81  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Peter Schiff btc critic posts standing infront of bitcoin sign at the airport on: July 10, 2024, 03:24:37 PM
Peter Schiff is an absolute clown, and I can't stand the guy.  Anyone who thinks that investing your money in precious metals alone or that precious metals and bitcoin are alternatives to each other I think is fooling themselves.  I think a big part of his "act" is just that, being an "act".  He makes a lot of noise because it gets him a lot of attention.  Just like right now we are discussing him and he loves that fact.
82  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you believe in gambling experts predictions? on: July 10, 2024, 03:22:32 PM
I personally don't believe it although indeed, sometimes they do it so well and that it makes us able to believe in their predictions. But anyway, as long as I can do it myself, then ofcourse I will make my own predictions and there is no need to follow the predictions of others or the predictions of gambling experts as you intended in the OP. Unless,  if I can't do it myself then maybe I will follow the predictions of those who are more expert or more experienced.

But still, even though I might follow their instructions, of course I will not put a lot of money, because it still has a big risk. So, even if you get instructions from gambling experts but it still has a big risk, and will not eliminate the risk even if you get predictions from gambling experts or more experienced gamblers. But the point is, I personally will never follow it, because in gambling it will be more fun when we do it our own way.

Sharks are manipulatively brilliant in card games, but, I cannot for the life of me see why players badger them for sport predictions. It's of zero meaning to hand out a dime of trust to an artless expert who takes his profits at the expense of a lovesick gambler. Typically, these experts as to their intellectual pretentions on sport gambling lack the skill to calculate poison distribution for determining the weakness and strength of a team. There is nothing extravagant about their services, except for the diffused dedication of naive, loon gamblers who develop tremor on hearing the unending winning promises of their so called experts. Surprisingly, many of their clients harbour no resentment against them for their clumsy art of prediction, which can be done by literally any gambler as you said.
Agree that there are quite a few experts who pretend to be knowledgeable and disguise themselves to deliberately push public opinion in the direction they want for the purpose of profiteering but somehow there is another aspect that is neutral experts, they have a clear map as well as drawing a vision of opportunities and risks, participating with such predictions is also partly reassuring. But through many stages as well as development, gamblers are often independent individuals, simply cheating everywhere in gambling, listening to experts only disturbs the feelings.

I agree with you guys.  Often times you'll see these "gambling guru's" whom advertise themselves as such, but when it comes down to it they are often more "bark than bite", so to speak.

I think a lot of people are easily manipulate into believing these "gurus" because they can provide some sort of track record that is often skewed in their favor.

I think the best thing to do is take their suggestions but with a grain of salt.  Use them as a tool to help decide, but not be the decision maker.
83  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Online gambling is the most fair gambling we can access on: July 10, 2024, 03:19:56 PM
This is an interesting take on the topic.  I'm not sure which side I lean to be honest.  When I play at in an in-person casino, I feel like there's less chance of them scamming me, however when I see "outside the lines" type reporting it does seem like they are able to get away with a lot of stuff that you wouldn't realize they could do.  Online I'm not always sure it's provably fair, but I guess there's people out there that test to makes rue this is the case, for all casinos that is.  I certainly trust some online casinos like Duelbits which I carry a signature for.
84  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2024 NBA Season on: July 10, 2024, 03:17:36 PM
So as a Chicago Bulls fan I'm not real excited about the offseason or next year as we are horrible.  I'm curious though what everything thinks of the Demar DeRozan trade, and what do ya'll think about Zach Lavine still being a member of this Chicago Bulls?  I think it's sort of crazy that he's still on the team.  We have to real use for him since we have no shot at any sort of championship and he's just a wasted asset as I see it..

I’ll take a look and let ya know. I’ve got a few of each coin type.

Wheelz crushed it with that whole coin surprise pack deal. I ripped all mine open right away. Problem w trying to match #s for a set is some people bought boxes/packs and never opened them. I mean I get it, but sort of went against the spirit of it all,

I could feel how much love you had for the puppy and I could relate because I wasn’t a dog lover not until I was gifted a dog and since then, I found true friendship in the dog but that’s a long time ago and she died three years back.
Dogs are family
Dogs are true friends
I love dogs

I can help get someone who can do this very well for you but I’m in Nigeria and it might even cost you more getting it across to you except you want a soft copy.

I’m already in your pm as we could talk more better about it.

Hey appreciate the kind words! I’ve been meaning to respond to your DM and will soon. Thanks!

