Roll Eyes Duh -- hot wall plugs mean you are overloading it or bad wiring or there are poor connections in it. Have proper wiring and wall receptacles installed by a qualified electrician...
802  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience has a new stickminer that does 300+GH on: January 26, 2022, 04:12:56 AM
Am I mistaken or did a compac f hit a solo block with a 35.5t share?
If so It means it is a verified solo mining stick.
Yes 1 did, check -ck's solo pool thread about it.
And yes, that means it is verified the updated cgminer Kano did for it works as expected. Too bad certain dev-fee ripoffs of cgminer (or BoS which is clean code) cannot/will not provide the same irrefutable proof their software works.

wouldn't this enable a quicker solution if all miners were searching a smaller section of the pool rather than randomly searching the whole pool?
You cannot force 'a quicker solution'... You are forgetting the Bitcoin algo's built-in requirement that the average time between block is 10 minutes. Roughly every 2 weeks anything that changes that average time triggers a change in difficulty to correct for that change.

Something that 'solves blocks faster' be it more and better hardware or some previously unknown software hack just increases diff so is a null-game.

I'll look for a software option so.
Discussion of altcoins belongs in the altcoin areas...
That said, any sha256 coin that needs 'special' software aka a coin or pool-specific fork of cgminer could be a problem. The F's REQUIRE. the driver that Kano put into v4.12 - if the special software is based on an earlier version of cgminer then the folks who wrote it need to update their fork.

If the coin can just be mined by pointing at their address and either entering your User name or a coin wallet address then yer all set. Just fire up cgminer and do it/

What's to be unsure about? The block header provided by -ck himself has all the details:

I see someone hit a block with the USB stick miner running 4.1.12?   What is the latest cgminer for R606?

Thanks
The 606 is not cgminer version specific per-se but it DOES require that the version has drivers for it. Prior to Kano updating cgminer to run the F, all Gekko products required using VH's fork of 4.11. It will run just fine using the latest 4.12.0 from Kano as he has included drivers for all of the Gekko products as well as all the previous legacy drivers for other chips.

I'm new to the forum and I didn't know the compact f, I thought it was amazing, I mine with gpu at the moment.
I would like to know if with compact f I can mine other SHA256 coins?

Should do no problem

Thanks.
I just need the compact F and a USB hub to get started correct? In addition to having a computer. I did a little research and it's hard to find compact f to buy.
Be aware that the hub MUST be able to supply at least 2.1A to the port the stick is plugged into. If you OC the F you will need up to 3.2A or more. A hub saying it it has 7 ports and can 'supply 60W' means that is total across ALL ports. Odds are any 1-port is limited to 2a or less...
808  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: why does one miner not mine all blocks? on: January 24, 2022, 07:43:40 PM
You really should correct that erroneous twitter report when reporting about it.
As the block information shows they ran 8.6T, not 86....
Their 7-day peak rate was 86T (rental?) for the user but the current speed was 8.31T

The speeds for the worker found it -- more impressive! Current worker speed was 3.65T, 5-min avg was 3.25T, 1hr was 3.32, 1 day was 3.41 and 7-day avg was 2.49T -- much more impressive of a find than saying they were running 86T at the time...

I changed it, sorry.
Merit given for doing that. Too many folks just ignore helpful suggestions.

Getting a COMPAC F soon in the mail after waiting 2 months for supplies to replenish... looking to solo mine CHTA during resets with Cgminer 4.12... although it looks like I will be on a pool until solo mining is supported for either Ubuntu or Windoze...
Glad yer finally getting yer Compac-F Cheesy

Choice of OS is irrelevant. Core is what 'broke' solo mining Bitcoin - not cgminer. AFAIK, Kano's update to 4.21 did not change anything related to it. The main issue started when Stratum was introduced and yes, by default cgminer has required using Stratum for several years now.

However, considering that Kano is the 1 remaining original developer of cgminer who still actively supports it and he has ZERO interest in supporting any crapcoin forks do not expect him to 'fix' the solo mining-to-your-own-node issue just so you can mine a sha256 alt. As for mining BTC to your own node - terrible idea. Kano's views on it are well known so again, do not expect him to be addressing that particular non-issue anytime soon Wink

That said, altcoins have their own areas in the Forum - use them. This area deals exclusively with Bitcoin. The cgminer 4.12 source code is freely available so if someone in the altcoin sections is up to it, ask them about making a fork for it.
813  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Best Bitcoin mining software for linux? on: January 22, 2022, 12:19:27 AM
For mining Bitcoin just CPU or GPU's: None. Perhaps read this pinned msg as to why...
Mainly point-3

Now as for running cgminer as a front end to say Sidehack's newest USB stick miners -- use Linux. I initially ran that stick under Win10 and later moved it to a RasPi3B: at same clock speed using Raspian gave a 10% increase in hash rate and allowed the stick be remain stable almost 150MHz faster than it did under Winbloze.
814  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Ultra-Low-Voltage Energy-Efficient Bitcoin Mining ASIC from Intel (23 Feb 2022) on: January 21, 2022, 09:24:57 PM
Well for chip making, shift from Asia and specifically, Taiwan (not China). AFAIK Russia has next to no cutting, much less bleeding-edge fabs that use EUV litho processes. China definitely does not 'cause the West will not sell them the EUV tech and for at least the foreseeable future they cannot just copy it because they have no access to or ability to copy the underlying tech involved. PCB mfg and assembly of miners is a different matter.

