821  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Can't recover funds from a watch only address on: April 30, 2021, 05:39:10 AM
Wallet address: 1PkQe6RwVPArxcaqpA8YxeGxvj3mBse6bn
Where did you get this Address from? Mycelium doesn't just generate random watch-only addresses for you... you have to explicitly enter it when setting up a "Stand Alone" Bitcoin wallet within the app.

So, you got that address from somewhere... the question is... WHERE? Huh
822  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Has anyone used the Incognito wallet? on: April 30, 2021, 05:34:36 AM
Swapping services are sometimes good to use because they don't have withdrawal fees. But when you are using a higher volume, they become expensive.
They may not explicitly have a withdrawal fee, but they just factor the "withdrawal fees" into their buy/sell spreads... So, while it may not technically be a "fee", you're still paying for it. Check the rates they give against the current values of the coins. They will 100% have factored in a margin that guarantees to cover the transaction fees and make a profit etc.
823  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: coinam inot working on: April 30, 2021, 05:30:12 AM
I concur with the above. Don't use Coinomi... there are much much much MUCH better Bitcoin wallets available. Coinomi is useful if you want to play with shitcoins, but otherwise it's pretty bad.

Thankfully Coinomi is BIP39 compatible, so you should be able to take your 12 word seed and restore you wallet in another BIP39 compatible wallet... perhaps have a look here: https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet
824  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Storing bitcoin offline, are these steps secure? on: April 30, 2021, 05:27:06 AM
7.Write the archive onto 3 mini CD-R disks. I will write multiple copies of the file until the disk is full, in case of partial disk damage/scratch or file
I assume you wanted to try and write multiple copies on each disc until it was full in an attempt to prevent "disc rot"

CD-R discs are probably not the most trustworthy method of storing data long term unless kept in high quality archive type conditions. I would recommend that you use either USB thumb drives (which still have a limited shelf live, but longer than a CD-R) or simply use paper (laminated/waterproof) or engrave in steel plates etc.

825  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Block data download speed on: April 30, 2021, 05:18:41 AM
Definitely a CPU bottleneck... the download of the data is only a small part of the syncing process... it's the actual number crunching of the block data to verify it (and all the IO read/writes) that will be making the Pi slow.

From a review of the Pi 400 that I saw... they had put in a large metal plate to act as a kind of heat spreader off the CPU to try and dissipate heat...

And from a write-up testing this cooling solution, it seems that this heat spreader actually does a better job for the Pi400 than a standard Pi4B with a cooling fan! Shocked Shocked Shocked

So, it'll likely be a combination of "low end" CPU + Disk I/O that is slowing things down, tbh.
826  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Help to recover BTC on: April 30, 2021, 05:04:27 AM
PyWallet (at least the "web" version) was indeed able to "edit" wallet.dat files... you could import and delete keys and addresses, in addition to the "dump" functionality.

I'm still confused by the character set used... it almost seems like Base64... except for that * character?!?? Huh Undecided
827  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Old Wallet of 2013 on: April 30, 2021, 04:55:35 AM
Now I have had bitcoins again and I remembered that wallet, searching through my emails I have been able to rescue the wallet address and the site where I created it (bitcoing.org) 😊.
Can you please confirm if you meant bitcoin.org (no "g")... or bitcoing.org (with the extra "g")...

I don't think bitcoin.org was ever an online wallet... How exactly did you come to the conclusion that this elusive wallet was created on this website? Can you provide a screenshot of the emails?

Where you perhaps actually referring to blockchain.info? That was one of the most popular web wallets
828  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Issue with Bitcoin Core - Blocks Replay on: April 30, 2021, 04:52:31 AM
Would it just attempt to start paging out the data if you had attempted a dbcache that was larger than your actual physical RAM size? or does dbcache just revert to your actual RAM size if you set it to a ridiculous value?