And thanks Hampz!
87  Economy / Collectibles / Re: I Found A Cool 10-Year Old Video About Bitcoin / With Physical Bitcoin In It! on: July 07, 2024, 03:21:59 PM
It’s not easy to find something I haven’t already sniffed out yet, and I love that you have. Thanks for sharing!

Well the brass coin is no doubt a Casascius knock off. Probably should be added to Cas thread @krogothmanhattan ?

Anyone recognize seeing it before? I’ve seen similar coins. Perhaps even the same one, will have to run through my posts on the Fake Cas thread.

How about the silver coin I circled , any guesses?

Due to the low resolution of the video, I would say that is a real Cas coin
They also show off a silver 1 btc Cas...
The coin you circled is a Cas aluminum blank/DIY

The Cas coin they show a few times is still loaded! Cheesy

Shit I think you’re right. I saw one thing though during the video that made think that, and just hard to see with the low resolution. Most likely a Cas though, good call.

As for the circled coin , it looks to thick and shiny to be an aluminum Cas..if you look a bit closer …I could be wrong again but .,

89  Economy / Economics / Re: Financial Institution who control's the Market on: July 07, 2024, 10:08:31 AM
As a long time financial advisor, the vast majority of people on here simply do not have a clue about how the financial world works.  This is actually a really decent write up about how some of the financial world works.

One thing I would like to add, these days actively managed Mutual Funds are really a waste of money.  ETFs (and there are actively managed ETFs) are a much better route overall for investing in to stock or bond funds.

Another type of fund to mention would be CIT's, Collateral Investment Trust funds.  These have become quite popular in todays world for retirement plans such as 401k's / 457b's / 403b's etc.  They tend to be the lowest cost funds there are, but the negative is they are not regulated by the SEC, but the states comp troller, and there is a level of lack of transparency that I'm not fond of.
I don't like that kind of funds because we can't trust anybody in the World. When we concern about money ,everyone is greedy and everyone is ready to cut our neck but they don't show they are enemies of us but they claim they are sincere with us. In fact, they want our money and they are only agents and they want to invest our money through which they will get the percentage from that amount and they will get the promotion. Every should invest his on real things like property,I like property and it is safe for every person and if a person has a small amount of investment,he should invest his money in gold and should invest in gold biscuits.

You seem to not understand the stock markets at all. Any company who issues stock has a highly vested interest in making you money, as so will they (they control the most shares),.  Same thing goes for stock or bond funds.  It’s advantageous to issuer and buyer to do well. The stock market equities are backed by tangible goods, services, real world businesses etc.

Gold is not an investment , it’s a hedge that sure, can end up being a good investment.  Upside potential is not really there for gold though. Not atm.. Also you seem to not be aware of how corrupt and manipulated the precious metals space “markets”, market makers, miners etc] are.

“it is safe for every person and if a person has a small amount of investment,he should invest his money in gold and should invest in gold biscuits”.

You don’t know what you’re talking about.
90  Economy / Reputation / Re: Flying Hellfish..where’d he go? on: July 07, 2024, 07:52:13 AM
It's been years since I last heard from him. He was growing tired of the forum and then stopped logging in altogether, but I bet he's probably doing OK. Its not impossible to imagine how burnouts can happen, or that things are just more fun in real life.

We discussed this in depth for sure (imagine moderating BAD every day lol). I said no politics but I’m only slightly breaking my rule as I kinda have to..but one thing he expressed to me was that he truly tried to mod fairly, and not based on his own political beliefs.  One thing I really admired about Theymos, he hired a guy with often conflicting political ideals. From the little I’ve spent in that sub and noticed, anyhow. Anyway Helly def respected that and I know he tried for some time, but surely found chatting it up in that sub is a whole different ballgame than moderating it. He often took criticism and it really wasn’t fair.  (I don’t think I’m breaking any news to you here).

That's the good and bad thing about this forum. The anonymity it provides means that if you disappear it could be because you have died of a heart attack or simply because you have decided to leave the forum without telling anyone or leaving a trace. I venture to think that in most cases it is the latter. I hope someone can reassure the OP that Flying Hellfish simply decided to leave the forum and is doing OK.

Not anonymous to me, but his current “state” is, unfortunately. He closed the second communication channel around the last time we chatted here.  I was not shocked him leaving the forum, but cutting off our other line of communication was a bit surprising. I do just truly hope the guy is doing well. That’s all I’d love to hear.

