... and look a look at how it's grown, especially in the past couple of years. I think it's safe to say the site income has grown exponentially in the past couple of years along with the influx of new users, and the increased popularity of bitcoin in general.

Lol, where are you getting this? Because every metric suggests otherwise, as in down ~50% over the past 2 years.
The site has grown a lot in the past couple of years, there are a lot more users and a lot more site activity as well. Same with bitcoin in general, there are a lot more people interested in it than a couple years ago.

So I think it's safe to assume that if you're planning on advertising on Bitcointalk, it'll cost quite a bit more than it did a couple of years ago due to how much more traffic the site gets, since your ad would be getting many more impressions.

I will not be paying you hourly or a fixed price. I am not searching for a freelancer, I am searching for a partner who can help the wheels turn on this very interesting project.
So are you willing to pay whoever can complete this task for you then? Right now it almost sounds like you want all this work done for free, which is not going to happen when looking for custom web development.
83  Other / Meta / Re: If you want to buy BitcoinTalk, how much would you offer theymos ? on: March 26, 2016, 10:02:25 PM
A flat million dollars for it... Would you like to have it @theymos? Grin But yeah, I'll have to first sell off my property for that. Tongue

BTW, as far as I can guess, he won't even accept the offer of 2 million dollars right now. He'd take even more than that.
I wish I could buy this forum but I dont think theymos would sell it.Anyway hypothetically speaking if I had to make an offer to theymos,I would offer him amount equal to 10 years of forum revenue
Even that might not be a good deal for theymos.. This forum has only been around for about 7 years, and look a look at how it's grown, especially in the past couple of years. I think it's safe to say the site income has grown exponentially in the past couple of years along with the influx of new users, and the increased popularity of bitcoin in general.

Well for me it is even worse:

Interesting discovery; I wonder why this is. I've notified theymos, however it might take time until he notices this. This is caused due to some posts not being counted (e.g. Moved threads). Take CyrusV for example, the difference for him is over 1000 due to many such threads.
Do you know what conditions cause a post to not be "counted as a post"? IIRC posts in the Archival section aren't counted, but I suspect some other sections aren't being counted as well. I remember seeing a thread in the Meta section discussing the possibility of certain boards to not count towards post counts, which is why I'm curious.
86  Other / Meta / Re: i have a question, is this against forum rules or not? on: March 02, 2016, 10:34:57 PM
If it has links to torrents shouldn't matter, torrenting is legal in Canada I think, people pay an extra tax for it
You don't pay extra taxes to your ISP to torrent in Canada. As long as you're torrenting legally, ISPs have no problems with torrent traffic.
87  Other / Meta / Re: idea--- A decentralised trust system on: February 26, 2016, 12:20:58 AM
The other thing to remember is that you aren't forced to follow the default trust system. You're able to make up your own trust list, picking and choosing users who you believe are reputable, and who leave reputable ratings. Or if you're generally happy with the default trust system except for a few select users, you can just exclude them from your trust list.

I think that if everyone's trust ratings count then there wouldnt be pressure on people in DT1
I think that would be a very bad idea, as mentioned before due to alts. Plus, even if there was a hard limit of one account per user, why would you trust a rating from a brand new, unknown user as much as you would from a reputable user with tens of thousands of dollars traded on this site?
88  Other / Meta / Re: My proposal to reduce signature campaign spamming on: February 15, 2016, 03:24:10 PM
very little or no policing of posts going on
Why should they ? It's not their job.
That's fair, but it gives their site a poor reputation. After seeing users spamming posts while wearing signatures of websites, I'm definitely not interested in visiting or using the site being advertised. I suspect there are other people who would feel the same way about this.

Do you appreciate reading through threads when a good portion of the posts are spam or make no sense? I don't, and often that's what signature campaign spammers seem to do. If you cut down on the spamming signature campaign participants, I think you'd be cutting down on these sort of spam posts too. Obviously not all of them, but a good chunk of them.
89  Other / Meta / Re: My proposal to reduce signature campaign spamming on: February 15, 2016, 02:52:45 PM
just bickering among ourselves for sure won't solve the problem
Then how do we show we are better than them  Tongue Tongue Tongue  I don't want to be a human , I am GOD  Angry
Well I tried it with reporting users, from the way it was received I'd say I did something of significance.
I think that definitely helped to clean up a bunch of those Off-Topic, 2 word spammers, but it seems that new spammers continually pop up even as the old ones are banned. Seems that the most problematic campaigns are the massive ones (like Yo-Bit) where there is very little or no policing of posts going on - I think that's the real root of the problem. If they did some manual work looking at the post history of some of their participants, and removing the spamming participants on their own that would benefit all of us.

However, would it be possible to store it on a PC and on a NAS, as a kind of backup.
Storing a backup of the blockchain on a NAS would be possible, yes, however it might be a bit of a pain copying 60GB worth of data to the NAS every few days or week, if you want to back it up that often. You could look at an incremental backup scheme (only backing up changes since the previous backup) and that would speed up backing up the blockchain. I'm not so sure I'd bother backing up the Bitcoin blockchain at all, just because it seem like Bitcoin-Qt doesn't corrupt the blockchain very often, and even if it does, there are re-scan and re-index options built into Bitcoin-Qt to attempt recovery of a corrupt blockchain. In the worst case, you'd just need to re-download the blockchain which would probably take a day or two, and then you'd be back up and running.

