801  Other / Meta / Re: best replies should appear first in a thread. on: September 26, 2023, 09:50:20 PM

The idea of ranking posts based on merit seems interesting (moving posts with merit to the front pages), but wouldn't that disrupt the natural flow of discussion on the forum and create confusion in the sequence of posts? That is, it will turn out that the answers to the questions will be in front (the first pages) of the questions themselves. In my opinion, this will create chaos with posts.

It will definitely affect the arrangement of the thread and it’s post, the replies was arrange in such a way that it looks more like a chat group where they follow sequentially. But if you bring those replies up base on merit then you will have a disorder. I have notice that most replies that actually get those merit more are the replies that sometimes correct the mistakes from  other members replies, so if you arrange them base on merit then the replies that were corrected will be bury down.

This idea wouldn’t work out because if there is no merit then which of the posts comes first and or will the moderators be given another very hand work to fish out the best replies? The whole concept is good but surely one can’t be implemented. The best thing is if a thread is related what you are interested in then find sometime and go through it. You Might even find something helpful for you without it been merited to take It up the post ladder
802  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What to do with spam and scam tokens on my wallet? on: September 26, 2023, 06:19:07 PM
I'm already a Hero Member (going Legendary), but now I can say that "ranks don't matter when it comes to knowledge" because I don't know that term "address poisoning". If only I didn't read this post, I won't know what would be the main reason behind these scam tokens being distributed. Thanks for sharing this, and the links.

I would say this is part of the beauty of this forum, you learn vital things for free from people who go have vast knowledge or experience on the subject matter. Even I wasn’t much aware of this scam not until I was going through that thread and found out what it is called.

So in short, they're just sending tokens just to monitor the address? If that's the case then it isn't harmful then as long as you will not give money, and personal information to them, and not download anything suspicious online?

Change of address is the best solution with this one if you find it annoying, but I guess just ignore it would be an another option as well.

Exactly you would have to be careful with your dealings from that wallet and any one connected with it, scammers can take advantage of just anything and we all know they would certainly only get access to it through phishing attack,

Just as you said if one is not comfortable then he can just change wallet. But even if you change it you can not send directly to this new address from the old one because it will still link. Rather you would have to spend it through exchange and then probably back to the new Wallet. But overall you do not need to panic if one is not doing anything wrong
803  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto exchanges have to learn and improve on their security on: September 26, 2023, 02:25:09 PM

Since the majority of users appear to have welcomed the requirement for required KYC, I believe the focus should now be on enhancing exchange security.

I don’t agree that majority have actually agreed to the KYC protocol implemented by exchanges, it is mostly exchanges that have come to the conclusion that KYC adds another level of security to their users. If you read some news once any non-KYC exchanges enforces KYC you will see some of the users fuming, most especially bitcoiners. Most just stick to the exchanges because they aren’t many out there that can provide them with some features they want. Decentralized Exchanges would have been a place to habour them but most do not have enough liquidity.

I am aware that KYC may reduce fraudulent activity, however dealing with hacking and security exploitation issues will need investing in the strengthening of security. Adoption could happen quickly with sufficient protection because safety will be assured.

One effective way of preventing this security breaches is to be very cautious in handling our storage devices, do not because you looking for something easier you compromised your security like not going through to have knowledge of how to save your money or coins on cold wallets, to not wanting to take the stress of having to store your keys yourself and there for either entrusting your keys to others or storing the funds on platforms. Also carefully scrutinizing any related information concerning your accounts ranging from mails that could contain phishing links or downloading just any applications
804  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Warning] Even the official links aren't safe anymore. on: September 26, 2023, 01:03:29 PM
Just like what others have said, the mistake is coming from You, it is obvious you gone through the wrong link. Maybe you should post the link here to help someone newbies identify the clone one.