In either case, reading through the git issue regarding "replaying blocks", it looks like the OP is just going to have to sit and wait... the most disconcerting thing was that you can't actually interrupt it. Undecided
829  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Updating to Electrum 4.1.2 on: April 30, 2021, 04:42:30 AM
... and I created a new wallet and this time it has the 2fa authentication, my bad I just activated it recently with this new address I have.
You realise that the Electrum 2FA wallets come with "extra" service fees from TrustedCoin, right? Huh These are in addition to the standard Bitcoin network transaction fees.

Refer: https://api.trustedcoin.com/#/faq#fees

Make sure you understand what you're getting into before you ask why there is an extra 0.0005 BTC (or 0.00125 BTC) charge on your first outgoing transaction Wink
830  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: A question concerns how to recover an old private key komodo? on: April 30, 2021, 04:39:45 AM
Bitaddress.org won't help you... that is for dealing with Bitcoin keys... you really need to try to track down an old "Agama" binary (or somehow get the code to compile and make your own).

Without that, you chances of being able to convert your old key to the "new" key format are probably relatively slim
831  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: New Ledger phishing mail targets individual users on: April 30, 2021, 03:39:28 AM
Not necessarily... like I said, my partner who has never been to any crypto related site ever gets "Warnings" that her crypto wallet is at risk. With cryptocurrency getting a lot more mainstream, the spammers are, as always, just playing a numbers game...

Hell, I get warnings that my <insert exchange/service that I have never used> account is blocked and I need to click on this link to fix etc.

Granted, getting the emails from the leaks isn't particular difficult... all the data is out there... and targeting those emails is likely going to get "better" results for a scammer than blindly emailing random email addresses... but those types of emails are not exclusive to the emails in the leaked data.
832  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Old newbie with newbie question(s) on: April 30, 2021, 03:32:56 AM
Using this thread, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5318363.0, I was finally able to figure out how to circumvent the "Armory failed to spawn the DB!" and get Armory properly online, only to learn that my balance is zero. Pfft.
Make sure that the "blocks" shown in the bottom right corner of the Armory window is up to a block value of at least when you were last using Armory, if not much later. Otherwise, as PhoenixFire pointed out, you may not be seeing the "true" balance of your wallet.

For reference, Block# 340000 is from late January 2015
833  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Old newbie with newbie question(s) on: April 29, 2021, 11:34:08 AM
Are you wanting to continue using Armory... or are you just wanting to recover your private keys and migrate to another wallet? Huh

If you want to continue using Armory, then yes, you'll need to wait for Bitcoin Core to finish syncing.

If you just want to recover your private keys, then you can find my guide here on how to export your private keys: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4746784.msg43255691#msg43255691

Note: you will need to use the "Include Unused (Address Pool)" option (and get about 1000 keys) as Armory has no way of identifying the "used" keys until it has been fully synced (which it obviously can't do until Bitcoin Core is fully synced Tongue Roll Eyes )...

Once you have all your private keys, you can easily import them into another wallet like Electrum.

It really comes down to what your plans are moving forward, and whether you are in a "hurry" to access your coins etc.
834  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Help to recover BTC on: April 29, 2021, 11:05:33 AM
I honestly don't see how you could get a wallet.dat from only 76 chars... that seems highly unlikely Undecided

More likely that what you have is a single private key that has been encoded in some manner. The good news is that at least you have the password. The bad news is that you have no idea what encryption method has been used. Undecided

No there is * at the end of the pass but there is no =
Text that starts "AAQ" and ends with a "*" doesn't sound like the "usual" Base64 encoding of ciphertext, as Base64 usually ends with "=" characters... not that it would really make any different, as even if it was Base64, there is still no way to know what the actual encryption algorithm was Undecided
835  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: [Questions] Running my own electrum server on: April 29, 2021, 10:18:46 AM
This is how I've modified DB_DIRECTORY on scripts\electrumx\daemontools\env:
Code:
E:\p2p\BTC\AppData\testnet
That's not likely to work... WSL knows nothing of "Windows" paths... so things like "E:\" etc don't mean anything.

