Death has started with internet.org

Some developments. TRAI has asked RComto put Free Basics (internet.org in a new bottle) on hold.

http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/tech/internet/rcom-says-commercial-launch-of-free-basics-on-hold-pending-trai-approval/articleshow/50298524.cms

The telecom sector regulator has Wednesday asked Reliance Communications (RCom) to submit the terms and conditions of Facebook's Free Basics services that the telco offers on its network, and asked the carrier not to offer it till the carrier submits the details.

Record highs predicted for Bitcoin in 2016 as new supply halves

http://www.business-standard.com/article/reuters/analysis-record-highs-predicted-for-bitcoin-in-2016-as-new-supply-halves-115122300371_1.html

2016 could prove to be the year that the price of Bitcoin surges again. Not because of any dark-web drug-dealing or Russian ponzi scheme, but for an altogether less sensational reason - slower growth in the money supply.

Bitcoin is a web-based "cryptocurrency" used to move money around quickly and anonymously with no need for a central authority. But despite being championed by some as the digital money of the future, it is often dismissed as a currency that is too volatile to invest in.

The reason 2016 looks set to be different is that bitcoin's price is likely to be driven in large part by similar factors to a traditional fiat currency, following the age-old principles of supply and demand.
823  Economy / Lending / Re: I need loan of 0.13 BTC or $58 BTC on: December 23, 2015, 01:42:36 AM
I can message you my email id. Once you update the email id  on betcoin.ag and give me your betcoin.ag account password, I will send you the bitcoins.

On repayment, I will send you the password and you can take control of your betcoin.ag account.
You will be the first one to know once the email used in my account has been changed to your email.

Great! Since I am not familiar with Betcoin.ag, you can guide me on how to withdraw funds to a bitcoin address once you receive your signature campaign payment.
824  Economy / Lending / Re: I need loan of 0.13 BTC or $58 BTC on: December 23, 2015, 01:18:56 AM
Just thinking out aloud - is it possible for you to give control of your Betcoin.ag account to somebody?
If the Betcoin.ag account password cannot be easily reset (i.e., you won't be able to take back control of it), then it effectively ensures that the lender has control over your signature payment money.
Hey, that is a good idea. Let me check if it is possible to change the email in my account.

My interest will not be exactly 15% so don't worry. I will be charging somewhere 12% - 13%.
10% is low for a 2 week loan
Okay, I can agree if the interest rate is 12%.

If it is indeed possible to give control of your betcoin.ag account, and you are still willing to give interest of 12%, I will be happy to give you a loan.
The email used in my account cannot be changed, but it is possible to change it.
Sure, 12% interest rate is fine for me. Smiley

Then you have to contact your campaign manager and tell him to change your campaign payment address to escrow address. And also give your account as collateral to escrow.
When payment of your campaign will be made to escrow address. Escrow will pay me $65 and will send you rest if any along with your account. If campaign payment will be less then you will have to pay extra to get your account back.
My campaign manager has told me that it is not possible to change my payment address.

I suspect a lot of people (myself included) would have been jumping to provide you this loan if change of payment address were indeed possible.
Unfortunately, it is really not possible to change my payment address. Take a look at the PM that I received from roslinpl.

Remember that your Betcoin.ag payment from the Stage 2 will be credited into your Betcoin.ag account.
We won't send your coins to anyone else. We will credit your account and then you can send money back.
I'm telling that because already two members aked me about it as they want to help you but they asked me to send your payment to them instead of to you which is not possible

Best regards.

Bitcoin's 'blockchain' tech may transform banking

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/tech/tech-news/Bitcoins-blockchain-tech-may-transform-banking/articleshow/50244419.cms

The technology that drives the shadowy cryptocurrency bitcoin is drawing interest from the established banking industry, which sees a potential to revolutionize the sector.

Although bitcoin and related virtual currencies are limited to a small set of transactions and are often associated with the underground economy, the so-called blockchain technology is gaining currency in the financial world.

Finance & technology giants such as Deutsche Boerse, JP Morgan, Cisco & IBM join forces as blockchain initiative grows

Big names from the worlds of finance and technology such as Deutsche Boerse, JP Morgan, Cisco and IBM have come together to work on an open-source framework for using the "blockchain" technology that underpins the web-based cryptocurrency bitcoin.

The new technology works as a huge, decentralised ledger of every bitcoin transaction ever made, which is verified and shared by a global network of computers and is therefore virtually tamper-proof.

