81  Economy / Economics / Re: Obvious insider trading by Intel CEO on: January 09, 2018, 04:45:16 PM
Another despicable CEO. Make money and just let the customers suffer. I don't believe that they build this vulnerabilities into their chips on purpose but the NSA sure will not notify them if these are discovered.

Quote
Intel says the sale was preplanned — but that plan was put in place months after it learned of the chip vulnerability
In the statement, the Intel representative said Krzanich's sale had nothing to do with the newly disclosed chip vulnerability and was done as part of a standard stock-sale plan.

Hah, who do they think would believe this.

Well this vulnerability is present in chips as old as 1995... im not sure if the NSA was already planning to do what they do nowadays, but currently im sure that Windows and Intel are working tightly with the NSA and allocating resources to their backdoors. Intel Management im sure is an NSA-Intel cooperation.

If it has taken decades to find this exploit then imagine how much will it take to find other exploits.
82  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can someone explain RaiBlocks? on: January 09, 2018, 04:28:05 PM
Looks like once again, coin claims to solve bitcoin's problems, coin fails to solve bitcoin's problems, coin ends up adding back what bitcoin is trying to solve (politics, human intervention, etc).
Its true that RaiBlocks story look like so many other coins, Time will tell as it is getting more an more used, what I recommend is that people look at its design give it a try.

The only thing why people are loving this coin is because it has no tx fee and the blocktime confirmation is miles faster than BTC and ETH,
Also and the main thing that people don't want to believe: It can scale, it can handle at least 7000 of transactions per seconds: https://i.imgur.com/oRpO8lc.gif

A lot of other coins are really fast, that means nothing. Ripple is fast and cheap, Dogecoin is fast and cheap... it really means nothing without taking into account the rest of factors. Im tired of people saying "this coin is cheap and fast in it's transaction... moon time fuckerss!!" it doesn't work like that.

Also like I said before, RaiBlocks employs human interaction when there's lack of consensus, this is a fatal mistake. Anyone could bribe these "representatives" and then you are fucked.
83  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Electrum Litecoin wallet vulnerability on: January 08, 2018, 04:03:55 PM
Keeping an Electrum Litecoin wallet on a VM won't mitigate this vulnerability. The only 100% safe way to mitigate it is to keep your wallet offline until you can upgrade to an updated version.

This was a more general remark, not particular about this specific Electrum vulnerability.

Keeping things separated on (properly protected) VMs can mitigate some attack surface and potentially avoid issues compared to keeping all your wallets on the same host. Of course with Spectre+Meltdown everything is up in the air currently in regards to securing things. Best is to keep very important stuff offline, if possible, I guess.

There are exploits that could escape the security that a virtual machine could bring, there is no such thing as complete isolation unless you are using an airgapped computer physically removing wifi cards and anything else.

Specte+Meltdown is insane and proves all computers are compromised by default... generation of private keys in completely offline computer was always the only way to keep your bread safe.
84  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can someone explain RaiBlocks? on: January 08, 2018, 03:53:17 PM
Okay, so I did some more research, and it seems (once again) similarly to what I remember reading with Decred, when there is lack of consensus, there are some, someway appointed "regulators" that will lead to a consensus. The moment I heard "representatives" and "voting" my alarms went ringing for scam. Looks like once again, coin claims to solve bitcoin's problems, coin fails to solve bitcoin's problems, coin ends up adding back what bitcoin is trying to solve (politics, human intervention, etc).

Still a joke compared to bitcoin, wouldn't hold this long term, but man do I regret not buying this thing a couple weeks ago... the gains have been insane. I wish I could get on the bottom of some of these hypejobs.

Doesn't sound very secure for me..

I'll look into it later, but I predict it suffers from some really exploitable game theory like all of these non PoW, non-blockchain coins.

