I mine with GPUs and I prefer mining X11, X13 or maybe Keccak. Although if the project is solid I have no problem going along with Scrypt. Is this coin oriented toward ASIC mining for strong network from the begining? If not I would suggest Scrypt-N or maybe Scrypt OG variant to avoid rapid centralization with ASICs.
Anyway the project looks very tempting. I also like the name (Bitmark). Ill be watching it closely.
Again thank you, and glad you like the name One final question if you do not mind: would you, as a GPU miner, consider mining a coin (Bitmark) which has limited value to start, and which may take months to earn a value legitimately? Or put another way, would you be happy to mine it along the way, knowing that you may not see a return for some time, with the offset that it potentially has stronger value in the future? Glad you dropped in to contribute to the discussion.

Thank you for your reply, you got your point there and I respect it. There is nothing wrong with Scrypt and surely is widely supported, but as a miner what I dont like about the algo is the high temperatures and high energy consumption.
Thank you also. Do you mine with GPU or ASICs? As a miner which algorithm(s) do you prefer, and why?
|
|
|
What will the mining algo be? Isnt Scrypt PoW a lil outdated?
Scrypt, yes. Outdated not at all, perhaps mature and well supported are more descriptive of the algorithm. Remember "Our aim is to create a relatively stable, user focussed, crypto currency which refines and implements maturing innovations from the crypto currency sector" ... "no hype or gimmicks, just a project which focusses on becoming a stable every day currency". Rationale from https://github.com/project-bitmark/bitmark/wiki#proof-of-work : """Scrypt. A well balanced proof of work algorithm which is widely supported and for which hardware support is maturing. Large investment has been made by the mining community, and continues to be made. Whilst there are benefits to both Proof of Stake and multiple algorithm approaches, we feel that Scrypt PoW and the balanced coin release schedule which can be achieved with long term block rewards is the most suitable for this long term project. With an abundance of mining hardware available already it should also ensure a healthy network from the start.""" Has scrypt been proven to do the job we require? Yes. Is scrypt broadly supported? Yes. We don't want to reinvent the wheel here, rather we want to ensure the wheel is smooth, well oiled, and stable... fit for purpose. Thanks for your question danny, and please do review and question further, all input is most welcome.

I think logo number 2 is the best one out of the three. Are you going to be choosing one as an official logo or something, and keep the others for side uses?
Yes, one must be set as the main icon and logo for Bitmark, the others can be used in media, on the website, side uses as you say. Number 2 is also my favourite. Whichever we use must be recognisable and distinct at a small size (18 or 36px), and when used as an icon or in a button... "Pay with Bitmark". If we consider this from the start, it will save us problems later.

I would do it but... I just can't work on things I do not like...sorry but it's stronger than me. I understand Could you PM me and outline what you do not like about the current logo. Thanks.

OrganizationI have created a new github organization for the project and migrated repository's over. Project Bitmark can now be found at https://github.com/project-bitmarkThere will be 3 repositories created initially: - /bitmark the development tree of Bitmark
- /art-of-bitmark branding and artwork associated with Project Bitmark
- /pfennig cloneable reference implementation of Pfennig, the Bitmark Core
Pfennig - a reference implementation of bitmark, based on the latest bitcoin codebase, migrated to scrypt, reconfigured, with unconditional support for all implemented BIPs, and fully tested - is being prepared for release imminently. The purpose of Pfennig is to offer the community a new starting point when creating scrypt based coins, rather than the existing unsupported legacy code most alternative coins are based on. Art of Bitmark - Low and hi res branding files should be available in the art of bitmark repo from tomorrow. Bitmark - following the release of Pfennig, Bitmark specific modifications will be implemented creating a second round of genesis blocks and test chains. After thorough testing we will gitian-build the first Bitmark release for all platforms and release to the public.