However, WSL should be mounting all the Windows drive letters under /mnt (and in lowercase!)... so you should be able to use something like:
Code:
/mnt/e/p2p/BTC/AppData/testnet
836  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Do you recommend passpharse for Trezor One? on: April 29, 2021, 10:12:45 AM
If that is the case, how many users even put a passphrase on it?  Do they tell you in the instructions you must do this?
They don't go out of their way to highlight this issue... and, from a commercial standpoint, it's fairly understandable why... I mean, it's not exactly a great look to say "hey, our device for securing your coins has a fundamental flaw, but you can mitigate it by using this passphrase feature".

Most of their documentation seems to indicate that the passphrase functionality is "optional"... and not recommended for new users etc:
It is possible to add a passphrase to your Trezor, which allows you to make your Trezor impervious to any physical attack. Even if someone stole your device, disassambled it, and broke the chip to extract your recovery seed, your coins would still be safe.
...
Using this feature effectively and safely requires an understanding of its mechanics - if you are not sure how the passphrase works, we do not recommend using it.

Additionally, you have to go into the advanced options in the wallet interface and explicitly enable the passphrase protection functionality on the device. It is not turned on by default.

Granted, the more likely way to lose coins is probably carelessness with the seed phrase (ie. phishing sites or poor security practices and storing data digitally etc.) but still... they do seem to be deliberately ignoring the problem rather than addressing it in a meaningful way... which is a touch disappointing. Undecided
837  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Which option do I choose to get an address to send btc to myself? (see pics) on: April 29, 2021, 09:17:17 AM
Nothing happens when I tap this

Long pressing it does nothing either. What am I missing?
I honestly don't know... I am running a self compiled "TestNet" version... so maybe there have been some commits to the codebase that change the behaviour since the official 4.1.2 APK was released? Huh

EDIT: nope... I just uninstalled my dev version and then installed the latest 4.1.2 APK from the Play Store and when I tap the address on the "Request" screen, I get shown the other screen with the address QR code and the "Copy" button. Huh

What version are you actually running? Huh I don't think that has been mentioned as yet...
838  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: How often Does Nano Ledger Have a Firmware Update? on: April 29, 2021, 08:38:52 AM
Also hcp you mention there has been ton of updates to the coin apps.  Well... i connected my nano ledger to laptop few times and never checked for this.  But is updating that essential?  Again, when i connect my ledger to laptop and there is no firmware update showing, i don't do anything.  But if i click on accounts/coins... then i would see that my btc, bch apps are way outdated and need to update each one... is that correct?
No, I believe it only shows coin app updates being available if you go into the "Manager", as the Ledger Live dashboard does not have the ability to check the version numbers etc (you have to enter the Manager and then click the "allow Ledger Manager" prompt on the device so it can actually access the apps on your device to check versions etc).

"Update your Apps"

If there are app updates available, you will see a notification bar once you enter the Manager.

So, if you haven't you might want to fire up the "Manager" next time you are using Ledger Live just to be sure you have the most recent coin apps installed.
839  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: New Ledger phishing mail targets individual users on: April 29, 2021, 07:25:45 AM
Also i receive ton of crypto like spam email... but its possibly that is coincidence?  I got to assume maybe even regular people receive ton of that spam mail nowadays?
My partner, who knows pretty much nothing about crypto (other than the fact that some of my crypto bought her some amazon giftcards for her B'day Tongue) gets emails every other day about Doge or Crypto.com or "DeFi" or <insert crypto "scam" here> etc... Roll Eyes
840  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum wallet want let me send the btc I have in it on: April 27, 2021, 11:25:20 PM
That was probably around 30-40 sats/vbyte for a "standard" 1 input/2 output transaction... so that would be about right given the current network conditions...

Glad you managed to get it sorted! Wink
