I have quite crucial question. I linked my btc successfully but I dont remember setting up the wallet. Was there a seed to write down or something? How should I proceed if I dont have the seed anymore? I still run the old version wallet. Thank you in advance.

I don't use slack, that's why I asked for someone to tell me about how much blackballs are going for, and if it's more or less than whiteballs.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1728405.0The above is the byteball trading thread: if you don't have slack that's the way to go. Try to put your wtb & wts over there and check what others are asking to get a rough idea of blackbytes value.

Before you upgrade to the latest software version you need to backup the Byteball folder contained in a hidden folder called local. You lose your blackbytes if you lose that folder. It needs backing up after each blackbyte transaction. It's important to back up your seed, but you can only recover your byteballs with it, not your blackbytes. However, using your seed to recover your byteballs is not easy, it's best to use a backed up folder. After you have backed up you need yo install the latest version of the software without first uninstalling the old version. The latest version will detect your old wallet, and is needed to see your byteballs. Thanks HI-TEC99 and CryptKeeper for clarification What exactly I need to do to secure a backup before update to v1.0.0? "To restore wallets, you will need a full backup of Byteball settings. Just the wallet seed is not enough" It's vital to backup this windows folder to ensure you get your blackbytes.
C:\users\<your user name>\AppData\Local\ByteballThe folder is normally hidden. If you haven't configured your computer to make it visible then click the windows orb, type %appdata% into the search box and press enter, Your hidden appdata folder should open. It's also important to back up your wallet words (the seed) that you can view in the advanced section of your wallet.

%localappdata% is the one that points to C:\Users\<name>\AppData\Local, there you'll find a folder named byteball.

Next distribution is going to be 1/5 or so compared to first one, so unlikely it will affect the price a lot. A price will be manipulated by wales who got a lot of bytes during first round.
So only 20,000 GB will be distributed? Probably less. If all GB from the first round is on linked addresses, 10 000 GB will be distributed to the GB holders. Plus, for each linked BTC, 62.5 MB will be distributed; if the linked BTC stays at 70 000 BTC, that's only 4 375 GB. So the Gbytes which were received in the first round need to be actively linked to receive 10% in the second round? I thought this was automatic according to everyones balance... Me too. If I don't have no bitcoins, it does not make sense to link my byteball address. I should receive bytes according to my current balance at current address. Let's wait for clarifications from tonych. Sure, tonych is the right one to clarify this. But there is another consideration to make: if BB will be sent to ALL addresses, a lot of them will be received by exchanges (well, currently the only exchange - cryptox.pl), which doesn't sound like a particularly right thing Exchanges should distribute the BBs to individual accounts. I don't think we need to link byteball's address, it is automatic. All the linked bitcoin addresses should still be valid for the second round, this is my understanding... Exactly. Tony stated this: Q: Is it necessary to use the transition bot if you only have Bytes in your wallet? Will you recognize all wallets with Bytes in it for the additional 0.1 Bytes/Byte or do we have to do something special?
A: you don't have to do anything to receive new bytes

When you type %appdata% into the search box and press enter a folder called roaming should open. If you then press your "alt" key and your up arrow key at the same time you should see your appdata folder. Inside it there should be a folder named local, and inside the local folder there should be a folder named byteball. I haven't used windows 10 yet. Those instructions are good for windows 8, but only someone who has used windows 10 can confirm they're good for that platform. If you are sure you are in your local folder inside appdata, then try downloading the software linked below. http://www.softpedia.com/get/PORTABLE-SOFTWARE/System/File-management/Portable-Everything.shtml Run it and use it to search for the word "byteball". It should show you every byteball folder on your system.

Wow, so exchanges are the lucky ones! Even if they distribute Byteballs to customers (which actually is up to them), they will receive Blackbytes for themselves !! Alternatively, if community could force exchanges to distribute Blackbytes too, it could immediately turn to a plus - the Blackbytes will automatically appear on exchanges This does't look to be well thought out. But hey, we'll see. It seems to me the brilliant tech implemented in this coin may compensate for all drawbacks of those distribution schemes, so BB could survive even with such strange distribution approaches.

BLACKBYTES ARE ALREADY DISTRIBUTED!!!!! no one get this CryptKeeper says the OP was updated to a more precise distribution description that says not all blackbytes were distributed. We get given more in the second round for both Bitcoins linked and byteballs held. OP updated to a more precise description of the second round distribution:Participation in Byteball distribution
If you missed the 1st round of distribution, you can still participate in the further rounds. If you were in the 1st round, you can multiply your holdings. In the second round, which is expected in mid-February, you receive: - 62.5 MB for every 1 BTC of proven balance - 0.1 new bytes for every 1 byte you own at the moment of the snapshot
You also receive blackbytes: - 62.5 * 2.1111 * 106 blackbytes for every 1 BTC of proven balance - 0.21111 new blackbytes for every 1 byte you hold on the linked address at the moment of the snapshot (total money supply of blackbytes is 2.1111 times more than that of bytes)
Byteball translators, please update your threads ASAP, thanks!

BLACKBYTES ARE ALREADY DISTRIBUTED!!!!!
no one get this
Please read the opening post and/or a few posts back before using the caps lock. It has never been said anywhere that all the blackbytes have already been distributed. How many times do we have to outline that the total supply of blackbytes is 2.1111 times that of bytes, that we all got exactly 2.1111 times in blacks what we got in bytes? Unless tonych keeps all the remaining blackbytes to himself (which doesn't make any sense), this doesn't make any sense ...

Can you explain how ByteBall is fundamentally different from IOTA?
AFAIK - no POW, Byteball uses fees to prevent spam - no ICO, Byteball coins are given out for free in several airdrops - Byteball has full and light wallets with easy gui for Linux, OSX, Windows, Android, iOS - Byteball uses chat bots to communicate with the user - Byteball is based on javascript, IOTA on java - Byteball is already traded on an exchange (cryptox.pl) and listed on coinmarketcap.com http://www.tangleblog.com/2017/01/03/byteball-vs-iota-token/not so bad For me there are two more (non tech) decisive differences: IOTA wants to conquer or create a market that does not yet exist (maybe in 10 years). Byteball focuses on existing markets and existing business models (trys designs them more efficiently). This makes Byteball compatible with the status quo. IOTA stands (like Ethereum) for technological revolution. Byteball stands (in my opinion) for evolution. The problem with revolutions is that they are completely uncontrolled. The initiators are in the end (historically) usually not the victors. Because Tony has done such an excellent job, it is much easier for Byteball to jump over the "The Chasm". (excurse: google -> “technology adoption lifecycle“ or for example: http://andrewoons.com/post/93339555434/how-to-get-bitcoin-from-the-early-adopters-to-the ) I do not know this guy. I only used his side to illustrate "The Chasm". But then I saw the sentence at the end. „Like I said before: if there were services or products that are built with bitcoin, that give people a real reason to use it, the adoption of bitcoin as a currency will go much faster.“ This is what "byteball" offers..

Very interesting project! But I have to read more about it.
A noob-question: This new Algo DAG (directed acyclic graph). I've heard of it but didn't do research about it until now. I begin to understand that advantages. But what are the disadvantages in comparison to Blockchains?
And another question, most likely asked before somewhere: How many rounds of distribution will there be?

True, I was thinking about it. If all coins were distributed, that would put the cryptocurrency between Dogecoin and Waves at the present time.