LogoInitial Base: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=660544.msg7665000#msg7665000Requirements: - "BM"
- purple (#330066 - or variation of)
- circular background
- white symbol
- the single currency line on left and double on the right
Since then mymenace has kindly provided three variations: I am very happy with all three, and feel each has a use. mymenace: perhaps it would be nice to have a mono (black and white) version of 1 and 2. Regarding three I feel like the outer "bitmark" text should be aligned with the central logo, do you agree? allow: it would be nice to spread the work load you obviously have good design skills, we need the equivalent of this logo for the website, document headers, and so forth. Would it be okay if I asked you put any efforts you are willing to contribute in this direction, using 1 or 2 above with some nice "Bitmark" or "Project Bitmark" text to the right of it. For the testnet logo we need an alternative color, I very quickly autobalanced the original logo to create this, perhaps an alternative color would be more suitable, what do you both think? Soon, we will also need to consider a design for the website, and also a domain for the project. Thank you very much for your valuable contributions, they are very appreciated. Branding UpdateOver the next 24 hours we will be creating a new repo on github for branding and artwork. Mymenace has kindly offered to make the aforementioned changes and commit low and hi res art work to the new repo for other contributors to use and adapt as needed.

4. [IN-PROCESS] Implementing Unified Time Model [Synchronizes network to same time from a Seed Regardless of your time]. No more clock problems.
Do you have any more details on this published anywhere?

updateRunning out of things to do for the clone-able reference implementation of bitmark. I am going to sleep on it, review tomorrow, and then release the Bitmark RI (Pfennig) so that people can begin cloning. Bitmark itself is 95%+ complete, it requires taxation added, further testing, a dedicated server, and then it is ready to go live, this is all dependent on when we manage to secure a server for the project. I'd like to thank everybody for their feedback, input, and polite useful conversation throughout the various threads. It's been nice to see this side of the community shining through. If anybody would like to try building from the source, it would be appreciated. ( remember you build this as you build the latest bitcoin, not like typical alts)

Ok: https://i.imgur.com/qC5HFQi.pngBtw next time i need size, and this should follow the "global" design of BitMark. If BitMark has not, should be created before every graphics. Very nice design Can you #330066 for primary color please. Happy you worked out dimensions from linked file, and thank you for your time.

|
Yes, i can, but i don't understand where it goes, I have to see this. Can you do a screenshot?
|
|
|
Why? whyyyy do you do this?! because remix everything, and: I know, it's crazy
Seriously don't you like?
Yes I do like it, but would like the bitmark logo to be as simple as possible, it should look good in black and white at 50px, and be simple vectors. Somebody I know IRL likes the logo you have produced for a different venture, which shares the BM initials. A compliment I think.

nice, fused the two - very shiny: It would be nice to start a wiki page or repository for art work. Artwork is important, the more art of every style we have for bitmark the better.

I've had an offer of a matched donation. So now we only need to reach 0.3 BTC through the non-IPO to get all the resources required by the project. Project Status / Request for FundingThe project is in desperate need of a dedicated server and some resources, total cost of all resources is a one off amount of 0.6 BTC. Our current proposal can be found here: Non-IPO project funding?. Donations to 18rai2ichzUfXG6PVmUQLNPqBjtctnVRAD are also welcomed, if you donate please let us know so we can credit you in the bitmark client and on the website. This can be split between multiple people, it doesn't need one single backer of 0.3 Since this is a new page, please see the OP for full details and updates on the project.

I've added the branding to the client, looks good!

Have you heard of any coins that are doing anything new besides yours?
Yes loads. NXT does have some nice bits, lots of the anon coins like DRK, v2 systems like ethereum, mastercoin and ripple. Many of them.
|
|
|
I'm hearing a lot about NXT, what do they do?
premine all the coins leaving a handful of people to hold the vast majority of coin supply..
|
|
|
Very happy. If there are no objections I'll add this to the client today. Thank you for all your hard work mymenace

|
|
I like your project, do you need a designer?
Thank you, and yes We will have multiple resources which need adapted or designed over the course of the project, starting with the website. A simple question, how can I get some bitmarks? Mine or buy?
Soon by mining. 1) Clone-able Reference Implementation (not bitmark, just bitmark generic code) will be released in the next 24 hours, probably today. 2) Bitmark will be released soon after Unfortunately 2 is dependent on getting a dedicated server for the project and a some minor resources. We'll be ready to release Bitmark 24-48 hours after the aforementioned is addressed.