Now the question is which application did you login your account into because you said it was from there you went to his clone site, if it is so then I think you have a bigger problem at hand because it seems you are using a wrong/phishing app or link to login to your houbi account
805  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Germany League - Bundesliga Prediction Thread on: September 25, 2023, 10:17:11 PM

Talk of Dortmund that was very brave of them to keep trying to win their matches. Although I had doubts about the club's performance this season due to the players they sold without replacing them with others better than them but they are still trying to make the club reach the top, and I'm sure they can try their best to make among the top 4 this season.

Dortmund poor summer transfer window is a thing of concern seriously because they didn’t directly sign the replacement of the players that left. But still I will give it to them that they are still getting points. They are currently just two points behind the leaders and this isn’t bad for them but the major concern is you don’t allow Bayern to open gap at the start like that and right now Bayern isn’t the only club ready to go for the title only this season, Bayer Leverkusen have shown that they have what it takes to either steal the trophy from Bayern Munich or better still fight till the end.

I seriously like this fight even though other clubs might fall back sooner or later but it is a good start. Just 2 points separates the top 6 and this looks like another season like last season where most vital positions were decided on the last day. I wouldn’t mind this season following through too
806  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Europa League 2023/24 Season on: September 25, 2023, 10:04:59 PM
Liverpool strength is not new and the team has been elite for a long while too; they just had an injury ravaged season inn the previous campaign which derailed their performance and forced them down only to Europa league spot in the previous campaign. Can Liverpool push for the Europa league title and top 4 simultaneously? Time will tell

Liverpool is definitely the clear favourites to win this year’s Europa league, this is subjective to changes considering which of the clubs that will fall down from the champions league. Even if this clubs come down they a Liverpool team will challenge just any. Liverpool had a bad season last season because of the departures mostly notably Mane, he left the club and broke the trio between him, Salah and Firmino. Liverpool clear replacement for him had a very bad season. Although Nunez scored some goals, but his wasting of chances was what affected Liverpool the more and also they had all their senior midfielders missing most part of the season due to injuries. All this contributed to their poor start and after regaining form towards the end of the season they couldn’t make the UCL

The other club I guess can rival Liverpool for the trophy currently is Bayern Leverkusen. They look like an established team under Xabi Alonso’s management. They are second on the Bundesliga table same point with Bayern Munich. I believe they are capable to take Liverpool on
807  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why do hacks still occur? on: September 25, 2023, 09:37:53 PM
There is no way that anything developed by human can be said to be impregnable, just that the penetration rate of each one differs base on its design and where it is design on.

Concerning exchanges, we all know that most exchanges uses two different storage, one is the cold or offline wallet and the other is hot or online Wallet. It is the hot wallets that normally gets compromised because it is online. The hacker could get access either through collaboration with an insider in the platform or he first hacks the insiders device to get access.

Also the hot wallet is online so definitely anything online is possible to be hacked
808  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What to do with spam and scam tokens on my wallet? on: September 25, 2023, 01:45:40 PM
This is called address poisoning according to Faisal2202. It is method used by scammers to probably monitor the address and it is hard to stop this kind of attack because you can not stop people from sending you coins or tokens. If you are uncomfortable then a change of address is needed.

Here is also a thread by Pmalek you can read through get some measures on attacks like this
809  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does layer 2 help? on: September 25, 2023, 05:59:01 AM
how is it possible to make your transactions occupy the smallest block space possible so as to reduce your transaction fees.

The first two things to do manually is to use a native segwit (bc1q) for your transaction as this has been the best compare to other address formats.
I intended on using P2SH  or Bech32 SEGWIT because I am aware legacy addresses incure more fees .is it set to use layer 2 in default

I would advice the use of Bech32 segwit because it is like the upgrade of the P2SH. The only advantage of P2SH addresses then was it is compatible with old version Softwares but right now almost everyone and every software uses the native segwit (Bech32), so there is no advantage again of using the former
810  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does layer 2 help? on: September 25, 2023, 05:38:10 AM
how is it possible to make your transactions occupy the smallest block space possible so as to reduce your transaction fees.

