I tried clearing the cache, and would try clearing the data but I'm not sure that would be safe (would I lose the pairing?).

Lets get bitcoin to the next level by replacing the current inefficient and chaotic substrate of society that is based on violence and one size fits all "solutions" with one that is self-ordering and based on voluntary interactions.

If you have bitcoins you have less to worry about how the governments have done a poor job of solving problems.

Let's be positive, and recognize that the market does seem to work magic, even though it is really just the unleashing of human creativity and productivity in ways that no politician or bureaucrat can possibly imagine.

Pick one thing you can do that will help rebuild a better society, and concentrate on that.

Here's one example that I think really illustrates the point: car registration and driver's licensing. Our (at least the American version) current way of doing things is ridiculous. We have government's controlling the licensing and car plates, when that is clearly corporate welfare that protects the insurance companies and their profits. Why not instead place the regulatory burden back onto the insurance companies by making them handle licensing and plate issuance. The insurance companies would own the plates, and if you are paid up you can keep the plates on your car. If you stop paying, they repossess the plates. Anyone driving without a plate is uninsured, so other motorists can take notice and be more careful around them. A good insurance company might have a better plate, that can use simple tech to indicate whether or not the current driver has a license and possibly even what skill level they have shown. This allows for more freedom while also allowing people to take more control of their own safety.

Now apply that sort of thinking to any other thing that government currently does and see how that will transform society to the point that we no longer need government.

If the IRS comes down on Fr33Aid it will hit the social networks like a ton of bricks, showing just how harmful the IRS is. The IRS has nothing to gain from this and lots to lose, and I know the folks running the organization are smart enough to mention that to the first agent that messes with them.

Yes, exactly. The key generation from the seed is done in the client with no need for a connection to the server. Then you could export the private keys and import them into another wallet. Then that wallet can scan the blockchain to recreate the accounting of your balance.

Partly, its not in my core competency. I have more than enough keeping me busy just running and improving the business. And I am a big fan of competition, so it just wouldn't seem right for me to be "the" Shire Silver bank when others might want to give it a try. Essentially I'm trying to move more towards being a wholesale manufacturer of the Shire Silver model alternative currencies, with franchised retail outfits.

Have you exited the program and restarted it? I've seen it not update the display even when the actual transaction has been long confirmed.

BTW, those transaction IDs don't seem to be valid, at least not according to blockchain.info

And remember to always send with a transaction fee.

Not sure if there's anything that can be done other than wait. Maybe some expert friend can help you using Armory with importing of private keys or something.

Electrum doesn't host your wallet, just the blockchain.

Traditional wallets hold both your private keys and a copy of the blockchain. But the blockchain is huge and getting bigger all the time.

So if the Electrum servers (there are multiple) all went down what you would do is export your private keys from your Electrum wallet and import them into another wallet. Then you would be able to spend your bitcoins again.

I didn't say that you can solve everything with just database tuning, but did imply that it was at least one of the things they might be doing. There's a whole lot of speculation going on here, and except for Gox mentioning that they were adding servers and moving their database off of the front end server, that's all it is - rampant and mostly pointless speculation. You're spewing condemnations when you don't really know what's going on. I don't know either, but as I have some experience in IT I can imagine all kinds of things that they might be doing to try to improve things, and I can imagine all kinds of things that could be preventing them from getting things straightened out quickly. I have some patience.

And no, I'm not affiliated with them in any way. I don't even have an account on any of the currency exchanges. I just really hate people bashing repeatedly with wild speculations when its a waste of time. Make your case, state it to the world once clearly, quit using their service, and get the fuck over it and move on. LOL, now I know you're nothing more than a troll. Anyone with experience in financial services IT would know that databases have a lot of configuration that needs to be messed with. Indexes can be added, tables can be pegged to memory, different table engines can make a difference; but these need data to be analyzed to determine if they will actually help. Are they using stored procs, and if so would recent changes in data usage mean they should be rewritten?

So they should have known a month or two ago what the peak volume last week would have been?

Sure, they should have expected a mad rush of basically everyone who has ever been interested in bitcoins to be hitting their server all at the same time, and maybe they did. Maybe they calculated that since the peak they were going to get at the anointed time was going to be a one time event that they would only need to survive through and that regular usage would be much lower. Maybe they figured they didn't need to spend tons of money for the expected one time event when it would be a waste after that. There's a whole heck of a lot of decisions that have to be made when actually running a business that outsiders would never suspect.

Why not have a little damn patience and give them an hour at least before complaining about it. Heck, they probably needed at least an hour's worth of new data just to have enough information to fine tune the database.

LOL, yeah a site that just shows some data and doesn't need to handle any user specific data nor worry about security is faster than one that needs to make sure that every user's pages have data that is live especially for them.

Those of us that have actually built web applications at least have a little understanding that there's a huge difference in functionality between these sites. The guys behind Gox may not be the best and brightest, but the demands on their system are a whole heck of a lot more than one that can cache pretty much everything.

Why would you expect them to NOT lag when everyone who is at all interested will be picking this one time to be going to their site. Please have some frakkin sense.

I thought I saw on another thread that yes, they did have the front end and the DB on the same box. Moving the DB to another machine *should* be a trivial task, but when dealing with mission critical components making sure it all works properly means caution and testing.

If the database upgrade is a simple swap for more power (better CPUs, more RAM, faster drives) then yes it can be done in 12 hours.
