So what's the next step after Segwit is activated?  we have to wait until another coin activate to start  swaps? or how VTC pretend to take advantage of be the first coin in implement this feature? any plans?  Huh

We have plans to test/ implement the lightning network shorty after SegWit it activated.  We are looking to get about 20k VTC in donations to make this happen quickly .We are a little over halfway there . Donations are appreciated.

"Please update wallets immediately to avoid losing coins"

I don't understand this part. It's a softfork right?
Are people really losing coins or is it just something to say to make people update?

If that's it, haha pretty creative I guess.

I think it's just hyperbole to get people to update, but maybe miners could get screwed if they don't update?
miners will not be forked off of the network. Segwit uses BIP9 versionbits

Well with wrong code they hard forked their coin the last time.
Everyone had to downgrade.

So I'm asking, is this the Segwit with wrong code & just hardfork because YOLO or is it a cool marketing stunt?

Well after we reach the 75% threshold the new rules will activate and old version blocks will start to be orphaned, so there is a danger of coin loss if you don't upgrade your wallet. This is the release with the correct code.

Softfork means it is backwards compatible with old wallets. So are we hardforking (not compatible with old wallets) instead of softfork now?

Old wallets will continue to sync with the chain and be able to issue transactions but newly generated blocks coming from old wallets (ie blocks with nVersion 4 or less) will no longer be accepted as valid after activation. This is the same behavior as Bitcoin/Litecoin.

But Bitcoin/Litecoin don't advertise with upgrade now otherwise you will loose coins.
What you are saying in ELI5: It is not mandatory to upgrade but recommended. Except for the solo miners and pools.
Normal users (non miners) won't be generating new blocks hence they can stay on old wallets. Why do you give them the suggestion that they will loose coins?

The warning is for everybody. Like James said If exchanges, miners, and pools are using old wallets they will continue to sync with the chain and be able to issue transactions but newly generated blocks coming from old wallets (ie blocks with nVersion 4 or less) will no longer be accepted as valid after activation. This is the same behavior as Bitcoin/Litecoin. In short you could be getting blocks or coins on the old wallet , but if you transfer them to a new wallet they would be rejected, hence how you could loose coins.

Thank you for taking the time to explain. I hear what you are saying but having difficulties to understand.
How come the warning is only for vertcoin users and not for Bitcoin/Litecoin users? Are you saying that if Bitcoin/Litecoin users on old wallet (pre segwit wallet) transfer coins to new wallet (segwit wallet) they could loose coins? I looked it up on https://bitcoincore.org/en/2016/10/27/segwit-upgrade-guide/ and it says:

Quote
Full nodes prevent their users from accepting any blocks that violate any of Bitcoin’s consensus rules. In a soft fork upgrade such as segwit, new rules are added, and any nodes that don’t upgrade won’t know about those new rules. This is not a problem: the segwit soft fork is designed to allow non-upgraded users to continue using Bitcoin the same way they did before the soft fork.

Quote
If you don’t want to upgrade to segwit and you aren’t a miner, you may simply continue using your current full node software. Segwit is implemented as a soft fork, so you don’t need to upgrade. You also don’t need to upgrade any wallets that connect to your full node; they will continue working as they did before (see the wallet section below for details).

I don't think the behaviour is the same for Bitcoin/Litecoin.

It is the same behavior, they just aren't as close as us. From the link you provided under not upgrading :

"However, if you accept transactions with fewer blocks of confirmation (such as a single block or two), please note that after a soft fork activates, there is a small increased risk that full nodes which don’t upgrade will temporarily accept invalid blocks. The situation will resolve itself within a few blocks as upgraded miners continue to enforce the new segwit consensus rules, but there is no guarantee that transactions shown as confirmed in the invalid block will continue to be confirmed in valid blocks."

sending some more hash in the next few days, we may get it to activate soon at this rate

Thanks ! I saw that. That's quite the hashrate you have . How many cards you have ?

only a couple myself, im renting the rest to bump it up a bit. looks like a few other people are today also which is great
Yep, I joined today too with rented power, want to make this SegWit happen.

You guys are great! Thanks for your support!

There is almost no doubt that Segwit will be adopted by the network.
But the position of large exchanges is unclear. It's time to contact them.

89  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MONA] Monacoin LAUNCHING 2014/01/01 0:00 GMT on: March 16, 2017, 02:25:40 AM
Monacoin is going to softfork from march 8.
https://monacoin.org/en/download.html

BIP68, BIP112, and BIP113 soft fork
BIP141, BIP143, and BIP147 soft fork
Activation for the segwit soft fork is being managed using BIP9. At the beginning of the first retarget period after segwit's start date of 8 March 2017 miners can update the Monacoin client to Monacoin Core 0.13.2 to signal for segwit support. When a super-majority of 75% is reached segwit is activated by optional, and if 75% of blocks within a 10,080-block retarget period (about 10.5 - 14 days) signal support for segwit, after another 10,080 blocks, segwit will be required.