The first two things to do manually is to use a native segwit (bc1q) for your transaction as this has been the best compare to other address formats. This is achieved because the digital signature is what actually occupies space of the block during a transaction (around 60% space). The segwit removes/separates this signature data from the main transaction saving up the space for more transactions and that is why it is assumed that the block size has categorically increased from 1Mb to 4Mb while using this address format

The second thing is to make sure to use the smallest possible inputs and outputs, because as the more the inputs and outputs the more the fees. The transaction fee is always calculated by the number of inputs and also possible outputs. You can reduce the UTXOS to used as input through consolidating your address or change addresses.

When you have multiple inputs for transaction and probably lesser number of outputs then the use to Pay-to-taproot addresses (bc1p) is advice to been use and if it it’s the the other way of having multiple outputs and less inputs then the native or version 0 segwit is advice and also for transactions with almost same number of outputs and inputs.
811  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to keep safe the mnemonic phrase - Whats Your method? on: September 24, 2023, 09:20:09 PM
Since this has to do with storing your seed phrase physically then I would prefer to write it down and add some code-name in my native language in the beginning and ending of the seed phrase, then keep one of my seed phrase in the house where I stay and the other seed phrase in my village.

But let's say for instance, after keeping the seed phrase there, in those two places, I will still want to have it somewhere so that even if I travel, I should still be able to access my seed phrase. So I think the best way I can do this , is to have it on my Google Drive. But of course it's going to be encrypted and at the same time it will be stored with any of my Bitcoin address or, with the use of some simple alphanumerical characters. I will definitely activate the two step verification on my Google so that I am notified once there's any security breach attempts.

First of all saving them with a those names you just stated will simply make them a bit difficult to understand when decoding them, you can trust your mind during its early stages of using this names but ones it gets long you could end up missing them together and there by making mistake of there order. This is similar to using colors to designate them and it is also not advice due to mixing them up

The idea of a google drive is also not available because it is as same as storing them on your Gmail. Once anyone gets access to them they could see it there. The best way is to take away from any online platform
812  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Nested SegWit vs Native SegWit on: September 24, 2023, 09:07:22 PM
The both sigwit addresses have an advantage of reducing the transaction fees.

The nested segwit address is called a Pay-to-script-Hash (P2SH) and it’s  suitable for multi sig Wallet and can reduce transaction fees by 26%. It is compatible with both new and old softwares. The problem is not all software can get its message verified.

The native segwit is the mostly widely use address version because just like P2SH addresses it reduces transaction fee but this time more than Nested. It reduces the fees by almost 52%. It’s only major disadvantage is that it is not compatible with old wallets. Just like it said above it is best when sending to multiple addresses from one address

You can read about them here en.bitcoin.it

We don't know, can you send me a message on Telegram so I can give you the screen? On the blockchain site, when we enter the hash, it says that it is pending
Telegram: Merikh34

Telegram? People here do not engage there except for business purposes, because they believe it is the den of thieves. How about you just submit your transaction id here if it does has since you say it is pending or better still upload the screenshot here.

But that wallet privacy will definitely be affected, so you actually Pm him on the forum to help but I strongly doubt he will be with you at telegram.

Also be careful because many scammers will be flooding your telegram DM now to say they want to help you do not reveal your seed phrase or private key
814  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: The matter is pending on: September 24, 2023, 06:32:45 AM
Since your transaction was first broadcasted then it is clear that it has been dropped by the node or server your friend is connected to because of the low transaction fee, it is possible that it might be broadcast and not all nodes received it. Just try to follow the procedure by TryNinja and simply broadcast a new transaction
815  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: -26: txn-mempool-conflict - code: 400 (Trust wallet) on: September 24, 2023, 05:26:13 AM
Just like others have said, you’re trying to spend a transaction using same client as the one that broadcasted the first transaction which is yet to get confirmed and since the node already has it then it is a conflict transaction and is seeing as a double spending which could get it dropped.

What you will do is to broadcast a new transaction from a different wallet so that it will be broadcasted by a node different from the first transaction. You can also broadcast the transaction from https://blockchair.com/broadcast if you have raw transaction HEX.

