Cool man,  the electric company made me buy and put 2x600 amp, one next to the transformer and one inside the building, as well as one 200 amp fuse.  The wire cables that I got running to the 600amps is 350mcm which is as thick as 4 fingers put together, that wire was hella expesive!  I don’t remember the exact price but it was around 3-4K just to run it from the transformer to the inside of the farm.  It was a lot longer to runit to the main line outside.  Pretty much I’ve spent a fortune to install all of it!  Not to mention the price of the transformer.  Lips sealed

It was my plan to build a 60x100 building and fill it with miners but right now, that is not cost effective and with the electric company giving me so much crap, I am starting to lose my enthusiasm for it.
I know nothing about mining, I have a friend who is quite familiar though. How much would I need to invest to have a decent miner? Tired of buying btc. And how much electricity a month does it cost? I am trying to get a wallet back up over .01 or so?
Must I have the most advance video cards to pool mine? I just do not have much to invest. I live off $800 a month?

I’ll give you a quick look on the Mining situation.  If you live on $800 a month, all you can afford is one Antminer S9i which is little better then just the S9, consumes little less of electricity.

With this miner you will make approximately 0.0005910 btc per day, or around $2.3 dollars.

Look at your last electric bill and try to find how many cents you pay per kilowatt,  for example in Texas it is around $0.10 at a regular house.

Go to this site:

https://www.rapidtables.com/calc/electric/electricity-calculator.html

Put in the data which would be 1350 watts, 24 hours of use per day and the price you pay per kilowatt and press calculate.  Take the number that will show that you will have to pay per day for the electricity and minus out what you miner will make, which is about $2.3 daily.

And that’s how you will see how much your miner will make you on a daily basis, then times that 30 and you’ll get your monthly income.  Or the price that you will have to pay out of your pocket for your 1 S9i brining you the BTC.  Grin

I agree, the current situation would make anyone loose enthusiasm for it, not to mention the 27% import tax they got on the miners coming into the U.S now, which makes you want to quit even more if you don’t have the miners on hand already.

In my case I’ve finished installing everything and the miners are just sitting here so I have to try to see what happens, after all the work has been done.

I keep hoping to see Japan come out with ASIC's so can avoid the import tax, though even with it - Bitmain S9's are super cheap, especially when having a shit ton of coupons that are just expiring left and right lol

They are super cheap indeed,  i paid almost 60k just for 22 miners sometime in April so yeah even with that tax the miners are hell of a lot cheaper these days!  And yes the coupons just keep coming in, afte the $55 ones have expired I got another email the other day for some more.

They have plenty of hardware to get rid of but don’t have many orders  these days I’m sure because of the current situation, so they try to spice it up with some coupons.

if i recall correct, its a percentage of 27% right?
Why not buy from some local companies there and have them change the initial purchase price? Saves a lot of taxes...  Cool
Also in other news, they said there was just a US-China trade war truce for 90 days that started on 12/1. Not sure how much of a nightmare that's gonna be for companies like Blokforge, but it seems like those tariffs shouldn't be applicable if purchased ≥ 12/1/18 & < 3/1/19... We shall see how they handle this, I suppose.

The 27% on the miners have been aplicable since like July 8th I think,  and I even heard that some people recieved a bill from UPS, even on the packages that they got before that date and already payed the previous duties on the miners (crazy,).   Actually I received one too not too long ago for the miners that I got like in April and was already charged the duties by the UPS upon he delivered!

I watched the G20 news the other day and they said that Trump put a hold on the trade war with China and that for now they aren’t going to double the import tax from China. Which from what it looks they were going to do.

So the 27% is just a little taste, they haven’t really raised the tax to what they wanted to on thousands of products that are imported from China.  Shopping in Wall Mart won’t be a favorite thing for low income people anymore if this sh... keeps on going in that direction!   Cheesy.

Since all of the taxes will be passed on to the end buyers!

isnt it a option to pull a extention wire with enough capacity from your house connection to the other location temporarily?

I dont think I can pull 400 amps with an extension cord lol

Well, if its 400 amps divided over 3 phase it isnt too bad. 220 volts i presume (single phase voltage)
I dont know the actual lenth you have to overcome, but i've done crazyer things like that.....

I've pulled an (temporarily) extention cord for 3x450 amps over 600 meters (approx. 1800 feet) for a huge chiller of a company i worked for. That was a nice challenge.. Smiley

Damn!  More than half of a kilometer!  That extension must have costed more than the chiller itself?  Cheesy

Wow, you got your own building on 3 acres and they are still giving you sh...., that’s messed up!  I just installed a transformer my self but it took them almost half a year to do it, because of all the bureaucratic paperwork I had to go through.

Yea - I am on month 4 or 5 in trying to get it hooked up. I want 3kv or thereabouts.

Extension wire? Lmao  Cheesy.  Bro, i don’t think he is trying to hook up one vacuum cleaner  Grin

well I do have a vacuum in the building but yea it's not just for power to that - there are the miners, the fans, the a/c unit, the dehumidifier, the cameras, the routers and maybe a few other things.

well I am currently stuck - the electric company has suspended my service to my mining building for the time being.... and that is why my miners were no longer mining. My building is located on my residential property (about 3 acres) but has it's own and separate meter/panel box - due to my high consumption, I have had multiple visits from the electric company (even a couple from law enforcement who detected the heat on thermal and thought I might have a grow house) and now they want me to convert my residential service to commercial and state they need to install a new/different meter and I will have to pay for the changes... now mind you, I have been trying to get a transformer installed so I can expand and they have been delaying/blocking that and NOW they pull this move... So, I am pushing for them to install the transformer that way I can build a larger building to house more of my miners and to possibly do hosting...

but for time being, I am temporarily shut down. I may try to relocate a few of my miners to a location nearby in the meantime just too keep accruing BTC, but I doubt I can do them all and keep it profitable.