I love monacoin community....
Please update...

sorry. I am not very good at English.

Any monacoin devs around ? If so pm me . Us at vertcoin would like if you went auxpow .

92  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Vertcoin [VTC][ANN] Segwit Activated | ASIC Resistant Decentralized GPU Mining on: March 15, 2017, 11:37:16 PM

Vertcoin is GPU Mineable Bitcoin

Verthash is currently in testing

What is Vertcoin?

Vertcoin is different. Unlike many other coins you will see on this forum, Vertcoin has a purpose, a goal which drives the community and developers to constantly innovate. Committed to the decentralisation Satoshi originally dreamed of, Vert has consistently evolved over time to combat the threats to this dream. As a result, one of our main features is ASIC resistance, having forked successfully to a new proof of work algorithm called "Lyra2RE" upon discovering that Scrypt-N ASICs were being developed, and Lyra2reV2 after discovering a botnet. We believe that by keeping the mining process in the hands of those with generalised, low-risk, consumer grade hardware, we can lower the entry requirement for miners, increasing the number of individuals mining the coin which in turn leads to true decentralisation.

Our primary innovations

Current hashing algorithm: Lyra2REv3

Old White paper: https://vertcoin.org/downloads/Vertcoin_Lyra2RE_Paper_11292014.pdf

Our revolutionary new proof of work algorithm, designed to be ASIC resistant at its core, made its debut at block 208301. In addition, responding to calls from our miners, Lyra2RE has a ~15% power usage reduction on X11. Lyra2RE has replaced Scrypt-N, our previous proof of work and a Vertcoin innovation in itself, in order to defeat the ASIC miners that were released for it. The fork has successfully been carried out, once again making Vertcoin a decentralised, ASIC-free zone and fulfilling Vertcoin's promise to hard-fork if an ASIC threat becomes apparent, a promise which Litecoin made, but didn't deliver on.

Is it me that i noticed that all of the quoted above are wearing edgeless account, is it a coincidence that probably only 1 person is doing this lmao.

This is sad. If you are a larger investor in the ICO like I was , you lost about 40%. You should never loose after an ICO.

If you sold at a 40% loss, that's your own stupidity and you deserve to lose. You're not an investor when you sell the investment you made only a few months after making it... you're a speculator. You haven't even given the project time to get going yet, LH Tokens or LaborX are still in the works and you should have known from the ICO - especially if you are a larger investor as you claim - that there is expected to be at least a year until the ball really gets rolling, and yet you expect to be profiting from your "investment" already. You're more like a scalper that bought tickets for a show that didn't sell out and now you're whining about not being able to unload the tickets.
I didn't sell anything yet . You expect for your investment to be worth atleast what you put into it especially an ICO.( Or what's the point ?) You don't buy a share of stock for $30 and receive a share worth $15 do you ? Do they tell you to hold onto that stock and it'll be worth more one day ? Nope .

In every ICO there are winners and losers, therefore always remember never invest more than what you can't afford to lose.

That's right. Invest in ICO or anywhere always have a risk to lose your money
I agree with you don't invest you can't afford to lose it.

I never invest what I can't afford to lose . Still disappointing . You'd think they would have released a dedicated wallet before the coins .The devs must be dumping

Trying to activate it . Need 75%. One big miner with about 30% is holding us back

sorry for question - will segwit be at VTC? and when?

Yes segwit will be on vertcoin. When depends on how fast pools and miners upgrade their wallets. You can track the progress here: https://vtconline.org/sf.html

ok, got it straight with 0.11.0.1 except nothing works smooth.
can't import old keys, only wallet.dat made in 0.11.0.1 works in 0.11.0.1,
will wait until dust settles itself

Before we released 0.11.0.0 we released a final pre-segwit wallet version . You have to update the wallet from v0.10.1.0. Keys and such from older wallets aren't backward compatible. We made a blog update about it.

IMPORTANT!!

In order not to lose any coins, update to the latest wallet immediately!

hmmm, which one is which ?
30.2-i686-w64-mingw32
30.4-x86_64-w64-mingw32
could you please post more regular set of files with clean structure.

tbh nobody gives a shit about that segwit business except for geeks and those pretending to be, at least for now.
take your time, and make things straight...plz...

Which wallet are you looking for ? Also, we are the geeks that care about this kind of stuff . Wink