New bids on the block

http://www.business-standard.com/article/opinion/new-bids-on-the-block-115121601198_1.html

Banks have a first-mover dilemma when it comes to blockchain technology. The ideas that underpin cryptocurrency bitcoin could allow banks to take an axe to their huge back offices. What's less obvious is whether to splash precious cash on investment now, or hang back.

For embattled chief executives trying to work out how to meet return-on-equity targets, blockchain could be a gift. The sector-wide savings could amount to $20 billion in annual sector costs by 2022, according to consultant Oliver Wyman's estimates.

Bitcoin solves the problem of lack of trust between anonymous counterparties by getting decentralised participants to clear each transaction between buyers and sellers. Banks can adapt this by doing the same thing, but in a private network. The result: no need for thousands of staff in each bank to check and clear the trading and lending that takes place in their customer-facing front offices.

Blockchain technology could reduce role of banks, says BIS

http://realty.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/technology/blockchain-technology-could-reduce-role-of-banks-says-bis/49901270

Blockchain technology could reduce the role of intermediaries such as banks and settlement houses, the Bank for International Settlements - or "the central bankers' central bank" - said in a report on Monday.

Blockchain technology - or distributed ledger technology, as many financiers prefer to call it - is what underpins bitcoin , a controversial web-based "cryptocurrency".

Blockchain and other tech trends banks need to watch out for in 2016

http://www.firstpost.com/business/blockchain-and-other-tech-trends-banks-need-to-watch-out-for-in-2016-2541980.html

Over the past couple of years, banks have learned the hard lesson that size doesn’t matter. If analysts have got it right, by 2020, 32 percent of banking revenues and 7 to 9 percent of profits will have gone away to digital, disruptive, non-bank providers. This trend of unbundling of profitable niches of the banking business by FinTechs, startups, and other non-banks, will only gather strength in 2016.

Besides thwarting direct attack from such providers, banks should also be wary of the million-zero aggregators, who have the scale, reach and technology muscle to easily invade the financial space. The only way traditional banks can survive this onslaught is by matching the capabilities of these new-age rivals. That means providing a great banking experience to customers, characterized by choice, flexibility, speed, convenience, availability, access, personalization and economy.
836  Economy / Lending / Re: Requesting loan of 0.565btc on: December 16, 2015, 02:05:13 PM
Hi,

Seeking a loan as follows:

Loan of 0.565btc
Repayment of 0.6btc
Term of 6 days
Collateral: none

Loan will be used as a buffer to prevent possible margin call on poloniex. The damn market can turn so quick I'll go from plenty margin into the red zone. I'd rather pay a bit of interest than lose a bunch.

Loan will be funded to my usual addy:
15SSSmXELHg4szZNzW71oKmBrpqvq9kTHZ

Cheers

Looks like there are other interested people. Plus I will have access to my wallet only in another couple of hours. If these don't work out, I will be interested.
837  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin going Up to 500? on: December 16, 2015, 01:19:50 AM
Only 38$ left to 500 so it's safe to say that we'll see 500$ in the near future. Maybe it will be before Christmas, maybe in January, but it's too close.

Yes, and this steady rise inspires confidence.
This increase looks like it will be sustainable. No flash in the pan.  Smiley

I can sign a message with the address in my sig? As for collateral... Do you mean physical items??

edit:

Address: 1bongsiuorE3w1rAtLRphay7a1TSfJ4BB

Message: Signed message for polynesia

--bennybong from bitcointalk!

Signature: GxtxaU7g/waJCYEJ9qC/5ENLn93ZJWvtTyuLF7aoegvIB0VcRy2nCvBx7PoOxMOFdtCyyuQMZozsLPBcbjD/+Z8=

The point of asking for a signed message is to ensure that the account isn't hacked.
Have you posted this address on bitcointalk.org some time before (6 months ago or before that)?
If you haven't, then there is no point in the signed message.
Plus, it is always advisable to include today's date in the message (otherwise signed messages can be reused)

Hi

I am a hero member here that is locked into a sale but due to the constant fluctuations in price I am now 0.09576 short!

If anyone can help me out on a short term basis. I can pay you back most probably before Christmas, if not by the new year.

I have funds coming in and really don't want to make the long old trip to get my cold wallet.

Many Thanks

Bennybong

What is the interest you would be willing to offer?
Can you sign a message from an old address that you have used.

Digital bancor

http://www.livemint.com/Home-Page/2R7YTYz6ZGCuQdiVxjw5ON/Digital-bancor.html

Goldman Sachs recently said it has developed a cryptocurrency that can be used to settle transactions in financial markets. The investment bank has already filed a patent application. Think of the new currency as a bitcoin for trade settlements. It is worth asking whether the coming years will see more such innovation. The regulatory response should also be worth seeing.