The last addition of the hype before RaiBlocks that I saw was Hashgraph, which is being sold now as "the bitcoin killer" by youtuber-pumpers:

I mean the thing isn't even open source.. unbelievable.
86  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Can someone explain RaiBlocks? on: January 07, 2018, 03:45:04 PM
Does RaiBlocks have any substance or is another hype machine? it's performance is awesome on the market, what a pump, nice and clear 1:1 price profit against BTC following the dollar increase too unlike Ethereum and others which have only lost you money if you bought them in the past months.

This is how a good pumps looks like guys:

And this is how a shit pump looks like:

The volume of 24h trading on RaiBlocks is 2,829 BTC, very nice, enough to unload 100+ worth of BTC gains, you could have become rich from this one. Ahhhrrg fucking hate missing on all these moon missions. The graph always looks sweet when you zoom it out after the pump, nice and flat for a while which is where one should have bought, not now. Cardano and Tron have also delivered pretty solid gains.

So what is the next RaiBlocks which is currently flat?
87  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin vs "Dot Com 'bubble'" on: January 06, 2018, 05:32:11 PM
Yet we can be pretty sure that we are not at the tipping point yet.

This whole market is certainly a bubble. The question is how long can it be ridden upwards.

Indeed. It's a bit worrying, as the crash will be all the more harder. I guess it can't be helped though.

And BTW, even after the 80% Market cap drop some theorize will happen "soon", just like Amazon and others during the tech boom, the major coins that survive the collapse will reach new ATHs as they are integrated more fully into society.

So coins like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and sadly Ripple (very overpriced right now, but the banks support it, so it will stay) will be here for the long haul.

Being there for the long haul won't protect any coin from tanking hard though. Once the time comes, some coins will be hit harder than others, at which point we'll see how much of each respective price was real and how much of it was market manipulation and wishful thinking.

I wouldn't worry much, if you actually look at the numbers, you would see that we are still years away from being anywhere close to the peak of the dotcom bubble. Also consider that if bitcoin is the amazon of the dotcom bubble, bitcoin is still tiny to what it could become. As always, pics always work better than words so just look at this for some perspective:

So don't dump your bitcoin thinking it's over when we get to 6.7 trillion as a whole counting all crypto.
88  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is it the end...? on: January 06, 2018, 05:14:21 PM
There's no such thing. Non minable coins are still not safe. There's no real replacement for Proof of Work. Proof of Stake, DAG, or any other method aren't to be trusted, I wouldn't put a big amount of net worth on these systems.

There's no way around needing huge amounts of work to secure data in a decentralized network so far, unfortunately.

And for those that still didn't realize yet: ETH is going PoS soon, I think this year, so you can count ETH as non PoW soon.
89  Economy / Speculation / Re: Everyone and their mother is buying "cheap" penny coins, alarming analysis..? on: January 05, 2018, 02:06:03 PM
So I and most likely many others have noticed that in the past couple of months, everyone and their mother seems to want to buy every "cheap" coin that's on the market.
The masses, all these people, invest with little to no knowledge and think coins that are worth $0.10 could very well go to $100. These people have no idea what a market cap is.
Even if these penny coins have a market cap of $1 trillion, they would still want to buy these coins and still think they're cheap.

This game is filled with complete retards. I have to see in forums day after after day endless idiots shilling their scamcoin tokens claiming how Bitcoin is dead because it's too slow and cheap, which is a valid critique, if it wasn't for the case that while claiming that, you are selling me a total fucking shitcoin that solves none of the problems Bitcoin has and unlike Bitcoin, couldn't be used a censorship resistant store of value.

Number of coins I've seen people telling me they are going take Bitcoin #1's spot last year:

-Maidsafe
-Litecoin
-Ethereum
-Monero
-Ripple
-IOTA
-EOS
-Bitcoin Cash
-Hashgraph
-RailBlocks (this is the latest addition)

Seriously guys, fuck off, none of these projects cut it. And yes, I value the effort, and yes, it got some interesting stuff on them, but stop pretending you are going to be #1. I mean maybe Ripple gets at #1 at this point, but it's irrelevant, it's still a scamcoin. Enjoy the pumps while they last.
90  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Exchange withdrawal on: January 05, 2018, 01:57:24 PM
Hey guys,

Please tell me a good exchange where I can withdraw bitcoins for no fee?

