81  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto Kingdom Ultima Version Development Thread on: October 17, 2015, 07:00:15 AM
I've signed up thrice now. All times I cannot login again. As saddambitcoin said I have also had issues with not receiving any reset mail (I was in contact with him about this).
The error-code is "Wrong credentials".

How can I sign up for the game?

I tried signing up on cryptokingdom.me to no avail.

Hi opennux, we will be releasing the production system later today. The database will be reset very soon, so you won't want to register until after that point. Watch this space for the go-ahead.

Ok, thanks!

I already signed up on the website about a month..? ago, and I assume I can use the same email/account?

I was just taking a tour around the pools and see that dwarfpool lists their top 20 miners.  4 of the addresses start with Poloniex.com and one with Bittrex.com.  I take it that these are mining directly to the exchanges for selling.

May not necessarily be for immediate selling (though it certainly could be).

Some people just use exchanges as convenient wallets.

Obviously this has downsides and I don't recommend using exchanges as wallets, but we can't deny it is common.

If you can set up mining, you can likely set up your own wallet. Miners are usually technically competent people. We can extrapolate from that. It would likely be a minority of miners only using it as a convenient wallet. It doesn't mean that all what one miner mines is sold. They could sell a large percentage and keep a small one.

Haven't seen or heard from tacotime in a long time. Is he still active in XMR development?

Someone else and me asked this two months ago as well. He is still active, just less public:

That would apply to quite a few I think and not just in XMR.

People are putting their nose to the grindstone. Those busy with working likely spend (or waste if you may) less time in public forums.

Hi Fluffy.  No it is me, Blockafett.  I can confirm that if you want but I would have to recover the account details as I scrambled the password - the reason is I didn't like how BCT was taking up all my time trying to argue with the dozens of posts a day attacking the main coin I am interested in coming from a minority of users here who get a kick out of bullying people and generally make life hell for anyone interested in that coin, now I just use the official forum and hardly look at BCT and life is much better.  I made this second account when I came back temporarily.

That's funny, because BlockaFett was online today at Today at 10:52:40 AM : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=340495 and you post is from Today at 12:30:06 PM.  Roll Eyes

XMR and DASH going down, nice:) That's where led stupid fighting XMR vs DASH lol  Grin

I remember few weeks ago each time when I read new posts in Dash thread, I saw Icesomething or someone else from XMR, trolling in Dash thread about instamine:)
And I saw Dash trolls here in XMR haha. Now both going down. It's very funny Smiley

More fights both ways please.Smiley

You are very very right mate. XMR community shoot oneself in the foot. They should focus on GUI wallet instead of trolling DASH.

Talking to yourself again eh?

...

If I'm not mistaken, it doesn't really matter how much RAM you have in windows (say a VM). It will eat up your RAM if it is 4GB or 8GB. I believe smooth or fluffypony said this. But if I am wrong, please correct me.

The next release will help with this issue.

Of course the next official release will not only help but actually solve this issue. The Memory requirements are actually below 100 MB.  In fact this has been the case for a while for those of us who are prepared to compile from source. My point is that many people who simply go to https://getmonero.org and download a binary do not see this at all, and this is bound to have a very significant impact on the price.

This discrepancy between the 9 month old official binaries and the source code available today has created a situation that is extremely dangerous for those who are short Monero. The risk of a brutal short squeeze following the release of 0.9 is very real.

Edit 1: I run both. The official 0.8.8.6 release and the recent compiled binaries. There is a reason why I run the 9 month old code. It provides very useful market information.
Edit 2: On Kubuntu 14.04 I get 8.04 8.18 GB for bitmonerod alone with 0.8.8.6 and this memory is not released.

(Not knowing much about it)... But does that make it possible for you to see how many are running which version?

Idk about that, I don't have the slightest idea of what I could do to help Monero personally since I'm pretty much technologically handicapped when it comes to cryptography.

For the non-technical contributors, there are always things to do in terms of improving the web site, social media, creative marketing ideas, outreach to merchants, users, and opinion makers, etc. And also crowdfunding of various Monero-related projects which not only helps the projects but gives you a direct say in what projects get done.

However, as a new arrival I'd suggest that you simply learn as much as you can first, then decide how you can help Monero succeed.

I have made a thread here with more specific tasks (and potential deadlines) that people can add to and sign up for!

Please check it out and contribute by adding new tasks, sign-up for tasks and debate/suggest other things.

https://forum.getmonero.org/6/ideas/2395/task-list-to-do-list

Good list. But please dont forget that one issue there is, that you cant use xmr directly to pay/donate or support projects/websites or whatever. Thus if you think monero has any future and you care and want to support any porject/website, please let them know you can support them through xmr.

