801  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Eligius reported hashrate on: June 12, 2011, 01:07:41 PM
Hi,

I'm new to pool mining but I'm trying to track down whether this is a bug or not.

I am running cellminer on my PS3, for no reason other than I like putting the cell broadband architecture to good use.

According to cellminer the ps3 should be doing 21.470 Mh/s. I am currently contributing to the Eligius US pool.

According to the pool's stats I am only doing ~7.9 Mh/s.

Which is correct? Or is there some way that both are correct and that my miner is somehow wasting cycles calculating old hashes? I dunno, is someone able to please enlighten me.

The 21mh/s is correct. There is no way for the pool to know how many hashes your hashing per second. It estimates it from the amount of shares you submit. More luck (=more shares) = higher mh/s on the pool site, less luck (=less shares) = lower mh/s. etc.

804  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Using the "same" bitcoin on multiple computers on: June 12, 2011, 12:38:13 PM
The question has probably been asked previously, but I am new to bitcoin
and I don't see any help about this.
How do you "transport" a bitcoin environment from computer to computer
so as not to have to reload again all blocks from the internet?
Is it OK to simply copy and paste the "Bitcoin" directory from one computer to the other?
(I am using Windows on a PC)

If you want to move computers, and not use the original one again, copy everything from %appdata%\Bitcoin\ to the same location on the new computer. Then load the client up on the new computer and check it's working. If it is, delete folder on other pc. Simple. Smiley

If you just want to copy the blockchain across, go into %appdata%\Bitcoin\ and copy the 2 largest files into the same folder on the other computer.
805  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Trojan Horse - bitcoin-miner.exe on: June 12, 2011, 12:34:10 PM
Hi,

I am only running bitcoin-miner.exe from Ufasoft.

After my last AVG update I keep on get a waring that the file bitcoin-miner.exe contain a Trojan horse called Agent3.LWC - is this a FakeAlert or aq serious threat?

Thank you,

Hamburger

If your sure it's the one from Ufasoft, it's a false positive.

807  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New bitcoin client introduced. on: June 12, 2011, 12:08:12 PM
You wont be able to send bitcoins untill you have generated 50 shares in a bitcoin pool.

Why?
808  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Blocks and bitcoins? on: June 12, 2011, 11:42:11 AM
just a few newbish questions which I cant seem to understand on the internet.

So i've started getting a few blocks and yeah its great but.. what do i use the blocks for and how do I get the bitcoins?

Thank you.
Matt

I don't think you've been getting blocks, you've been getting shares. Login to your pool interface and check how many coins you have.

Blocks are a way of which bitcoin keeps track of transactions between 2 (or more) addresses.
809  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: MtGox trading stopped now?? on: June 12, 2011, 11:11:16 AM
MtGox trading stopped?

1) Try to enter an order and the response (after a delay) == "Another trade is still in progress, please retry in a few seconds", every time.

2) The ticker has been stuck at the exact same place for over 10 minutes
{"ticker":{"high":21.8,"low":10.25,"vol":180944,"buy":16.088,"sell":16.31,"last":16.31}}

Are you able to place an order at MtGox right now?

Kind of, MagicalTux said there was a bug (in mysql, i think) that caused the whole system to lockup.
He's in IRC answering questions now.
810  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mtgox support issues/ transfer issues on: June 12, 2011, 11:07:26 AM
So - because of the new restrictions I have no place to post this where it MIGHT reach magical tux/ improve the mtgox support situation. 50 posts is a pretty high bar for relevancy considering this is the defacto all of bitcoin support and community forum.

I transfered a large amount of USD to Mutum Sigilum's ( mtgox) dwolla account on June 9th. This amount has still not been credited to my account. I have sent 2 emails to support. Initially I received a canned response that I would hear from support in 36-48 hours. When 48 hours had passed without satisfaction, I emailed again. This time I got a zendesk ticket. Mtgox had obviously changed its ticket system - thats great. Problem is, it has been another 24 hours now and I still have received 0 communication from mtgox on this issue.  Anyone else having support and or transfer issues with mtgox?

MagicalTux said there was a bug in mysql that caused the whole trading system to lockup. He's restoring services soon, then your transaction should go through. He's on IRC now if you want to talk to him.
811  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Restored Wallet.dat No Balance on: June 12, 2011, 10:28:50 AM
Just to report in the balance was restored.

4 backups later and a hell of a lot wiser I realize how fragile my wallet is and the need for good backups is apparent.

I am very computer literate but I have to admit the process to do backups and then learn to use trucrypt was quite the undertaking.

I think it should be emphasized even more that the bitcoin client needs to be shutdown completely before backing up. I can see someone not realizing it is still running in their task bar and having problems.

Perhaps in my earlier attempts not al of the blocks had downloaded and I would have received the balance regardless and this is actually not as big of an issue as I thought.

I think the next step is making a how to video on backups for the average joe. One for just securing from loss, and then a second for securing from theft.

Yeah, I might add auto backup + encryption to BitMiner later on down the track. Bitcoin should probably lock the file, so you can't even read it while the client is open.

oh snap, you done been pinned!

*have? Tongue

He's from the ghetto.  Doing hash calculations by hand and submitting them manually using binary code by tapping his screw driver to the motherboard.

Wish I could do that.
813  Other / Meta / Re: Reporting a moderator on: June 12, 2011, 09:56:39 AM
Hi, today the moderator DiabloD3 deleted my posts containing 2 images (annotated market charts), in this thread
http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=15509.0

He not only deleted my images, but also at least one post of another member replying my thread. The charts where important for the information I was comunicating, and it took me time to get them, annotate, and upload.

1. I would like an explanation for this rude beavior.

2. Is there an appropiate place to report bad moderation practices to the forum owners?

He wouldn't have just deleted it for no reason. If you think it's necessary, pm one of the admins.
814  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Restored Wallet.dat No Balance on: June 12, 2011, 09:52:43 AM
I don't have an older copy.
I am running a mac so i don't have an exe file
How do i run a -rescan on a mac version?

Any other ideas?

If my transaction data is there shouldn't I still be able to recover it?

get to 50 posts (will take a while) then you can talk to someone with knowledge.

You don't need todo -rescan. It's been
implemented automatically into the newer clients.
Just wait for the entire blockchain to finish downloading,
if you don't have any (or very little) connections try adding some Fallback Nodes.

816  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Auto Switch pools if one is down. Is it possible? on: June 12, 2011, 09:30:36 AM
I read somewhere that there is a GPU miner that can switch from one pool to another if it detects that one is down or unresponsive. Can anyone point me to a tutorial on how to set this up?

Quote from: LightSpeed
yes i believe the one I was using last night by SomeoneWeird has this feature

Yeah, BitMiner has fallback support.
817  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Mt. Gox drops to $10 -- reconsidering your mining rigs? on: June 12, 2011, 06:31:11 AM
That other thread is SO 24 hours ago. $20 is a pipe dream now!

Nope. When monday comes in the US, it will go back up.