I don't think there's a single exchange with free withdraws. Exchange's whole point is for the owners to make money on fees, and withdraws are typically charged with a fee all over the place.

Back then it used to be free.. not anymore.

GDAX claims they are free tho, not sure about that because I never used it.
91  Economy / Economics / Re: Obvious insider trading by Intel CEO on: January 04, 2018, 04:47:29 PM
After these Intel exploits have been released (they have been there since 1995 apparently... a total fuck up, and the patch will make computers slower it seems... a nightmare for Intel) its CEO sold all of his shares except the minimum amount one must hold to be the CEO (250.000 shares)

http://www.businessinsider.com/intel-ceo-krzanich-sold-shares-after-company-was-informed-of-chip-flaw-2018-1

This is almost as obvious as Roger Ver's insider trading adventures. I wonder if he will end up in jail.

What about that is insider trading, he sold his shares as soon as an announcement was made? That's exactly the opposite of insider trading is it not? Had he have sold them just before a price dip caused by such news then that would suggest insider trading.

No, the CEO of intel sold MONTHS ago. In November specifically. And he sold the right amount at the right timeframe to not be able to be blamed of insider trading:

Quote
To avoid charges of trading on insider knowledge, executives often put in place plans that automatically sell a portion of their stock holdings or exercise some of their options on a predetermined schedule, typically referred to as Rule 10b5-1(c) trading plans. According to an SEC filing, the holdings that Krzanich sold in November — 245,743 shares of stock he owned outright and 644,135 shares he got from exercising his options — were divested under just such a trading plan.

What a coincidence.... he made $39 million selling these shares before hit shits the fan. Im sure they didn't release the news 3 months after that to be able to have a margin of time to sell. Intel stock is getting dumped now and AMD is pumping.

93  Economy / Speculation / Re: The beginning of new trend : Ghana may invest 1% of its reserves in bitcoin on: January 03, 2018, 04:50:54 PM
If every country invested %1 of their reserves of bitcoin... im not sure what the price would be, but I suspect it would be high as fuck.

Anyone has the data? it would be an interesting thing to calculate. Just with the US and Russia... that's a ton of money. Not counting in goldbugs all over the world putting %1 of their portfolio on BTC which would be the sensible thing to do.. the prices get really high.
94  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [UFC 219: Cyborg vs Holm. NEW EVENT!] The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: January 03, 2018, 04:37:13 PM
I won money betting on a Khabib win and I won money betting on a Cyborg win, what a great way to start the year. I knew Khabib wouldn't lose his undefeated record. Took a bit of a risk with Cyborg but i turned out ok.

Now let's get Conor vs Khabib or Tony, or maybe Conor will make everyone wait and wait for Tony vs Khabib then fight the winner of that fight, but looks like Danna really wants Conor to defend the belt so that would be Tony vs Conor next.. not sure if im going to bet on any of these, it could go either way.
95  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Motosport General discussion tread --- Formula1, MotoGP, WTCC, ETCC, DTM..... on: December 31, 2017, 08:46:09 PM
Does anybody have a schedule of when the teams are showing their new cars?  And what are the spec changes for 2018 besides the Halo (ugh!)?

I have no idea, usually it's a couple of months before the first race.

About the halo, im actually very interested to see how it looks like and how it impacts aerodynamics. As much as I miss the good ol times of early 1990's Formula 1, something I always worried about a bit is seeing some gruesome shit live on TV due a fatal accident crushing a guy's head. The helmet and low placement and lateral bars have saved a lot of lives, but I remember seeing how I think it was in a GP2 race, a guy almost loses his head as the car rotated against a wall almost touching the edge of the concrete.

Another scary as hell moment was when Alonso almost gets crushed by a car:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8Y5Co1kZjQ&t=40s

And another brutal moment was when a piece of a car was loose and hit Massa right on the head:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzKc76-isOk

He crashed at full speed and miraculously saved his life.

