8181  Other / Politics & Society / Re: "UFO sightings spark concern from more than just conspiracy theorists" on: June 03, 2021, 08:01:11 PM
I think the latest videos just show testing of new technology.  I'm sure the higher ups in the military are well aware of exactly what these objects are.  CEOs of military tech companies have been saying for years that they have technology that is far beyond anything we've seen and that their limitations are the costs of these technologies.  I have no doubt that we as a species are capable of building much more advanced things than we know about.  The problem is making these things cheap enough where it is feasible to create them, and perhaps even profitable.
8182  Other / Meta / Re: Help request - legendary user "slush" tagged as a scammer during forum hack on: June 03, 2021, 07:08:03 PM
- Anything that slush himself can do?

slush is a pretty prominent and important figure in Bitcoin's history given his implementation of pooled mining.  He stays at the forefront of mining pools with signaling and other innovations.  I have no doubt if slush cared whatsoever about this forum or his account, he could very easily contact theymos and get the help he needs.  slush isn't like the rest of us forum mortals.  He is a VIP no doubt.  If he can't get direct assistance from the Administration here, who can?

I would say maybe let slush worry about it.  If he cared at all, he wouldn't have negative feedback, believe me...
8183  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul - June 6 on: June 03, 2021, 06:52:02 PM
What's too good about it? I'm not sure the PPV numbers will be huge either. A lot of hardcore boxing fans won't be buying it so it'll be mostly Logan's fans bankrolling it I reckon. It's $50 USD in the states and over £15 on PPV here and I can't see many paying that considering it's going to be on at 4-5am in the morning. Wouldn't surprise me if it's a relative flop. Not something I'd pay for or even stay up for but it's the first thing I'll look for in the morning.

I'd pay for the chance to see either Floyd or Logan get knocked out.  I imagine more than fans of these two carrying this PPV, it will be those that hate them.  One thing is for sure, there isn't a lot of indifference for these two celebrities so I think it will be largely the "haters" that are fueling the PPV numbers.  I think it will definitely be a top 20 all time PPV draw, and possibly a top 5...  I guess we'll see, but I don't expect this to be a flop.  The entire town in buzzing from crypto already and there's plenty of money going around.  Every place with a TV in Florida and a view of the beach will probably be televising this and paying big fees to do so.
8184  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: June 03, 2021, 06:46:54 PM
Lakers with their back to the wall seems like a good bet...  With no AD though and the Lakers playing terrible, could this be LeBron James' earliest exit from the playoffs ever?  The NBA has already scheduled game 7 on TNT (other series have their game 7 stated as "TBD") so it seems like at the very least the television folks believe the Lakers will win today...  Slip up in scheduling or the seeds of a conspiracy?  You be the judge.  In any event, I'll be watching tonight and looking forward to what I think will be one of the best games of the year so far.  Enjoy!
8185  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2021 NBA Season on: June 03, 2021, 09:15:10 AM
Kawhi shooting an air ball 3 in the corner? Damn, Playoff Rondo getting mad as hell.

I will get mad as well, the comparison of Kawhi to Lebron and to some extend to Kobe is not fair. Kawhi needs to prove more, and today's airball will be more remembered that the shots he made in 2019 against the Sixers.

Not over yet for the Lakers, I still think that there's some thing inside of Lebron that says they can win the next game and will be Lebron's another defining game 6 moments, and the number speaks for itself.

When I saw Kawhi headed towards the corner I thought we were going to see another fading away bouncing around the rim end of game miracle shot.  The airball was a bit of a surprise...  It seemed like Kawhi was looking for someone to blame and Rondo wasn't having it.  It looked pretty clear that Kawhi needed to give up the ball once the defense was all over him.  Nowadays the star player always has to take the last shot for some reason, so he did what was expected of him.  He was pretty much in a lose/lose position, which is probably why he was looking to put blame on the person who threw him the ball.
8186  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Reputable escrow without network fees? on: June 03, 2021, 06:16:53 AM
I have done a few escrows using USDT, and while the fees can be cheap (I paid $1 for my last transfer) you still have to pay escrow fees so I wouldn’t base the escrowed currency solely on transaction fees. Whether or not you want to be exposed to variance in cryptos is probably the larger concern. Just be careful using services like LBC, as they will happily allow you to accept reversible payment types where you can lose your funds once escrow is released.
8187  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul - June 6 on: June 03, 2021, 05:03:59 AM
Each day closer to this event I can't help but try and find reasons why it won't be held.  It's almost too good to be true.  I think the PPV numbers are going to be insane.  The videos as we get closer to the fight only make me want to believe Logan has a chance, but as long as he goes in there and throws some bombers I think we'll be happy with the show.

They can say no judges and no winner read, but we'll all know.  If there's one thing I can say confidently, it's that this fight won't leave us wondering who the winner was.  *knocks on wood
8188  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2021 NBA Season on: June 03, 2021, 05:01:47 AM
I mean the Knicks definitely overachiever this year but after the way they played this year I thought they would definitely throw up a fight in the first round.  Couldn't have been more wrong.  They looked completely lost out there, terrible 5 games even the one they won...guess there is next year.

