BB needs some serious exchange

This is true but have patience...

If Poloniex links their wallet account in any of the remaining distribution rounds it's game on!

Look at what happened with Pascal coin...10,000% increase in a few months? Just from the "Polo Effect"

Could polo take out the whole of the remaining distribution if they linked their wallet or would there be a cap for each round?

Hope that those I voted can deliver the services that Komodo platform needed. They are really the ones who will maintain the integrity of the network.  Somehow I really envy them but I guess they will do their job really well.

No need to envy them,  there are many other ways us mortals can help this project succeed. It badly needs marketing...

Distribution plan is not set in stone yet. Dev still tries to find a compromise between fast and wide distribution.

This is quite a tricky problem. On the one hand, you want to spread distribution over as long a timeframe as possible to allow more people to participate.

On the other hand, the longer it is drawn out, the longer tonych is sitting on 90, 80, 70, 60, 50% of the total coin supply. It's hard to be taken seriously as a currency when one guy owns 90% of the total money supply (even if he promises to give them away for free at some vaguely specified later date). So, from this perspective I think you want to distribute coins as quickly as possible to eliminate the uncertainty associated with one person holding almost all the coins (whether he intentionally after maliciously and dumped the coins or I believe his identity is public so someone could steal or rob him off the coins).
so for now,  next step what the team BB / tonych need to do is to put all the BB in an trusted escrow ...this will  be a big win for all. tonych will be more  trusted and he can finish distribution without losing/dumping/etc. the coins and big exchanges will jump in to add BB for trade without the fear of dumping or what else tonych can do,
i would like to hear more ideas about this subject.
cheers and keep doing  a great work  TEAM BB.

There may be some intention to keep byteball away from the main exchanges so holding them at this point it time would fit in with that thinking if true.

I'm happy with a long distribution but if it was an automated process via smart contract or otherwise so no skullduggery or collusion could be realised,  people may feel better.

what is the next time for get free byteball?

Feb 11

is there a complete distribution schedule somewhere for all the BBs?

Really would be nice to know coin supply currently out and as it increases over time until finished.

So if all stayed the same ~70,000BTC linked then:

70,000 * .0625 = 4,375
100,000 * .1 = 10,000

only ~14,375 new GBs would be distributed in round 2?

As far as I've read,  second distro is only releasing 1.5% of total amount.

87  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: January 25, 2017, 12:29:06 AM
I've been having this problem again trying to send XMR to ShapeShift.io and having the trade cancelled because the deposit doesn't get confirmed within 10 minutes.

ShapeShift is again not recognizing the unconfirmed deposit transaction (as it does for any other coin) and therefore keeps the 10 minute timer ticking.

Monero is also randomly (but frequently) not including my transactions in the next block, nor the block after that, etc ... for example this latest one has been in the unconfirmed transactions pool for 43 minutes and 19 blocks.

Anybody know what's going on?

Need some help with simplewallet here:

I'm having an ongoing issue where outgoing XMR transfers do not make it into the next block, and sometimes not for several blocks.  This wreaks havoc with ShapeShift because they cancel the transaction if your deposit if it's not confirmed in a block within 10 minutes.

If Monero blocks are not nearly full like Bitcoin and miner fees are automatic, what else could it be?

Example:

Code:
[wallet]: transfer xxx........
Money successfully sent, transaction <xxx........>
[wallet]: bc_height
1085653
[wallet]: bc_height
1085654
[wallet]: bc_height
1085655
[wallet]: bc_height
1085656
Height 1085656, transaction <xxx........>, spent xxx........

Why didn't that xfer get included in block 1085654 or 1085655?  Thanks for the help!

I don't know how to answer the question but I had a tx in block 1085656, I wasn't paying much attention but I was surprised it took a few blocks to get confirmed. My only guess is with the rapid increase in activity and hashrate over the past couple days there seems to be a lot of variance at the moment...two blocks found within seconds then 10 minutes between blocks: http://moneroblocks.info/

Notice the tx per block is higher than average: http://moneroblocks.info/stats

I'm sorry to hear that Shapeshift is not recognizing the payment as soon as it hits the tx pool. Use xmr.to. I have communicated with a Shapeshift dev on how to get the payment id from the tx pool but I guess they are too busy or something...