I hope he is well, I didn't think time had passed so quickly, but the last login to the account was from 2021.
I found that he won some Collectibles, so if you ask about him there, they may help you with more information about him, but since he decided to stop using the forum, it is best to respect his privacy.

Yeah, I’m one of them over in collectibles. Thats how I got to chatting w Helliy. I don’t think he was very close w many of us nerds over in that board though. I certainly respect his privacy, not looking to track him down. Just curious if he’s doing alright.
91  Economy / Reputation / Flying Hellfish..where’d he go? on: July 07, 2024, 03:39:10 AM
Been meaning to ask this for some time as I’m just curious. But can anyone address what happened to him? Helly and I would chat often, and I enjoyed our frequent conversations, just a really cool guy IMO. Then one day poof, vanished like a fart in the wind. I dunno if any mods can share anything, but it would just be good to know the guy is okay. Guessing I get no answers here but figured I’d ask.  Cheers

(Let’s leave politics out of this plz).

Would love to get Theymos take on r/bitcoin vs the forum,7-8 years ago and as of these days. Feel like both have changed a lot.

The forum is far superior than any social media for learning and asking questions, not even close.

As for naughty words and bullies, not a ton here. We even once had a great philosopher, well known for their poetic bitcoin discourse. Shakespearean esk .:some would even say. Here’s a nicely gathered catalog of some of their best work  -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5138619.0

Original thread- https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5369583.0

I have decided to lock the original thread and start over for a number of reasons. I will be posting a summarized update of what happened, what’s taken place since I posted the original thread, and where things stand now (this will be a group effort, hopefully!).

Lastly, this thread is now self moderated. False accusations, slander, and thread derailment of any kind will not be tolerated. No one is excluded from posting here, but I reserve the right to change that. Let’s work together on this, peacefully!

Will be a few days until I can do a proper summary, fyi
96  Other / Meta / Re: retiring an account in the age of AI on: July 06, 2024, 01:03:26 PM
hypothetically speaking, its gonna be a while before people start training models for the sake of imitating Bitcointalk accounts
A decent AI doesn't need special training, you'll just set it loose and tell it to make you money. If it's a good AI, it'll keep the money for itself.
AI is a hype, it's added to anything now, from browsers to phones. The fact that people sell the idea of an AI to make money instead of having the AI make money directly tells me all I need to know about that "AI". Let's say I don't fear the AI that's being sold (although the spam is annoying), but I'm pretty sure we should fear the (future) AI that's being kept private.

Timmy still owes me all the forks for his 2FA coins he sold me. As someone with the name Tim as well, i also wish to seek punitive damages on behalf of all Tim's for sullying our great name. Shame.

Tim is the male form of Karen ..you’re saying..pain and suffering right there lol

i dont have a dog in this fight, i only own one 1.0 btc pure gold oz. private key coin still loaded, but my personal opinion is that "mount gox" excuse is not the truth.  just my two cents.  do i have proof? no i do not, just my humble opinion.  RS

I believe his Mt Gox story about as much as I believe in Santa Claus. Either way, he was fractional reserve banking with everyone’s coins, secretly , at best.

99  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Laszlo Pizza purchase a group effort among early BTC “devs”? on: June 29, 2024, 04:24:21 AM
Ya’ll ..I pointed out what I’d like to think is a pretty cool/interesting “discovery” (I can’t imagine I’m wrong about much of this, the dots are easy to connect) No one did anything wrong here, and it takes nothing away from these legends who made brilliant moves to help pave the way for the most important financial creation of our lifetimes. . We owe them all a great deal of gratitude ! Just like we do Theymos, lucky to have him still around...I hope one of these early devs writes a book eventually.

Anyways everyone should read the GitHub thread above, you won’t regret it! Cheers.
100  Economy / Goods / WTB Pet Portrait on: June 28, 2024, 07:59:04 AM
Looking for a skilled artist who would be able to paint something really nice that I hang up in my office of my beloved little girl who crossed the rainbow bridge last year. ( I may have posted about this before, I just can’t remember and can’t seem to find any posts about it).

This little purse puppy meant the world to me and I’d love to honor her with something really nice. There’s a lot of talented artists around these parts so thought I’d ask/check..

Here’s a photo of her, and following is the quality level of portrait I’m looking for.  Basically I want it to look like a photo. If interested, please PM me! Thx

(Manly as a dog gets I know 💪🙂)