This is in your case mate ! For me, it would more like a week or two Roll Eyes. I'm not the owner of an high-quality connection Cry...
If it would take you a week or two to download the entire blockchain you should reconsider running a node on that connection. I suspect you have a fairly low upload speed as well, so running a node on that network wouldn't benefit the Bitcoin network much at all.

So what should I do ? I could film it, this way this couldn't be faked. However I wouldn't know where to put it Undecided. That's quite a big mess for not something really important ! We're not talking about money.
It's not about faking something, more about some "proof" I could link. I would like to see the exact wording of their messages, that's all.

So if I only quote it, will it be fine ? I wouldn't risk my reputation for spotting alt accounts of a scammer.
If you post PM quote or screenshot proof that should be fine before - it's been done before and has been considered proof enough. As long as you aren't modifying the screenshots or quotes, your reputation shouldn't be at stake.
93  Economy / Reputation / Re: Known alts of anyone: User generated on: January 30, 2016, 06:55:35 PM
Posting a screenshot seemed to work fine for me.
I recommend you do a screenshot as quotes are more easily edited.
I wouldn't make that argument:

In reality, both quotes and screenshots are incredibly easy to edit, and I wouldn't give more credit to one over the other.

This is actually possible to run Bitcoin Core on a RPi 2 and to store the blockchain on a NAS ? This could (or maybe not, I d'ont know) be a good idea.
I used to run the blockchain off of my NAS and I never had any issues doing so. However, I did that with a Windows machine running Bitcoin-Qt, so I'm not sure if that would differ from running the node on an RPi (I suspect there would be no difference though - just create a folder, and then mount the network location to it).

One thing to note if running the blockchain from a NAS is that the blockchain can only be used by one device at a time. So, if you're wanting to run a node on your PC, as well as your RPi (for whatever reason), you won't be able to.

Thank you for your explanation. I don't think that I'll ever need to run it on both my PC and my RPi 2 at the same time, at least with the same folders. Would it be possible to run it on both my PC and my RPi 2, but with two separated blockchain files on the same NAS ?
I think that would work as well. IIRC, Bitcoin-qt "locks" the blockchain when it starts up, so that another application won't be able to use it. I suspect having two copies of the blockchain in different locations would bypass that lock restriction. The only downside is that you'd be storing two copies of the blockchain, so you'd be using 120GB instead of 60GB.

I see that my main account is already linked to this backup account, so I don't need to mention that. Wink

However, one that isn't on the list yet is hilariousandco / hilariousetc:

hilariousandco: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=164822
hilariousetc: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=397737

Linkage is between the trust on the two accounts - hilariousandco left a neutral rating on hilariousetc explaining that it's his backup account.

Wow Google Chrome persisted this sites cookie through an operating system shutdown from the battery running out on my laptop...Anyway...

I figured I'm not seeing that money anytime soon, maybe in the future like other people said.

Thanks to everyone that made a suggestion or comment, I pretty much knew this from the beginning but I figured it doesn't hurt to at least ask.

I don't manually run TRIM on my SSD's, does it run automatically? I tried using testdisk (as suggested) but it is unusable on my system for whatever reason. The partition type keeps coming up as Linux even though it is an NTFS partition. My SSD's are in RAID0 though so that may be what's throwing it off I don't really know too much about how all that works.

Have you tried this idea?

Is TRIM enable on the SSD? If not, it may still be possible to recover.

edit: to check, open up cmd and run:

> fsutil behavior query disabledeletenotify

A return of 0 means TRIM is enabled

I've used testdisk with variable success in the past (not on SSD mind you), it's my only recommendation unfortunately..
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk

That's a quick and easy way to test to see if TRIM is enabled on your SSD's.

Is there any reason one could not run a full bitcoin node on a Raspberry Pi 2? I see these are very cheap now, just $37. Add a 32GB SD card and you have a fully functioning node right?

Blockchain is currently over 60gb.....
.. and constantly growing.

If you really wanted to run a node on something like a Raspberry Pi / Odroid / Banani Pi you could look at hooking up an external HDD to the unit to hold the blockchain, or running the blockchain off of a NAS (if you have the spare resources to do so).

I'm also surprised that the Bitseed hasn't been mentioned yet either. It's pretty expensive compared to buying your own small board computer and external HDD, but it looks like a decent plug n' play solution for a bitcoin node.

You could take a look at this service: http://www.walletrecoveryservices.com/

The guy who runs that website has helped out dozens of people recover their wallets from forgotten passwords. Obviously it's a massive long shot - you generated a random 63 character password with lower/upper/symbols/numbers and like DannyHamilton said, good luck brute-forcing something like that with current hardware and software.

Other than Wallet Recovery Services, I'd say your only option is to keep the wallet as-is, and wait a decade or so until brute-forcing passwords like that is possible, and then try to brute-force it.

so this guy got banned because his mistake right, not the seller ? because i'm seller to i just want to know this problem.
Exactly. If you take a look at his post history, it contains a ton of copy/paste posts from other users which is an instant perma-ban on these forums.