You're not the only one. I gave up on shapeshift a while ago regarding Monero. Plus their customers service wasn't the best so said I'd avoid for the short term.
88  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: January 24, 2017, 11:34:53 PM
Monero does hide amounts now, actually, with the recent hardfork to allow ring confidential transactions (CT) transactions on mainnet. Also, as you point out ring signatures only obfuscate, but In conjunction with stealth addresses, you can achieve an anonymity set in the millions with maybe ten "hops".

IMO "hubs" sound like more of a vulnerability than a plus, as maybe counterparty might not know your IP, but the hub could be logging everyone's IP that connects.

Anyway, agree that usability is key, especially for byteball where there is less emphasis on decentralization and trustlessness.

This is why BB beats XMR hands down. Right now I can converse with someone through the BB wallet, we both remain anonymous, I can chat with them easily, send them funds in private, delete the chat and I'm done. That's today, not "after the introduction of... ". Monero is like ETH, always tomorrow, tomorrow. If I need anonymity tx in XMR I have to encrypt messages and sensitive information through another source, maybe with PGP and the masses will not accept that as although it's solid encryption, it's cumbersome and slow.

I can't see how Monero is any more decentralized than BB considering XMRs inception.

Monero is a one trick pony. A good one essentially and for those who invested early, like BTC, they will flog it hard in the face of better solutions. Understandable.

Even NAV in some regards bests XMR for anonymity and being able to anonymize other coins through NavTech.

I expect to see some adoption of the BB for private tx's alone.

I often hear from devs of different coins: we'll start marketing when the product is ready. But the thing is that a great product is never ready, it's always growing, developing, changing. Markets are like women, don't try to surprise them with something great. You'll lose. Better tell them you're going to do something great. Let them waiting for it. Vitalik is a perfect example. he started talking (and the world stated talking with him) about ETH years before he actually made something.

Supernet and other associated projects have been hyped for the last 2 yrs.......everyone has heard about it. The last 2 yrs have been just need to get the GUI finished. Just need to get the Windows wallet finished.

Just need to get Pangea finished......... so how about we wait until the cake is baked we all know that it's in the oven

Cheers Jon  Cool

I don't think there is much correlation with the lack of coindesk articles. It's probs a good thing as coindesk is infamous for crappy click bait articles and apart from it's btc ticker, there isn't much to be taken from that channel.

Is this a hipstercoin?  Huh At first glance this looks for me like WhatsApp for crypto. Grin
Is there a target group? I thought DAG is for the IOT market.
Why should the coin be good?

Thanks for the answer

I feel it's a lot more than that. The messaging option is such a small component of byteball but one that is being used in the early days as it's a functionality that is "online" and up and running. Have a read of the whitepaper for it's uses and potential user base. It's a nice read and not too hard to get your head around. Also check out Kolas reply above, he covers many points useful to your question.

More than 30x difference.  BB GB price has a lot of upside.  People selling at 0.04 - 0.05 will be kicking themselves over the coming weeks.

I feel this too. So many upsides and if wallet makes use of TOR it could solve a lot of problems for a lot of people.  0.05 is cheap, think well easily see 0.2 inside of two months.
93  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: January 19, 2017, 08:07:04 AM
the anonymous tech on this platform proves useless as it still leaks IP. Its the exact equivalent to using shapeshift for anonymity. That's somewhat of a let down.

You can TOR it. Also, that is not that hard thing to do imo if the dev put some effort into it.

Isn't this already built in to the wallet? I remember Tony working on this a week or two back...

Regarding the second airdrop:

Hello again! Your current linked Bitcoin address is XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Please make sure that XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX is indeed your address and move all your coins to this address. You receive 62.5 MB and 131,943,750 blackbytes for each 1 BTC of the total balance of this Bitcoin address on mid-February (to be announced).

Current balance of this address is XXXXXXXXXXXX BTC.

... All the above sounds simple. It's this bit that's causing me a little confusion.

For the bytes you hold on mid-February (to be announced) you receive 0.1 new byte for each 1 byte of your balance, even if your bytes are not on linked Byteball addresses.

You also receive 0.21111 blackbytes for each 1 byte of your balance on the linked Byteball address, which currently is:
YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY  0 GB.