I just finished building a new little farm my friend, which should put out around 1PH-1.2PH.  I’ve installed a 167kva transformer and had to do a bunch of work to get everything ready to start.  And just as I was done this happened to BTC!  Undecided.  So I got like 30 miners currently running just to see how much they make and how much will they charge me for the electricity, I should get at around 6 cents per kilowatt.  I’m just afraid to hook it all up and then have to pay a bunch of money out of my pocket for the electricity! Lol  Grin. So I have to do a test run first!

If I the miners will be able to pay the electric bill then I might be back here soon. Cool

Let’s just hope for the best!  That the BTC will go up and the difficulty go down!  Wink

Unfortunately that window only lasts about 2016 Blocks. As soon as the price rises the Diff will follow. If it's slow enough it'll buy us some more time with a lower Diff maybe 2 or 3 retarget periods, but last year is a good example of how fast Diff can rise if the price increases quickly. Only this time there won't be a bottleneck on hardware, there is an ample supply just waiting to be purchased or turned back on.

In the meantime I'll happily sit here partially heating the house with some 741's, collecting some lower Diff coins for a better tomorrow.

Would have been nice to snag one last block before we lost a bunch of Hashpower but I'm looking forward to their 5ND running out.

Well let’s hope that the diff will drop by a lot soon and the price will go up slowly but surely then!   Grin. Any positive movement in the BTC industry that would help to pay my electric bill works for me!   Wink

For this pool, I would say that anyone that has more than  around 500TH can be considered a big miner at this moment, so if you go to stats page that’s around top 15 miners.  If they quit, that is where the pool will be at is approximately 20 something PH.

But the miners that pay more than 5-6 cents per kilowatt can start quitting (although I’m not even sure that if you pay 6 cents at this moment, the hardware can pay off what it uses), having even smaller amount of TH, let’s say starting 50TH.  Just because probably most people simply can’t pay to get BTC and have to pay for getting it on top of that, it would be easier and cheaper to just buy the BTC, without the worries about the luck.

Miners are used to mine BTC and get a profit on top of that minus out the electricity bill.

So if things don’t change soon, the only ones that will be mining are guys that have lots of money to just throw away for electricity (and hope that BTC will cost a million dollars in the future) or the guys that simply don’t pay their electric bill and know a way to steal the electricity.  Or the Chinese that produce the hardware and pay little to power up their machines, may also be able to stay afloat.

Hopefully the difficulty will drop by a lot soon!  If I remember correctly it should go down about 10% in a few days or so.  And I’m not even sure if that will help to stay afloat, for the most.
That seems to be a pretty fair assessment. I can only speak for myself, which puts me in the mine-at-less-than-break-even-and-wish-upon-a-star category. Grin

Let’s just hope for the best!  That the BTC will go up and the difficulty go down!  Wink

Weekly with bursts of triplets is just fine with me!
Weekly?  Lol   Cheesy you’ll be lucky to get couple a month if all big miners leave, if that.
Sorry, we're currently at "7days 2hr 40min 9sec" (46.51PH/s). Wink

Not sure what your definition of "big miners" is, but for us to only get a couple a month, we'd have to be at 22PH/s to get a block every "15days 0hr 48min 36sec" according to the http://tradebtc.net/bitcalc.php BTC calculator.

Preferably we get more than one per diff change, but as they say, "whatayagonnado?" Huh

Oh in case anyone didn't notice - there was a block by cryptostarusa 1.5hrs ago Smiley

We also hit a record failover 5min pool hash rate of 993.25PHs for a few minutes earlier today Smiley
Yeah, I missed that one for a while due to being heads down on a networking change here at home, but glad to see were mining away regardless of the BTC price craziness. Glad I don't rely on the price alone to justify keeping my miners running.

Love live the BTC!
Heh - and another new high score record as we have a couple of large miners abandon ship due to the luck this month:

5min hash rate of 4.55EH at 20:03 UTC (about half an hour ago)

I think many big miners will start abandoning the ship soon Kano (not just here) and it isn’t  just because of luck but because they just simply can’t pay the electricity bills at this price of BTC.  I’ve heard that many are shutting down their farms until the difficulty will go down or the price will go back up.  I doubt that at even 5-6 cent per kilowatt the machines can pay for electricity that they use, not even talking about any kind of profit.  Things ate starting to look bad, hopefully it will change soon!

My shares on Kano Account are showing 0 since Mar‑22 13:13:31, why would that be?

Your machines are not hashing...internet or power down?  Try rebooting your machines.

Thanks, rebooted, now one of the machines miner status doesn't show one of the hash boards, and is hashing at 9TH.  Cry
What's my next step?

Same here man, restarted the miner and now one board only shows 26 functioning chips and guess what it is the same card that I’ve sent for repair to Colorado before and waited for them to fix it like 3 months!