A halo would have been very handy there. I just wonder if the material will not break creating even more danger, hopefully they have tested it a million times.
96  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Motosport General discussion tread --- Formula1, MotoGP, WTCC, ETCC, DTM..... on: December 30, 2017, 01:55:20 AM
True this is nothing maybe some publicity stunt. But like always people see this always from bad side so dont bother with this.

I don't think it was a publicity stunt at all, it's just another case of how if you speak against the current narrative, you get instantly insulted and basically forced to say that you were wrong in your statements, otherwise you risk your career as a public persona. It is insane that you aren't even able to say certain things anymore, and then get a mob of people basically forcing you to think like them or else you'll be hated and probably not be a part of a lot of advertisement campaign and other deals. This is the world we live in at nowadays.

And even if a kid should be able to wear whatever they want (because they don't even think of any of this, they just have fun dressing up) I should still be able to say that guys shouldn't be dressing up as princesses, but if you say that on social media.. you know what's next.
97  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [News Mode] The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: December 30, 2017, 01:16:33 AM
I'll wait and see how Khabib performs vs Barboza before doing any ratings.  Sometimes it feels like Khabib 'the Eagle', who wrestled bears when he was a kid (LOL), is overrated.  The bout vs Ferguson would have been his real test.  Too bad he chickened out.

No way Khabib is overrated... he is a legit beast. Im not ready to claim if he chickened out against Ferguson or not... im still yet to see him perform against a guy with a killer reach and and a killer striking skills, which is why I want to see Khabib vs McGregor, but Fergusson would have been a great matchup too.

I think Khabib should win tonight, when we get Tony vs McGregor next year, then we get the winner of this one vs Khabib, and then Conor can go back to boxing or go for a 3rd match against Nate. He is going to make a fuckton of money either way, can't go wrong.
98  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk.org have receive more than 8.000 bitcoin, wow on: December 30, 2017, 01:12:51 AM
Theymos is obviously loaded. Good for him, he was clever enough to realize the importance of Bitcoin and immediately started a Bitcoin forum and even got satoshi posting on it too... this forum will always be legendary because of that.

The donations... well back then, 50 BTC was nothing, nowadays is a fortune, I wonder if it is fair that the to have the donation badge you still need to donate 50 BTC as if nothing has changed? Or maybe it's good to leave it at the same amount to showcase how USD depreciates against BTC overtime.
99  Economy / Economics / Re: Martin Armstrong Discussion on: December 28, 2017, 04:55:43 PM
The gold is fungible, I dont have to carry the brick 10,000 miles across borders.    I sell my gold in one gold store this side of the Atlantic and the gold smith on the other side Atlantic gives that value gold to my creditor.   He doesnt care because its the same value both sides, he only wants to receive the value in the transaction so moving the physical item is not really needed especially.
If neither the seller not creditor are in a state of war, security is feasible and normal in many transactions, I'm not seeing a problem here.

This is a pretty weak model. You are trusting some people to not screw you up in the deal. You are also trusting that communications aren't compromised between the people involved, and I don't see goldbugs being very bright in this field.

Also, I don't see how you can simply move unlimited amounts of gold from A to B through this method without the government finding out. The gold store should be filling up records of these moves unless they are operating illegally and therefore at risk, I find it naive if you think you can get away with this. Bitcoin remains a way better solution to move these values around freely.
100  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NXT airdrop and B2X Fork on: December 28, 2017, 04:44:55 PM
yeah the snapshoot was over, youll get your IGNIS and B2X  when the market list it.Ah you need to make sure that the market support that kind of coin

You don't need to be holding your bitcoins in some exchange in order to receive a fork. If you hold your private keys in your own local wallet, you don't need to depend on an exchange having a certain policy when it comes to fork.

You hold them, the fork happens, then you access your coins through a fork's wallet (install on VM or additional computer just in case, treat all forks and in general altcoin software as malware) and once you access your coins (after emptying your private keys by moving them into other addresses) then you get the coins, you move into an exchange, and you sell them or whatever.
