.  If you do not have much if any BTC at all, then likely you should be erroring in the side of buying regularly rather than waiting for lower BTC prices, but if you have been buying BTC in the sub $35k territories, and even down into the sub-$20k territories for the last 15 months or so, then you might not feel as much urgency to buy BTC on the relatively smaller dips that are currently happening and bringing us down from $32k into the sub-$29k prices, so far...
Thanks a lot for helping, i didn't have the authority to post image currently, so i posted source link too. And definitely these ETFs are putting some pressure on BTC price. If i am not wrong, then i think you are preferring to Dates. Like in the columns of Next Deadline and Final Deadline. We can see final deadline of most of the ETFs are in 2024 and that exactly when the Halving will start.

Now i started to doubt that BTC price might fall to $25k too. Because till 2024 we might not see any good news like ETFs and other so till then we might see more dumps. Well, that's good news for those who still didn't took entry but bad for those who took entry at current market price.
93  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: For newbies and plebs who want to self-study to become "traders" on: July 24, 2023, 08:35:15 AM
True, there is a saying for it as "All that glitters is not gold" i have read many stories in my school and childhood life. Still observing many events like these where big or promising projects, represent them as the best investments projects but instead they just luring you into phishing scams.

I totally agree with you and will always remain care full, i have seen many examples, like the recent one. SCAM or not ?. we should all remained careful either we are newbie or not because human mind is full of feelings and once a human mind falls for some phishing scheme it become difficult to get out of it. So best practice is not to look at such schemes and always do proper research.

I am glad for your journey and how this forum helped you a lot. This is very encouraging for me because I still have many doubts about this platform. For example, is my time worth enough that I spend it here? Because I can do other things that might bring money and knowledge to the table, is investing here worthy enough?

So far, I've read some good topics here, but I think I should extend my interest from the Bitcoin discussion to other sections too. Because I am mostly interested there. I just visited this section, and I will start to visit others too. The forum will get exciting for me when it adds some value to my time too. Till then, I am hoping to get some value. Wink

On a lighter topic, Valkyrie's ETF will be listed under the ticker "BRRR". Hahaha.
Haha, An ETF investor be like hey broo did you invested in BRRR. Cheesy Cheesy. the ticker names are funny though, Well the other company ARK shares have a good ticker name (AKRB) which is better, but this BRRR doesn't make any sense. I doubt why would traditionally people about many news outlets are talking about. Saying these are the main targeted audience of these upcoming ETFs. Because when companies will get registered via governments such people will start to invest in it.

I hope those traditional and well sophisticated people like this ticker BRRR Cheesy Cheesy I should make some meme on it.
97  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cryptocurrency Job Lists on: July 24, 2023, 07:35:48 AM
It's a shame, but that's the problem with the crypto job industry at the moment. That, and lack of education qualifications that are globally recognised and trusted. Once that kind of alternative is added, the sector will be a lot better.

The problem with CVs and portfolios are NDAs and length of jobs. They can also be forged, so companies only look for CVs and portfolios for already successful companies, which undermines application value for some.
It might be a shame for us because sometimes others get lucky and get the job while we don't due to our lack of experience. So, it's not a new thing in the crypto industry that employees demand experience. Because this field is so sensitive, most companies prefer to hire those who have good skills in the basics of law and in other fields, like all-over fielders. But most of the time, those companies that aim to scam others always hire a freelancer with good skills. They don't want their users or new users to be skeptical about their services if there are mistakes in the UI and Content.

But, as Ultrloa said, we should grab every opportunity we get. Because it will just add some experience to our portfolio, but that can also be forged in crypt space. But still, if you have good hands-on knowledge of the basics of law, that could add more value to their decision-making, and the more you put on the table, the better your chances of getting hired.
98  Economy / Economics / Re: Federal Reserve launches FedNow instant payment service on: July 24, 2023, 07:22:02 AM
I think the rank on this platform doesn't mean it will represent the level of knowledge one has. Because me as a newbie think that i better understand why we needed BTC and why we don't need fednow service. One of the many reasons are:

  • BTC is decentralized and not managed by some single entity or governments thus cannot be stopped by them while FedNow can be stopped by government.
  • BTC provides you full ownership without showing your personal identity while on FedNow you have to fill forums and have to integrate with Banks
  • Banks always manipulate your money whether you use their service FedNow to send from one place to another, the transaction could be used too, For bad purposes. But BTC transactions cannot be manipulated.
  • You have a limit on sending and receiving money through FedNow while if you are going to send or receive money on BTC core wallet or any SPV wallet then you have no limits.

I think these facts are enough to remind you why we need BTC and why we don't need some instant payment service.
99  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitcoins held by the US government on: July 23, 2023, 07:03:14 AM
I do not think they picked the wrong time, because halving is coming in 2014 and before that the market will make a dump due to such huge amount of BTC selling and thus will provide a good chance for every investor to enter the market at lower prices. That's why they are making efforts to approve ETFs and that's the only reason they are delaying the ETFs approval.

I was making another post reply but i came to know about this post and op you have shared a good piece of information which directly indicates that we are not going to see any uptrend or bullish cycle many people are talking about in 2024. Because that's not going to happen.
100  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Sells or Buy influence the market value ? on: July 23, 2023, 06:48:28 AM
in my idea this process of selling huge amount of BTC will create more supply in the market and if the supply increased the demand then there will be a decrease in the price of BTC. And if supply decreased over demand, then the price will increase. And i think i have heard another news few weeks ago just like it in which they are selling BTC in Batches.

Means to say, there is a topic made in which OP mentioned how many BTC are seized by US governments and those seized BTC are then sold by them and every time they sell it through on-chain. Bitcoins held by the US government.

few days back they also sold some seized BTC from the Silk Road and at that time market was also around 29k$ and in my opinion the current situation of the market is due to this issue. But such incidents also indicates that if they are selling this huge amount of BTC then there must be a buyer on the hands too willing to buy this BTC. So, we should overcome our fear and FUD. because such news might create panic and thus selling of BTC will increase the supply of over demand and this factor will decrease the price greatly.
