Hi community, if someone of you has a server on hand with a changeless ip address, please contribute to SOIL in setting up a permanent node. Node setup for Ubuntu 14.04: apt-get update apt-get dist-upgrade apt-get install git binutils bison gcc make libgmp3-dev build-essential bash < <(curl -s -S -L https://raw.githubusercontent.com/moovweb/gvm/master/binscripts/gvm-installer) echo "[[ -s \"$HOME/.gvm/scripts/gvm\" ]] && source \"$HOME/.gvm/scripts/gvm\"" >> ~/.bashrc source ~/.bashrc gvm install go1.4 gvm use go1.4 --default git clone https://github.com/soilcurrency/go-ethereum.git cd go-ethereum make gsoil
./build/bin/gsoil account new ./build/bin/gsoil --maxpeers=100 console
--Alternative mod by altsheets (Thanks)-- herePost your node string here in our thread, together with the ip address of the server. i.e.: enode://somehexcode@45.63.84.6:39338 Thanks

People pm me saying exchanges would like to see a more advanced block explorer. Well, the one of expanse seems similar to me (just as an example). I think tweets and emails to the exchanges would help more. (Personally I see this project as a long term one. No need to hurry.) I see that you would like to see us as soon as possible on an exchange. This can't be done without you. https://twitter.com/SOILcoin

Unfortunately does not work. Generally it should work. Other linux users with this problem? Thanks for your feeback.

I just want to ask why OTC thread still not listed in OP, because devs do nothing to get this fork listed on exchanges. Is it too hard to put 1 link?
Are you refering to the WTS/WTB soil thread? It's already there.

how to install and configure (testnet) soil - stepwise manualHere is my fabulous stepwise manual how to install the testnetsoil node, with a few tricks and shortcuts to make my life easier. Shorter manuals are possible, of course - but I developed that one, because I wanted to understand each and every step, and make my system easy to use. And -yet unsolved(*)- as secure as possible, by locking down the firewall. Perhaps this helps anyone tonight. The firewall iptables (*) I have understood better by now, so I might create a solution for that in the next days. If you know your iptables, feel free to try. My goal was to INPUT & OUTPUT drop ALL, apart from the soil traffic (and ssh of course) ... to create a hyper-secure node. Anyways, these are the steps that I took to get the testnet node running, attached, DAG generated, and CPU mining enabled: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1176709.msg12469498#msg12469498 init https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1176709.msg12469524#msg12469524 firewall? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1176709.msg12469824#msg12469824 delete chain, start anew https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1176709.msg12469900#msg12469900 DAG generation https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1176709.msg12469934#msg12469934 ready https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1176709.msg12469987#msg12469987 what is DAG https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1176709.msg12470034#msg12470034 hashrate https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1176709.msg12476297#msg12476297 some more iptables experiments https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1176709.msg12476773#msg12476773 iptables -P OUTPUT DROP (unfinished) https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1176709.msg12476860#msg12476860 how to report your ... admin.addPeer('enode://... https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1176709.msg12476984#msg12476984 idea how to OUTPUT DROP If anyone wants to make a shorter manual from that - yes please. thank you for the quick reply. so unlike the other ether variants, i will not need to perform the add node command to install nodes to see the network once the production package is released upon launch? sorry for the clarification question.
yes, you will not need to perform the add node command.

github sources currently don't compile.
file protocol.go, line 45
NetworkId is missing
Yes. It's easier to just add the NetworkId and the genesis tomorrow. When you will provide the NetworkId for main net?

How many other Ethereum clones are you going to be launching in the coming months?
theres absolutely no plan to launch any other coin. we are married to this project for the long run. as it is, im working 8-10 hours a day on it, and once we launch, 12 hour days will be normal i think. what we're planning with SOIL in no way ends with the launch, it gets more intense after that, theres much much more to be done. im dedicated to bringing SOIL to its end product, and am under no illusion that it can be done in a short time. im swinging for the fences with it, certainly, but ive got a detailed roadmap for what directions i need to concentrate on when we launch, aside from managing the community here, and being available to answer questions. There has been problems with all of the Etheruem launches. Tons of blocks get mined in the first 8 to 24 hours.
You should fix the difficulty adjustment algorithm before launching.
with a 35 second targeted blocktime, the average number of blocks we will be mining in any given day will be around 2500. that will lead to 15,000 SOIL being minted. in reality, from watching how mining on ethereum has gone, or expanse, and theres a lot of 2 minute blocks, and just as many 5 second ones. in implementing dr. kimoto chan's (of megacoin fame) gravity well difficulty algorithm, which readjusts difficulty every block (instead of every epoch of 2016 blocks with bitcoin, for example), to ensure that SOIL follows its intended distribution curve while also keeping the network stable in the long term. this means, if a large number of miners and pools throw a lot of hashing power at SOIL over the first few days, difficulty will be automatically adjusted to take this into account and prevent a crippling difficulty later on due to early massive mining activity. using the gravity well also keeps 5000 blocks from being mined in a day, and this keeps the coin secure and equitable for all miners and users of the coin. its greatest affect is seen when a coin is mined on a multipool which features profitability switching. when miners are pointed to a coin, the hashrate increases, block times would natually shorten. when miners are pointed away again, global hashrates decrease leading to longer block times. in order to keep the distribution of SOIL along a predictable path, using the gravity well will help keep us on track. without using the gravity well, a megaminer with a high hashing GPU rig could skew blocktimes far too low, which would create a massive difficulty upon a new difficulty epoch, which would drive miners away and can make a coin stagnant and eventually can kill it. at that point the only real measure to treat it is a hard fork on the coin, or simply grind out the mining at the high difficulty until enough blocks are found to reach the next difficulty epoch. along with the dagger algorithm, use of the kimoto gravity well will help fight against malicious intent from miners by constantly readjusting according to the global hash rate after every block. this fits in well with our stated aim to try to keep a democratized mining activity available to everyone. So you are changing the difficulty adjustment algorithm from what Ethereum used? No need to change the algorithm, but the parameter to let the difficulty adjust faster, will be adapted in the main-net release.

Community, we're not too far away from the launch. We would like to have a couple of things ready on launch day. A faucet is one of these "things". It would be nice, if you guys could test it. You should recive 1 SOIL (Test-Net). http://108.61.188.18Thanks!