Move your bytes to the linked address in order to maximize the amount of blackbytes you receive.

I signed a message and successfully linked my BTC address to my byteball address.
I have a load of bytes and dark bytes sitting in that wallet also.
Now, why is it telling me I have to move my bytes to YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY  ?

Do I need to move resend my own bytes to myself at this YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY  address?

Many thanks in advance.
95  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Money laundering via BTC on: January 12, 2017, 08:29:52 PM
Bitcoin is pseudo-anonymous, so it's not ideal to hide "black" money in a technology that can be traced back to the person hiding that money. There are other Alt coins with full anonymity more suited for that purpose. Even if you use mixer services with Bitcoin, the authorities can still subpoena these services to release the data, and then you will have to give a explanation for that money. ^hmmmm^

So why HAshocean owners was not found yet, after thousands and thousands on Police claims FBI, Interpol . . private compannys hiring.... huum ? Why ? more then 200 Millions Dollars in BItcoin runned away . .
Why people talks so much about Silk Road, GM TOX or what ever its name, and other bitcoins robbers and scams, but not on this 200 millions dollars Bitcoin runaway ? IS not 200 Millions dollars enought to inspire private investigators to find them ?  Huh Huh Huh Huh Huh

Because private investigators don't stand a chance of finding it,  not even through blockchain analysis companies. If the crypto isn't cashed out to fiat in large amount then it's a no go. They'd have mixed it,  broken the link, found a trusted fixer and cashed out a few mill when they need it. Job done.
96  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The safest wallet? on: January 12, 2017, 08:18:16 PM
If you are willing to invest, trezor or ledgerwallet nano S. If you are storing over 0.2 btc, you might want to look onto hardware wallets because probably they are your besr bet regarding safety. Of course you should generate the seeds for example ledgeewallet on a computer that is disconnected from the internet.

Trezor over Mycelium rooted through TOR orbot seems like a solid option. Can't see anything beating that for privacy and security.
97  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: January 08, 2017, 11:31:16 AM
I have quite crucial question. I linked my btc successfully but I dont remember setting up the wallet. Was there a seed to write down or something? How should I proceed if I dont have the seed anymore? I still run the old version wallet. Thank you in advance.

Before you upgrade to the latest software version you need to backup the Byteball folder contained in a hidden folder called local. You lose your blackbytes if you lose that folder. It needs backing up after each blackbyte transaction.

It's important to back up your seed, but you can only recover your byteballs with it, not your blackbytes. However, using your seed to recover your byteballs is not easy, it's best to use a backed up folder.

After you have backed up you need yo install the latest version of the software without first uninstalling the old version. The latest version will detect your old wallet, and is needed to see your byteballs.

Thanks HI-TEC99 and CryptKeeper for clarification Smiley

What exactly I need to do to secure a backup before update to v1.0.0?

"To restore wallets, you will need a full backup of Byteball settings. Just the wallet seed is not enough"

It's vital to backup this windows folder to ensure you get your blackbytes.

C:\users\<your user name>\AppData\Local\Byteball

The folder is normally hidden. If you haven't configured your computer to make it visible then click the windows orb, type %appdata% into the search box and press enter, Your hidden appdata folder should open.

It's also important to back up your wallet words (the seed) that you can view in the advanced section of your wallet.

Searched the %appdata% on windows 10 machine and that sucker is no where to be seen. Not even a folder in that list that says "byteball". Nada. Any clues how I get the mysterious folder to display? I have 600GB of blackies in there ad I've already smashed the screen on my nexus this morning so I'm not feeling lucky atm!

Thanks in advance to anyone who can assist with my shit windows skills.

Maybe that's the reason we won't see large exchanges listing BB anytime soon.

If BB hodlers are numerous and exchanges only make money on tx fees then I can't see them paying too much emphasis on adding BB anytime soon.
99  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: January 02, 2017, 12:44:23 AM
Seriously, Diem... Why? Polo said they were going to ditch that piece of crap a few months ago and there it is, still listed.

I suspect they list coins based more o what they can turn a profit on over inspecting the code.

Bittrex would be nice though in the meantime agreed.

I think the .Pl trading platform is so new and has such little volume, people are waiting for Polo to pick it out before they get excited and feel secure.