That said, it's about freakin' time!

Wonder if Intel is planing doing their mining chips at the new Fabs to be built in Ohio? https://www.cnet.com/tech/computing/intels-100b-ohio-megafab-could-become-worlds-largest-chip-plant/

It's now at: $39,113. Looks like Mr. Fuzzy and I are both underwater on our last trades.
meh. Actually I just did another small buy @ 38.25k.
Considering I have no need to sell any in the near future it all works fer me. I have utter faith that we'll at least go back above the 42k mark and no doubt will shoot far higher than that. The eternal question is of course: When?

Worse comes to worse if prices are still down *when* I do sell some I can always use the the loss as a capital gains tax loss.
817  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Bitmain's new Antminer S19 Pro with cooling technology... on: January 21, 2022, 02:05:36 AM
Quote
My doubt how much productivity will it enhance? and what extra benefits will it have over the past ASIC machines?

It has its benefits, it probably runs a lot cooler, dust-free, a lot less noise, but at the end of the day, it's just an overclocked S19 that will sell for a lot of money, judging by the previous hydro version Bitmain had which is the S9 hydro and how unpopular it was, I don't see how this one is going to be any different unless the price tag makes a lot of sense.

The S19 XP is a lot more effienct with 21w/th vs the hydro with 27.5w/th, which is pretty similar to the S19 pro.

The main strong point would be the noise part, but what I don't understand about the design is the 3 phase (5445w), this isn't home grade mining, so it has to be industrial for the most part, and industrial-grade miners don't give a damn about noise as far as I am concerned, however, a lot of companies gamble with their clients' money, which is why I won't be surprised if they buy these gears at a premium.
Well as I point out in the Thread about Intel's announcement to produce mining chips for new builds liquid cooling makes perfect sense. The pics I have posted in that thread are an eye opener from a fan and PSU maint point of view...
818  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Ultra-Low-Voltage Energy-Efficient Bitcoin Mining ASIC from Intel (23 Feb 2022) on: January 20, 2022, 10:59:41 PM
It makes sense for mega farms to once again be able to secure mining chips and just have their own custom miners built from them. Virtually every major data center does that with custom server mobo's and storage solutions tailored to their specific needs that they designed together with the actual hardware vendors that build them for the likes of Facebook, Amazon, Google, Hulu, Netflix etc. For new build outs I foresee most being liquid cooled setups rather like BM's ANTRACKS. Gives the maximum power density per cu/ft with none of the problems of scaling up immersion tank setups. Air cooling should be right-out.

Whenever I see farms like this I always have to ask  -- why in the hell...? Noise be damned, maint of the fans and PSU's has to employ over a dozen techs and other support people just to keep up with expected failure rates...
And by today's standards that farm in the above pic was a fairly small operation...

eg...

Way back around 2013 there was a 'monster' farm in Oregon that rolled their own miners using BitFury chip and their own hashboard designs. Somewhere I have an article saying their were pulling over $250k a day in BTC rewards...

Update on the expected performance specs https://www.anandtech.com/show/17218/intels-next-gen-bitcoin-asic-called-bzm2-built-on-7nm-137-gigahashsec-at-25-w

😄 As I said earlier, that is pretty much what I expected to hear for them. 7nm lets them get REAL experience using their EUV litho processes and in theory by not shooting for 5nm makes it easier to hit those performance targets.
More to the point, of course since they already have their own Foundries using EUV there are no other customers (or at least very few) vying for a place in the production lines.
820  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Ultra-Low-Voltage Energy-Efficient Bitcoin Mining ASIC from Intel (23 Feb 2022) on: January 18, 2022, 11:56:24 PM
As I posted on Discord
Quote
My take is that Intel is building on their recent DARPA contracts for ASIC crypto chips https://www.datacenterdynamics.com/en/news/darpa-partners-intel-domestic-fpga-asic-program/
Since mil chips need to be as fast and low power as possible, it makes sense for Intel to follow the lead taken by TSMC and Samsung to very cheaply test out designs and production processes by making mining chips. As I've said in the past, ja Apple, Cisco, Broadcom et al drove and paid for all the research into ever-shrinking node sizes but it was the Foundries producing the far cheaper and more fault-tolerant mining chips by the gazillions that sped up them perfecting the processes.

OF course, as we saw last year, once the processes for the 5nm nodes were  vastly honed to perfection the Foundries then shifted production capacity to their bread and butter customers and left BM and friends with crumbs. 😉
Who knows, maybe by practicing on low cost mining chips, Intel might one day figure out how to get their CPU's below the 10nm node...🤔
Considering that Intel is one of the handful of Foundries that have the EUV litho equipment required to produce chips with 7nm and smaller gate sizes it makes sense for them to put it to good use by practicing on mining chips.