Both teams shot terribly, but it looks like the Knicks shot a little worse and the Hawks rebounded a little better.  The Knicks had been relying heavily on Randle to win games this season and his 23 points tonight just wasn't enough to do it.  Barrett shot pretty terribly as well.  He's going to need to be much more efficient if he wants to have a career in the NBA.  Making the playoffs in itself was a massive step forward for the Knicks though.  If they can hold onto and develop their talent, I could see them picking up a decent free agent and being a top 5 team in the East.
8189  Other / Politics & Society / Re: [POLL] What is the best covid-19 conspiracy? on: June 03, 2021, 01:08:05 AM
If we're going on wacky conspiracies alone...  I would like to put forth that the virus was created as a trojan horse for mankind to take a vaccine in order to cleanse our society of viruses that could be harmful to aliens as they begin mass integrating with our society.  These aliens have beaten common colds and flus so long ago that their immune system is no longer strong enough to fight them.  As a result they would be unable to participate in our society without first leading humans to herd immunity against such potentially harmful viruses.  As a unisex alien species, they must also normalize the idea of non-binary sexes and sharing of public bathrooms.  Shocked
8190  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does anyone else find Michael Saylor a bit over-the-top? on: June 03, 2021, 01:03:35 AM
The only thing that bothers me about Michael Saylor is that he's using the deep pockets of himself and his friends to attach himself to Bitcoin in a way he hasn't earned.  He learned about BTC only a couple of years ago, which would make him a newbie by most of our standards, yet the guy is spearheading Mining cartels and having meetings with Elon Musk about Bitcoin's future...  It's crazy how having a lot of money can make you instantly important wherever you decide to throw it.  I'm glad he's using his platform to promote Bitcoin, it just seems like sometimes he's using Bitcoin to create a platform for himself.
8191  Other / Meta / Re: An Alternative to Merit on: June 02, 2021, 10:16:09 PM
I think adding more positive things to this forum is needed.  So much time and effort is spent by members of this community on negative added value items like trust flags and negative feedback.  It would be nice to see members as proud of how much positivity they've spread or how many members they've been able to help.  Merit seemed at first like it would be a decent addition, but it's been mostly hijacked by merit circles seeking to control who gets to be in DT.  Adding something fun and positive without any negative association seems needed on this forum, even if it is functionally worthless.
8192  Other / Meta / Re: frodocooper nolonger a mod, what could have happened? on: June 02, 2021, 10:01:47 PM
This is too bad to hear.  I think frodocooper was a little heavy handed with the moderation, but you could tell that he was doing a great job at keeping the section clean.  I'm sure he probably stepped down once he started receiving heavy criticism on this board as that is what most people do, and I think that's a loss to us all.

Come back frodocooper!  I'm sorry for adding to the criticism.  We need longtime members like yourself who obviously care about this place to stick around.  I would take overmoderation of my threads before letting the trolls loose like has been the policy on the rest of this forum (as long as they don't mention a Bitcoin fork).  I hope the mining section doesn't become a new home for trolls.  There are less and less places here where one can engage in productive discussion and this is another big hit to the forum.
8193  Economy / Services / Re: OGNASTY’S LEGENDARY BITCOIN ESCROW SERVICE (More than 19K BTC transferred!) on: June 02, 2021, 09:34:27 PM
Seeing a lot of altcoin escrows these days.  USDT seems to be a somewhat popular trading vehicle recently.  A reminder that I'm usually open to escrow any type of cryptocurrency, not just Bitcoin.  With the high volatility, fees and slow confirmation times Bitcoin has been experiencing lately, using an altcoin like USDT for escrows makes a lot of sense and has seemed to emerge as a popular way to trade.  A lot of times people are sending from exchanges as well, which nearly eliminates fees in some cases.  Stay safe, but trade smart too!
8194  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will energy consumption be Bitcoins downfall ? on: June 02, 2021, 09:18:14 PM
Just as people moved from gasoline powered cars to electric will investors also move from bitcoin to ecofriendly alts?

Seems that has already been occurring.  New crypto investors don't care about decentralization or security.  They just want to see their number go up.  We are literally smack in the middle of the Greater Fool Theory.  We've seen 1 rug pull so far, but I think that was just a precursor.  The rug pull we'll see come December will leave people with their jaws on the ground.  On the plus side, a $30K Bitcoin will be viewed as a complete collapse, giving those of us with level heads the opportunity to do this all over again in 2025, if Bitcoin survives it's community that long.
8195  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2021 starting to look like 2013 more than 2017 on: June 02, 2021, 08:56:50 PM
Charts may look more similar to 2013, but that's it.   In 2013 blockspace wasn't a major issue.  Nobody expected the price to rise.  Investment by those using the Greater Fool Theory was non-existent.  Community projects were flourishing.