The perfect example is recent community effort of asking tutanota to support donations with xmr:
https://tutanota.uservoice.com/forums/237921-general/suggestions/9968298-accept-monero-xmr-for-donations

I'm tutanota user myself (also protonmail), so I fully think that just letting to know privacy oriented service (if you use any) about being able to donate some xmr to them is useful.

After all, its all about privacy.  If privacy oriented services cant see and appreciate value of xmr, than I dont think anyone else will.

It's great. (I also saw you replied on the thread). All those things can be actionable tasks indeed. So please, add suggestions to the list. A task could be "Find 10 - 20 - 30 - whatever number - of privacy oriented services". Another task could be "Contact this or that service".
By quantifying it a bit and also having an always relatively up-to-date reference list of somewhat easily attackable tasks will hopefully make many more things happen.

I encourage people to read this list and contribute to it: (both suggesting tasks and also signing up for tasks).

https://forum.getmonero.org/6/ideas/2395/task-list-to-do-list

It is a suggestion of an up-to-date task list with smaller tasks needed to be done.

Fungibility cannot be obtained on a voluntary basis, period. Anybody suggesting otherwise is being irrational (which is surprising in the case of Antonopoulos).
That is why privacy is the only possible enabler of fungibility in cryptocurrencies.

I was watching his talk and coudn't stop thinking how it feels wrong as we still sit around one talking head and take his words as holy. I don't believe Bitcoin represents my best interests anymore.

kudos to dnaleor for asking a real question so we can see through the cracks.

don't speak for everyone here Smiley I had to google who this guy was. I guess this is the "benefit" of being late to the game.

No one should take anyone's word for holy. No smooth words said, no equine neighs. But some have better track records and reputation than others.

I do agree though that in the case of the video he is damaging his track-record and reputation.

What's positive to be said about him is he gets many more people on board. When you're on board you still gotta find your own way.

reading through the source and had a question:

What is the difference between a public address and a public integrated address?

It would be the wallet address and the payment ID.

Quote
make_integrated_address
make an integrated address from the wallet address and a payment id
   inputs:
      payment_id: string
hex encoded; can be empty, in which case a random payment id is generated
   outputs:
      integrated_address: string

split_integrated_address
retrieve the standard address and payment id corresponding to an integrated address
   inputs:
      integrated_address: string
   outputs:
      standard_address: string
      payment: string
         hex encoded

Thank you.

Smoothie, I'm not sure about the development, but what I can remember is that Mymonero doesn't support the integrated addresses (yet?) and that only simple wallet does. Someone would be able to elaborate.

I'd suggest shifting from mega as host to something else after the take-over happened. Dotcom stated it's no longer what it should be, i.e. it's compromised.

To what alternative, I don't know.

about zerocash. This is what can be found on the website

Quote
How does Zerocash work?

Zerocash extends the protocol and software underlying Bitcoin by adding new, privacy-preserving payments. In doing so it forms a new protocol that, while using some of the same technology and software as Bitcoin, is distinct from it. This new protocol has both anonymous coins, dubbed zerocoins, and non-anonymous ones, which, for purposes of disambiguation, we call basecoins. In contrast to Bitcoin's transactions, payment transactions using the Zerocash protocol do not contain any public information about the payment's origin, destination, or amount; instead, the correctness of the transaction is demonstrated via the use of a zero-knowledge proof. Users can convert from basecoins to zerocoins, send zerocoins to other users, and split or merge zerocoins they own in any way that preserves the total value. Users may also convert zerocoins back into basecoins, though in principle this is not necessary: all transactions can be made in terms of zerocoins.

There are some issues with this protocol

1) fungibility: by introducing basecoins, payment processors, exchnages, governments etc can force you to use these basecoins. When you use the zerocoins, you are flagged by default. Basically there is no difference when you use the ConfidentialTransactions-Sidechain or coinjoin.
2) zerocoin transactions will probably be larger, so people will try to avoid paying the fees by making as little zerocoin transactions as possible
3) due to the fact that eventually only people who want to hide a crime will use the zerocoins, it will be possible that when you get coins out, there is a possibility to link those coins to coins that were put into the zerocoin-pool. So it's tricky... Be aware of this or you'll use your anonimity.

compare this to XMR:
1) when mixin 0 isn't possible anymore (soonTM) all transaction outputs (except the minted coins) are mixed by default. So you can't be forced not to use mixing.
2) because all tractions will have a minimum mixin, you can't avoid paying the fees. Paranoid people pay more for higher mixin.
3) everybody uses mixin, so it's impossible to detect money flows on the network

I do not agree with the bolded.. It's the same argument we use for why xmr or other privacy tools are important.. Why do you claim only criminals want to use zerocoin?

C'mon man, thats not the monero way!

