81  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HoboNickels - HBN - Major Release ready! Version 1.4. Stake For Charity. on: April 09, 2014, 05:20:59 PM
I've made a quick calculation using http://hbn.blockx.info block explorer with data just for 1 hour of HBN blockchain live, and got the result of 93 PoS and 45 PoW blocks per hour, nice 2/1 relation.
Of course it needs far more data to analysis, but still interesting picture I think.

Edit: what a huge spike of PoS diff https://scrypt.io/graphs/hbninfo_posdiff-week.png

1.4 running fine too, and I think the start of the client was a bit faster then with 1.3.1 (or may be I'm just want it so Smiley)
Love all the new things, these buttons  Grin and the full info by getmininginfo command.
83  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Compare profitability: Scrypt Scrypt-N multipool, Vertcoin, Doge Litecoin P2Pool on: April 09, 2014, 02:07:22 PM
Ghash.io multipool is pretty bad so far. Mined for 12 hours on a ~1.15 MH/S rig and got 0.0017 BTC. There was something wrong with LOT, maybe that's why.
They are still in beta, yesterday there were some problems with NET mining with diff=0, also they are trying to mine LTC much of a time, and with such low ~1GH hashpower at multi they seems have not find any LTC block yet (or I didnt noticed).

Was surprised by cat&cactus story too)

I suppose the coin was attacked?
With a huge 288MH power, setting the diff to 2.58

Yes, it is there. you can do getinfo true, or getmininginfo, or getdifficulty. You can also click the green PoS arrow and it will give you PoS information.

Ohh, I see.. getdifficulty works well, I was using just getmininginfo to get a quick picture of the net.
One more little thing (may be it will be already fixed in the next version, IDK) - when choosing an option to make a wallet backup from the client, it doesn't remember the route, used before, so one have to find a folder with backups again every time - not critical, but could be useful.

Hey I just wanted to let every know I will be releasing v1.4 tonight. To fix the open ssl bug. I would suggest everyone upgrade ASAP.

 There was some more things I wanted to get done, but we'll be working on it for v1.5 along with some hard forks.  Big discussion later.
Tranz, after releasing of 1.4, 1.3x versions will still be working, so it is not hard fork yet, right?

Correct v 1.3 and 1.4 are compatible.  We will begin talking about v1.5 which will have a series have hard forks to fix many issues.

Is there going to be an option to see PoS diff in the client like in NVC?
"difficulty" : {
"proof-of-work" : 445.30749834,
"proof-of-stake" : 0.59503705,

BTW, as I see, the main disscussion (concerning 1.5 too) is going on at cryptocointalk.com forums?

One more comment.

At http://hobonickels.info/ there is info that HBN are currently traded on two exchanges: Atomic Trade and Cryptsy, but I didnt find HBN at Atomic Trade, but they are traded on coinex.pw

May be somebody have more info where else our little hobos are currently listed?

I was chatting with ByronP at Atomic Trade last night and he told me that HBN is temporarily taken off of Atomic due to low trading activity there, and the resource usage of HBN.  If faststaker reduces resource usage enough then it will be readded to the exchange.  I will take them off the site for now, but the may be back soon.

Concerning coinex.pw, I have heard they are not allowing withdrawals, so have left them off for now. If you are able to successfully withdraw HBN then let me know and I will add them back on.

Yes, I've just find info that coinex has huge problems, so it is not recommended to use.

You mean this bug "News: ♦♦ A bug in OpenSSL, used by Bitcoin-Qt/Bitcoin Core, could allow your bitcoins to be stolen. Immediately updating Bitcoin Core to 0.9.1 is required in some cases, especially if you're using 0.9.0."?

From https://www.cryptsy.com/currencies/view/64

"Based on bottlecaps. uses the proven amazingly stable CAP algo."
Someone at cryptsy dont like NVC much)

I like wiki's story more http://wiki.hobonickels.info/index.php?title=History_of_HoboNickels
"..on the family tree of coins, Bitcoin would be HBN's great grandfather, PeerCoin the grandfather, NovaCoin the father, and similar coins like BottleCaps and BitGem are siblings."

And Tranz the holyfather)
93  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HoboNickels - HBN - Fast High Yield Stake - Advanced Wallet - Fun Community on: April 07, 2014, 12:33:25 AM
Well, this is why hobos are so fun, and nova is so.. hard)

After implementing of the rule "max 10 NVC per PoS reward" people started to divide their holdings to approx 100 NVC, thus creating many many inputs (especially some of large holders), plus PoS block likely creates 2 new inputs when generating, so the PoS diff now is so high, that, for example, I have an input with 90 days age and 1090 coin*days, and it still cannot give a birth to smth =\

Yeah, HBN is much fun, wow, such fast  Grin
94  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HoboNickels - HBN - Fast High Yield Stake - Advanced Wallet - Fun Community on: April 06, 2014, 11:39:45 PM
Well, in NVC model system (as far as I know) it is used something like 6 PoS +2 PoW blocks per hour (I may be wrong with exact numbers, needs to be clarified...Edit: target is 144 PoS blocks per day and 48-144 PoW blocks, which means 6 PoS+ 2-6 PoW per hour), it is a target (may be even hardcoded) and both PoS and PoW difficulties try to match this parameters based on the speed of block finding by PoW (hashpower) and PoS (stakeweight).

This is how I see it's working, interesting how this implemented in HBN.

P.S. as you can see from Novacoin network difficulty charts http://charts.novaco.in/ there is no direct relation between PoW and PoS graphs, PoS difficulty is constantly growing, and PoW diff is fluctuating.

Or may be I am completely wrong and just don't understand well the design of such hybrid PoS/PoW systems  Grin

P.P.S. hmm now I see Tranz post at cryptocointalk.com "They are related in that they both change difficulty to try to get to 30 second block time." Interesting...

Guys, you should do some research. PoW and PoS have their own difficulties, 1st depends on hashrate, and 2nd on stakeweight of the network.

Скриптовых много, мощности по ним размазываются более менее.
Плюс, судя по-всему, грядет расцвет scrypt-N и keccak валют, которых пока по пальцам можно пересчитать.

I downloaded v.1.3.6.0 of the windows wallet, ran it. All went smoothly, syncing will stop now and then but nothing serious. A bit of patience is often needed with wallet syncing. Great job. I single handedly mined 2 blocks this night. Wow.

very hobo, much minting, profit wow.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL  Grin But you're right, HBN is the best!

(We really have fun community, and that's great.)  Cool
May the hobo be with you.

100  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CoinChoose - alternative site to show respective profitability of the alt coins on: April 02, 2014, 09:28:42 PM
Hi Sal, long time no type.  It seem your HBN daemon is reporting an incorrect block. If you are on version 1.2 you will need to upgrade to version 1.3. As the level db change, has now forced off old Berkly's db clients.
HBN (and some other altcoins) is seriously and still miscalculated on CoinChoose even as of today.

Block count and difficulty hasn't been correct in while.