Or better still import the seed phrase into BlueWallet and try to get the old transaction RBFed or if you have the first transaction receiving address then import that wallet seed into wallet that supports CPFP and increase the transaction fee of the first transaction
816  Other / Meta / Re: Request for sent merit edit button on: September 23, 2023, 02:06:21 PM
Some months ago, I was doubting whether to send 2 or 1 sMerits to a given post, and ended up sending 21. It happens every now and then.

I recalled seeing a script to go with Tampermonkey that, though created in origin to speed-up somewhat the meriting process, was later enhanced to include an interface that could come in handy to reduce these type of mess-ups:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2833350.msg52249695#msg52249695

I guess one could yet evolve it to add a second confirmation for sMerit amounts sent when larger than X (a second confirmation for any amount would become a nuisance and, in any case, drive people to click yes by force of habit).

What actually messed mine up was like I just saw the post and was like let me send 2 then saw I had 24 smerits and in my head I would have 22 left after sending that two, then it was the 22 I ended sending. Maybe that’s punishment for hoarding something that was giving freely to me. But would have appreciated I splashed them on many posts or even a thread created not just a random reply.

Second confirmation would be actually helpful. But maybe things like this is teaching one how to avoid mistake on this crypto space, imagine it was bitcoin, I would probably be on drips now.

817  Other / Meta / Request for sent merit edit button on: September 23, 2023, 10:26:08 AM
Woke up this morning and was going through some threads and wanted to merit a post. My intention was definitely to send 2 merits because to that post and then got carried away and mistakenly sent 22, I didn’t even notice until I saw my smerits drained, yeah it is ok to spend all smerits but definitely the amount to be sent should match the content of the posts.

My reason for this post is shouldn’t we have something like a second warning when the confirm button is clicked, like ’are you sure you want to send this amount to so so’

Secondly shouldn’t we have a patch on editing merit sent even if it is for a specified time like how the edit button doesn’t reflect edited when it is done immediately the post is made.

PowerGlove is there a way to go round this?

Definitely pained to have wasted all my smerits on a single post.
818  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How can third-world countries counter inflation using bitcoin? on: September 23, 2023, 06:10:01 AM
Bitcoin has played a significant role in how transactions in developing countries are conducted at international level and also aided in them having something to invest or save their money into without been worried in any way of devaluation. Before the use of bitcoin for this many of the citizens of developing countries usually save their money in top fiat currencies like dollar just to beat inflation heavily affecting their own local currencies but the amount of this international currency like dollar’s available to them is not enough and also getting then through banks is a long procedure, right now bitcoin had breech that gap. Not only about saving into bitcoin but many from this developing countries can now purchase goods or services without converting their currency to any international currencies but rather with bitcoin from platforms that accept bitcoin as payment.

or hold onto their tokens as an investment.

It should be noted that tokens shouldn’t be used as investment because most of them do not have a long retention period and as such they should be as just things that can be traded. An investment is something that can be hold for a long time and only bitcoin has that potential
819  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What are some good, trusty casinos that support crypto as payment? on: September 22, 2023, 02:28:35 PM
There is a comprehensive thread by Pmalek which listed almost all casino’s that do accept bitcoin. I somehow trust the list since it is updated regularly, here is the link https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5333602.msg56883071#msg56883071

Another thread is Again is by notblox1 about casinos to avoid, at least this will help you to narrow down your search. Here is the thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5283832.0
820  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Operate Bitcoin Core on a laptop with restricted storage capacity on: September 22, 2023, 03:58:07 AM
I have read on the forum that it is possible.

Yes you can use an external hard drive to store the data directory but you might have to manually specify it since bitcoin core will not know it is on the hard drive. So when you start the client just specify that the dir is on the external drive not the system hard drive where it is installed on. Here is what I saw on how to specify it

Code:
bitcoind --datadir=<your_external_drive_location>

This YouTube video might help https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mLCOW6KkbQM

Note the external hard drive might always be connected when using the bitcoin core