This is the monero way! >>> https://forum.getmonero.org/6/ideas/2392/privately-donate-to-privacy-oriented-services

Great idea, particularly the part about helping them get set up. Not every merchant and charity is tech savvy enough to do so on their own. I hope this idea gets funding (xmr and pledges for technical help) soon.

https://twitter.com/XMRpromotions/status/648353833769238528

Some examples of privacy oriented services/projects and their donate pages:

    https://www.torproject.org/donate/donate-options.html.en
    https://www.torservers.net/donate.html
    https://geti2p.net/en/get-involved/donate
    https://protonmail.ch/donate
    https://tutanota.com/community#donate
    https://tails.boum.org/contribute/how/donate/index.en.html
    https://www.whonix.org/wiki/Donate
    https://www.guerrillamail.com/
    http://sigaintevyh2rzvw.onion/faq.html

So if someone is using them, and would like to and is able to support them, maybe it would be worth telling them about xmr support.

I will send at least one message to everyone on the above list this week. Who else is willing to to the same?

Count me in.

Same.

Okay I contacted them! For those that are on Twitter you can see my tweets here:
https://twitter.com/XMRpromotions/with_replies

Some of them I have already talked to by direct message with mixed responses. Others I contacted by email. Be sure to let them know that we have people who can help them set up the donation interface if they just ask!

getI2P should be an easy sell since we plan to use I2P
Tutanota showed some interest in the past

Contact all of the above plus any more you can think of! Donation acceptance should be an easy sell to privacy focused organizations!

https://twitter.com/Puri_sm (privacy focused laptops) is also interested in accepting bbr and xmr (bbr shared the lead with us) payments. They said to contact https://twitter.com/crowd_supply who handles their btc payments for them now

You realise that you're shooting yourself in the foot in regards to labour spent and success just as long as you're contacting everyone with XMRPromotions as your handle.... right? In fact, I'd probably hazard a guess that the labour injected is actually generating more auto-toxic results than positive ones.

So I'm walking along the street and a guy comes up to me and he's wearing a lime green cap, and a lime green T-shirt with white lettering, and lime green shorts, and he's handing out lime green flyers, and he's smiling and he says "Excuse me sir have you...." - -

"NOOO." I would say. "Sorry I'm in a rush I've got an appointment with a dentist who's just died and he's on fire and I... sorry... bye."

He could have just been asking for the time for all I care, but it's "NOOOOooo sorryyyyy bbye bye".

Now consider, a man with a NORMAL haircut, wearing NORMAL clothes, and for all intents looking NORMAL, with a NORMAL attitude and everything about this guy is just NORMAL..... and he comes up to me and he's like "Hey do you have the time?"

"Yes." I would say, "It's 2:15."

"Thankyou o wise one." he might retort.

"Anytime o inquisitive one. My pleasure indeed." I might add. etc etc etc etc

The moral of the story is: Why are you dressed up in a lime green T-shirt?

Just take it off man, seriously, you'd have more results. This isn't some cunting multinational corporation that despatches students to stand on street corners handing out advertisments.

It's a waste of labour relative to success. Just take out the crap and you're good to go.

Good post rangedriver! I agree.

But I would also like to commend "xmrpromotion's" effort very much. He's doing a good job! And best of all, he takes the community critique/suggestions seriously, and improves his approach when suggestions are given. Many more people should do like that.

Hey xmrpromotions..? Yes, you! You are doing a fine job, keep improving, keep up the effort. The more effort that is done, the more it inspires others to do more too.

A right is something that is given to you. It can be taken away from you at a whim.

This is false. What you are describing is a privilege.

A right cannot be taken away... only violated. The enumeration in the U.S. Constitution does not create, grant, or define the rights of the people. It merely observes a few important ones (not to imply that all of the infinite unobserved rights are unimportant).

Alexander Hamilton was very much against the inclusion of the Bill of Rights, fearing the exact perspective quoted above—the implication that any right not observed is surrendered, or that the Constitution is defining The People's only protections, when in reality the Constitution places no limitations on The People, and explicitly defines the only powers the government shall ever have, because only people (not organizations) can have rights.

Quote from: Alexander Hamilton
I go further, and affirm, that Bills of Rights, in the sense and to the extent in which they are contended for, are not only unnecessary in the proposed Constitution, but would even be dangerous. They would contain various exceptions to powers not granted; and on this very account, would afford a colorable pretext to claim more than were granted. For why declare that things shall not be done which there is no power to do?

That's a whole larger discussion about semantics and the definition of rights that's probably not suitable here, nor do I really care to partake. Just don't conflate a freedom with a right. Note that there are large disagreements as to what "rights are". The original point still bears hearing; that no matter what you're promised, or what you think you're entitled to, it can be taken away from you by people with more power.