The community today and the Bitcoin experience when using the protocol is much different from 2013.  Everyone is expecting price increases now, community projects are few and far between, there's tons of altcoin competition, etc...  We are seeing 2017 repeated, only this time the big funds want to leave the little guys holding the bag so we'll see more mainstream investment through Wall Street Funds where they can take your money, charge you for holding your crypto, then stack and watch their management fees rise.
8196  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think of your first contact with BTC? on: June 02, 2021, 08:52:52 PM
The first time I came into contact with BTC, I felt that there was little difference between e-payment and BTC. However, with the gradual understanding, e-payment and BTC are becoming more and more different.
In essence, electronic payment is the circulation of legal currency in one or some countries, while BTC is the circulation all over the world( If every country agrees)

I thought it was absolutely amazing.  I could send money anywhere in the world instantly and nearly for free.  I saw lots of places accepting it, developers building all sorts of amazing things, the community helping each other and freely sending BTC to each other for jokes and assistance...  I felt like I'd discovered an internet paradise.  Sure, Bitcoin and the community today is unrecognizable by that description, but rest assured that at one point, this technology was awesome and this community was the best place on the internet.  Now we're skating by on nostalgia and signature payments, but man was this place something special 8-10 years ago.

I have a hard time imagining spending so much money on a vehicle.  I tend to think that people should spend less than 5% of their net worth on their vehicle (closer to 2%).  For me to own something like this, I'd have to be worth in excess of €100 million.  I'm not quite there yet, so I'd have to consider this car a pipe dream.  I couldn't imagine even wanting to own something so expensive.  Why would anyone do that to themselves?  Could you imagine the repair costs?  The disappointment if you scratch it? I think this is a product for billionaires to stick in a showroom.  Not an actual car meant for driving.
8198  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Merit] Hey Newbies! Can You Sign A Message? on: June 02, 2021, 08:22:53 PM

Seriously, why bother wasting your time with this when your posting history makes it so blatantly obvious you're a spammer for hire?  I'm clicking the ignore button on accounts more than I'm awarding merit these days.  I must admit though, seeing all the ignored users as I browse around the forum and not having to waste my time reading their nonsense has been the best side effect of this thread.  I feel like my ignore list is becoming more valuable by the day.
8199  Economy / Collectibles / Re: ANACS no longer grading physical cryptos? on: June 02, 2021, 08:17:49 PM
I'm guessing they finally realized that they were grading and certifying crypto coins as being legitimate without any knowledge of the blockchain or whether or not people would take that as their certification that the coins were indeed loaded as claimed.  If someone slipped an unloaded coin through and got it certified then sold it as loaded to someone else, I could see that leading to a very costly backlash scenario for them...  I wondered when this horrible business model would finally be exposed.  Now I'm just curious what sort of complaint they received, how much it cost them, and if lawsuits were involved or it was settled privately.  On the plus side, their gradings were highly inconsistent anyway, so this is no real loss for the community.  I'd even argue we are better off, as buyers won't be bamboozled into paying inflated prices for coins that were sent in repeatedly until they received a high grade.
8200  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2021 NBA Season on: June 02, 2021, 08:10:51 PM
The Lakers 2020/2021 team reminds me the 2011/2012 team, was a disappointment and they had a lot of allstars on the team and they were ready to beat the Heat in that season, (Wade, Bosh and LJ)
11-12 Lakers was a decent team but not a great team at all, the picture you are showing is the 12-13 Lakers which added Nash and Howard. Steve Nash missed a huge chunk of the season, Howard created all that drama during that season and Kobe got his most famous injury that eventually resulted with him retiring after few seasons. So basically this is not really a good example, if Lebron gets a super injury like ACIL or some tear whatever that causes him to be never the same player again, it could resemble, but I doubt that will happen.

AD is not out that much neither, he will come back soon, and the team is not really that much of a disappointment considering they literally won the cup last season, you do not have to win it every single season, you can win one and then let someone else win the next one. Which is why I am sure Lakers fans are probably fine about it, they won the league on their first playoffs after so many years missing it.

Agreed, the Lakers were in top contention until lebron and ad started missing games in the reg season.  The Suns are just a REALLY good team, they were #2 in the west.  Lakers were never going to knock them out in 4.  It's been a great series so far like it should be.  I expect game 6 in LA to be a great game as well.  Bron has never been down after 5 games in the first series.  Let's see how he does.

I definitely don't think LeBron is the problem.  He's putting up good numbers still.  The rest of his team is absolutely terrible.  This is something I'd expect to see from the '06 Cavs, not the '21 Lakers...  Drummond has been outplayed by Ayton all series.  Kuz has been missing in action.  KCP, terrible.  Wesley Matthews, terrible.  Marc Gasol, terrible.  Montrez Harrell, terrible...  The only players I see doing anything good with the ball out there are Bron & Alex Caruso.  I never thought I'd be worried about a LeBron led Lakers losing to the Suns in the playoffs, but here we are...
